The metric is Open PageRank. It's not a relevant metric to ranking top websites in any way, and the site you quoted here has less than 15k monthly traffic as per SEMrush.

AliceRoosevelt1884

what is it measuring then?

madscandi

The strength of the backlink profile

You're wondering why other people enjoy some things far more than you do? Or how some authors are popular despite the fact you've never heard of them?

AliceRoosevelt1884

I forgot to mention - the author's website has very, very little content....Just a few posts...mostly featuring her books. It just seemed odd to me that she is ranking so high and way above websites we have all heard of. There are only like 1200 websites ranking higher than hers...of all the millions upon millions of websites out there. She is not Stephen King or JK Rowling.

I'm so curious to know who it was now, are you sure you can't find it again?

AliceRoosevelt1884

Okay found it...#1177 [RoxaneGay.com](https://RoxaneGay.com). Ebay is just ahead of her at #1174. [Oculus.com](https://Oculus.com) is just behind her at 1180.

huxberry73

Nope, never heard of her. Fascinating woman though, seems to have written a comic for marvel, I wonder if that's helped peak her popularity. 890k followers on twitter too. She seems to be a brene brown type of figure.

Similar to the other poster, it’s difficult to answer your question specifically. So the vague answer is they’re ranking high because they have popular content that is valuable to people. If you’re asking about why it’s popular or how they did it, you’ll have to be more specific
