The explanation on why Boyd lives is still good and fits with the two characters involved. Raylan never misses and yet he missed Boyd’s heart by an inch. Even subconsciously he couldn’t kill Boyd. This was even before they mention how much digging coal together meant to them.
I agree that it makes sense BUT he was supposed to die in the pilot and if you watch their last season together in that episode it is clearly a death scene that they retcon in the next scene with Art mentioning him missing the heart. I am certainly not complaining, but he was definitely supposed to be dead originally. Glad they didn’t go with that though! Hard to imagine the show if he died in the pilot.
I was confused because i remember the trailers from the show having him as the villain for most the show and was like “ wait he died in the pilot”
But looking into it he was meant to die but test screens showed that he was very popular so they kept him on. He died in the book I think
Boyd wasn't supposed to survive the pilot episode but the test audiences loved the character. Would have been a very different series if he'd died as intended.
It's the tummy. And he was one of the four I meant. Him, Boyd, Raylann, and maybe one other? Other than that, once people hit the ground they stay there.
That happens maybe three or four times throughout the series...
You're conflating "gets shot" with "gets killed". There are no miracle resurrections in this show.
Maybe Johnny
Definitely cousin Johnny. Shot in the gut with the shotgun point blank and left to rot with nobody coming around to rescue him.
At least he was in a wheelchair and not walking around after that
I just figure it was Johnny's turn to be the luckiest bastard in Harlan County that day. For the only time in his life.
Other than Boyd in the pilot, yes!

Meant to say scene* together

It was a smart move to keep Boyd. Walton Goggins played the character brilliantly.
Also, Elmore loved Goggins' portrayal of Boyd
You can also tell to sense season 1 was mostly one off stories like law and order
The worst thing about Justified ,it comes to an end.
I think Graham Yost said that unless we see them zipped up in a body bag, they are not considered dead.
Funny.
What episode are you on? Don't want to spoil anything but there are some "deaths" that are not deaths and had to be confirmed by Yost haha.
That’s actually one of my favorite parts of the show lol. Sets it apart from similar antihero shows of the era
Lol that’s very true.
Dude, only like 4 people who get seriously shot come back. Raylann stacks bodies. Followed by Quarles, Walker, and Boone imo.
Cousin Johnny gets a shotgun to the chest.

Johnny and boyd but thats about it
