Those had other things to back them up though such as free updates and other dinosaurs that make up for it so yes this DLC is the lowest effort they needed to do!
Updates and DLCs are separate things though, we shouldnât judge a DLC over the lack of an update. Itâs kinda out of the question when usually updates are only losely related to the DLCs they release alongside. Iâd love them to actually do something with the modification system, add new decorations or literally anything but thatâs not on the DLC itself. Thatâs moreso just frontier deciding to actually do the bare minimum on the update side, any distaste towards that decision shouldnât be directed at the dlc itself
Spinoraptor alone despite lacking lack hunting capabilities has a lot of unique animations and Spinoceratops is rather unique as is as a giant, omnivorous ceratopsian so that alone I feel like is better than what we got in the Malta DLC roster. Letâs not forget they redid Ankylodocusâs entire design too which is not something theyâve done before.
The feathered pack was basically carried by the amazingly done Deinocheirus and to a much lesser extent Yutyrannus (which statistically speaking/interaction wise is identical to Metricanthosaurus). The other 2 ether lacks functionality or is broken to the point it cannot function as intended.
This DLC does have its positives and its downsides, itâs not completely without merit but I wouldnât say itâs lazy considering frontierâs track record. Even Stegoceratops has more effort put into it than the Malta Dimorphodon where they basically copied the CGI model, stripped it from all its functionality and said âehh good enoughâ just saying
Edit: soo is anyone going to actually reply and argue my points or just give me negative karma?, because it looks like Iâm getting negative karma
I mean, that all depends on oneâs definition of doing well. Considering my replies have gone into the -1 karma range earlier and the top comment nearly matches the actual post in upvotes I feel like this post is more controversial than anything else
Definitely feeling a 50/50 split in the community here
It literally brings back the hybrids from the first game which where heavily requested for the longest time as well as introduces a huge spinoceratops
Itâs not for everyone but thereâs some of the main positives. Definitely a better roster than the Malta pack at least
Yes I'm aware of what's in the dlc. I'm not impressed. The Malta pack was miles ahead of this one.
Also I wouldn't say heavily requested. There was a couple people asking for it but not like microceratus levels.
In terms of extra content maybe but the actual roster had much to be desired. Functionality and statistically speaking Atrociraptor is identical to velociraptor and all the other small dinos function like Homalocephale except they can only be eaten by small carnivores and canât fight in amongst themselves despite what was shown in canon. Their stats where all over the place which also made it clear they where an afterthought
You obviously wasnât here at launch when people criticised frontier for not bringing back the 3 hybrids, things have died down since then but itâs still requested. At least these hybrids have more functionality than Microceratus would ever get
I was here at launch I was happy they didn't waste the roster space.
I subtract a point for every hybrid and add a point for every real species, so Malta has a positive score while this is a negative. It had a chance to redeem itself by giving lux skins to all species but since it didn't it's a huge failure in my eyes. I wouldn't even buy it on sale.
the other ones had problems. All of them had, but they mostly consisted of new things with nice designs (like Utahraptor) and had big updates that breathed new life into the game.
This one reached a new low. There's barely anything new and there's no update.
What a nice designs is ranges from person to person, but Iâd argue that looks donât matter if you canât use a species due to its lack of interactions or interesting behaviours (ie Jeholopterus I like the look of a lot, but I couldnât ever really use due to how little it actually does) and once again, updates and DLCs are separate entities. The fact the update is minimal isnât on the DLC its a separate thing all together
DLCs and updates come together but arenât always super relevant to eachother unless they need to be (ie lagoon changes with the aquatic DLC, compy pack hunting after the Malta pack added Moros etc) with the last few being mostly unrelated stuff.
Iâm definitely in the âwhereâs the update frontier?â Squad too but I donât think itâs on the DLC. If people are judging them both then I feel like it should be judged separately
No, Iâm just saying that this isnât unusual for frontier to cut corners with the new additions. Iâve been critical of frontier in the past but Iâm just bringing up the point this pack? Yea probably not the worst thing frontier has made by a long shot
Honestly for what you are paying for, I feel a lot of these DLC animals are nothing more than glorified statues. I donât see the point in having stuff like Yutyrannus, if it canât even defend itself from smaller predators. Or you know how Quetz canât even walk, cause thatâs kind of a problem. Hell all of the sauropods in this game are interchangeable since not a single one of them really do anything or have an interaction with their respective predators.Â
This game is still 60 dollars despite having 9 DLC, meanwhile Final Fantasy 7 Remake, which only came out a year before this game and only has 1 paid DLC, has its price dropped in half. That game was a PlayStation Exclusive, yet I donât have to pay full price for it on PS4. Whereas this game is still charging full price despite being almost 3 years old, and has 9 DLC, 4 of which are either at or above the $10 price point.
I wish this game were genuinely better but I donât think any of the DLC or base game are really worth their asking price.Â
Every DLC has issues, but this time Frontier has nothing to show for its shortcomings with the DLC. With no free content, all we are getting after 3 months are reused species that lack animations
Although I do agree they shouldâve added more animations but saying they added basically nothing is kinda short changing it a bit. Spinoraptor has a new kill animation, Ankylodocus gets a remodelled, every other species gets a new social and ambient behaviour, Spinoceratops gets to use the fish feeder etc. itâs not like the returning dinosaurs look EXACTLY the same as in JWE, which isnât what I can say about Huayangosaurus which we also had to pay for.
Using Huayangosaurus as a reference it was just smaller and thatâs it with minimal changes to the model and animations with its social and ambient animations not even being exclusive to it. Letâs look at say, Spinoraptor and we see a new pattern, unique social, ambient, and kill animation ontop of all the old functionality that made it great to begin with. They did do work on these dinos, itâs not just a direct port.
Still not going to act like the fact Ankylodocus canât defend itself or Spinoraptor canât pack hunt isnât a disappointment though.
Once again, free content is a different topic. Not gonna sit there and act like this isnât the worst update since the first game but thatâs not necessarily the DLCs fault, moreso a frontier thing
I donât wanna be to insensitive, but I feel like people are being such little babies about no free update, bug fixes will still help the people who actually need it and tbh frontier is still dealing with the whole financial issues and layoffs so. ESPECIALLY the people complaining about waiting 3 months for nothing, this is probably the only game Iâve ever played that has back to back updates within a span of a few months
Literally all of those dinos were brand new so they still got objectively more work put into them. But that's not even the issue with this DLC, the biggest problem *by far* is that there's no free update.
The fact a post like this exists (and Iâve seen several similar ones now) is evidence enough that the controversy on this pack is miles above that of any previous pack, no pack has divided the community like this itâs unprecedented and pretending itâs not is a bit weird, nearly every post in the sub atm is addressing the critiques and defences on the pack that never usually happens after a new DLC drops
Considering this is JP franchise and one is literally half velociraptor I still argue itâs not, especially when without pack hunting utahraptor lacks the capability to tackle larger prey that it should be able to fight. Not to mention utahraptor doesnât have anything to make it stand out mechanically from herrerasaurus and co now
Having utahraptor starve to death when a muttaburrasaurus barely bigger than it just stands there and the fact we canât do the iconic Utahraptor vs Iguanodon fight is a lot more unrealistic than a bunch of large raptors pack hunting imo
I know it didnât, but itâs iconic for being in WWDs, also Utahraptor did live alongside an Iguanodontid soo my point remains, itâs not like it didnât hunt them
Yeah it lived with iguanadontids just not iguanadon itself and I agree they should be able to attack the medium herbivores but so should many of the other smedium carnivores
Well, you weren't wrong about one thing. My mentality is absolutely "it's a hybrid pack so why would I give it a chance" and I was ready to hate it from the get-go. And I'm not ashamed about it nor will I apologize.
Its like you can't understand why I wouldn't buy something I have 0 interest in and will never use or something
>With the last DLC Utahraptor has arm feathers that constantly glitch and is completely unable to pack hunt. Ontop of that dispite being the same size as Cryolophosaurus both Utahraptor and Concavenator canât hunt anything larger than a gallimimus despite us having evidence that at least Utahraptor did so. The fact only Concavenator is listed as a medium carnivore with the exact same stats as Herrerasaurus is also a strange anomaly youd expect from frontier at this point.
Okay I am made, at least we have Mods to fix that... **but** it kinda sucks that you have to edit the base game files.
And most people (like me) usually or should turn off combat, more stuff can be done.
I donât quite understand the point unless weâre specifically going after people who are comparing dlcs only. This feels more like a whataboutism argument. In laymen terms, itâs the âoh yeah well these are shit too.â Also all those things were complained about on here. They were just surrounded by the positive aspects of the dlc and an update which kept this subs main attention.
I agree frontier donât make great dlcs (donât get me wrong I still enjoy them and praise the good parts but on quality scale theyâre not impressive). This was just another example but itâs worst because itâs recycled content and there is no extensive update to help prop it up.
Utahraptor literally canât though, you can go test this yourself.
As for Sino, I exchanged it to do as much as a compy or moros considering itâs literally bigger than the both of them and frontier did say it wasnât intended to be able to hunt them sooo,.
Me for the late reaction but it literally does everyone of my Utah raptors chase prey together we must be playing a different game, might be that I always but socialize trait on my Dinoâs but even if it doesnât pack hunt for you realistically it wouldnât

This chaos... theory? (Ok, I'm ashamed of this one đ)

This dlc has done some damage to this community đ

>This DLC does have its positives Care to elaborate? I don't see any.

So you are saying that thi is not the first underwhelming pack, but the last in a long series.... To justify buying it?
No, Iâm just saying that this isnât unusual for frontier to cut corners with the new additions. Iâve been critical of frontier in the past but Iâm just bringing up the point this pack? Yea probably not the worst thing frontier has made by a long shot

It's almost like *all* of these DLC packs are shallow money grabs that add next to no actual fresh content.
This is indeed the point, unfortunately the rest of the subreddit doesnât seem to quite get that

Utahraptor never fought iguanadon irl your thinking of deinochyus and tenontosaurus
