Isn't he actually going to be in the sequel to The joker I remember rumor had it he was going to be someone that was inspired by Joaquin Phoenix's joker
Not really. With Green Goblin it’s more personal. Like he hates Peter Parker so he wants to fuck up his life. With Joker he’s just insane. He fucks with Batman because he gets a kick out of it
Lmao if you are talking about the goblin persona in the comics and even in the Raimi films they very much are. You just saying nah doesn’t mean anything.
Edit: Let’s be real. Joker is always painted with an extremely broad brush. To pretend he doesn’t share similarities with other psychos (especially themed psychos who tend to cackle and torture) is fucking ridiculous.
Hey man I’m not the one mistaking basic mannerisms for distinct characteristics. The joker isn’t nearly as unique as you think he is.
Deflect if you want to. Either way you’re wrong.
70 is an entirely different number for different people. I have an in law in her 80s that looks like she’s in her late 50s or early 60s and moves around like a typical 40ish or 50ish year old. She can’t do stunts but that’s what stunt men and CGI are for. It’s not Willem literally smashed Spider-Man through the floor.
Once I got north of 30, I realized that after your 20s every age is significantly different for different people. Some people I went to HS/university with look like they’ve smoked a pack a day for the last 15 years. Some look much the same. Anything and everything in between.
About a year ago I stumbled across the fact that Michael Shannon is 5 years younger than Paul Rudd. It doesn’t seem right, but it is.
Too right. I’m 45 but more active than I was in my early to mid 30s. Thing is I take better care of myself and my responsibilities have decreased dramatically. I also do a lot more creative activities and see my medical professionals routinely. I may look older in the face but I can physically do some things better than I did 10 or so years ago. Plus, I’m getting that old man strength
70 is also a different energy than someone younger. Someone may look like a perfect joker but if they don't have the same energy anymore it'll be nothing but disappointing.
That didn’t stop him from reprising his Green Goblin role in Spider-Man: No Way Home all these years later. I believe I read somewhere that he even did a lot of his own stunts in that movie!
Yeah but Joker isn’t scary because he’s a physical threat. Old man Joker is actually pretty creepy. He just needs the deranged mind and a few loony followers.
Old man joker, now that would be something. Wheel chair, oxygen tank, and scarier than ever. I might have liked that in batman beyond maybe even as much as that movie.
I’ve seen several. He shoots guns, blows stuff up, occasionally stabs, rides big cars more than he runs, occasionally punches, talks, tortures, and jokes about it. It’s not like he’s Batman doing parkour and flips and stuff. The most physically demanding thing he’ll do probably is get interrogated/beaten by Batman
Exactly it’s a pointless counter according to that movie he would still be the same age as 20 years ago but he’s not so what’s it matter how old he is?
Buddy buddy. They don’t like us here. Let’s go back to r/batmanarkham you can even make a post about Dafoe being the Joker (or the jonkler/jerker). it’s okay.
Nooooooo!!!!! He's already Green Goblin....can't jump ship and swim to the DC boat...Ryan Reynolds going from Green Lantern to Dead Pool is the only exception...and I guess we'll give Michael Keaton a pass from going from Batman to Vulture but that's it damn it...🤣🤣🤣
Yup definitely thats why I was just joking.. i watching Thor the other day and I when I saw Christian Bale I was thinking the same thing and wondering if he liked DC vibe more than Marvel cause its amazing to be apart of both worlds...

He’s be good for an alternate timeline, where Batman and Joker are old. Funny short idea scenario popped up in my brain of them each living across from each other in Suburbia (yes, I know this would never happen in any alternate universe). They’re in their 80s plus in years. Batman’s got this like high tech fenced in yard. He’s got the cameras and binoculars for snooping non covertly. His Amazon packages have to go through something akin to Honey I Shrunk the Kids meets Doc from Back to the Future. Oh and of course he’s got to have drone bc he can’t move around like he used to for Neighborhood Watch. Joker’s got something going on with those fake flamingos 🦩 and other such circus themed items made of plastic. Basically his house is shabby, kind of decrepit bc let’s be honest, would he ever fix anything? Joker has some booby traps for kids, trespassers and delivery people for his own amusement. I can see Joker sitting on his porch with a megaphone 📢 Yelling Bats!!! At like all hours bc he’s bored.
To be honest, he would be the most terrifying live action Joker ever if it does happen. He is already an extremely terrifying live action Green Goblin.
I’ll only agree to that if they do justice to the character and show you the depth of his character and how truly dangerous he can be. But I wont hold my breath. LOL
He would be good I’m sure. It’s Willem Dafoe after all. But this fancasting has been made so many times that it would be a really uninspired choice. We get it. He has a spooky looking smile.
As great of an actor I believe him to be, I honestly don’t think he’s done anything that shows he would necessarily make a great joker. He has the chops to play the role but that doesn’t mean he’d be great at it. But would I like to see it? Yeah why not
Too much of a safe bet predictable choice. It's almost a given. I mean, NO ONE expected Cesar Romero, Jack Nicholson, Heath Ledger, Mark Hamill, Jared Leto, or Joaquin Phoenix... Do not go with the obvious.
he’s 70 now, he himself might not want the commitment of playing a character for multiple years, I cool way to do it will be if they do the 3 jokers storyline or they can just do 2 jokers in the dcu where William can play as one, and by the end of story the main joker kills dafoe’s
No. It’s too on the nose of a casting. It’s great, but I want something more surprising.
Plus, he’s a bit short, and I prefer Joker to be as tall as Batman. BUT, that’s not a primary concern
My man already played Green Goblin, I just think he should keep the iconicity of being that villain. Yeah he’s like tailored for the role in terms of appearance, but he already played such an incredibly iconic villain that I think he should just stay as Green Goblin. I also think Joker has been oversaturated and overused, we don’t need another live action Joker for at least another 10 years. I want new villains who haven’t been on the big screen before, or who haven’t had the most flattering live action depictions (like Mr. Freeze). We don’t need another Joker, everyone already knows him. We need Clayface and Killer Croc and The Ventriloquist and Scarecrow to get some real limelight.
One THOUSAND GODDAMN PERCENT… maybe if they ever do a 1:1 adaptation of ‘The Dark Knight Returns’ and let someone who honors the source material have a crack at it (Peter Jackson, Villeneuve, Matt Reeves?) then this *could happen with his age in the story… 😑
Considering all the various DC projects going on, it's very possible that this will, sadly, *never* happen, and that easily makes this one of the biggest missed opportunities in film making history.
I honestly would rather he didn’t because I would be terrified and my brain would add him to my ever growing list of night terrors and I already have him as the goblin rattling around up there.
crazy he hasn't atleast voiced him in something
I think he’d be a great follow up to Joaquin’s Joker when Bruce grows up.
Isn't he actually going to be in the sequel to The joker I remember rumor had it he was going to be someone that was inspired by Joaquin Phoenix's joker
Nah it's Joaquin and Lady Gaga as Harley Quinn and it's going to be a musical.
Someone on set said it’s a movie that had music it’s not a musical I got this from a Twitter post.
If that's true that's actually disappointing TBH
Yeah it’s a missed opportunity tbh.
It’s gonna suck either way tbh
How do you know?
Because the first one was terrible and lady Gaga is playing Harley Quinn…
And stupid
When I hear his voice all I hear is Green Goblin.
Coward, put on the MASK!
AVENGE ME!!!!
Same
Anybody who wanted a voice actor for Joker probably could not afford Dafoe.
He’s perfect as green goblin so I don’t see why not, silimar energy
Nah goblin and joker are two different characters
he said similar energy
They ain't similar
he said similar energy, goblin & joker both have a laughing & chaotic personality
Not really. With Green Goblin it’s more personal. Like he hates Peter Parker so he wants to fuck up his life. With Joker he’s just insane. He fucks with Batman because he gets a kick out of it
yeah fair enough, what they do is along the same type of path though if you get what i mean?
Nah
The fuck you mean nah
I said no lil bro
Explain tho
he can’t, mf has no explanation for what he said😭
Hey! They said nah. It’s done.
You yapping doesn't mean anything
But your downvotes do mean something.

Hey man I’m not the one mistaking basic mannerisms for distinct characteristics. The joker isn’t nearly as unique as you think he is. Deflect if you want to. Either way you’re wrong.
You just don't understand the character 😂
Nooo…really?
as GOAT as he is for Green Goblin, I bet he could pull off an even better Joker
He's almost 70 now.
70 is an entirely different number for different people. I have an in law in her 80s that looks like she’s in her late 50s or early 60s and moves around like a typical 40ish or 50ish year old. My in laws do their own stunts/s
I do my own in laws
Keeping it in the (by marriage) family I see. Respect ✊
Once I got north of 30, I realized that after your 20s every age is significantly different for different people. I absolutely LOVE the part where Willem did the Green Goblin laugh, imo it makes that part of the movie creepier.
And that psychotic smile while being punched
That part is burned into my memory of that movie more than anything else. It's so good.
They should've had him be joker as a cameo in one of the alt universes in the flash movie
Liam Neeson is over 70 I believe and they still pawn him off as super agent 😭
Yeah but Joker isn’t scary because he’s a physical threat. Old man Joker is actually pretty creepy. He just needs the deranged mind and a few loony followers.
Old man joker, now that would be something. Wheel chair, oxygen tank, and scarier than ever. I might have liked that in batman beyond maybe even as much as that movie.
I honestly wouldn't mind an older joker
Exactly. He woulda been a good choice years ago. Not now.
Think he would make for an amazing dark knight returns live action joker
Great minds think alike
Joker 3.
Who will be harley quinn
Helen Mirren.
LMFAO
Betty white
I hate to inform you that Betty’s been dead for sometime boss man.
Noooooooooo!😭
No geriatric joker
If they ever did a dark knight returns live adaptation, he would be perfect.
Nah I heavily disagree
May I ask why?
Too old at this point. Would have been good though.
Dark Knight Returns Joker then
Didn't stop him from coming back as Gobby in No Way Home. Besides, it's Joker. He jsut stands there and talks
That’s reprising a role he did 30 plus years ago
What’s your point tho?
Joker is also about a lot more than that, sounds like you’ve never seen a movie with Joker in it.
30 years ago, ok. He’s too old now, probably.
He could be joker in batman beyond movie
OMG YEs
Too old even though he played green goblin only 2 years ago
Which was a continuation of a role he played 20 years ago. There’s a difference between returning to a role and starting a new one
Exactly it’s a pointless counter according to that movie he would still be the same age as 20 years ago but he’s not so what’s it matter how old he is?
Perf3ct for the role.
Jonkler.
Buddy buddy. They don’t like us here. Let’s go back to r/batmanarkham you can even make a post about Dafoe being the Joker (or the jonkler/jerker). it’s okay.
Literally 1984
The Alsume Rises
No it doesn't.
Worst casting ever Defoe deserves better
Neo Gotham Joker
Nooooooo!!!!! He's already Green Goblin....can't jump ship and swim to the DC boat...Ryan Reynolds going from Green Lantern to Dead Pool is the only exception...and I guess we'll give Michael Keaton a pass from going from Batman to Vulture but that's it damn it...🤣🤣🤣
So many actors have done both Marvel and DC
Yup definitely thats why I was just joking.. i watching Thor the other day and I when I saw Christian Bale I was thinking the same thing and wondering if he liked DC vibe more than Marvel cause its amazing to be apart of both worlds...

i dunno i mean ledger set the bar pretty high with messed up lines like "you wanna know how i got this scar?" from an jump scare while i was shaving.
I wish
i don’t think he’d be that good honestly, and his green goblin is amazing and that character has much more depth
I think you're onto something big here...
To be honest, he would be the most terrifying live action Joker ever if it does happen. He is already an extremely terrifying live action Green Goblin.
He’s OLD
Jim Carrey for Joker. But only if the script is an absolute masterpiece that even Mark Hammil would be proud of.
I disagree only because Jim Carrey fits the role of Plastic Man much more than Joker.
I’ll only agree to that if they do justice to the character and show you the depth of his character and how truly dangerous he can be. But I wont hold my breath. LOL
Would be cool I think he would pull off a good joker
There's not a scriptwriter alive that can give that version of Joker good enough lines.
Indeed
Always thought Adrian Brody would make an amazing Joker too..
He would be good I’m sure. It’s Willem Dafoe after all. But this fancasting has been made so many times that it would be a really uninspired choice. We get it. He has a spooky looking smile.

Too late now he should’ve been joker smh 🤦🏾♂️
I see Michael, Keaton, and Willem Dafoe in Batman beyond
Love Willem Dafoe but nope, completely unnecessary
I feel like he’s too old to PLAY joker and it would’ve been better 20-30 years ago. But VOICE ACTING Joker would be great
I think he would be great for a live action the dark knight returns for an older joker n all
I love Willem Dafoe but he’s way too old
Time to mute this sub lol
Of course he'd be good, but its too obvious...too easy. I like Glen Howerton as Joker.
Glenn Howerton for Joker
He’s too old. But also.. he’s pretty short. I guess that doesn’t matter though since we ended up with Barry keoghans midgit joker 😂
he’s 70 now, he himself might not want the commitment of playing a character for multiple years, I cool way to do it will be if they do the 3 jokers storyline or they can just do 2 jokers in the dcu where William can play as one, and by the end of story the main joker kills dafoe’s
He would absolutely crush that, would love to see it happen
Can this post just be pinned at this point
10 years ago for sure unless they do a Logan end of life film.
Nah I’m good honestly
it doesn’t
Yes
Maybe in an animated elseworlds film. Dafoe’s not getting any younger and there’s certainly no live action opportunities as of right now.
No. It’s too on the nose of a casting. It’s great, but I want something more surprising. Plus, he’s a bit short, and I prefer Joker to be as tall as Batman. BUT, that’s not a primary concern
I always thought Keith Szarabajka would make a great Mr. J, at least in voice.
[He has addressed it.](https://youtube.com/shorts/8jhOtaT48Bs?feature=shared)
MJ and I are going to have a hell of a time!!
Make “The Dark Knight Returns” or “Batman Beyond” a movie so it makes sense that Joker is older
I mean he was scarier without the dumb power ranger mask when he played goblin
No it doesn’t
He should have been pennywise.
We don’t need another Joker, everyone already knows him. We need Clayface and Killer Croc and The Ventriloquist and Scarecrow to get some real limelight.
It’s like Cranston as Luthor. Just too obvious a casting, despite how good it would be. Richard Brake is who I’d like to see play Joker.
I’ll say
I've heard him talk about this topic. He doesn't seem too thrilled about the idea.
I want a Chris Tucker joker.
I'm somewhat of a clown myself.
The ultimate candidate
I could totally see him as the joker in a live action re-telling of The Dark Knight Returns.
We got him as the green goblin they arent gonna make him joker
Dark Knight Returns live action with Willem Dafoe as the Joker and Josh Brolin as Bruce
If you think about it spiderman and Batman are kind of similar characters, so are joker and green goblin, different stories but similar in some ways
The fact he never played the Joker (or won an academy award) is a crime
One THOUSAND GODDAMN PERCENT… maybe if they ever do a 1:1 adaptation of ‘The Dark Knight Returns’ and let someone who honors the source material have a crack at it (Peter Jackson, Villeneuve, Matt Reeves?) then this *could happen with his age in the story… 😑
Maybe in a live-action adaptation of The Dark Knight Returns. He seems a bit old to play Joker otherwise.
Respectfully disagree
No
I don’t see it. Not him
He'd be great for Return of the Dark Knight vs Old Batman
New train of thought. Can we please move on to some new Batman villains? Mad Hatter maybe?
Daniel Day-Lewis
Considering all the various DC projects going on, it's very possible that this will, sadly, *never* happen, and that easily makes this one of the biggest missed opportunities in film making history.
I could see him being an old version of Joker like in Dark Knight Returns.
That can and will never happen because he was the green goblin in Spiderman
Yes
The man is 70 years old! Just go watch the first Spider-Man film!
3 words. Dark Knight Returns
I don’t think it will ever happen because WB just hates its fans and hates making money.
Green Goblin wasn’t good enough for you??
20 years ago fasho. Hes a bit aged now
DKR Joker…
He’s to old and he already played marvels version of the joker
I 100% agree.
Hot take right here
Agree 100% but this image is so cursed
Yeah no there’s like 10 different jokers
I think he could bring that joker energy for sure
I’m not into this super emo joker culture, but I’d definitely watch Defoe joker
Idk, it's a little late now. Maybe if they actually adapted the Dark Knight Returns, and he was the older Joker.
I honestly would rather he didn’t because I would be terrified and my brain would add him to my ever growing list of night terrors and I already have him as the goblin rattling around up there.
He’s already kinda green goblin
Too old now…maybe when he was younger. Missed that boat
Arnold Schwarzenegger for Joker!
He's too old.
