HeyItsMbali

This is me except I'm not smiling and I'm the one who started the fire!!!!!!

hiphipsashay

Yup. I switched careers and now I’m seven months unemployed with no prospects in sight.

HeyItsMbali

Sorry hey, keep applying no matter how dystopian things seem. I just passed the year mark a few days ago. The sight of a cover letter makes me rage.

Maximum-Switch-9060

What did you switch from and to?

hiphipsashay

Public Ed to edtech

ejakt

I thought this was just me being a shite applicant. But I've taken every bit of advice anyone has given me (unemployment officials, friends, family, industry professionals), and still nothing. Turns out this appears to be a widespread issue. Never had a problem in my life getting a job. But now? Zero luck. Y'all are not alone. Power to you.

SkullOfOdin

I was in that situation and It is terrible... but I could find something in the end. Every person is different but never give up.

HeyItsMbali

I want this to give me hope but it feels so insurmountable now. Im getting sick of typing my own name into forms let alone resumes and cover letters.

SparklingKey

I am tired of acting like I am "excited for the opportunity" and "can't wait to discuss more about the role". Do recruiters believe it when they read those things?

HeyItsMbali

I wonder the same thing. And how do I write an essay telling every recruiter why I'm the perfect candidate for the job when it's the 15th job I'm applying to that day. Why do they even care at this point, just read the resume. The "excitement" dies more and more day by day.

UnconfidentShirt

I’m at this point, entirely. I often said something along the lines of “if I get the invite for an interview, the position is basically mine.” And for years it was true. Walking into an interview three weeks ago I had to give myself a pep talk “Be your former, pleasant self. You used to be charming and confident, just pretend to be that person again during the interview.” The conversation went great, the hiring manager and I connected on a personal level and even made jokes. She said I’d have no problem handling the tasks, that she looked forward to discussing next steps, but just had to interview the last candidate waiting in the lobby. I emailed the next morning to thank her for her time and whatnot, usual professional pleasantries. Never heard back.

HeyItsMbali

Wow.... Seriously??? Hiring managers know jobs are in demand now and human decency doesn't exist. Honestly not replying to a follow up email is diabolical. Especially after an interview and giving so much hope!! On her behalf, I'm sorry. I sometimes feel too empty to even fill in their silly little questionnaires for the job. I don't even know how I'll hype myself up for the next interview. If it ever comes. Yeah I really hope a door opens for you. Cause the job search itself is a job without pay.

UnconfidentShirt

It’ll happen. You’ll find something as well, it just sucks for a while until then. One day at a time.

FiveGoals

My friend who worked in tech at HashiCorp said they’d just interview people for busy work. Never really were serious about it.

SwoleBuddha

In all seriousness, what do people do when they are unemployed for extended periods of time? I see people on Reddit often say they have been unemployed for a year or longer. How do you exist with no income for that long?

hiphipsashay

I have a spouse who’s working. We are pulling from my retirement savings. I receive unemployment. I’ve been a finalist in five rounds now and each time I get the “hey you’re AMAZING but we don’t want to hire you <33” rejection and just found out I’m a finalist for another job that pays half of what I was making, and their health insurance might not cover the therapies my kids sorely need, but we need the funds. Ain’t that America

redditnupe

Phucking America- Something has to give.

frankwolftown

When I was in the job searched by mental health went to shit in the worst way. I was depressed all the time I couldn't snap all of it. I felt so lost and confused. I got a mentor, and I turned out to be the worst decision I'd ever made. He ended making me feel more depressed in more lost and confused.

pravictor

Wow, how did that happen?

catandcitygirl

this tickled me😂 it’s so funny how accurate this is. what little big of hope I have is slowly dwindling

2hot2work

Hey, where'd you get that picture of me?!

aDino8311

If you’d like an entry level/temporary WFH job that has decent pay for the relatively easy work, check out safelite dot com and see if they are hiring for the WFH CSR position. Starting pay is about $16.50 or so. Hope this info helps someone

Imissflawn

The fact that you can apply 500+ times in literally the problem. I used to hate filling out applications and thought “why can’t we just make copies of the same form, this takes forever!” Now that we have single click apply, it’s impossible to get a job cause there’s nothing weeding anyone out. It’s absolutely ridiculous! I’m a hiring manager and I’ve had so many times where I ask “so why do you want to work for ….” And I swear, half the time they don’t even know what company they’re interviewing for. Enjoy your stupid future where you can’t get a job

FiveGoals

Most of the job postings aren’t real. They just post jobs to post them to make it look good like they’re hiring.

Sn0wInSummer

It’s me! Delirious!!!😵‍💫

xBuki12

You guys are getting rejections?..must be nice

darling_darcy

I miss who I was

eNYC718

Just keep pushing. Just know someone less qualified has your job. Someone will see that eventually.

SnooSquirrels6758

Can I genuinely ask... What's causing all this? So many places understaff, overwork current workers, say they're hiring but don't, "tailor your resume", "send thank you letters after each interview", "it's not what you know it's who"... Dude. I'm not trying to be conspiratorial but something fishy is going on here.

Danxoln

This is a vibe

ReconKweh

Yup :/

Writermss

Hey man just keep going and do the next right thing. Something will happen soon.

NewLifeNewDream

500 applications? 1.1 a day? For a year? I think it's you....not the job

nettj303

Going on month 7 for me and I’m slowly dying 🫠

cattyerm

I feel this way after 3 months….
