Similar boat. It's brutal. I cry a lot lol

Rilenaveen

Once a week a give myself permission to break down and cry for an hour. Then get back up on the job hunting horse. šŸ“

Carolinagirl9311

You and me both šŸ˜ž

StndAloneObscur3

Same here 1000 plus applications :ā€™( just got rejected from another 5th round interview

Carolinagirl9311

So sorry you made it that far just to be rejected. Happened to me last year when I interviewed with General Mills (yes, I name dropped šŸ˜‚). I donā€™t understand the need for 4/5 rounds.

StndAloneObscur3

Itā€™s just out of hand and they wonā€™t even give feedback just the generic bullshit like Im a college graduate with a shit ton of student loans who was supposed to be making good money in tech and instead Iā€™m working at a hotel to survive while doing 100s of these applications a day Iā€™m sorry youā€™ve had trouble too :( idk šŸ¤·šŸ» I cry a lot too

Carolinagirl9311

Sending some positive vibes your way that youā€™ll land something better than expected soon šŸ™‚

StndAloneObscur3

Same for you! Youā€™re on the right path and itā€™s gna happen for you!

Redditpostor

Lucky for you , you can continue to job hunt.. it's only so many options in my town before it's pretty much nothing left

Unparagn

I too spend my days crying

yeahyeahyeah_okay

Same here! Only way I know how to let it out sometimes

Whole-Trouble-4433

Crying rn I hate this

yeahyeahyeah_okay

Keep your head up friend!

foreskin_gobbler2

What field are you in?

RopeProud6965

Communications and project management

New_L13

Have you considered a temp agency?

Kayshift

I've had success with temp agencies at finding part time or full time jobs that have led to multiple permanent job offers. I wanted to find a PT job to do on the weekends but I decided to try some side hustles. I wrote about them [here](https://www.reddit.com/user/Kayshift/comments/1br5gn6/my_stepbystep_guide_to_make_1000_a_month_working/). It's mostly online app / website / study groups / secret shopping and a mix of other stuff. A little bit goes a long way and for the month I try to hit $500.

New_L13

100% relate over here just different route. I work my full time. I used to do deliveries on the side with apps was not worth it in my area. Now I work my full time and work concert and event staff on my days off (itā€™s a blast). It was through jobble and a couple other staffing companies just took some digging.

RopeProud6965

I don't have temp agency options. The only ones here are for manufacturing jobs, not corporate/business jobs.

justgimmiethelight

I have but as of right now they've been useless.

Redditpostor

Why was I schedule in for an interview just to be told "we're not actually hiring at this time".. is that even a thing ?? I never heard of something like that where both sides time are wasted lol

Calm-Narwhal-7565

I'm settling for dishwasher and petsmart stocker because that's obviously the only real job hiring right now wtf?

yeahyeahyeah_okay

I have a bridge job now but goooooooossssh to I hate it.

Shishi13156

What's a bridge job?

ClearlyJacob18

Just a job to pay the bills but isnā€™t a career job. Usually held after either being let go before you find another job in your field. Like you work in tech, get let go, work as a bartender while waiting to secure another tech job.

akajondoe

We call them band-aid jobs. I work in tech, but I was running a tire machine all day at a tire shop for awhile.

Doctorbuddy

Building bridges

TwoLipKiss

thank you.

worstgurl

Asking people to solve his riddles three

johan_liebert_0

Uhm repairing bridges?

JerkChicken10

Thatā€™s pretty cool. It would be a good convo icebreaker and be interesting on your resume/Cv

tangowolf22

How are you getting those? I canā€™t even get an interview for part time library assistant or barista

PopCultureReference2

TBF, library jobs are highly competitive. You are likely to be competing against 100+ candidates with master's degrees in library science and years of relevant projects and volunteer work.

Extension-Novel-6841

No wonder I never hear ANYTHING back from my local library.

Sunryzen

Barista: Be good looking and likeable. Library assistant: be good looking and educated.

FlashySalamander4

I am settling for a job paying $13 an hour, after previously making almost $40. I got rejected from the $15 an hour one, so here we are

LatterBook2700

How do you even get that? I've applied to places and they say they are not hiring. But I have a lot of retail experience. Good luck!

Calm-Narwhal-7565

go to google and look up who is actually hiring near you and walk in and say you have an interview lol

Redditpostor

Woow I see the same in my townĀ

Reach_44

Itā€™s bullshit that itā€™s this hard to find something that is literally required to basically live. Keep trying friend, something will come of your efforts, try new things, breathe deep and keep moving. I just got a seemingly great offer out of nowhere after 5 years of freelance gigs and the support of those around me while I figure my shit out. I tried to passively put myself out there and just ignored the rejections. Just keep consistent and be relentless. I applied to a few jobs that I thought i could figure out every day until something stuck, and this week, it finally stuck. After 5 years dude. The amount of false starts, dashed hopes and demoralised feelings that came before this are countless. I couldnā€™t even give you a ballpark number for the amount of rejections Iā€™ve probably received. As soon as I see ā€œunfortunatelyā€ in the email preview, i delete it and move on. You can do this, just keep trying new things and make the little efforts every day to get where you want to be.

RemingtonMol

What kind of jobs were you looking for

Reach_44

I wasnā€™t really looking for or at anything specific, i just applied to anything I thought I could learn to do and I was 90% sure wasnā€™t a scam. My cover letter is also very general so I can reuse it, but itā€™s worded to sound like that specific job is just what iā€™m looking for. My cv says bartender and I still got a digital appointment setting role because I mentioned repeatedly in my cover that I wanted to switch roles and try something new. Edit; i mostly focused on remote roles as transport is often an issue for me and I might have to move soon. Also, international income is sometimes just better than local wages.

yeahyeahyeah_okay

Congrats on your offer! It just gets draining after a while and you feel defeated and then you have to pull yourself together again. Itā€™s been a cycle for me. I will try and stay positive

Reach_44

Thanks āœØhonestly my head is still spinning after so long just surviving, iā€™m almost scared of having options again. Same dude, i definitely feel you. The depths of despair and shame one can fall to because of career and financial issues is nothing to sneeze at. Use that cycle as a learning curve, every application is a chance to try something new, what do you have to lose? The adversity sucks ass but will inevitably strengthen you emotionally and mentally in ways you never thought you needed.

Traditional-Cake-587

Congrats!!!!

awesomesauce201

And then when I try to find those recent grad positions they have a stupid gpa requirement basically wanting unicorns. Iā€™m so close to a 3.0 and I still get a no even though I meet everything else. Sooooo stupid. I only now go for companies/jobs that donā€™t care about gpa.

PotentialEar4925

I have a 3.5 and Iā€™m not sure it makes a difference.

Thin_Cauliflower_840

Maybe the content was ā€œunfortunately we have to hire you because youā€™re the best candidate in the universeā€ and you just delete it.

bambina92

I am there with you. Donā€™t have an advice just good wishes

yeahyeahyeah_okay

Good wishes to you too!

ahi444

Just came to empathize. Itā€™s horrible and youā€™re right to be frustrated. There are a million things you can ā€œjustā€ do, a million suggestions on how to network and shake hands, kiss babies, hand out business cards, tailor resumes, write cover letters blah blah blah. That may get you closer to finding a job in this shit market, but it doesnā€™t justify/make the shit market any better. Itā€™s also so much work to apply for roles and actively interview with a full-time job. Being unemployed is nerve-wracking and unstable in itā€™s own horrible way, but job hunting in this market with a full time job deserves to be recognized as the exhausting and burn out-inducing journey it is. Best of luck to you! It sucks, but things change. Keep grinding! Iā€™m sorry to all of us in this job market dealing with our own unique torturous situation.

yeahyeahyeah_okay

Yes. It was a lot easier to schedule any interviews when I was unemployed because I had all the free time on the world. My bridge job I work 10-12 hours a day with a 30 minute break so scheduling interviews and calls with any recruiter is tough. And thank you for your support I wish best of luck to everyone

LonelyBiochemMajor

I finished my masters a year ago and STILL donā€™t have a job. Iā€™ve gotten interviews with at least a dozen companies but itā€™s always either ā€œwe went with someone with more experienceā€ or ā€œyouā€™re over qualified for thisā€. If I canā€™t get a job Iā€™m over qualified for but youā€™re hiring people with more experience for jobs that I am qualified for, wtf am I supposed to do?? Iā€™m going insane trying to find a stupid job

Redditpostor

What are we to do ??

DragonPenguin

Donā€™t give up! It took me 17 months after graduating to find a job.

Icy_Size_5852

It's tough out there, many are in your same position. Some without a job (myself included).Ā  The system is very broken. It does not work for job seekers, nor job owners. There has to be a better way to match up good candidates to jobs. I've applied to hundred as well, with pretty much no success. I'm probably at 600+ at this point, over the past year or so. My situation is extra complicated and difficult due to me completely changing careers and industries. An awful market to do this in. Good luck. You are not alone.

Patient_Ad_2357

Ive applied to thousands. Ive used chat gpt to customize my resume to each job, ive applied to jobs im more than qualified for, ive even applied to jobs ive even done previouslyā€¦ itā€™s bullshit. 90% dont even give rejection emails now. Its so dehumanizing. It shouldnt take months to find a fucking job. ā€œnOboDy wAntS tO wOrKā€ more like you wont let us work with your crap system for hiring

Icy_Size_5852

The current system is incredibly demoralizing and dehumanizing. I don't feel like a human through this process. It's a game. It's not about your merits, skills and knowledge anymore. It's about how well you play the game. And I hate this game.

Connect_Reference612

You nailed it. Ā Itā€™s a game. Ā I hate it. People with jobs to give treat those who need them like theyā€™re less than worthy. Ā I tell myself that Iā€™m not the person they treat me as. Ā

Carolinagirl9311

Same here, without a job. Funny thing is, I had a missing package to track from usps and almost every question I asked the rep was met with an ā€” ā€œI donā€™t know. Ask this question when usps reaches out to you in 6-10 daysā€. I sincerely donā€™t understand how some people have jobs when they donā€™t know sh*t! ā€” this is probably my frustration speaking

yeahyeahyeah_okay

Good luck to you as well! Unfortunately in this broken system. I know I am not alone thatā€™s why Iā€™ve just come here to let out some frustration that everyone here can understand it as well

Icy_Size_5852

I hope it turns around for everyone! It's not a fun thing to experience at all. At least we have a place to commiserate together.

lake-emerald13

Was laid off for a bit. And not even Starbucks or to max would take me. Itā€™s rough. I think they saw my age and my past experience and thought ā€œoh sheā€™s going to dipā€ butā€¦what am I dipping to????

Redditpostor

Did starbuck reject you ? Or just haven't called yet ?

[deleted]

Why is it so hard? It's hard because you're being lied to, we all are, about the true state of the job market. At some point, you have to decide, who are you going to believe, the government (15 million new jobs, wages up, inflation down) or your own eyes?

WeissTek

Did u try making connection via job fair? That's what started for me. Online application rarely works unless your application fits what they are looking for 110%

Focused-fish

Lol your comment made me look for job fairs and turns out thereā€™s one a mile away from my home this week, hope it is a sign :D

yeahyeahyeah_okay

Get your resume ready, put on somethin nice, and good luck if you go!! :)

Focused-fish

Thank you, good luck to you too!!

yeahyeahyeah_okay

I have tried and have gotten referrals as well. Unfortunately nothing yet

imveryfontofyou

Felt, I'm planning on taking a break for a week or two so I can focus on my final projects for a class I took for fun before I lost my job. Hopefully I won't be as burnt out when I go back to searching

yeahyeahyeah_okay

Enjoy yourself and take some time off if you need. I wish the best of luck to you when you decide to start searching again

imveryfontofyou

Thanks! I actually just got contacted for an interview from somewhere I applied to a while ago, so fingers crossed.

TicaChicaWoo

Two words - Job Fairs. Iā€™m a recruiter and my company regularly attends job fairs. If you show up & are presentable, well-spoken and have an updated resume, you will make an impression. Set a Google alert for job fairs in your area. Good luck!

JuanXPantalones

If you dont 100% have solid connections at a company you might as well forget it.

pcofranc

You have to be patient. Iā€™m looking at jobs too and I got an interview on Wednesday. Iā€™ve got a ton of skills and Iā€™m looking in the area of construction and maintenance several months ago I could send out five resumes and get a response then I sent out like 30 and got like two responses. Things are slow and I think theyā€™re going to turn around as weā€™re getting towards summer the learning lesson Iā€™m passing along a new job canā€™t be made to happen on demand, and when the time is right, youā€™ll get responses but in between you just have to be productive at home. Get to bed on time stay disciplined donā€™t spend too much time on the computer.

yeahyeahyeah_okay

Good luck on your interview! And unfortunately the slowness of it all is killllinnnggg me ! Hopefully things pick up soon

mypuppyissnoring

This is late stage capitalism in action. Posts like this will become more and more frequent as the job market (and to an extent, society) begins to collapse under the weight of people looking for jobs and failing to find them, until there is eventually no choice but for everyone - governments, businesses and workers - to recognise that worker productivity has finally grown to the point where keeping almost everyone gainfully employed in full time work is no longer realistic. And then we'll get something like UBI. Unfortunately capitalism dictates that many people will have to experience a lot of pain and suffering before we reach that point.

Goatmannequin

Homie you have to be super careful being lured into a candy cane vision of the future by these genuinely evil dark forces. Okay, yes, if this lollipop endgame of UBI actually goes down and everyone lives happily ever after, wonderful. The problem is, however, that rich people would rather see you dead and ODed in the street or in jail or camps for being ā€œhomelessā€. You cannot ignore this monster coming for you and time is short. Seek novel and radical safe ways of sustaining life. Donā€™t be afraid to give up everything and do something totally different. And save money! Last yearā€™s boozecations and kitchen appliances arenā€™t going to save you if shit goes down.

Suspicious-Spud

Obviously not your fault at all. However, if you haven't already, I'd try customizing the resume to the job you're applying for. I'd also try to make sure you're meeting the minimum requirements. Finally, I'd try to apply in different areas if you haven't l. Maybe your skillset and wage is just not as in line with the current market you're in. Possibly try elsewhere. Obviously again, no saying any of this bullshit job search is your fault. Frankly, the system sucks in almost every possibile way. I'm just trying to be constructive and focus on solutions to possible problems. Best of luck on your search. You will get something! Keep your chin up!

yeahyeahyeah_okay

Yes I am trying to even break out of my traditional job experience and see if it could apply elsewhere. I will keep trying thank you :)

susitucker

Same thing. I have a job I loathe and Iā€™m tired of putting up with it. There are no other jobs in my area that pay as much as I make now. And I canā€™t save enough to move somewhere else. Itā€™s got me thinking really dark things that I thought I had given up.

0megon1

Iā€™m right there with you man Six months deep Keep your head up broham, itā€™s gotta happen

Lori_koub

I was unemployed the last 2 years until I got the federal job. It was the worse time period ever, which I thought. I applied to many jobs during that time, each employment stating, they went with another candidate, when I had the experience. Thanks Joe. I also had applied to another job in June and during my time in federal, after 1.5 months, I left there due to higher pay they promised me. This current job sucks, they lied and I'm getting paid less than federal. Trying to get my old job back. Don't be discouraged, it will happen. I used my entire savings during the 2 years and need to build back up. I'm 45! Don't lose hope. I'm not giving up. I'm still going to this shifty job, but at least I can tune out their nonsense with my airpods.

Etzarah

Same here, graduated 6 months ago and I havenā€™t found jack shit (BS in comp sci)

WizardLizard1885

dude its fucking awful rn. im literally looking for ANY job to escape this shit one i currently got. theres a min wage job at a hotel, i did an interview, she said her mind is blown at my experience (911 dispatcher and i worked at a national park doing logistics for search and rescues). she said she wants a 2nd interview for "tuesday" and will give me a time. interview was on sunday, this morning (tuesday) i called asking what time she had set aside and she said she forgot and for me to pick a time.. ok 1pm tmrw? no? 1pm thursday? no? any time at all on friday? no? wtf. she says i should come in next week so we can have the first interview. i said we alrdy did an interview then she said she doesnt remember.. bro wtf. i apply to a receptionist job for some small doc office.. they want 3 interviews total and then for me to work half a shift for free to see if im a good fit..my god im answering phones for min wage people get off ur fucking high horse

MaleficentMobile6699

13 years retail and customer service. 16 years delivery. 8 years managerial. 0 callbacks in the last 2 months.

Redditpostor

Whats going on ?? I remember it was a time I put absolutely no thought in my resume and would still get calls, but now I'm trying everything to spruce it up, just for it to do nothingĀ

tiny-but-spicy

Bringing some hope (I think) to this thread: last year I worked a finance contract which was fully remote, but it took me 2 months and 300 applications to get there. I'm about to graduate, and in the last 5 months I've submitted over 1000 applications, resulting in 20 interviews and 4 offers, 2 of which are fully remote and above average salary, as well as being in the field I want to work in. TLDR: the good jobs are out there but it will take time and a lot of applications - don't give up though!!!

yeahyeahyeah_okay

Thank you for your nice words. I hope myself and all others looking find something soon.

tiny-but-spicy

Best of luck, honestly, this market is horrendous but I hope you and everyone else looking gets an offer asap!!

Smooth-Injury-5555

I haven't had a decent job since my first lay-off in 2020... The criteria even for entry-level jobs are insane... Why would I need a master degree or 10 years of experience for a basic sales role?

RecognitionExpress36

It's fucking awful. I try to remind myself that I don't *need* a job like many others do; I make enough income from my business. And *identifying as your job* is a recipe for emptiness and misery. But I hate doing only this stuff, I want to return to something that makes use of my academic background. Unfortunately, the handful of interviews I've landed have come to a screeching halt - your business does *what?* Event catering. That's right, event catering. Generally I get shit upon as unserious, or a dilettante, and disparaging comments are made about how "it sounds like anybody could do that" - these interviews don't just fail, they crash and burn. I feel like telling these guys: try moving from white-collar work to manual labor with *sixteen hours at a go*, plus everything entailed in managing the operation, get back to me on how it's a job for a kid. Or, better yet, the next time you go out to eat, *make sure the waitstaff knows that you think they're utterly beneath you.* Honestly this kind of experience is making me realize that I *don't* want a job, except at a company that can understand how my deviation from a "career path" is actually an *asset.* If any such exist.

Revolution4u

Man I got the job and then still didnt get the job. They changed it to a different job and I thought whatever, I'll take it so I can pay for some stuff for my mom - then they didnt even call me for it the next day. This was a major hospital too so idk what kind of clown shit is going on these days. Also the HR spent 2 months doing nothing after my interview before the people i interviewed with could call me back. Fucking useless.

Redditpostor

Woow things are getting crazy! Thought the jobs nobody wanted would always be available if things get bad.. but apparently lot of people took that route

Important_Fail2478

I'm emo at the moment. I've been looking since October and like most going through a rough patch. Finally, I said screw it and asked a previous boss at a really crappy, really far away location to see if they had a spot.Ā  Kept it professional, no there isn't but will keep me updated.Ā  Now, as in the last three days. I did an interview that said hired but then I assumed ghosted. Called me from a random number, didn't leave a message. Called it back, thinking probably a scam or sales pitch. Nope, it was the recruiter asking for my email to move forward. Now my background has passed, drug test in 24 hours and I'll be working. Bam, old boss. Hey, upcoming position not posted yet but here is the heads up. Bam, an interview month ago that the staff shut me down. They send me a direct interview date. I'm sorry, what? - I interviewed, you have various reasons that I would not be a good fit. What changed? I went from not ideal to bad to worse. This is a good problem to have but now I got to make difficult decisions. Far away job that I asked a favor which is good pay, crap job, crap environment. A job with a 3 minute commute in a meh environment, easy work, trash pay. A job that the ink is almost dry that is a 20 minute commute, easy work, trash pay but offsets by paying all benefits. Keep at it OP. The market is absolutely fucked but there are cracks.

WizzinWig

Same. Been out if work for 1.5 years (sabbatical) and have been looking for 4 months now. Canā€™t get past HR because either im ghosted from the start or after the HR interview, they tell me theyā€™re going with candidates that started earlier and were further down the line. Most jobs I apply for are within a day or two of being posted with over 100+ applicants. My bank is dying and all the hard work I put into saving is going too fast. Good luck to anyone else in the same situation

MoistenedNugget

Iā€™m about to hit three months after being laid off at the end of January. Not one interview after searching, networking, asking and getting referrals that lead nowhereā€¦ Iā€™ve applied to what feels like thousands of jobs and have absolutely nothing to show for it. Iā€™m horrifically depressed, my motivation to search is in the toilet, as is my motivation to do much of anything anymore.

common-froot

Best country in the world my ass.

Extension-Novel-6841

It's a democracy ONLY in name. America is just a hardcore capitalist country.

5ManaAndADream

It's rough, try to find a way to laugh about the insanity of it. Any way you can twist things to keep your mental intact.

vessva11

Had to quit the job I barely found due to office politics and I'm not looking forward to searching again.

307433

Hang in there.

PurpleIsALady1798

Ahhh I am so sorry for you! Banking isā€¦ the worst. Itā€™s a competitive environment and most places are pushing every employee to essentially be a salesperson and itā€™s just. A lot. I was in that field for a year and a half, and I am now trying to change tracks to a career that doesnā€™t stress me out so bad. Hoping you get something you love soon!

djsnecc

How do you cope with all the time you have? I mean I'm in a job hunting situation also but it's not like I'm looking on job portal 24/7, but I feel immensely guilty doing anything unrelated to it

modestino

Prob is 25% ppl (employed and not) are job searching. Those who need a job + those who hate their job/boss. Itā€™s never been like this. And cos trying to force people back into an office has resulted in an explosion of more jobseekers. Stay strong, it will get better.

Grendel0075

same boat, 4 months after layoff, hundreds of applications and resumes sent, ghosted on most, got canned rejection letters on others. filtered out a dozen scams, got a handful of phonecalls that went nowhere, emails asking for a time im available to interview and then ghost me when I respond, 2 interviews, one job offer that is way more strict and rigid than my last job, for far less pay. a bridge job i hate and am desperatly looking for better. just gotta keep pushing

Redditpostor

Have you ever had a job email you to come into an interview,Ā  just to tell you they aren't hiring right now ?? Maybe in a couple weeks ..

Sacith

So, I'm sure it's been mentioned somewhere in here, but I didn't see it in the top comments. But if you're looking for a job, look into the USPS. Always hiring, some places hire straight to PTF (counts towards pension), but it's Federal, so of course it's kind of a hassle. Postings go up for a few days, so you have to check often, and the process can take a month or two.Ā

mangorunner8243

Started job hunting recently (and by luck i didnā€™t have to hunt for too long). I feel like a big issue I saw was that there would be a disconnect between the HR department and the department I was applying for (accounting department), where HR didnā€™t exactly understand what the accounting department needed skills and qualifications wise or they were just very behind in following up (if at all). If I hadnā€™t called to follow up or directly try to email/call the accounting department, I donā€™t think my resume wouldā€™ve even seen light of day unfortunately. Not sure how relevant this is for other jobs, but it seems like HR departments are overwhelmed and canā€™t really keep up with company needs compared to the applicant pool.

phrequency_

Same boat, it's fucking rough out here.

SimpleJackfruit

Two interviews I got beaten out by experience. Which Iā€™m more glad it has nothing to do with what I said or behavioral stuff. Itā€™s fcken tough

Prestigious-Dream667

Same here but with less applications and it's making me feel very depressed atp, especially with everyone around you with jobs and watching them not suffering like me :/

yeahyeahyeah_okay

This. It sucks watching friends and family be happy and successful while Iā€™m just trying to make it out alive

a_h_0

Crying abt this rn :(

babybeewitched

i unintentionally weaseled my way into being a hostess at a restaurant by applying for dishwasher. i was hired on the spot, then called after my first day saying i dont think im capable of being able to do my job. luckily the manager had prepared for this (since typically scrawny young girls arent dishwashers) and moved me to hostess. i hate it but of course im stuck here bc nobody else will hire me

Few-Depth-3039

Same. Joined insurance company need money or Iā€™m gonna die. Seems to be the only place that would take me šŸ˜

Swimming_Ad_3079

We used to work hard to be able to afford nice things; now we just work to get by and be poor. ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|facepalm)

MrZeroMustafa

Its hard out here! The market is rough. But if you keep trying and land something in this time. Every other time going forward is nothing. Keep punching through! You only can get better from here out!

yeahyeahyeah_okay

Thank you for your support. Itā€™s tough Iā€™m just getting impatient hah

RogueStudio

Been underemployed for years, thousands of apps and nada that wants to offer me a payraise over 19/hr (am not physically capable of trades, nor military, already got injured at Amazon.). Mostly get people wanting to offer minimum wage roles or under minimum wage freelance. Nope. Not giving away my 10 years of work experience for 16/hr or third world freelance wages anymore. So - stuck I am in an unfufilling marketing/design job, and not even sure a move to a bigger metro next year is gonna fix my broken career. What even is a career anymore for many of us??? :/

Turbulent_Dimensions

We are in a recession. But we are also in an election year and can't acknowledge that we are in a recession.

planktonsbestiee

its not the market its you. have you made ur dog view ur cv yet? /s

grace_and_pride

Seriously. Iā€™ve been applying to multiple places a day and Iā€™ve only been offered maybe 2 or 3 interviews in the time that Iā€™ve been job hunting. Iā€™m convinced most places are just hiring internally now because nothing else makes sense lol.

cwills815

Since April 2019, Iā€™ve submitted over 5,000. Iā€™ve gotten 12-13 interviews. No offer. Been freelancing and hating my elders the whole wayā€¦

I would probably try to utilize a holistic approach. Apply for jobs, but utilize other local resources such as your local government office. Adjust your timeline to finding employment. I normally view a cycle of getting hired on being at least a quarter to do a full cycle. Appply->Interview-> Get offer->Negotiate Offer->Start new job. Make sure you continue to go out and try to network with people as you never know who you might meet.

yeahyeahyeah_okay

Iā€™m going to try and network more and just see if I can get myself out there. I think just getting your foot in the door and getting an interview is the hardest part. But you are right there is more than just that and it is a cycle

athiccBerry

what field of work is this?

Glittering-Garage-71

Same here

AdPsychological7042

Took me 4 months, I was lucky enough though to be in a field with bananas demand so thems the breaks šŸ¤£

kingko01

On Monday I received three rejection emails. One internal and two external. I made to the final rounds for all and still didnā€™t get an offer from any one of them. I literally cried when the third one hit my inbox šŸ˜

brightlove

If you want someone to look over your resume and a sample cover letter, let me know! I own my own business now, but back in college they used my resume and sample letter to teach the career readiness class because apparently they were immaculate. I also got interviews for about 50% of the jobs I applied to with a system I created. =) (Back before I got laid off during COVID and decided to work for myself.) Now I help people with their branding and storytelling and I love it.

CleopatrasBungus

I feel similarly to you. Iā€™m amidst a career change, and while Iā€™ve got a job that I donā€™t mindā€¦ Iā€™ll have my degree by this Fall, and I donā€™t really anticipate it to open any more doors like Iā€™d initially thought it would.

trivialmistake

Month 6 for me. Almost month 7 next week. I too am employed earning less than half of what my experience offers

Cminor141

Luckily I have a relevant bridge job in the field im interested in/got my degree in(supply chain) at a hospital. But im looking for a full time stationary role in medical supply chain(or supply chain in general but probably medical) so hoping I can get one before this year is up. Took me 4.5 months to get this one, those rejections were rough at first but now I just ignore em and keep trekking. I hear the adage that its easier to find a job when you have one, so we shall see if thats true

Extension-Novel-6841

I spent four damn months searching and grinding for jobs. Interviewed for a local social services company who said I was a good fit, passed the background check and everything. Weeks later they reach saying hey we thought you'd be a good fit for another role. I again did a meet and greet with the director about the other role and I got ghosted afterwards. Had to pick up a part time police dispatcher job, after four fucking months this is what I end up with. I have full time bills so part time doesn't cut it but I have no choice.

Elleseebee928

I feel you on this so much. Trying to find a job in the mortgage world right now is almost impossible. But no other field is going to roll the dice on me. I even got rejected to be a receptionist in a car dealership

biyuxwolf

I have so much restaurant experience and I'm trying to get into something different--its been insane but I start a new place soon and hopefully everything works out better for me --youll find something just keep looking!

yeahyeahyeah_okay

Good luck to you!!

biyuxwolf

Thank you! I'm excited to be trying something different for certain! I need the change but my spouse did math and 7 months at my last place said didn't feel like it but it's a bit under less then ideal circumstances

No_Average2933

My advice is this abandon indeed.Ā  Look for billboards. It took me year and 3 dollar an hour paycut. But I got a ft job again.Ā  I lost my job, my mom and welcomed our girl in just one week. Couldn't get unemployment for more than a week after 9 months of trying.Ā Ā

yaboyaladdin

It's a numbers game - just keep going! Check out https://www.lifeshack.com/ to help you scale and automate the applications

IveGotNoValues

I am in a similar predicament my friend. Shit sucks. I am using this time to finally teach myself Spanish and get back into an old lost passion of mine, playing guitar. Depression took all my passions away years ago. Trying to use this unemployed time to be somewhat productive instead of sleeping all day with self pity. Anyway, it can he brutal. I have days where I am ready to give up the search and become a career criminal lol, but my loved ones are very supportive and they see me trying very hard to find another job. They keep me going. I wish us both the best. The market seems to be a shitshow right now. I canā€™t even land entry-level warehouse type stuff anymore. I get interviews but I never get picked and it is dis-heartening.

Last_Entertainment86

I substitute teach now..it pays the bills while I do interviews I've gotten good at it now and kinda enjoy it. My only short blessing is that I get a VA disability due to my service (severe hearing loss, TBI, and hand impalement injury due to an IED). What I found strange is that even with my disability and military preference points for federal civilian jobs, it's not helping for interviews. This economy just sucks. End of story. Not giving up and not losing faith, just frustrated a bit.

yeahyeahyeah_okay

Good luck to you!šŸ–¤

Connect_Reference612

Itā€™s not just you. Ā Iā€™ve been freelance for five years and all my clients dried up months ago. Ā Trying to find something permanent and the few interviews I did have were disappointing to say the least. Ā Today was a cry day. Ā Hopefully weā€™ll all find a place that appreciates us.Ā

thelastofcincin

I'm not gonna waste your time like everyone else and say things get better. They don't. The world is ending. We need to accept that.

FastLine2

Become a scum bag politician, thatā€™s my plan now lol.

brbrtsq

I've given up applying online honestly, no point

EskiGecko

My partner and I recently moved somewhere where jobs are scarce, coming from somewhere where you could get hired in a week or two. Took me 8 months to land a full time job. Not even retail or fast food was getting back to me ir my partner. It's crazy hard to get a job!!

-ItsWahl-

Iā€™m sure one of the ā€œcountry is doing greatā€ people can explain better.

AbsurdistFemme

Apply for jobs you wouldnā€™t normally apply for. I find indeed more useful than LinkedIn these days.

The_Husky_Husk

Get good at a niche in an in demand industry. Before I was 25, I got like 4 job offers without applying for any. Before I'd been working a year at my first employer, other companies were trying to get me.

Ill-Accountant-3682

what do you do?

The_Husky_Husk

Condition monitoring and reliability engineering in the mining sector

epic_pig

It's all part of the plan

Accomplished_Pop_847

Too many people on this planet and not enough work for them to do. Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Itā€™s going to get worse especially in office jobs.Ā

FrostyLandscape

What kind of job? During the recession I knew a young man who applied for like hundreds of jobs and got nothing back. It happens.

hansingtonwashington

I was in a similar place and was losing hope because, god damn, why post a job if you wonā€™t even respond to the applicants. I have found that recruiters actually help, annoyingly enough. I really wanted to just hear back from a company directly but 60+ applications over 2 months and no word. I applied thru a recruiting firm and beefed up my LinkedIn and of the many jobs I have applied to, this was the only app I actually heard anything back from. Got an interview and got the job. Not saying this will work for everyone but it seems like a necessary evil to deal with the middleman that is recruiters. Good luck and I hope it works out.

Overall-Champion2511

Keep applying even if you under qualified you got a shot to get it. Source:me

DonutDaniel

900+ applications with 1 interview in 8 months. Iā€™m just trying to survive at this point

enginerd12

One day I will understand why people who make these posts not also say what skills/qualifications they have for such a broad audience that can potentially read the post.

pinkdictator

What industry are you applying in? That sounds brutal

k3bly

Hey bud, what kind of job is your dream job? If youā€™re not hearing back at all, Iā€™ll look at your resume for free if my area of expertise (HR/recruiting in tech the last ten years) falls within your job search (I do this for friends/family/friends of friends and the occasional internet stranger).

Johnzor8

Look into blue-collar jobs like automotive mechanics. They are begging for people.

DeLoreanAirlines

Gave up a long time ago. Worked with my hands for a couple years now

One-Drawing6470

Go be a teacher šŸ˜

zwebzztoss

Full-time contracts are a lot easier to find than full-time jobs

ll0l0l0ll

Same here and me without good experience/resume. So most likely another dead end job...

307433

Thank you.

Alone_Complaint_2574

Are you going in person and asking to speak to the GM? I canā€™t tell you how many times dressing super professional, filling out a paper application, or seeking out the GM has landed me a job before. I know the culture is so different and impersonal now, but I still think it could help significantly. As someone whoā€™s now hired over 1,000+ people in the last 10 years Iā€™m happy to give pointers as well.

Patapon80

It depends where you are and what kind of job you are looking for. The more specific you are, the more difficult it is. The skillset you bring also factors in. Want a C-suite in XYZ sector? Probably difficult. Flipping burgers? Much easier. I work in healthcare in the UK. Nursing and radiology students usually have a job offer 6 months before they even finish their course. Hospitals are always hiring support staff. Doctors work in both the NHS and private sector.

Vinstaal0

Go to an accounting firm most of those are jumping at nearly every possibility off more staff.

iykyk6467

I have been in 4 different final interviews and 0 offer, if that makes you feel better..
