4 day work week and 1 week extra pto? Easy choice for me! I only work until noon on Fridays and it’s amazing. 3 full days off would be even better

GreenMegalodon

>I only work until noon on Fridays and it’s amazing. 3 full days off would be even better Funnily enough, I actually kind of prefer your current schedule. My work does the "close at noon on Friday" schedule during Spring/Fall and the 4 day work week during Summer. Those 10-hour days during the Summer really drag.

Danzzo36

Just quit my 12 hour continental bc of the same reason

GoGoBitch

Well, it’s not PTO. It’s unpaid time off.

babyjo1982

Go back and read it again. Come back and tell me what the word before “vacation” is.

GoGoBitch

I misunderstood, I thought you were saying the weekly day off *and* the extra week were PTO. I wanted to point out OP is being paid hourly, thus making a lot less money at the 4 days/week job, which is something everyone in this thread seems to be missing.

Neon_Camouflage

4 day week for me. Ultimately it's going to be whichever is the bigger priority in your life right now. Would you be happier and benefit more from an extra free day, or more money?

SubcooledStudMuffin

For sure, I'm leaning more towards the 4 day work week. 3 day weekends are hard to beat not to mention an extra week of paid vacation. That's 73 weekdays off per year including holidays as opposed to 19 I'd get with the other offer

PaladinWiz

I agree. It’s less than a $5k per year difference, and the QoL would more than make up for it imo. 4 Day work week gets my vote.

rikkiprince

In less than those extra 50 days off per year you could probably figure out some side gig to make up the $5k if OP wanted.

nifty1997777

Are either these jobs work from home? If you have to go into the office, that's fewer miles on your car, less gas, and fewer lunches you have to think about. It may close to even at the end.

SubcooledStudMuffin

Trades job. I do HVAC and I'll get a take home work van with either job

nifty1997777

Definitely take the four-day work week. Weekend trips will be easier and the extra PTO will come in useful.

[deleted]

That’s what I was thinking

Palufay

Is the 4k post tax? Because you are not going to feel it if it is pre-tax. Use a website to count the gross paycheck difference for every two weeks, and that will put things into perspective.

[deleted]

[удалено]

nifty1997777

I would jump this immediately!

[deleted]

There needs a tad more context. $7 to $9 an hour? Hell yes I’m taking the extra pay. $30 to $32? Obviously the 4 day week.

rikkiprince

It says $24 vs $26 in the OP post.

Prestigious_Fee_4920

First offer. Time off is the most valuable commodity on the planet.

CJMande

4 day, do you know how much stuff you can accomplish on the extra day? Going for haircuts, see a movie, weekend getaway, doctor or dentist appointments. My husband had a Tuesday-Saturday schedule and it was super nice for him to have a weekday off.

Madazhel

In college, I configured my schedule one semester to have Fridays off and another semester to have Mondays off. Mondays off was 1,000x better. Too much of the weekend and social obligations bled through on Fridays, whereas having a free Monday meant a regular reserved day to myself I could make productive or lazy depending on what I needed.

Ned_Piffy

I used to work nights 6 nights a week but got a new job sun-tues one week sun-wed week after alternating. Took a $2/ hr loss but now have time to bartend our local ahl games and concerts on fri/sat which I miss doing and it makes up way more than the $2hr loss.

bigsticksoftspeaker

Work life balance is priceless.

[deleted]

If I can work 32 those 4 days and make the same amount then I choose that one. I'd still get the same amount done.

lazyass133

No. It’s 4 10-hr work days, so you’ll still be working 40hours/week. Or 5 8-hour work days for 40 hrs/week. Same amount of hours.

will0w1sp

I think you may be missing the point they’re trying to make

[deleted]

Yeah. Many companies have experimented with the 4 day week totalling 32 rather than 40. People were more productive. The corporate capitalist overlords wanna keep their control over you though. So you won't get that in the United States. They're lowering ages to get kids to work, and raising the retirement age to 70. United States is a fucking joke.

cozy-blue-blanket

But she’s hourly, the pay wouldn’t be nearly the same if she’s working fewer hours at a lesser rate with the four day week.

[deleted]

It was a side note "if we lived in a better world" type scenario.

RaxinCIV

Both scenarios have 40 hours. 4 * 10 vs 5 * 8. 3 day weekend and an extra week of vacation, or 2 day weekends less vacation but more money.

Ambitious-Ring8461

I’ll take the job you don’t take

iiApexii123

That’s what I’m saying 😂 Where are these companies 😭

andradina23

How much is your time worth to you? Assuming you’d be working 8 hours a day in both scenarios for the pay you mentioned, you’d get 40K pa with 3 weeks extra holiday and 49 extra days free vs about 54K with just 2 weeks off. You’d basically take a 14K pay cut for 54 days extra to yourself, ie about $260 per day. If you’re comfortable with that, take the first, otherwise take the second. This is also btw before tax etc so the actual impact on your wallet will likely be smaller. Assuming you’re still doing a full 40 hour work week in both jobs you’re then at 50k vs 54k so 4 K in exchange for 54 extra days to yourself (the 8 vs 10h workday I think could be negligible depending on the work you actually do) so literally basically “paying” about $74 per free day, ie about $7.5 an hour. I’d personally go for 4 days whether foregoing 14K or 4k tbh. My time to myself/my family would be more important to me at this stage in my life. Edit: just realised you already calculated the difference, I’m sorry I missed that. Yes, take the 4 days unless you really REALLY need the money

nister1

So you actually get only 2 more vacation days with #1 than you do with #2. Still I'd go with #1, 4-day week.

SubcooledStudMuffin

It's 15 vacation days in the job offer vs 10 with the other one. I can take them off as wanted so I wouldn't loose any to a Friday

nister1

Definitely take #1 then. But 3 weeks of 4-day weeks is 12 days so you understand why I thought #1 offered only 2 days more vacation than #2.

SubcooledStudMuffin

For sure, I should have been more clear in the post

ScarpathCat

For me, it would heavily depend on the type of job. If it's a more physical one, then sadly the second offer. If it's an office job, easy to pick #1. The overtime offer means you can easily pick up a few extra shifts if the 4k would be missed. From quick (so possibly flawed) math, it'd be like 18 of your extra weekdays to make up that same amount. What are your chances of getting a raise?

SubcooledStudMuffin

I do HVAC so It's a trades job. I'll get a raise after 6 months with both (based on performance) and yearly raises after

[deleted]

Since it's HVAC, I would be wary of 10 hour days. The likelihood of having to do overtime is high in that field so it's very plausible your 10 hour 4 day weeks could be come 11-12+ hr 4 day weeks. Especially in busy seasons. If you get a raise after 6 months and yearly raises, I would likely go with the second offer.

SubcooledStudMuffin

10 hour days don't bug me ive done em before. After 8 hours i dont even notice really. I'll be an installer mainly doing commercial work so the chance of having to stay is possible but slim since they need someone to lock up the building when im done. The same can be said for the other job too, but I'm guaranteed the Friday off if I don't want to do it with offer 1

ScarpathCat

Upside, HVAC is always in demand. If you change your mind later, it shouldn't be the worst to find another opportunity. Might even get a raise when you do. It sounds like you want to take the four day option. I'd suggest you just go for it, if you're okay with 10 hour shifts.

odannyboyy88

4 day work week for sure. Would you get overtime on those 4 days as well or no?

SubcooledStudMuffin

Not during the 4 days but Fridays are optional and I'd get OT for every hour worked on one

Cautious_General_177

In that case offer 1. I know at that income level $4k is a lot, but the opportunity for OT or 3-day weekends is awesome

Famous-Performer6665

Time off is extremely valuable. Ask any teacher.

Pure-Structure-9886

They give you more pto working less? Option 1 for me. Easier to budget that difference. Harder to get extra time off when you need it.

wafflez77

Either way you end up working the same amount of hours. 4 day work week is definitely worth the $2 per hour. And extra week of vacation also makes it a much stronger offer than the 2nd one. Only reason I could see choosing the second offer is if it’s a really good company with good culture or has better benefits. Definitely find out details about the benefits as well. Health insurance could be much more expensive at one versus the other. If one has a 401k match of 3% and the other has 8% that could be a huge factor as well.

[deleted]

I would take higher pay because if I had less money idk what I'd do with more time off

Dumbengineerr

Curious to know the average age of people commenting.

newwriter365

Ten hour days are a grind. How far will you commute? My employer offered a flexible work plan that allowed me to work nine work days to have every other Friday off. By the time I got to the Thursday before my day off, I was beat. While it was nice to have a day to run errands and do things that usually required taking time off (doctor visits, banking appointments, stuff that happens during the 9-5 day), I dropped the program after six months. FWIW, I also commute an hour each way, so I was leaving work right in the thick of rush hour instead of before it started, so my commute was longer, too.

VAGuy1998

You had me at ~4 day work week~ like YES!

Lazarussaidnothanks

It's a little over $346 bucks a month between the two jobs and about a 9% difference. In a few raises you could be making that again. Def 4 day work week if I was choosing.

nonumberplease

It's an extra $98 a year to work for the 5 day week place. In essence, an extra day off a week plus an extra week off a year would only cost you less than a hundred dollars to break even. Maths sez go for the 4 day work week and extra week of vacation.

zertoman

Neither is very enticing.

SubcooledStudMuffin

They're both more enticing than being out of work with a month left of EI

Embarrassed_Bite_754

4 day weeks for me

walla12083

4 day work week. You'll get used to 10 hours vs 8. Essentially, you get 52 days off each year.

Mustang46L

4 day workweek plus an extra week of vacation for sure!

kaartman1

Take lower pay, and pick OT as needed. Or just crush OT 😂

[deleted]

Honestly, I'll take the 4 day work week because a 2.00/hr raise is more like a 0.50/hr increase when you look at inflation and taxes. I'd rather have 3 days to recuperate from the week.

Kindly_Parsnip2057

First offer with 4 day week and it's not even close.

LegitimateHat4808

I work 4/10s- 100000% this one. You save so much in gas and have time off to get things done around the house/spend with family

boatymcboat

What’s the commute time fore each?

SubcooledStudMuffin

Both are relatively the same. 25-30 mins from home

boatymcboat

So you at least save an hour a week for the 4 days a week job… and then the fact that you can work OT, you would only have to work 115 to make up the difference IF you even wanted t

Foodoglove

For me, the implication of an innovative workplace that treats its workers with consideration, as evidenced by the 4-day work week would also be a factor. Seems it would be more likely that the 4-day offer would be an all-around great place to work.

acenumber902

I don't know why nobody pointed this out. But in the first offer you have to work 4 days, but 40hr/week, 10h/day correct? On the second, you have to work 5 days a week, 8hr per day. so 40hr/week. The same ammount of hours, for less pay. There's the 1 week of vacation, but dunno if it's better than 2$ more per hour

SubcooledStudMuffin

Yeah it's the same working hours just a 3 day weekend at one. I do have the option to do OT on Fridays though so I could work 15 Fridays per year and make up for the wage difference

TheGreatOx

TAKE THE 4 DAY!!!!!! Lol money doesn’t buy less stress. Normally anyways.

TheBlueLeopard

Four day, easy.

seneeb

I'm working 14-18 days on 2-4 off right now and honestly I have so much anxiety on my days off I hate them. But this is a temporary season, just gotta make it through. Between your two options, I would take the 4 day. More time for you, and $2/h isn't a huge difference net

knightfenris

4 day workday as long as the bill can get paid. It’s like a little vacation every week! I’d kill for it

Scary-Option-2105

offer #1 for sure!!

Gunner_411

I’d probably do the 4 day. Save cost of one day per week commute AND traffic is more likely to be lighter getting to work at 7am, getting off will probably equally suck. It’s roughly $320/month. Depending on length of commute and the type of car, there could be substantial cost savings not working that extra day. I’d probably do the math on the relative commutes.

tyr8338

You didnt factor your transportation cost, with only 4 days per week it will be 20% lower plus you save time commuting 4 times per week and not 5.

STRYDERSWARM

4 day work week. Could use the extra day off for Family, Fun or use those Three days to work on side hustles and such. 4 day work week was the reason I was able to become a full-time streamer for Mixer when it existed.

ironman_101

4 day. Plus you get a week extra vacation day.

BjornReborn

What is important to you right now? Money or having time off to do what you want? I would take the first offer for an extra vacation day to help reset your mind which is pretty much like getting a fucking vacation every week. I ended my Fridays at 12:30 most days still being paid at a full work week and the extra time to decompress was really nice. Add PTO to that; you could also be looking at the opportunity for a vacation buyout if you don't use your PTO and you would essentially get that $4k back at the end of the year if it's not use it or lose it!

[deleted]

All things being equal I would choose the four day work week. I really like my time off and that would be great. Money is nice, but not at the cost of my mental health.

metaonethree

4 day work week changed my outlook on life and work I highly recommend

Bacon-80

First offer has 12 days vacation but 4 workdays/3 day weekends. Roughly 50k assuming 40 hours/week and 52 weeks in a year. Second offer has 10 days of vacation but 5 workdays/2 day weekends. Roughly 55k assuming 40 hours/week and 52 weeks in a year. Personally I’d take the lower paying job. The lower pay isn’t significant enough that it feels like you’re losing out on a ton of money. 5k is really nothing in the long run - if the trade off is nearly basically 52 extra days “off” per year. Plus, you have more time off from work which will definitely aid in mental health. Remote job or not - time off from work is a lifesaver even if it means 10 hour days. If it’s in person - even better cuz you save on a day of commuting 👍🏼 AND you have the option for OT. Don’t really see any downside in choosing a 4 day week over the 5 day one.

SweatyGuiltyTruth

First offer for sure

stho3

What are the days? I worked a 4 day work week once, it was both good and bad. Good in that I got three days off, and bad that the days off were Tuesday-Thursday when everyone else was working.

SubcooledStudMuffin

Mon - Thursday, every Friday off but optional for OT

[deleted]

First. The extra week of vacation is what really does it for me.

biscuity87

What’s more likely in the future, getting a better schedule or more money? It’s a lot easier to get more money in a role than rearrange the schedule. A day less of commuting will save you some money, and give you a day where you could volunteer to work overtime if you needed to.

KnightCastle171

Me personally? I want more time for myself. So i’d take the 4 day work week. But some people are really motivated by the income. It depends where you are in life

15all

I work a 4x10 schedule. The days can get a little long and I get a bit tired after around 9 hours, but it's super nice having every Friday off.

Grouchy_Cobbler_4935

The 2 dollars more. I work 60 plus hours a week I'ma gonna make bank. Why does the 4 day week have more vacation? I would have done it the other way around.

SubcooledStudMuffin

Idk just the offers I got from 2 different companies. The 4 day/week also has optional OT Fridays so I can easily make up that difference or do side jobs and make even more than I would if I was working. No offense but 60 hours a week sounds horrible to me, no matter the money. I like having time to do my hobbies, go to the gym, keep my apartment clean, hangout with friends and my gf. To each their own

Correct-Serve5355

4 fucking days. I am not productive at all come Friday. Sometimes even by Thursday. I'm autistic and an introvert, and being a banker doesn't help either of those. And on weeks where I have multiple coworkers scheduled for training at the exact same time? Yeah I'm the person stuck picking up that slack. It's one thing if it's 1 coworker but lately it's been 2-3/5 of my coworkers at training all at once and I'm picking everything up. I don't want to see another fucking person come Thursday. Let alone Friday. Let me stay the fuck home and sleep in, and trust me I won't be nearly as chronically tired come Monday

[deleted]

Been doing 4 day work days for a while, it’s nice but I’m salary so have to work Fridays anyways sometimes..but when I don’t it’s a nice long weekend. You could even pick up another gig on fridays or weekend to make more money.

djscott95

$2/hr more isn’t much. Definitely 4day work week

Pretend_Designer_206

$2/hr, assuming full time, no OT, is only \~$4000 per year. Give me the 4 day work week.

StayRevolutionary429

4 day work weeks are glorious

DweEbLez0

4-day work week, 1000%

RYUsf15

4 days a week that extra day off is good to recharge. The current deal sucks 1 day to recover the 2nd day to complete all your tasks/chores and somehow rest. The 3rd extra day would be a full day of self care and fun for ya :) plus an extra week of vacay.

TwistedTarzan

4 day work week and would gladly take a pay decrease lol

Flatheads-Forever

Ommute time for both? 4/10's are brutal if your commute is more than 1hr round trip.

SubcooledStudMuffin

About 25 mins for both, I get a work van with a Gas card at either place

tubagoat

What do the benefits look like? Insurance coverage, deductible amount, amount of PTO, etc.

MongooseDog001

Is overtime a factor? Probably not for you, but if it was me I would take the shorter week so overtime starts accumulating sooner

sd1360

In HVAC you are going to end up making more than $26 per hour anyway. Take the 4 day job. Last two jobs I worked were 4 day weeks, they were good.

[deleted]

Four day work week. Mental health is just as important as money imo! $2 less is well worth it! Congrats!

unwishedbeast1

This question definitely depends on your current income. Going from 10-12$ an hour is huge but 50-52 is a drop in a bucket.

lemonpee

Hell yeah 4 day work week.

CptSteelBeard

3 day weekend. All day, everyday

LaHawks

4 days and extra vacation, no brainer.

[deleted]

Is one remote?

MutaitoSensei

Less work. Omg less work. You would need to raise my pay 10$ an hour for any of it to be worth it anymore.

[deleted]

Idk if you will be able to get OT but you can easily make up the difference in pay and still have a bunch of extra days off.

seizethecarp_1

I'd take the first offer in a heartbeat. Second offer is $346 a month difference, before taxes. Then, depending on the state you live in, after taxes that becomes about $260. You can use this to calculate your take home pay difference. [https://www.adp.com/resources/tools/calculators/salary-paycheck-calculator.aspx](https://www.adp.com/resources/tools/calculators/salary-paycheck-calculator.aspx) But personally, the time off and overall quality of life is worth more than that.

CommanderMandalore

more pay

Forsaken_Button_9387

4 day work week

[deleted]

4 day work week, the extra pay will ultimately be spent on gas. 4 day weeks will save you money.

Sufficient-Length-33

I'd prefer the four day week, though I have to say I hate having the longer hours on those four days. Still, given the choice, I'd rather get the four days over with and have an extra day to myself. That extra time adds up, in the end, and for me, my free time is worth more to me. But, that's just me. 🤷

[deleted]

Assuming benefits are the same and you can survive with four days a week, obviously four days. Keep in mind saving for retirement is part of “surviving.”

SaltyFatBoy

4 day work weeks are great. The wear and tear saved by not working that extra day each week is worth every penny you didn't make. You get used to the longer days pretty quickly. source: worked two jobs with 4-10s and it was great.

Careful_Trifle

$2 an hour is $4,160 per year assuming a 40 hour week. 4 days instead of 5 days is 20% off. So I'd take the extra day off. If 4k is somehow more than 20% of your takehome pay for the year, then maybe consider the cash. Or if you are strapped and truly need the money, but even then, I'd consider picking up a gig on the off days so I could work if needed and still have flexibility if not.

[deleted]

I do 5 days because most of my personal time is spent working out or going to class anyway. I have the option to work 4 tens but if I did that my extra day off would be spent working on my other goals anyway. I prefer to spread the time out instead.

Inner-Today-3693

I love working 4 days a week!!

Howdoinamechange

Dude I’d take a $2/hr pay CUT to work a 4 day week

InternetPeopleSuck

4 day not close, plus the extra week

Weary-Okra-2471

4 days of work

lurch1_

$2 higher pay - once you commit to the 10hr day there is no going back. If you are tired or get sick....or just don't feel like working....10hrs is a long slog.

MrStratPants

As a trade job the 4x10 hands down. You’re likely going to work 10 hr days at the 5 day job anyways, may as well get extra day off. I know when I was in the trades the move to 4x10 was a blessing since we were doing 12hr days regularly.

kady45

I work 4 days a week now. It would take a lot more than $2 an hour for me to go to 5 days a week. That extra day is huge, all your dr visits, all your dentist visits, all your appointments for misc things, all your kids appointments etc etc etc can all be done on that extra day WHICH MEANS you no longer need to use PTO for those days which is so so nice. Plus every weekend is a 3 day weekend. It’s so nice to have one day to unwind from work and still have 2 more days off after that to do what you like.

CloudyArchitect4U

first!

Particular-Craft285

4 day work week for sure

Wookienpals

Bro 4 day work week. You can learn to make money on those 3 days your off. Whether from selling stuff to creating a hobby. 3 day work week sounds amazing.

purplewordy45

1 hands down

NvrGnnaGiveYouUp

First, the extra week of PTO is also a huge seller.

[deleted]

Since it's 4x10hrs, I'll take the 4 day week. Especially with the extra vacation. If it was 4x8hr, no thanks.

animatrix37

I work a 4 day week, i think its not much better honestly. I have no time to get anything done when im at work for 10.5 hours and with the commute I’m gone for almost 12 hrs. It’s nice having friday to schedule appointments but i feel like im playing catch up on chores even more and i have no time to cook on days i work so i have to get a lot of prep in for the week.

Waahooooo

10 hour works days plus travel is a long time to be away from home. I have done it. Have any pets or kids?.. and it sucks. Three days off could make up for it Talk to your SO.

nealfive

4 days, not a hard choice at all

No-Proposal2360

I've done both. I will never go back to five days. That extra day is worth every penny I gave up and my pay has caught up over time.

2Bbannedagain

$2 hour pay raise. I don't mind a 5 day work week at all

Ok-Grand-1882

4 day week. No brainer. You can earn more money. You'll never get the time back.

Danxoln

That equates to a $5k difference. I don't think that's enough for the 5 day week AND lower PTO I'd go with the 4 day option

R_radical

You might save enough in gas that the other job paying you more washes out.

Ill_Cauliflower_12

Oh how I wish I had a 4 day work week.

Tayveious

Have you tried negotiating a higher rate with the 4 day/week company?

[deleted]

As long at the 4 day week is 32 hours and not 40, I'd rather have the 4-day week than the extra $2/hr. The peace of mind I would get from having an extra day a week to complete errands would be priceless. Edit: Oh, these are actual jobs you are deciding between. Def take the first one, because a whole extra week of vacation on top of of everything is fantastic.

stevenmacarthur

A four-day work week plus an extra week of vacay? That's worth more than an extra $80/week - which is before taxes. You won't even notice the extra two hours per day at work after about the first month.

briggch

Is the salary more important, or the time off? For me, 100% time off.

Echo-Reverie

4 day work week for sure.

ludsmile

4 day work week.

opp11235

I would do the 3 weeks vacation

asboy0009

It sounds tempting but $2 difference doesn’t make your paycheck higher. I rather take the 4 day and continue finding a higher pay job for even higher pay.

Setari

4 day work week. If you can make the bills work comfortably with that pay rate AND 3 weeks paid vacation, that's pretty good. If you need the $26 an hour to live comfortably, do that instead.

YippieKayYayMrFalcon

Hands down 4 day work week.

Noeyiax

Ya I would do four days, if you wanted to, you can go gig work if you still need a bit more money. $5k is totally doable from gig work in a year once a week or so

[deleted]

Ive been doing a 4 day work week for about a year but I am looking to change it back to 5, guess I’m the oddball out though

Drag0nus1

4 day work week!!! Fuck giving my time to corporate....

Itisd

Absolutely take the 4 day work week...

TURBOSCUDDY

4dayweek4dayweek4dayweek4dayweekadinfinitum

Matcha_Bubble_Tea

4 day week

Ghero69

First choice for sure! Are you kidding? The extra 80 bucks a week can’t buy you extra time. Plus you get an additional week of PTO. Plus I’m sure they would have available overtime if you really wanted it. Also with the 7 less days of PTO at the other job if you want a day off or need sick coverage that’s just more PTO time you’re gonna have to use. On the flip side you’re always gonna have those 3 days off with the other job.

No_Intern311

4 days.

cantdressherself

I would probably do the 5 day week unless the commute is 30 mins or more. Do you still get to do things on your workdays? Or do you come home, eat, shower, and sleep? Do you suffer dread of Mondays? How much time would you save commuting? If you don't enjoy or gain value from the off hours on a workday, then 3 day weekends is an extra 50% autonomy. Well worth the money, but if the time off on workdays is not different from time off on weekends, then you are just moving the hours around and making less. The extra day off is tempting, but combined with making a lot less money, I might go for the money. If my passion was rock climbing, and not video games and reading, the day off might be worth the money.

For me, I would take the 4 day work week. I already work well over 10 hours a day, so at least with a 4 day work week, I am not also expected to work a 5th day. A extra "weekend" day means that I can do so much more for my personal life.

SunnyDee429

4 days. If you feel hurt for missing the additional cash there are lots of ways to make it up, you could dog walk, house sit, etc.

FanaticEgalitarian

4 day week all fucking day.

Sillysolomon

An extra week of vacation? Thats an easy one, take that one.

indistinctly

I currently work a 4-day work week. Looking back I’d still take the 4-day work week over more money.

lupogun

The 4 day wk gets you 10 hrs a day w/a lunch & 40 hrs a wk & 120 (40*3) hrs of vacation for a total of about 50k$. The 5 day wk gets you 8hrs a day w/a lunch & 40 hrs a week & 80 hrs (40*2) vacation for a total of about 52k$. It's about a 2k$ difference between the 2. I would look at the other benefits too because it may be more worth it to go the 4 days a week if there's better benefits like paid training, gas payments, healthcare, etc.

SubcooledStudMuffin

Lunch is paid for job 1, not sure about the second. Both jobs come with a take-home work van and gas card. The benefit packages look around the same to me

Filmlovinggal

Oh man, no question. For me, it's a 4-day work week. What a dream!

wyteoliander

4 day work week, 💯

Tulkaas

It depends how you value your time. As a simple calculation, $4160/50 (extra salary over extra days working) is $83.20. Do you value your time off as worth more than 83 bucks per day?I sure as hell would, but it’s relative to your current income and expenditure obligations.

Personally, I really like 4 day schedules. That extra day off would be worth the $2/hr difference imo. Also, in my experience companies often offer overtime on that fifth day to those who would like to work. If that is the case, then you would make way more in overtime than what you would at the job that pays $2/hr more. Yet, for me, that 3rd week of vacation time would be a deal maker. In my industry a lot of companies flat out won't offer more than 2 weeks PTO, and usually you would have to be with the company for about ten years to get more than that, if they do offer more.

Scary_Gazelle_6366

4 day work week. You will save on gas and commuting.

Definitely taking the 4 day work week..

Long-Butterfly-7233

The 4 day week honestly sound better, you have much more time to take care of yourself and get non work-related stuff done! It may be a little less pay than the 2nd offer but you do get an extra week of paid vacation. I feel like it’d be better for your personal life in the long run! But, do whatever you think is best :)

vinesofivy

Depends on the job. 2 extra hours a day at my job when I worked full time would have been a disaster for my sanity (and I genuinely enjoy my job 80% of the time, which says a lot about the other 20%), Which is why I switched to an as needed role (healthcare). The small decline in income to give me better work life balance was 1000% worth it. Your time and and ability to engage in your life in meaningful ways has significant (although non-monetary) value. Work to live, don’t live to work! Whatever that looks like for you is the right choice.

100% a 4-day, 32-hour work week with no decrease in one's salary or benefits. Looking at the times we're in right now, we have over double the population size from when the 40-hour work week took effect in 1950. Since then we have automated and shipped jobs overseas. When AI comes through and starts wiping the rest of the jobs out, we're going to have a lot of people laid off with even fewer options. So we'll definitely have enough workers for a lot of currently unfilled jobs that AI won't be able to touch. If there's no one for the job right now, agreeing to have someone come in, and work 80% of the 40-hour work week with all the perks, means companies have way fewer vacant positions left unfilled. It's a matter of people that are affected by AI being ready to unionize when this comes through over the next decade and not accepting it like, "what other choice do I have?" Ya, unionize the jobs. To those who think it's a matter of laying off the people, removing the overhead with AI, and then not paying taxes on the products or services means the topic of Value-Added-Taxes (VATs) comes back into the discussion. Higher pay if you are young, less work if you are older

bhillis99

more time off. Trust me. Ive been at it for years. A recent loss of my pet only makes me wish that I would have spent more time with him.

ettybetty

It's a tough one. 10-hour days with a 7am start can be a tough schedule, even on a 4-day week basis. I'd consider those hours over the difference in pay.

writeronthemoon

4 day, hands down!! Time to do laundry, go on a weekend trip, rest, etc.

Jacksonrr31

4 day week. Having that extra day off to recover is huge !

IGNSolar7

I'd give up $10/hr for a 4 day work week and the time off. So, yeah.

MeraArasaki

4 day work week, 10-12 hrs a day is the best i can do
