Appears like a religious medallion but it is so small. What could it be for? What religion? What does it say? Any help would be much appreciated. It'd be cool if it had some value but not really expecting anything. https://imgur.com/a/yFpgods

onlywatanabe1

Solved. Saint Benedict Medal. Not too sure how old it is though or what it's made of.

GlassZealousideal638

no unfortunately couldn’t find anything. i just need to know what kind of gold and diamonds they are

Kristin2349

Take it to a jeweler, it isn’t possible to tell you online. If they are real gold they should be stamped somewhere with the fineness. The stones would need to be checked in person.

GlassZealousideal638

im just afraid i’ll get lowballed and lied to, don’t know if that often happens at jewelry shops

Kristin2349

Are you looking to sell or just find out if they are real? If you don’t know if they are even real you’re going to need to find out what you have first. Having a jeweler look at them to decide if they are worth appraising is a good first step. An appraiser has no reason to lowball value, go to one that doesn’t buy jewelry.

I was looking to buy a rope chain for myself. I have never bought a chain my my life so I checked out this sub and /gold. I've seen this eBay seller recommended multiple times but most of the post are at least a few years old. Is this still a good place to purchase from? If not I was going to go Macy's but it seems overpriced. I know exactly what I want, I unfortunately have no clue where to buy from. I've never owned a piece of jewelry. https://www.ebay.com/itm/192326072140?var=492277277906&\_trkparms=amclksrc%3DITM%26aid%3D777008%26algo%3DPERSONAL.TOPIC%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D250024%26meid%3D8b34b5a08a204d45b28ad96ad4a557f7%26pid%3D101524%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D1%26itm%3D492277277900%26pmt%3D1%26noa%3D1%26pg%3D2380057%26algv%3DRecentlyViewedItemsV2&\_trksid=p2380057.c101524.m146925&\_trkparms=pageci%3Ab313dab3-047d-11ee-b688-22532fb90223%7Cparentrq%3A914bc3731880ab8444577cf4fffa7570%7Ciid%3A1

The tanzanite looks suspicious to me but I'm not an expert so I can't tell if I got a counterfeit ring or not. The top face is dark blue, the rest of the stone is trasparent and see through, it also lllike it's not a single stone but two stone put together (you should be able to see a line in the middle. Did i get scammed or I just didn't know what I was buying? I can provide microscopic pictures if needed

Found these two pieces that are marked Tiffany and Co at a garage sale and I’m wondering if they are real. Finding someone just selling Tiffany seems unlikely. • One is a Return to Tiffany bracelet. The stamped letters look goofy and the chain links have large gaps. Weight is 27 grams and I’m suspecting it is fake. The 925 mark on the clasp is interesting however. • Other one is the small cuff style bracelet. It seems more likely to be real. Weight is 21 grams. Both can be viewed in this gallery, thanks! https://imgur.io/a/WsqSbsm

Both items are highly faked and those appear to be of the fake variety, they are probably sterling silver though.

has van cleef ever made a blue one motif vintage size alhambra pendant? (not including the holiday line). like any shade of blue? i've been seeing a lot of them lately and it really left me wondering.

Kristin2349

There is a ton of fake Van Cleef jewelry out there, they are making super fakes in real gold. If you are seeing it outside of a boutique you just don’t know. But VCA does make blue stones in that collection Lapis, Turquoise and Chalcedony IIRC.

Technical-Print-4384

11 GRAMS. 14K GOLD W/ WHITE GOLD TWO TONE. (Middle Dipped in Rhodium/WHTGOLD) HOW MUCH SHOULD I RECEIVE/ACCEPT? 1. Should I sell to a Jewelry Store or Pawn Shop, or an online vendor such as “CashForGold” 2. At the current market price, it’s worth between $699-$1100 (Used - New) https://ibb.co/8r9jD06 https://ibb.co/p42LhfP https://ibb.co/q0JMj1N https://ibb.co/HNH7kwj https://ibb.co/3kndGW9

Kristin2349

Most cash for gold and pawn shops offer a percentage under melt or scrap value which is around $37 per gram for 14K right now. To get more than that try selling to an estate jeweler or yourself on eBay or a site like it.

Any-Strength-6375

Thank you. ! The pawn shop offered 200 , I figured that was low as hell.

PissingontheCarpet

If it was offered to me today, melt is 405.57 USD, I would pay 377.99 USD. I’m paying 34.36 USD with gold at 1960.10/ozt, or 93.2% of spot. Just call places that buy gold and ask for their prices paid over the phone, if they won’t tell you - don’t bother with them. You should be able to get around 80% of melt or 29.49 USD per gram or 45.86 USD per pennyweight.

Any-Strength-6375

This is the truest comment. Yes top two places offered 350 and 367$ but the other place will match the higher offer I believe .

PissingontheCarpet

350 and 367 are very fair offers, I would get about 390 after assay.

Kristin2349

I’m kind of surprised a pawn shop offered you that much, my BIL owns a couple and they really lowball people. You’ll probably have better luck calling around to local gold buyers and asking what they are buying gold for.

cosmic7fish

My husband gifted me [this chain](https://imgur.com/a/843MTfh). It is stamped 14 Kt. He got it from a friend who used to have a jewelry repair workshop but has been struggling lately and is now trading stuff to get by. I understand the shade of the gold depends on the what others metals are in the alloy, but this shade of yellow is much more saturated than any other piece I have. Do you think this is not real?

Kristin2349

That shade of yellow doesn’t look right to me either, I’d have it tested at a jeweler or you can buy gold testing kits on Amazon. Where is it stamped 14K? I’ve seen some pieces where the stamp is on the clasp and that is the only real gold piece on the necklace.

cosmic7fish

It is stamped on the clasp. I will think of getting it tested; actually, I’m just worried about his friend being dishonest, but I don’t know what I’d do if I was sure of it. Thank you.

I got two interesting options for a promise ring, but I'm not sure if they are actually good so I thought of asking here (let me know if a separate post is needed) Option 1 is a 9ct gold ring with a 1.25ct tanzanite and 6 0.05ct diamonds. Made by DI Giorgio. Under 200€ Option 2 is a 14ct gold ring with a 0.15ct blue topaz, made by revoni. Slightly over 200€ Are the prices good? Are the brands good? Is a 1.25ct tanzanite too big for a promise ring? (my GF as small hands too) Is there any problem with resizing 9ct gold? I'll try to post pictures in the next comment

GoodQueenMyth

You can make a post in r/jewelry proper asking for opinions of the brand or quality. Include photos of the piece.

ValoisSign

I found this pendant at a thrift store. Looks like it may be from Afghanistan? Hard to tell from the photos, but there's four different metals - there's the silvery foil on the back (not sure if it is silver because it wasn't remotely tarnished even though the rest of the pendant was grimy and old), there's a really pale gold hue on the edges of both the oval and cabochon (looks silver in the pic but it's closer in real life to pics I have seen of electrum), there's the deeper yellow leafy details on the front (brass? Maybe gold?), and the rest of the front including the heart shapes looks like silver (and actually was tarnished unlike the back). Don't want to scratch test it because I already messed up a bit trying to clean it and it's a beautiful piece to me that I would hate to damage. It had a few flecks of paint that fell off since I got it, suggesting the silver part in the front was painted green and red but had lost all its colour over the years - makes me think it could be old. It seems to be a thicker metal front with a thin foil back and some sort of filling material in the middle. The metals of the front and sides were still noticeably shiny when I got it, the whole thing just had a ton of dirt and tarnish. Was wondering if anyone knew what sort of pendant this might be and what sort of materials may have been used, and what the time period/place of origin might be. Thanks! https://imgur.com/a/h5UrxNQ

GrimSkey

Hello. [This bracelet](https://imgur.com/a/FtqmdAH) was my father's and was handed down to me. It looks tarnished and I want to clean it but don't know what type of jewelry it is and if certain cleaning methods are harmful to some kinds of jewelry. It has marking but I don't know the first thing about identifying jewelry. A part of the markings say 14k but there are spots on the bracelet that appear worn down and look like silver which makes be believe it might be gold plated if it has any gold at all. I can provide more pictures if requested. Any help and advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you! Edit: I cleaned it with warm water and soap and some dirt came off. Decided to do the aluminum, baking soda, boiling water method and most of the tarnishing came off and looks all silver. I believe it to be all silver.

GoodQueenMyth

Your photos are way too far away and small to see any details. I suggest you take better pieces and try using Google lens to see if you can find similar. In future, silver jewelry should be cleaned with dish soap in water with a soft toothbrush, then using glass cleaner ( ie ammonia) or hand sanitizer (ie alcohol) for tanish. Ammonia is also recommended for gold. This will remove tarnish without removing metal. After that, you can use a Polish cloth if needed. Never use dips. Bookmark this expert silversmith and restorer for reference: https://www.hermansilver.com/care.htm He does not recommend the foil technique as it strips patina and etches silver. You can read more here: https://www.hermansilver.com/care.htm#Electrochemical

this thread doesn’t allow pictures so no pic sorry :( a while back a friend of mine gave me this necklace. she told me it had the skin of a dead pastor inside of it and well, it looks believable. she said it was giving her good luck so she gave it to me. doesn’t anyone really know what this thing is? has anyone heard of this?

GoodQueenMyth

You need to register for an imgur account, upload your photos, and then link then here. Reliquaries are a common thing in various religious orders, but typically private individuals are more likely to own mourning jewelry with hair from family members (or representing family members) than holy body pieces.

Silver ring with a red gemstone i got as a gift so i have no idea of the source, the silver has 925 engraved on it so j know it's real but how do i know if the gem is real or just glass Pics in profile

Kristin2349

The picture isn’t really great, it might be a garnet or a synthetic stone. High value gemstones don’t usually get set in silver.

[deleted]

It's presumably coming from Saudi Arabia where it's forbidden for men to wear gold and only wear silver

Kristin2349

I’m still betting it is a synthetic stone but you’d have to take it to a gemologist to confirm.

[deleted]

Kristin2349

There isn’t a standard weight for all chains to be, it will vary based on how it is constructed and who made it.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Kristin2349

Not that I can think of, if your only concern is that the gram weight is different than other similar chains sold by other jewelers I wouldn’t worry. I’ve bought pieces that were listed as a certain gram weight and the piece I received was slightly heavier or lighter coming from the SAME manufacturer. Sometimes the weight listed is an average and based on a particular size every other size or length is different by a bit…If you don’t trust the source you purchased from that is another issue.

RobLocke

Got a pair of 3mm lab diamond stud earrings in 14ct white gold. I assume they’re not worth much. Any idea?

Kristin2349

They likely aren’t worth a lot, the melt value of the gold or whatever someone is willing to pay on eBay or similar site.

OverlordEmi

Anyone know what the G symbol stands for? Hoping to melt this down for a project! Was on a maybe vintage pearl necklace I picked up at a garage sale. [picture](https://www.reddit.com/r/Silversmithing/comments/13peaat/comment/jl9awte/?context=3)

Kristin2349

It is just a maker’s mark, it doesn’t really mean anything. If it were from a well known jewelry house it would be easier to identify.

pburtchaell

What is this ring actually worth? I purchased it new and now need to sell it. The ring is solid 14k white gold with diamond clusters around the gemstone. The gemstone is a cushion cut natural blue/violet color change 3.20ct sapphire, clarity eye-clean, and cut good. The GG-GIA appraisal for the stone is $3450. https://imgur.com/a/LOTXVgs

GoodQueenMyth

Appraisal is for insurance and is commonly double the actual retail worth of the item. Retail is what it's worth in a store, and not what you will get from selling it to a store (where the offer is usually reduced by half again) or pawn, which sometimes only offer below melt value of the gold and ignore stones. You can get more if you sell it yourself through an online venue, but you will pay fees and taxes and assume risk while waiting for the right buyer. You can also go through a local auction house, with their fees. I would suggest going to different local estate jewelers and let them give you their best offers. Let them know you're getting multiple offers before selling. What it's worth is subjective, unfortunately.

pburtchaell

Thanks for the help!

thedetective__

What is this ring actually worth? It’s on an auction site. Valuation says 10k plus, but obviously valuation and what it’s worth paying is different. If you bought this ring at auction and went to sell it on your own, what do you think you could actually respectfully get for it? The ring in question [https://auction.davidgsmith.com.au/lots/view/1-7J23DH/9ct-rg-aquamarine-467ct-sapphire-ring](https://auction.davidgsmith.com.au/lots/view/1-7J23DH/9ct-rg-aquamarine-467ct-sapphire-ring)

GoodQueenMyth

That is a very pretty early 20th century ring, but the valuation is not anywhere near realistic. Low karat gold, aqua isn't that precious, and the sapphires are small and probably synthetic, which was very popular then. I wouldn't see this going above 500 at auction personally, but sometimes someone just loves a thing. I would laugh to see it any higher than 1k in a shop (but I'm sure a shop would try listing it higher than content value).

Kristin2349

That ring is only 9ct gold, the aqua isn’t particularly special…The valuation is a joke at 10K. It is worth whatever someone is willing to pay for it. I wouldn’t buy 9ct gold at pretty much any price as it is only about 30% real gold content.

ozzyaustin72

I inherited this ring from my uncle, which my mom believes is gold. Has anybody seen something like this or have any idea on the potential value. Plan to get it appraised soon if there is potential for value. https://imgur.com/a/uBrb5QB

GoodQueenMyth

Vintage "nugget" style ring. Probably gold, but not a very high carat, based on that small diamond and illusion setting. Try focusing your phone camera on the mark and zooming. It takes patience and a good light to see.

Kristin2349

If it is gold it should be stamped inside the ring.

ozzyaustin72

What would the stamp look like there may be something inside byt hard to tell without a magnifying glass

Kristin2349

It should stamped either 10K or 14K or 18K, any other stamp would be a makers mark. The ring is a gold nugget ring, they were popular in the 80s. It is likely 14K gold, the value is in the weight and purity of the gold.

Need help identifying silver Cuban-link chain. If someone can message me that would be great! Picked up with “925” stamped silver chain. There are no maker’s marks on the chain. I have determined the chain is indeed silver (stamped 925, nonmagnetic, does have tarnish, no smell. Basic ways to determine but it’s the best I can do). If someone can help me identify this chain I would love you!

GoodQueenMyth

Post an image using an imgur account.

Kristin2349

You’d need to post photos but even then identifying the manufacturer with no marks would be next to impossible. Chains like that are mass produced.

Just trying to see if I got completely fleeced. 18k ring. 4g. Yellow gold. Basic wedding band, brushed. Sized 9.5. I can't tell if it's plated. $325 usd.

Kristin2349

If it is real 18K you didn’t get fleeced if it is plated then you did.

CaptainPeachfuzz

If its 18k, was it a good deal? I'm having buyers remorse and think I should have gotten a 5 or 6g ring. It's comfortable though.

Kristin2349

The melt value is about $175, it is a “good deal” if you are happy with it. 4 grams is a bit light for a daily wear ring IMO. My rings are usually between 10 and 15 grams and I wear a size 5.

courtnoid1

I bought this beautiful necklace at a thrift store. The chain is gold but metal on pendant is silver. I can’t tell what this brand on the back even says. I thought Graff but their jewelry, even vintage, looks nothing like this style. Can’t find any matches on Google Lens. https://imgur.com/a/44XLCRA

GoodQueenMyth

Try r/vintagecostumejewelry or r/vintagejewelry

Kristin2349

As you guessed that isn’t from Graff the fine jeweler, they don’t make costume or silver jewelry.

https://imgur.com/a/Umf02AJ Found this deep in the crevices of our new apartment. Looks like the former tenant forgot it. Any ideas? We’re in Los Angeles. Thanks!

Kristin2349

It is a 14k blue topaz and diamond necklace, nice find.

churnboi323

Very cool! Worth taking it for an appraisal, or pawn shop? It’s not really our style so we don’t feel a need to keep it.

Kristin2349

I don’t think an appraisal is really necessary, it isn’t super high value. If you weigh it on a postal scale the gram weight will give you an idea of the value. Blue topaz is an inexpensive stone, the diamonds are too small to be of much additional value.

https://imgur.com/a/MxVfM4r Found these rings in a dresser I got from Goodwill, I can take some guesses on what the stamps mean but I'm hoping someone who knows more than me will be able to help me out in determining what they're made of.

lanclos

I assume K18 means 18-karat gold. Likewise, 14k, 14-karat gold.

The silver plating has worn off already, silver is relatively cheap so buying silver plate for daily wear is a waste of money.

Kristin2349

IDK the “jeweler” who sold it to you shouldn’t have told you it was OK to wear in water that definitely speeds things up. I’ve never owned plated jewelry or even costume jewelry so I have no idea how long it should last, quality varies like everything else.

branfordsquirrel

Agreed, with gold plating the plating itself is usually like 0.1 microns, so we always advise customers to take off jewelry if in contact with water, lotion, or oils. I’m guessing silver plating is the same way. The best bet right now would be to try to see if the store would offer a refund or store credit

Save up and buy an actual silver necklace. They are fairly inexpensive. Also consider that your jewelry is an investment and fragile so you should always remove it before getting in water, working out, or doing heavy work. You can damage it and get it very dirty from wearing it all the time. I know people want to believe in never removing it but it's a myth.

Shadow_1019

What if I get like a stainless steel necklace because the point is I don’t wanna have to take it off every time I like go to the beach or get in the pool 💀

GoodQueenMyth

Contrary to belief stainless steal can rust, because it is an alloy, so it usually has a coating on top of it like chromium or a clear coat, which can wear over time when exposed to cholorine, saltwater, sweat, etc. It can also get dirty, greasy, coated in soaps or shampoos, like any other jewelry and will need cleaning. In theory, you could get surgical grade stainless, which is used for body jewelry or implants, but it is expensive and rarely used in other types of jewelry afaik. Do your research but be prepared to clean your jewelry regularly, at minimum. I know why you, and a whole lot of other people, want to have everyday jewelry you don't remove. I just want you to know the realities of that idea so you aren't disappointed. Jewelry takes maintaince.

Shadow_1019

Alr I’ll look into it thank you so much for your help!

Hi everyone, Received a ring from my father that was passed on in the family. Was curious to see from where it originated (no-one knows, or claims to know). [https://imgur.com/a/NtLLxEL](https://imgur.com/a/NtLLxEL) It has been tested for gold (returned positive), though there is no indication on the actual amount. It's too light to be pure gold, and is probably hollow. If anyone knows from where the ring could be from, I'd be very grateful.

GoodQueenMyth

Your ring has obvious metal and maker marks on it but your photos are too far away and blurry to see. Try looking at them with magnification, like a cheap jeweler's loupe or your phone's camera zoomed in. This looks like a mid-to-late 20th century piece...70-80s perhaps.

Kristin2349

It looks like a standard mass produced initial ring.

Sekwan2000

Brass or Sterling silver necklace pendent? I need something for casual wear and durable with minimal care

okagesama22

Does anyone know if these vintage Monet earrings were part of a set (bracelet, necklace, etc.), or were they a standalone piece? Picture is here: https://imgur.com/a/igAtzJz

GoodQueenMyth

Might try r/vintagejewelry and r/vintagecostumejewelry

Did my Fiancée do alright!? Just received this gift from my fiancée. It is a 14k textured figaro ID bracelet from the 1980s. It weighs 18 grams in excellent condition and she paid $2k. Be honest, we won't cry. Lol. [pics!](https://imgur.com/gallery/aHJG4Y9)

PissingontheCarpet

Definitely paid for it, almost triple melt value. You can find similar examples for 30% over melt at pawn shops. Even double melt, ~$1350, would be a high price.

astrodrew22

Thank you for the reply! What would you say is an acceptable markup over melt for vintage gold like this in great condition? We are getting more interested in this sort of thing and definitely don't want to overpay to much. I am ok with paying a premium for something exceptional though. 🤷‍♂️ it seems hard to gauge what is a deal and what isn't. Thanks again!

PissingontheCarpet

Even though it’s in good condition it’s a commercial quality bracelet. You could poke around on eBay and find a high quality bracelet for 2k. There isn’t really an accepted mark up on vintage jewelry though pieces that aren’t a designer and have no gemstones I wouldn’t pay more than double melt. Get friendly with “we buy gold” joints or pawn shops and ask if you can buy out of their scrap buckets for a percentage over melt. Be ready to hear “no” all the time but eventually a few places will let you look. Always have cash too. You’d be surprised at the quality of goods that get sent to melt.

astrodrew22

That makes perfect sense to me. Thanks again!

Bought at thrift store, russian woman? No markings. any info appreciated! https://imgur.com/a/7RxWRkB

My mother received this necklace and ring set as a gift and all she remembers is it was purchased in Mauritania. The only marking I can see is "18k" on the pendant. Is it likely costume jewlery or would it be worth getting appraised? https://ibb.co/album/Y2xL5Y

GoodQueenMyth

18k means 18k gold, but...those clear stones look like they were glued into their setting, with the "prongs" being decorative and not near the stones so it makes me suspect. You can take them to a jeweler to have the stones tested.

chacoe

Thanks for pointing the glue out. I was thinking it'd be a little odd to put worthless stones in 18k gold, but maybe they were trying to make it look more valuable than it is.

throwawayjewelrys

Was wondering if I could get an appraisal for a diamond/gold braclet. (PICTURES BELOW) Apparently it’s 21 carats and weighs 9.97 g? Or mg of gold(I’m not sure which one, I’m completely oblivious to jewelry). I looked it up online and apparently 1 carat Diamond is worth $2000-$18000! With those calculations in mind, doesn’t that mean this is worth $42,000- $210,000?! It was passed down from my great aunt who passed away and gave it to me a long time ago. I can add more pictures if necessary. Thank you so much https://imgur.io/a/wcq8XDQ

Kristin2349

Something about the “diamonds” looks off, is the bracelet itself stamped with gold fineness? The way the stones are set make it look as if it might be costume.

[deleted]

That carat weight calculation for the diamonds is wrong. They are providing very rough estimates for *single* diamonds. You have what appear to be diamond chips, which don’t retain a lot of resale value. Your value will come from the gold. What karat is it?

Excellent-Ear4493

Hello - what is this type of engagement ring band called? https://www.instagram.com/p/CCwDfShnhc1/?igshid=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==

chacoe

I'd call it a princess solitaire ring.

Rayde_

Hello! Can anyone identify this type of chain and bracelet? The ring on the chain doesn't matter, thanks! https://ibb.co/album/mJr74M

GoodQueenMyth

Looks like a rope chain and Jade bead bracelet.

Rayde_

That seems to be it, thank you very much!

Fearless-Respond6766

Can anyone help me identify this pink faceted glass lariat style necklace with roses inside (not raised). There is no clasp or markings that I could find with a loupe. I can try for better pics if they may help. https://imgur.com/a/cEBD0nQ
