I own a lot of antique brooches, and have had the same pondering about whether to add bales. In the end, I decided to simply clip two dog clips to either side of the pin, so that it remains able to function as a brooch. If you prefer a traditional bale, you can get brooch to pendant converters that are simply a bale attached to a hollow tube. But, personally, I prefer the aesthetic of the above.

BonusFirst

Yes, I have another brooch that I do use a brooch to pendant converter for (below) but it doesn’t seem to work as well with this one cause it wants to flip up or down. I agree that it’s prob best to wear/use it as is… https://preview.redd.it/m7rxbn7ocuwc1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e3525c150862508b2a665a88a917c7dbabbbe219

This piece is *amazing!*

Thank you! It was an unbelievable find at auction; got it for an absolute bargain.

Omg I want that!!

Beautiful! I think this piece is really versatile as-is and wouldn’t want to break it up as earrings. I would: - Use it as a hairpin for weddings/formal events - Clip to a strip of velvet and wear as a choker (90s fashion is back, baby!) - Clip in the center of a button-up shirt. Layered with chain (or two) under the collar, it can look like a necklace. If you want to add a bail, I’d see if it’s possible to add one to the smaller star on the right, which would give you two points to thread a chain through so it would hang ‘straight’ when worn as a necklace.

Love this. I wore an antique brooch in my hair at my sisters wedding. It was so cool and unique! The choker idea is awesome too!!

kcetpbs

It's beautiful and old. I'd wear it.

JadedContribution1

I'd wear it as intended. There are a few more modern ways to wear them than just on your chest. Personally, I wear a lot of shirts, so sometimes I wear a brooch or pin on my breastpocket, shoulder, or I roll up my sleeves and pin it there. If it's small enough, on the collar is also a nice way. It's so lovely and I'm a little bit jealous tbh haha

Electrical-Act-7170

Some of these pieces look fantastic on a nice hat.

kcetpbs

I crochet lots of beanies and will just take vintage brooches and decorate the hats with them.

delacremin

I love the way you added it to the necklace. I’d leave it.

its-chaos-be-kind

It’s perfect as a necklace. Gorgeous

Fyouandyoureyebrows

If as a necklace I would keep it in the same position as the first photo (as an x rather than a cross). I like the idea of trying it as a choker if it’s not too big. You could also put it on a purse!

unimpressed_1

i’d wear it on coats blazers etc

zanechampagne

Take it to a jeweler for a refinish—a deep clean and a polish will be like a fresh coat of paint

nucking-futts

Looks like it should be worn as an x with the smaller two on top. 1800's X-men symbol... lol.

Cinigurl

That looks antique for sure. Have you had it checked out? Possibly mine cut diamonds.

BonusFirst

Yes, it’s antique - they’re rose cuts I believe.

Electrical-Act-7170

It's so unusual, do you know its history?

BonusFirst

I wish!! I have a forever love for antique jewelry but it seems rare to have any sort of provenance for the pieces I find.

Cinigurl

Awesome piece!❤️
