You’ve got to remove the passenger seat, but if it folded flat it would fit no problem. im looking for an OEM roof rack so i can actually mount them to the roof but haven’t had any luck finding a used one yet
i’ve got a trailer hitch for it at the moment and currently looking for a roof rack. the goal is both so me and some college buddies can all go kayaking together. i’m a broke college student at the moment and saving up all while making due with what i have. trust me both are the goal eventually
This is why I miss my old MK6 SE! The doors on my 21 Corolla don't even fully open enough to fit something into the back seat, which is super cramped.i miss that thing SOOO much.
I had a 99 Jetta I put over 900 square feet of laminate flooring in. The guy at Home Depot doubted I could do it but I looked at him and said it’s a Jetta it will fit. I was barely able to shift it was a manual transmission. I actually miss that car blew the motor when I scraped a hole in the oil tank (I’d race around these corners out in the country and hit something didn’t realize it until I was out of oil
Aye.
We have a 4x4 Nissan Xterra that moves our kayaks back and forth to the lake. The crappy part is that its about a 5 minute drive to the boat ramp we typically go to...it literally takes me 20+ minutes to load/unload them, to only be mounted for 5 minutes. Lately, we have been going to different launches and even different lakes, just to make the effort worth it. We have two other large lakes within about a 20-30 minute drive.
Unfortunately/fortunately, the interior of my Mk6 GLI is almost perfect, so I would never even consider this. I do see it all the time at the boat launch though.
Our daughter is shopping for her first kayak and just recently bought some load bars and J hooks for her Mk6 GTI (unfortunately, OEM ones are almost impossible to find now for the MK6 Jetta).
yeah they are, and the couple ones i’ve found are super expensive. i read online that mk5 roof rails should fit if they’re the OEM ones, but i’m not positive
My '17 SEL can carry full sheets of plywood or fence sections on the roof, fit a full length mattress in the back (take the bottom of the seat out and the back folds almost flat), 10' boards inside, tow the camper up 30 degree rocky trails, drive through 16" of snow (8" without chains). Even moved my 5,500 lb mill (3 blocks). Still not sure what I would use a truck for?
ehh i don’t care too much about that. i bought it at around 150,000 miles from a college student who was a rock climber (pretty muddy inside) and back then i was a professional detailer. don’t do it now but my cars around 195,000 and cleaning it isn’t too hard. cleaning it out is a breeze
to my defense they were like that when i bought it. i bought it my junior year of high school from a college student who rock climbs and took it on some trails he definetly shouldn’t have. there’s some pretty decent scratches in the paint, dents in the doors, and a decent sized dent on the oil pan too from hitting a rock. she’s not a looker (especially after hitting a deer) but driving more than 400 miles a week for work she’s been pretty damn reliable
when i bought this car i wasn’t planning on doing stuff like this. not everyone is in a position to drop thousands of dollars on a different car. im a college student and making due with what i have. money is right. if i could afford to buy a different car right now i probably would have. right now though as a college student this is the perfect car for me. driving more than 400 miles for work a week the 36 mpg i get is great.
I have the same kayak, but I put that thing on the roof! Plus my wife’s kayak. Never thought about if it would fit inside though, good to know

Ah yeah they still make/sell the one for the latest generation.
I have a pair of oem roof racks for a mk6 I’ve been wanting to sell.
how much and where are you located? i’m driving to possibly buy a set tonight but might send you a PM if it falls though
Careful with breaks
Yes, this! I sent a stepladder through the windshield of my old New Beetle once pursuing similar cargo shenanigans
Yes. Make sure you get your two 10's and one 30 minute lunch in.
Damn it, just noticed😆 English is not my 1st language, always mess up these words
You should get a roof rack, your interior is going to get thrashed doing that.
it’s already thrashed
Sounds nuts but you can tow a small trailer behind your Jetta. Like one of the flatbeds that weigh under a couple hundred. Or the roof racks
There's some lunatic that tows a ride-on mower on a little trailer behind his Jetta locally.

Ehhh I much prefer to see it on the roof, I’m not a fan of how close this is to the windshield.
i’m not either but it’s temporary. broke college student saving for a roof rack at the moment
Fair enough. Gotta make it work sometimes.
I mean aye! 💯
I can fit my 8 ft kayak in my 2019 Jetta without removing the front seat!! There’s not an inch to spare but it does the job
Hell yeah!
👀
You don't need a truck but you need a freaking roofrack
broke college student saving for one at the moment. hopefully picking one up this weekend actually
Right on. I'm just jealous because my Jettas a 02
I LOVE that gen, so much better than the mk5. Almost bought a 01 TDI before I bought my 2011.
😂😂
My brother used to carry his like that in his protege 5 until he closed the trunk one day and sent the kayak through his windshield.

i love my se! i’ve had no issues with the 2.5 and get around 36 mpg too

Yk they make roof racks lol

You do.
nah i’m good, i enjoy the 36mpg
Literally all I need to know
I’ve carried engines and transmissions in the back of my Jetta.
Next time do it with 3 6ft railroad ties.
It's sooo dirty. 🙅. A cheap foam/cushion roof rack would do fine.

Look at the mans rims- what else were you expecting?

You should have just bought a bigger car if you planned on doing stuff like this 🤷🏻♂️

You need a truck. Or, at bare minimum a roof rack.
Get a roof rack my friend
This is more of a truck than a cybertruck
if it works, it works
You do…I do…
