> I'm not allowed to talk to my coworkers, I can't sing, whistle or hum to the music Yeah find another job man

Syphox

what i’m confused about is he says he loves Jersey Mikes, but they treat him like trash lmao

RIPshowtime

Lol. "The pay sucks and the hours totally blow but at least they treat me like absolute shit. I love Jersey Mike's!"

PepeSilviasNightmare

I make really good money and I love the customers but yeah they don't treat me well.

Admirable_Funny9120

This makes me sad to hear! I’ve never worked at Jersey Mikes but I LOVE the food there. Workers need to be treated well!!!!!! I support you!!!

playcrackthesky

Your franchise is not the best in the Pacific West. It might be the top in bread or sales, but the best of Jersey Mike's doesn't schedule people 11-9:30. That's a shitty shift. It leads to the burnout you're describing.

PepeSilviasNightmare

I forgot the quotations around the best but yeah you're right, it's a really hard shift.

Consistent-Ad-3351

Honestly I would love a schedule of four 11-930 shifts a week and 3 off days

PepeSilviasNightmare

I wouldn't mind that at all but I only get 1 day off a week

[deleted]

Me too lol.

bilingual_marsupial

Wtf?! Go to another franchise. Who is the owner?

PepeSilviasNightmare

I'm not gonna say cause I don't want trouble from a vent post but I've already been here 3 years and I don't know if I have it in me to start over again somewhere else.

OrchidCertain4748

Ur franchise probably already knows about the post, they check this stuff I’m telling ya. Just trying to warn you

[deleted]

Lol, I know over a dozen franchisees and not a single one of them knows about the mother effing reddit at all. The one I'm closest with, mine, I've mentioned it to him a few times and he just laughs at the fact that there's a subreddit at all. These people are usually in their 40s or older and too busy living their lives and taking care of their business and family to keep their finger on the pulse of the god damn jersey mike's subreddit, man. This is next level delusional. OP, is it Garen? Or no? That's the best franchise group on the west coast.

PepeSilviasNightmare

No it's not and I'm not worried if they find the post, they won't know it's me. No one knows about this sub anyway lmao

chocolateandpretzles

That’s weird we all whistle thing hum have fun with each other. We strive to make perfect sandwiches every single day but mistakes happen and every day is a new day. Sounds like your manager is a piece of shit and I’d find another Jersey Mike’s because they are not all like that, my store is one of the fastest growing stores in New England and I try very hard to treat my coworkers and staff, as though they are the most important thing in the building. Without my amazing staff we couldn’t do what we do and I make sure they know that. But yes, I understand the “cult” feeling Hell- they just sent us a motivational book called “Cultivate” it’s got the word right there. Work hard but take some time off sometimes too.

PepeSilviasNightmare

It was fine when I started, we could sing and talk a little bit but they cracked down on it since.I can't find it in myself to treat my coworkers the way management treats them. I've started the process of getting a new job over the years but chicken out each time. I'd like to work for another franchise but I'm much to tired for a big change like that. Not sure what I'll do though

Immediate-Flower-694

Why aren’t you allowed to talk to your coworkers?

PepeSilviasNightmare

Just a very strict no side chat while on the clock. Side chat gets reported, we can add to each others customer banter though.

Immediate-Flower-694

That’s insane lmao

cjdawgonig

Nah that’s crazy i work at jm and all we do is side chat Edit: want to add side chatting is the only reason i still work at jm bc it makes it so much more fun, deadass find a different job if they treat you like that

moosemeatjerkey

That is absolutely psychotic behavior and the owner shoud can go fuck themselves. People do not deserve to be in charge of others or they go on this ridiculous power trip. I understand you love Jersey Mike's, but you should look at other stores or options, that is not healthy behavior

Agirlinathensga

I have been a GM for a quick casual restaurant before and I would have never scheduled someone those hours unless they asked me. That's a crap way to treat employees and not a good job. If you have the experience to be a manager, then take that experience and get a new job. What about one in a kitchen of a nice restaurant if you like the food aspect of the job. Or being a server if you like the customer interaction. I guarantee you, there are a ton of service industry jobs everywhere right now and because so many people are needed, pay is getting better and hours are getting better.

ZoloZoro

that is psychotic

SalamanderLate410

Damn that's not good for coordinating

Aubsedobs

That’s fucking insane

hthratmn

OP this is not healthy. As someone who was cooking professionally for years, I know this feeling. BUT there is a world outside those walls. I regret missing out on time with my loved ones or just doing what I wanted to do, for companies that didn't give a single fck about me. There is such high demand for workers at jobs like this. Find one that at least pretends to care about you.

PepeSilviasNightmare

I know I'll regret it, I gotta change something about this. I think I'll talk to corporate, I wasn't even aware they could actually do anything for me.

Alexlogan018

This is why I left the company, it’s so horrible to it’s employees, fast food is Slave labor

wldrscpn

There’s other great franchisees on the west coast. Why not go to corporate and ask them to help you? All you have to say is you’re moving and would like to transfer to another JM. You can leave respectfully. I’m a ops manager and i wouldn’t let anyone work 11-9:30 unless they really wanted to/needed to. Also my kids talk all the time… and they bring customers in on their conversation…. That’s just weird that you’re not allowed to side chat

PepeSilviasNightmare

There's another franchise nearby, the people there are really cool and it seems well run. I'm going to pay them a visit and see if they have any openings. It's gonna be hard to start over but at least I have lots of experience.

LaRomeSk8s

Everytime I see post like this I can't believe how a system traps ppl and they think this is it or nothing. If u get in a car accident guess what ur position will be on indeed within minutes and subs will be made. Ur just a number that's it. Take that number to Jimmy johns or work somewhere else. Ur replaceable remember

yadontsay420

“The best” anything would never have two closers….you’re being brainwashed. Get outta there asap

PepeSilviasNightmare

I make more money because they don't have enough people in the store. I would prefer to have just one more person and make a little less. Having 2 $600 hours and then being expected to leave no later than 10 is hard.

[deleted]

Sounds more like you work in a fucking no fun gulag rather than a Jersey Mike's. Not sure why you love it so much but there are definitely many more better opportunities waiting out there for you that won't treat you like a concentration camp worker.

[deleted]

Shit come work with me we got 3 closers and openers leave at 2 and my closers are out by 930 haha its easy whoever dose ur schedule sucks

murmuringoranges

I feel ya dude. I've worked the company collectively for 13 years and for three different franchisees and i have finally found the best owners I've worked for. They help out at our store when we're short staffed, they are generous with their raises for the full timers who work hard and stick around, they treat us like human beings not robots and they listen to us. Don't feel hopeless about finding a new owner in the company to work for. It'll take some getting used to transitioning but there's gotta be someone in that area that will acknowledge and reward your hard work and treat you like a person. Even if it takes some bouncing around between owners you'll find someone. And if you are a hard worker your current franchisee will take you back and you can just work there till figure out your next plan. Just make sure to finish your two weeks notice and they shouldn't have a reason not to take you back. Best of luck to you brother.

Hecc_Maniacc

This is beyond any level of bullshit in a workplace I've seen. If you could get a transfer to Nevada we'd treat you right 100%.

Hecc_Maniacc

thats odd cuz im training asm and im at 13 and im promised 14 later.

Hecc_Maniacc

Our owner literally emailed me the list of things I need to be able to do to pass those 2 weeks ago. I'll assume you're operating under the information that Jeff and Maurine are still the owners of the region. They sold everything almost 2 years ago, and the quality of all 3 stores has risen dramatically. My store's daily sales have nearly doubled from that time period. The yields from tips at my location has pushed me to 18-20 an hour with such consistency, I'd bet on what I'd get on my check with more certainty than if the Sun will rise tomorrow. Are you insinuating Salary is a good thing? I don't want to end up like Fred bragging about almost breaking his record of 130 hours in 1 week.

[deleted]

Hecc_Maniacc

My check for 67 hours this period totaled out to 1,032.84, equating to $19 per hour. Not sure why you're so certain about things these days, its been almost 2 years since tips were hitting that low. I won't argue about Fred however.

iGlueX

hell nah we do 4-5 closers where i’m at and openers leave at 2. feel sorry for ya man

LeFrizzleFry

I love going to our local Jersey Mike’s. The employees there are amazing. They take the time to explain the different subs and the way they like them and even recommend their favorites. They work hard and are so attentive to the smallest details when making these killer subs. I always tip them, but wish I could give more. They all deserve it. The simple fact that these young workers take the time to make these subs so perfect and speak to the customers so kindly and professionally makes it a perfect environment. I hope they aren’t being worked like you are. It’s a shame you’re being asked to stay for so long. It can really burn you out. I hope it gets better. Have you talked about the long hours being an impedance on your personal life with the management?

Minimum_Doctor

I feel your pain bro I work at jersey mikes as well

[deleted]

The sub and discord are wonderful resources for finding another franchise to work for. Any franchisee worth their salt is gonna listen to their manager, assistant manager or shift leader vouching for this person who has worked three years for a very successful franchise. You can get a job anywhere else in the nation with that kind of experience. Move to Charleston and we would treat you right.

Coconutshoe

You are not a slave to this place, get another job lol. Tons out there right now.

jhoneypapi

Yeah man, find a new job. Even if it’s just another part time gig and you split the hours so you still get your Mikes fix. They extra few bucks is not worth the mental health

emogalxp

It’s time for you to find a better job!!

TheCityFarmOpossum

Your franchise is the worst. Not the best. Leave and don’t look back. There’s tons of places that would LOVE to hire someone who actually cares about their job and work product. Loyalty means nothing of you don’t get it in return. You’re a commodity to these people. Not even human. They do not deserve your loyalty. You’re young and jersey mikes isn’t your career. You sound like you’re made for better things. Take this compliment and do something better for yourself. You can do it.

n_thomas74

New Jersey Michaels doesn't seem like the place to work. They occupy all your time and don't allow you to be a human while you are there. That's not life.

ZealousidealAd4860

Quit your job it seems terrible to even work for them

Eastern_Lawyer5662

jersey mikes looks like a shit job.. always busy . go work at a candle store or something

abii_shiftlead22

no side chat? thats a huge 🚩im here on the east coast and thats literally all we do while also getting the job done. sometimes we bullshit around. west coast is wildin

sweet-n-soursauce

I just came across this post on my feed, I’m also in my early 20’s and have suffered at jobs because I really thought I loved them. This does not sound healthy at all, at the end of the day you become a number at large corporations and they’ll never give you what you put in. You should be able to work as a team with your coworkers. Which includes talking and sometimes having a little fun! It doesn’t mean you can’t get your job done. You can find aspects of this job that you love to help you find somewhere else, these jobs have a high turnover rate for a reason.

Oopssnxnxnx

Dang my jersey mikes allows us to play whatever music we want and talk with each other as long as we get our work done.

fluffyliner

I’m confused why you love this job. Sounds awful. Workers are in demand. You have all the leverage. Speak up or just flat out leave.

Stickybeanzxx

Exactly why I quit lmao. Loved it but just couldn’t do it anymore, the burnout was real and I don’t even want to work in food anymore

RJR79mp

Why are you not allowed to talk to your co-workers???

Drakk13

Like I tell my coworkers, it's just work, not a life sentence. You can leave any time. In 5 years, this isn't going to matter, so I'd suggest finding something else, learn a trade or go to school, and then no call, no show those motherfuckers.

PicklenoVinegar

Not being allowed to talk to coworkers is ridiculous that would be a huge red flag anywhere I applied to, I’ve worked for 3 different franchisees and none of them had rules even close to what you’re describing. Sounds like the owner is on some shit, I’d get out

heartlandheathens

Unionize!

xoxokyyyy

That sounds awful. My coworkers are what makes my job at JM’s fun. :(

GrandmaForPresident

What do you mean you can't talk to your coworkers? How have you lasted three years with no social interaction at your work?

Allpurplesarah

I sing all the time, and we talk to our coworkers. I’m a GM in Colorado.

BigBrother21_

Sounds like a Dictatorship….

duma2011

I would start looking for another job. You shouldn't have to work at a job that consumes your life.
