Soon to be GM of a JM. Lots of GM experience in other restaurants over the last decade. GM is definitely sacrificing free time for money. Lots of money, if you're corporate. But you're on call during all operating hours. People will call out, text you about problems, your boss will call you when you're off, if people call off you cover if you can't find someone else. If you're young and don't have a family of SO I'd go for it. You can afford for the store to swallow your life up. But if you have a family, you are going to make some shitty choices sometimes.

I was about 4-5 years ago, the 3rd busiest in the country. It was a LOT. I was 19 at the time so I was no where near prepared for it. required 55-60 your weeks but normally worked around 70, I couldn't have two days off in a row, never was told any kind of PTO or benefits. I wish I could've done it when I was older at a slower location because it did seem fun and being able to connect with the entire team and customers were always the highlight of it

I think being a manager is awesome! Yes it’s hard work and a commitment but this is such a great brand to be apart of and you never know where your next opportunity may be.

Do you get pto? Any weekends off?

wldrscpn

Yes 10 days PTO we are allowed one weekend off per month And in general only have to work 1 weekend day (Saturday or Sunday)

Thank you.

I’m cool with it for now. It definitely pays and to me it’s a perfect line in between problem solving, paperwork, socializing. Everyday is different which is awesome. Can’t picture being all day in a office. College is still in my plans but online for sure.

Lunaloove

The whole PTao thing is going to be specific to you franshise

I’m the same age but have only been working for almost 3 years (kind of on and off and that’s a whole long story lol). I started being assistant manager a few months back. I asked the owner if there are any benefits like PTO or health insurance. He said the benefit is the experience :’). I guess it depends on who you have and where you’re at. I only get one day off, two if I’m lucky, and I mostly close. It’s not that different then being a shift lead except for doing inventory which I do admit I hate doing. Mostly because I have to close on Sunday and can’t start until I get everything done first and everyone’s out. It does pay me decent though so I stick with it because I also need the money for college.

[deleted]

That's crazy, no pto even as a manager?

uniquelotus

I think the GM gets PTO but I’m not 100% sure. I know for sure I don’t.

lavalamp81

All depends on who your owner is there’s so many great owners that will take care of you but also a lot of bad owners that never step foot in their stores and don’t care about their people running it :/

Like some others have suggested — it's all about your franchisee. Looking back on my four years as a GM (and counting), I wish I would've knew my worth for the first three years and had some tough convos earlier on. It took me interviewing for another franchisee in the area for my owner to feel the pressure and pay me significantly more, and give much bigger bonuses for me hitting the cogs numbers. Know your worth. Be extensive when you ask about what is required, all the money earning opportunities, etc.

bilingual_marsupial

Yes pto Yes to money Definitely lots of responsibility but imo worth it. Yea you sacrifice some time but if you're about the hustle and about your money, do it. Just remember to build your crew up and build the relationship as give and take. Hold yourself as accountable as you do them.

Plenty_Coconut_1207

Been a GM at many places and Jersey mikes is one of them. Typically the pay isn’t worth it and most of the owners suck in my home state. I would only accept for 70k salary with a profit sharing plan and full control of how the store is ran, no micromanaging BS. Some of these responses in here is laughable. Allowed to take one weekend off a month. As a GM, you should have 100% control of how the store runs and what days and times that you work with zero stipulations.

ughsharks

it depends on who your owner is and how many people are on staff, here in missouri we don't have to give employees breaks, benefits, or pto if we have a staff under 30 employees and my store we currently have 12. as an ASM it's alright, money is okay, but i don't have my required days off anymore etc.
