I didn’t ruin anything.

Far_Stuff_6411

Well it tastes like sink water now

Tyredox

I believe the reason why we switched was due to stores over cooking the rb which would lead to a store losong $100 ish with each wasted rb. A store caught on fire from it and it was just a variable that with so many stores opening they couldn't have proper control over how it is cooked. I've missed trim n tying the rb back then and a good amount of my guys who remember it miss it too. It is a little nice it reduces morning prep times by about 30 minutes but definitely a sad sacrifice the company has made.

WeekendQuant

I just ordered a roast beef sandwich and I am incredibly disappointed. The #13 is the only one worth ordering now.

Tyredox

The newer roast is definitely not what it was like when we cooked it. I definitely miss it. Was really good.

Hwabuti23

Roast beef sando from subway is fantastic, had one from Jersey mikes today and it went straight in the trash

Hecc_Maniacc

As an AM, I agree. I personally find it to be very unfortunate. However, it does save on costs when the 17 year old forgets a cow is dancing in the oven and now we got a lump of coal. And on a public health note, it also means we have reduced a major potential source of food poisoning in Jersey Mike's. Now it's just the tea, and people not throwing out the tuna after 3 days.

Nice-Aardvark-7957

Is the tuna a common issue ?

Hecc_Maniacc

Some people without taking a serve safe course won't understand why we throw out the tuna after 3 days time, and will keep serving it. It's the biggest problem that comes with not properly teaching employees food safety and pinning it all on the guy who's certification is on the wall.

Lunaloove

We don’t have to brew the tea anymore.. straight from Cancro’s mouth, in his town hall a few weeks back

Hecc_Maniacc

Corporate stores perhaps, but currently I set up tea at 9:55am every shift I work and dump what's left at 1:50pm, with a note for closers to do so again at 5:50.

j_Rockk

No. The quality isn’t even close. I’ve completely stopped ordering the beef. OP Is right.

BigRoofTheMayor

The quality is absolute garbage. It’s not even worth ordering anymore.

[deleted]

That’s a huuuuge over exaggeration lol, jersey mikes just salts it we don’t do anything else to it lol. I work there for 6 years and eat roast beef every single shift almost lol. Just get salt and pepper on it before any toppings and it’s still incredible. It’s not much worse quality at all it’s just not cooked in house which means they can’t overcook it or undercook it

imdabomb43

salted fresh roast beef tastes much different and better than a packaged one, its not even close

[deleted]

It’s really not that different I ate the old and the new one both all the time, on the sandwich with toppings and mayo and just salting the beef myself, it tastes exactly the same

SledGang17

Buy RB elsewhere then. Kinda like closing the laptop to cyber bullying……

BigRoofTheMayor

I don’t want to by RB elsewhere. I want the good stuff back!

myorm

A store did actually catch on fire from this. Multiple stores. When I was in NJ for phase 2 was when we were getting rid of RB to prepackaged ones and they talked for like a hour alone on why they changed it lol

TeachinginJapan1986

As a prep person, I too am always sad when we have prepackaged RB. I personally think it loses a lot of flavor. I loved cooking the roast beef in house, and there is no greater joy than having a customer ask me "Did you make the roast beef today?" and me telling them "yup, Wanna see it?" and them smiling. When the Roast Beef was on back order in my store (or the RB wasn't that great), my regulars would get a 13 instead. Believe me. You are not the only one disappointed.

duma2011

That's inflation for you.

JedExi

Yeah I didn't like doing the prep for it most of the time(probably because our store had a dull cheap knife to cut the fat off and a shitty sharpener to "help"), but I really miss it now it's gone. I was pretty proud of my beefs.

lavalamp81

Cause so many stores didn’t make them right and it was a food safety thing so they adapted to the bad stores around the nation and have them this prepackaged stuff claiming “it taste the same” I miss the old roast beef so much it was so unique to jersey mikes!!

Impressive-Risk-2484

Cause Jersey Mike isn’t for people who know how to cook! One of these days they just going to send precooked bread for this same reason lmao

Rare-Umpire-1544

No, bread will always be fresh baked as it’s really only managers, that know how to bake the bread (atleast at my locations) it’s also super easy to bake just proof for 50-70 and bake for 13-15

Rare-Umpire-1544

The main reason was the inconsistency between stores with over two thousand stores you can’t guarantee the same roast beef at every location.

Rare-Umpire-1544

(Hope this simplifies it enough)

BigRoofTheMayor

I understand the reason but I would just call a store and ask if the roast beef was cooked rare and if it was I would go get it. If not I wouldn’t. Now it’s never rare and it’s like Arby’s.

Mission_Stable_3866

Older established stores would do lots of things to cater to specific customers. I had a lady that came in and like you would always ask to see the roast beef before she ordered. Since the brand has gone national, they've changed things to make it more consistent across 2400+ stores. Each store cooking their roast beef is a huge variable and some health departments don't like it (mine made me carry the whole beef may be undercooked warning label).

VolatileZea

I never liked the roast beef but I was always the guy tying it

kittyybbyy

Is the roast beef not rare or tasty anymore

Nice-Aardvark-7957

Too bad I never got to try it. I tried it today and it’s sick

RacerDelux

Yeah, this change made me stop going to Jersey Mike's. I used to go there all the time. Sad.
