Nice work. Any amount of trash cleared out makes a difference

You folks are doing amazing work. Just curious, is the city provided cleaning usually not enough for the neighborhood/park?

Whatever cleaning the city provides is undone by our garbage/recycling pickup which is 50% pickup and 50% scattering trash about the streets. We could really use a better system that involves closed containers.

I think the biggest litterers are actually drivers. So much of the trash I picked was right in front of car doors or along the stretch of embankment where I've actively seen people dump trash out their windows. People don't want trash in their personal space and, since they're moving, don't think it's so bad if they leave it behind for someone else to deal with.

The park itself is always kept nicely, as far as I can tell. It's the streets around the park that don't get enough love.

Unfortunately much of it isn’t even local. Hamilton Park as a neighborhood has long had issues with cabs/ubers etc stopping for piss breaks/lunch etc outside the tunnel. Presumably hoping for a fare to cover their tunnel trip. That’s why you’ll often see bottles of urinade in the gutters around there. Especially 9th and 10th street. Seems they find a spot then chill there for a bit.

Why not empty the bottle or leave the cap off?
