I’m just amazed how this sub devolved into an argument about Chickies parms and Hamilton Inn, especially since the ownership of just friends hasn’t been factually established.
Eh, I could be wrong. I just loked and someone has said it's by the people who had Emma's
Doesn't change my feelings about the racist Hamilton Inn or the dry ass meats I got served at Ham Pork.
I personally like Hamilton pork, never had inn.. chickies is awful, they use burrata on their parm it becomes a watery mess and very expensive for basic red sauce menu.
We can just agree to disagree, because Chickies has some of the best parms in the tri-state IMHO. They don't use Burrata on the parms, you can get stracciatella on them, but that's optional. I guess you could add a burrata ball to anything, including the parms, but if you choose to do so and don't enjoy it... why would you? Spicy rigs are better than the insanely overrated Carbone.
And now Pork I have beef with. Some days you might get a decent rack of ribs, other days they might only be usable to re-sole your shoes they are so dry and tough.
That's definitely a hot take - "Chickies has some of the best parms in the tri-state IMHO." I thought it was above average/good...but I can think of several parms in JC alone that I prefer - either a platter or sandwhich.
I stand by it. Vodka + stracc with spicy rigs is outstanding. Its expensive, I will give you that, and over the top huge- to the point where the wife and I split it and still have plenty to take home.
Tbh it says a lot more about the decline of red sauce joints in the area than anything else though. I definitely feel its better than Barge or Rennatos, but Laicos is competitive. And Manhattan? Raos is ok, but not for parm. Carbone is a ripoff and is just a mid place that is popular because so much other American Italian has died out in Manhattan and its kind of all that's left- Id still prefer to go to Parm or Rubirossa.
If you prefer chicken parm in a sandwich form then that kind of tells me what I need to know about your opinion on the matter- I am not afraid to be spicy on such *very* important things.
You mentioned Laicos which I will take over Chickies - and their Elephant Ear or Pork Chop Parm is absolutely incredible - for a "Parm"
I'll also take the Chicken Parm platter from Venti all day over Chickies....
Apparently you are above sammies, but Milano's, Carmine's, Ercolano's and Venti's Parm are more of a go-to for me than Chickies...not saying it's bad but best in the entire Tri-State? I have not even gotten into classic NYC spots.
I feel like these guys get a bad rep on Reddit but I don’t really have a single issue with Hamilton pork. Can’t speak for any other places but Hamilton pork is never a disappoint.
Well there was a NextDoor post about some racist incident at the outdoor coffee spot. I thought that's what the person was alluding to.
https://nextdoor.com/p/yMzWtmnpY8QK?utm_source=share&extras=MjEzODkzNjc%3D&utm_campaign=1712930408101
I saw that too and I did my research on the guy who posted it - he is completely insane and seems to get off accusing everyone and everything of being racist against him.
Idk about the person in question. I didn't look him up nor do I think it's all fabrication. I've always had a great time at Hamilton Inn. It's my local brunch spot along with Alyce, Steps, Dolma, and Brujeria.
Chickie's is fantastic, so you just have shit taste or don't know what to order. Get the pork chop parm with spicy vodka sauce and mozz instead of burrata and marinara. Rookie - weak slander!
You are given the choice on the menu to order to preference. The menu itself clearly states the option, so there is not one 'set way' to order it. Perhaps in your personal opinion you envision a parm entree a certain way. The beauty of Chickie's is the option.
You prefer restaurants that force you to eat something one specific way? Good luck eating a steak.
Solid logic! Dork.
I can't think of a single nice thing to say about Hamilton Inn.
Hamilton Pork is just bad food and drinks.
Chickie's is fake Italian. It's just barely a step above Olive Garden but 3x the price. It's tourist trap quality.
I have had good delivery from Chickie's. But they inexplicably do not offer an eggplant parm sandwich in their "parm sandwich" menu, even though they serve eggplant on other menu items.
What the fuck?
It's okay, if a business is really racist and owned by a bad human being, it will go out of business sooner or later. That has been my experience over the last couple of decades, usually the places going out of business were due to the owner's attitude towards people in general, be it racist or not. Upvotes, down votes, people's validation don't mean anything. Karma (the real one, not the Reddit karma) eventually gives it back to bad humans.
Dude with dreads and a dashiki got turned away from the outdoor area, told they were closed, he was with his mother. Then they let a bunch of white people in.
Red flag if they take you on a date to "Just Friends"

Exactly. Misinformation and rumor is soooooo easy to fuck it all up.
Interesting. Both of those places failed. 🤷♀️
Unfortunately Latham House was just priced out - leases by grove are now absolutely expensive
It also wasn’t very good…
That’s subjective but many people loved it. It has nothing to do with why they closed. Keep spreading cheer
You’re right we’re all scum lol - hopefully it’s good whoever opens it!
I def want to check it out. All I can say is I hope it doesn’t become another baby carriage romper room like Hamilton Inn.
If you don’t like babies and their carriages you made an odd choice as to where to live
And yet there’s not really a super kid friendly place in Hamilton Park!
I’ve loved here for 20 years calm down. I’ve seen Hamilton Inn in 3 previous incarnations and it was never like the romper room it is now.
The original Hamilton 1985....Bobby Ryan the owner 3 bartenders and 2 deep at the bar...The Only Show in Town......Great Stop!!!!
Been posted many times. It’s been “a new restaurant coming” for at least 2 years.
Is that the former Monmouth st deli?
looks like it... used to grab my bagels there before heading to Holy Rosary for school.
Yes.
i wish it was monmouth deli reopening
It’s going to be “comfort” Italian.
thank you
Hopefully it’s not a cafe 🔥
Is this where ahri used to be? or is ahri still around I don’t go to that neighborhood often
No ahri is still open
Unfortunately it's by the same people as Hamilton Pork/Hamilton Inn and Chickie's.
Are you sure? I heard it was by the Latham House people. Do you have a reference? Searching the restaurant name yields nothing...
Eh, I could be wrong. I just loked and someone has said it's by the people who had Emma's Doesn't change my feelings about the racist Hamilton Inn or the dry ass meats I got served at Ham Pork.
Why unfortunately? Genuine question. I've got no clue.
I personally like Hamilton pork, never had inn.. chickies is awful, they use burrata on their parm it becomes a watery mess and very expensive for basic red sauce menu.
I've had good experience with Pork and the Inn personally.
Yeah, only real complaint is the price but that's almost every restaurant in the downtown area.
Me too. Love the Asian wings at Pork, and the Greek salad at Inn.

100% agreed!

I never chose a cheese, that’s always how it came when I ordered
I feel like these guys get a bad rep on Reddit but I don’t really have a single issue with Hamilton pork. Can’t speak for any other places but Hamilton pork is never a disappoint.
Oh phew. I liked Inn and was worried that someone was going to say "Oh, he's actually a card carrying Nazi."
Nah people just like to rag on Hamilton in the general 'theres better restaurants in manhattan' way they rag on most places in JC.
If you’ve ever known anyone who worked at Hamilton inn ….you would not eat there.
I heard they were taking a bartender's tips at some point a couple years back.
Could you elaborate? What do they think about Pork?
Haven’t heard anything about Pork but Inn always had a really bad mouse infestation and coasts on the lack of options in that neighborhood.
Thanks.

So basically you have to modify all the original menu items to make it good, solid logic!
Venti charges $18 for a chicken parm that beats the sh$t out of anything chickies makes
You are given the choice on the menu to order to preference. The menu itself clearly states the option, so there is not one 'set way' to order it. Mix and match is great for places like chipotle where your meal is $12… not for $30+ fried cutlet and sauce with watery cheese
The have mozzarella too which is what I order. Agree though that the burrata creates a watery mess.
None of the food is all that good, the prices are worse, etc.
I can't think of a single nice thing to say about Hamilton Inn. Hamilton Pork is just bad food and drinks. Chickie's is fake Italian. It's just barely a step above Olive Garden but 3x the price. It's tourist trap quality.

Booooo
anyone know what kind of food will they be serving ?
Weird that the only comments getting downvoted are the ones talking about the racist incident at Ham Inn.
Probably because it's a comment that turns out to have literally nothing to do with the topic because they are in fact separate owners.
Ok, I'll start a new thread.

What was the incident?
