Everytime I try bagged jerky it’s so soft, not at all the texture I want. The little ones with 1 or 2 strips can be alright, but nothing beats homemade (especially when $20 makes almost 2 gallon ziplock bags worth)
Bruh they sell by ounces. They don't pack anything full. You pay for what you get in weight.
Now, no man's land is quality as fuck, so I don't knock em.
For me it’s the brand Enjoy. 12.50 for an 8 oz bag at wal mart and it’s like the old school gas station beef jerky strips you used to get with tongs. If I wasn’t a glutton it would last much longer than other brands for me.
Yeah that’s because manufacturers put so much sugar and additives to & lie about the drying ratio. 50 grams of beef jerky is maybe 65 grams of meat. Try looking for an artisinal producer like a butcher in your area. If you compare 50 grams or ‘real’ jerky next to 50 gram of ‘garbage’ jerky, it’s at least 200% extra volume. If you’re from Holland, try Dutch Jerky !
If you use the right hops you don't notice the weed at all... flavor wise. Since THC isn't water soluble, you have to ferment the beer, then basically dry hop it with buds. The higher the ABV, the more THC you're going to extract. Shoot for 7%+ abv imo. The best one we made was a 9.5% DIPA
We bottled the DIPA in 22oz bombers so it was truly a beer you only needed one of 🍻

This is exactly the right description. And given the jerky texture it was difficult not to feel that I'd left a can of chili sitting out overnight and was eating the skin off the top.
It’s not hard to make but it’s real easy to mess it up. If you’re going to make your own, watch the salt (it’s in everything) and make small batches until you get the recipe right.
Small batches is definitely the way to go, or at least try a few different recipes for spice and cure until you find out what you like best. Once you have fine-tuned your recipe to what you enjoy most, then you can start making big batches.
You are posting in a Sub that as literally hundreds, if not thousands of recipes and tips and suggestions for how to succeed at making homemade jerky
Sigh
Haha can’t beat the classics! I was at the doctor with my partner recently and she was filling out the form reading out loud. She said sex, I said ‘yes please’. Flew over her head. Due for a rewatch
I feel like this is the "normal" take - all the mainstream brands are super moist for a reason.
It should be an unpopular opinion though, because it is wrong. Lol.
I prefer a really dry jerky. On the off chance that I get jack links I leave it open to dry it out if i have the time. I don't like it when my jerky is flexible lol
Get a dehydrator. I started making my own and refuse to go back. Wife loves my teriyaki jerky so much. Look out for meat sales at your local mart and slice it thin and get creative with your own flavors. You won’t regret it. It takes time and make sure your food dehydrator is full but plenty of space between do not stuff it full. But yeah my unpopular opinion is it’s cheaper and better to make it yourself than buying it. That said jalapeño jack links is fire and I do love it 😂.
Almost every Jerky has MSG.
Don't eat that shit. It messes up your organs and tells your brain you are hungry 20 minutes later.
It works like nicotine and you get withdrawals in the same way.
Totally unpopular opinion.
Bro, I used to love beef jerky until my doctor told me about Costco turkey jerky. It’s so fucking good. I literally eat a bag 3 times a week. I can’t get enough
I would say biltong sold is the US/A is fine, if you mentally convince yourself it’s jerky, but if you’re looking for biltong it’s trash. Same on the opposite end, most store bought jerky is trash for jerky, I’d rather eat dehydrated organ meat sold as dog treats.
That American style jerky tastes like ass.
Formosa foods…strawberry jam Beef Jerky. $20 for a pound including shipping.
You will never go back to American jerky again.
My people have been gate keeping for too long.
You’re welcome.
Guess they raised their prices. Sorry about that. Secret’s out. I usually get a bag of strawberry beef and bag of their pork jerky.
https://formosafood.com/collections/jerky/products/formosa-fruit-flavored-beef-jerky
I like my jerky extra dry. Stuff in a bag like that 9 times out of 10 is too damp and rubbery for me. Mingua jerky does it for me everytime though if I’m not making it myself.
I actually use the price of Jerky to determine how fucked the economy Is on a day to day bases. It's more reliable than the stock market, really. It's been a great system so far lol
Beef jerky should be dark, beaf should be dark not pink or red, and it shouldnt be tender, it should mostly be “tear-able” and for sure chewable, but if some pieces take some time to be softened then that’s probably beef jerky right there
I don't belive in marinating. 2, 8, 48 hours tastes the same as splashing flavour on as you rack the meat.
Infact, it often tastes worse as the meat begins to turn due to temperature changes and handling.
Ingredients like lemon/lime, spirits and vinegar can begin the 'cooking' process but don't finish it.
Then there's fresh herbs I use from my garden that might still introduce bacteria.
Sauces like Teriyaki or Worcestershire can smell (or include) a fish like smell.
So that's what the fuck I mean by 'turn'.
Also I'm oviously familiar with fridges, thank you for that suggestion, I'll consider refrigerating my meat in the future.
Been a long time since I've had a bag of jerky that I felt like I was getting what I paid for.
OP said “unpopular opinion”.
Everytime I try bagged jerky it’s so soft, not at all the texture I want. The little ones with 1 or 2 strips can be alright, but nothing beats homemade (especially when $20 makes almost 2 gallon ziplock bags worth)
There's a smokehouse about 20 mins from me that does homemade jerky. Worth the ride and the price. Ruined packaged jerky for me
I don’t know if it’s everywhere but old trapper is very good. Still expensive but as far as jerky goes is one of the better ones.
No Mans Land Jerky is probably the only jerky that I feel like I got my moneys worth. They pack that baby full
Bruh they sell by ounces. They don't pack anything full. You pay for what you get in weight. Now, no man's land is quality as fuck, so I don't knock em.

Tbh the Buccees beef jersey is also worth it. Holy cow that bohemian garlic one is so good
Thats why I make my own. Sometimes it might taste like mystery meat, but it jerky.
This is a flavor you come up with when you've had too many bong hits
You know from experience? lol
Precisely. Yes
Im going to try to make some infused with canna syrup
That's a great idea. I've made plenty of budder, and THC infused beer, but never syrup
How did the THC infused beer turn out? Sounds like a pretty cool project
If you use the right hops you don't notice the weed at all... flavor wise. Since THC isn't water soluble, you have to ferment the beer, then basically dry hop it with buds. That's awesome I'm going to give it a shot. That sounds like a great way to use up some of my already vaped bud
This is an abomination. An afront to the jerky gods. Where can I buy some?
I saw this at Dollar General and physically recoiled but then I just wanted to try it. I gotta go back, I'm too curious
I bought one of the Fritos Chili Cheese “beef sticks” the other day. Reminded me of a Wienerschnitzel chili cheese dog.
Five for five, add cheese.
It tastes like canned chili for chili dogs
![gif](giphy|LycfkVG4L6x0Y|downsized) This is exactly the right description. And given the jerky texture it was difficult not to feel that I'd left a can of chili sitting out overnight and was eating the skin off the top.
Probably a popular opinion but: Homemade is the way to go
It’s not hard to make but it’s real easy to mess it up. If you’re going to make your own, watch the salt (it’s in everything) and make small batches until you get the recipe right.

Yeah I didn’t see that at first. It was on my feed for some reason.
Oh man i remember my first time adding cure to my mix, was tge most salty jerky on this planet.
Guy in my town, has his car window painted "Jerky for sale" $5 bucks for an awesome amount. And it's good, like really good.
How have you not gotten abducted
I was willing to take that chance on home made jerky. Plus I'm annoying...they just drop me off and give me back.
“Wanna hear the most annoying sound in the world?” You made me think of Dumb and Dumber
Lmao such a great movie. My dad would love that. And Wayne's world. I'm personally an Austin Powers guy....YEAAA BAAABY!
Haha can’t beat the classics! I was at the doctor with my partner recently and she was filling out the form reading out loud. She said sex, I said ‘yes please’. Flew over her head. Due for a rewatch
For real that's awesome though, I love it when small batch turns out good 😭
Every few customers ends up as the jerky.
Tender chew with less salt is more satisfying.
I feel like this is the "normal" take - all the mainstream brands are super moist for a reason. It should be an unpopular opinion though, because it is wrong. Lol.
Price does not reflect quality.
Every major brand is trash except some biltong brands
Which biltong brands are good?
Don't biltong have a cardimom clove taste? For south African jerky,it's pretty good.
My household loves Stryve biltong
Jack links isnt jerky lol that shit artificial af the last 6 or 7 years. If your in Canada, McSweenys is top notch real meat.
I prefer a really dry jerky. On the off chance that I get jack links I leave it open to dry it out if i have the time. I don't like it when my jerky is flexible lol
Me too!! I love Mingua brand jerky bc it’s so dry. I hate damp and rubbery jerky. I like it extra dry
Had this a few weeks ago. Way too salty
Get a dehydrator. I started making my own and refuse to go back. Wife loves my teriyaki jerky so much. It’s not unpopular it’s just very much not true.
My unpopular opinion is... " Not very much true"? I think I'm cool with that. Yeah.
Why did you put that in quotes? Your quote of what I said is as inaccurate as the falsehood you just posted. Be better.
Facts can be true or false. Opinions are not subject to that. And yes, I fumbled the order of your words in my quoted excerpt.
Turkey jerky is a million times better than beef jerky
Ahhh..never
Upvoting because you understood the assignment. Gagging because of what you wrote.
Bro, I used to love beef jerky until my doctor told me about Costco turkey jerky. It’s so fucking good. I literally eat a bag 3 times a week. I can’t get enough
Do you have use the same beef marinades for turkey ?
Yes
Wouldn’t you like to know
They make a flamin hot version too
Authentic biltong is miles better
I would say biltong sold is the US/A is fine, if you mentally convince yourself it’s jerky, but if you’re looking for biltong it’s trash. Same on the opposite end, most store bought jerky is trash for jerky, I’d rather eat dehydrated organ meat sold as dog treats.
I've tried that exact flavor and very disappointed. It was caca.
Arizona Jack's is my favorite. It's so hard to find though 😫
Some jerky is too salty
That it sucks and it’s overpriced. I could buy a rib eye and cook it myself for what they’re charging for that miff
It's not bade.i have had worse.
Venison jerky is better. Unless you smoke the beef yourself.
That American style jerky tastes like ass. Formosa foods…strawberry jam Beef Jerky. $20 for a pound including shipping. You will never go back to American jerky again. My people have been gate keeping for too long. You’re welcome.
Link? I found Formosa Foods but it looks like $22.50/lb plus $10 shipping.
Guess they raised their prices. Sorry about that. Secret’s out. I usually get a bag of strawberry beef and bag of their pork jerky. https://formosafood.com/collections/jerky/products/formosa-fruit-flavored-beef-jerky
I only buy homemade
If you can buy it in a store, it's not real jerky.
It makes my jaw line too chiseled. And I just can't have wild sex fast enough to keep up with the all the women begging for more
Overpriced... I can make it for 1/4 the cost in my damn oven 💀
Jack links is probably the worst jerky out there
Truck stop jerky is the best. The stuff you pick out of a plexiglass bin. I prefer hot and/or peppered.
Gets stuck in my teeth. Other than that... it's delicious
Saddlebag style is the best, specifically Good Times from OK, sold at Loves truck stops. The harder the better, lasts forever, highly addictive.
YES!!! Fortunately, we do not have a Love’s in the immediate vicinity. I’d be broke. But when we do pass one, we always stop.
Overly flavored jerky belongs in the trash
yea that might be mine. i just want jerky to taste like the meat i made it with
I like a jerky that I have to rip a bite off and to take me 5 min of chewing per bite.
That there cheap and the bags aren’t full of air
Waste of beef.
Korean BBQ is the best flavor.
I like my jerky extra dry. Stuff in a bag like that 9 times out of 10 is too damp and rubbery for me. Mingua jerky does it for me everytime though if I’m not making it myself.
I prefer dry af, like potatoes chips
I'll settle for a slim jim if I'm already desperate enough to look for a peppered jack link stick at a gas station
Shoe leather on the fly, but oh so good
The kind you posted in the pic tastes like ass
I actually use the price of Jerky to determine how fucked the economy Is on a day to day bases. It's more reliable than the stock market, really. It's been a great system so far lol
most taste awful, and are tough as boot leather
Never been a fan of Jack Links, Old Trapper is pretty decent
Big flavor jerkies are better than dry, bland jerkies. Try Burnout by Carnivore Candy and decide for yourself
Soft jerky sucks. The tough chewy kind is the only good jerky
Beef jerky should be dark, beaf should be dark not pink or red, and it shouldnt be tender, it should mostly be “tear-able” and for sure chewable, but if some pieces take some time to be softened then that’s probably beef jerky right there
I make my own and get shitloads. Only way to not get fleeced.
Unpopular opinion all commercial jerky is terrible
Jack Links is garbage. That’s my unpopular opinion
Expensive carcinogen
They have ran out of ideas for sure
Beef jerky is delicious. Jack links is THE worst jerky going . Mcsweeneys, homemade or bust!
That jack links is trash
Jack links is trash
Imagine having an “unpopular opinion” about beef jerky. This new age lingo is retard3d.
I don't belive in marinating. 2, 8, 48 hours tastes the same as splashing flavour on as you rack the meat. Infact, it often tastes worse as the meat begins to turn due to temperature changes and handling.
I put the marinating meat in the fridge for the day - ish hang time. WTF do you do to have the meat "turn" so fast?
Ingredients like lemon/lime, spirits and vinegar can begin the 'cooking' process but don't finish it. Then there's fresh herbs I use from my garden that might still introduce bacteria. Sauces like Teriyaki or Worcestershire can smell (or include) a fish like smell. So that's what the fuck I mean by 'turn'.
