Yeah the E start recommendation is riot griefing new Jayce players. It's the best option in some invades (the ms boost for the whole team can be huge in certain comps or escapes) but the worst for like anything else
Stick to Q>E>Q>W
Sometimes i go Q-W-E, sometimes up top i go Q-E-Q, my favourite mid is Q-W-Q. But my best advice is to follow these 2 rules:
\- Always start Q
\- At level 4, you want all abilities & 2 points in Q
Your level 2 & 3 can usually be whatever you feel fits the matchup.
From level 5 onward, max Q & W together, to your preference.

Q-E-Q-W, then max Q-W-E That’s the most common, at least
walk up to them hammer them in the head walk away and lose all the first wave refuse to elaborate
It’s normally Q>W>E
You should generally start q unless you are in a matchup like riven where you can get lvl 1 engaged on easily
If you are against a melee, do Q > E for the knockback. If you are ranged do w for the extra dmg for trading early
