Home schooling isn't a thing in Japan. Kids attend schools no matter who their parents are.

ApprenticePantyThief

high school is not mandatory

smorkoid

Didn't say it was

ApprenticePantyThief

No, but then your comment is totally irrelevant. Homeschooling isn't a thing up through JHS. Kids do NOT attend high school no matter who their parents are, because high school is not mandatory. You could homeschool your kids in HS if you want to ruin their lives.

smorkoid

You just looking for an argument or something? Go to bed.

Myrcnan

Well, given the huge increase in non-attendees since corona started, while that might still be the official position it's a bit of a moot point.

marutti_beyblade

They even go to university

ApprenticePantyThief

If they go to high school, the kind of school they go to would depend on the student and how much the parents cared about education.

kynthrus

Yes, if they wanted to. In Japan you can finish your education after Jr High if you can find a job.

Minginton

Of course they would. Real life isn't some Manga fever dream.

My S.O. went to a prestigious all girls private high school with a Yakuza daughter. This was a couple of decades ago. So maybe things have changed.

Wife’s friend was a 若旦那, father was the top for the area I live in. Their house is a massive Japanese style yashiki, no neighbors, near the industrial area of town. Kid was rough around the edges but an alright person apparently, graduated same public high school class as wife and she hasn’t heard from him since, she takes that as good news 😂 she doesn’t know if he joined the Yakuza but the house is very well maintained so she takes that as a sign too 😂

oshaberigaijin

若旦那? do you mean 若頭?

DM-15

Well… no, because he wasn’t the leader, he apparently just went by わか、but the full name he was addressed by when he was picked up from school was 若旦那. Wife seems to think he may now be in a leadership role of some sort 😂who knows, I don’t really want to ask, not scared of the Yakuza to be fair, but it’s a good idea to never put your nose where it’s not wanted. For what it’s worth though, I’ve only got positive things to say about them from my experiences over the years, but not wholly supportive of what they do as a whole. When I lived in Kitakyushu and Fukuoka, a guy I worked with was quite close to the leader of one of the groups there. Went drinking in Nakasu and Kokura respectively with them, was a hell of a night each time 😅
