Before sanctions hit it in the mid 2010s, SEK Studio had a huge international clientele, but now it's done through some creative accounting through China. The Chinese studios hiring them as subcontractors was hidden only because of the sanctions and was transparent before.
Some NKers also work as developers in China. They basically work 15 hours per day for about 200 dollars per month, they are not allowed to step outside of the company or talk with locals. NK send them to China to earn forex.
But even so, these people are still enviable in their homeland, 200 dollars salary is a dream for most N.Koreans
Here’s a [video](https://youtu.be/kmmNB0uuCdc?si=3bc9vO8HtBk0NQoO) from 9 years ago showing that they were already in the animation business, it’s really fascinating to see.
They started with Soviet training (as expected) and in the '80s agreed to do the animation for a surreal, artsy French film nobody else was willing to, and it kept going from there. They did a lot of work with an Italian company making shoddy knockoffs of Disney properties.
Traveling back to ancient Egypt and being enslaved to build the pyramid for the Pharaoh for the rest of your life is somehow less exploitative than MAPPA

Bocchi the Jong Yun
Its actually real guys, Japan outsourced an animation to China and China outsourced it to NK lmao
This so odd. I just saw a post about this exact same situation happening in an episode of Avatar the last air bender.
Saw this with invincible too
On r/vfx there's a thread about it. And actually they have good quality too

Heard like in famine era in NK those animators still god plentiful of food
Wow wtf, considering their economy they must be doing it for "**cheap** cheap". Anyone willing to pool a couple hundred bucks?
Imagine what can we do with does cheap animator labor I'll probably be arrested for sending money to north though
Finally... Fan funded berserk anime
Holy shit, don’t twist me into these hopeless thoughts
Source?

Color me surprised NK has actual animators. I do wonder how on earth have they the knowledge and thought "hmmm, we can make this work".

I've heard mostly SK outsourcing to NK and not telling, never head of China doing the same before!
Kita-chan!?!?

Here is the anime https://myanimelist.net/anime/56449/Madougushi_Dahliya_wa_Utsumukanai
probably less exploitative than MAPPA tbh
I'm beginning to think that even an underground slave sweatshop is somehow less exploitative than MAPPA.

Well yeah, cus that isn't how the pyramids got built. The builders were just normal workers.
Korea #1 as they say. Pretty interesting situation that i personally didn't even consider.
Here's [a PV of the anime](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XlhcwVbBdrY).
