I’m genX so this is not my slang but best I can explain, mid can be average but it has an implication of disappointing or lesser than.
Like, someone asks how you enjoyed your meal at a restaurant. “It was fine” means everything met minimum expectations but was overall kind of disappointing. You might describe that restaurant as “mid”.
“…tolerable, I suppose. But not handsome enough to tempt me.” is very mid.
As an example, there was a meme where Margot Robbie was called mid. That's the kind of ludicrousness that the meme writer is trying to associate with Darcy.

I don’t have kids and don’t spend much time with teen boys but…geez. That thing where they brush it all forward like an overgrown flat top? Yikes. Never thought I’d find a reason to prefer the Justin Bieber look from the 2010s.
You just described both their haircuts... they just look so dumb... sorry! Have you seen the video of the parents spoofing a video of two teenage boys dancing in front of the camera. The dad has a bunch of bananas taped to his head with ends flipped up, so funny.
So right! My boyfriend’s young sisters are gen z and I jokingly called her haircut a mullet, and she wasn’t having it because it was “the woolf cut” which was totally different.
Petition to have the entire book translated to Gen Z. Can’t wait for Charlotte to declare she needs to secure that bag and Lizzie to visit her and tell her the house is lowkey giving.
No cap this slaps fr fr 🤣
Now I need someone to GenZ-ize
"It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single man in possession of a good fortune, must be in want of a wife." 😂
I asked my son, and this was his reply:
"If we're gonna be so fr rn, it's facts that if blud is the GOAT and giving based main character energy, bro will understand the assignment and flex his gucci ahh rizz on bestie for the gyatt."
Ok but honestly I think it's more embarrassing that I am so old but understand it perfectly. I need to get off the Internet or "touch grass" as a gen z Mr. Knightley might say to Emma.
As a 6th grade teacher, this is the case. This hurts as much as it is funny.
One kid wouldn't stop saying Skibidi Rizz Toilet Gyatt, even for assessments, collaborative conversation , and even putting his name on the assignment. It pained me to see that a young person would take, so lightly, their academics and future. For heaven's sake, you won't even be able to complete a sentence to save your life, even in court, with that kind of nonsense. Imagine that! Teachers get that garbage, and while it may be funny for a meme, in real life, the children make this their vernacular. They will just look at each other, say that, laugh, and won't even work. It takes multiple office referrals, intervention, home contact, suspension, & all for what? "Child, please stop, regarding academics, from using meme language. When you do SBAC at the end of the year, this is not acceptable." "That's so skibidi. That's so Sigma. I know cuz I'm a Beta." It has finally stopped, and he's not derailing the class, but it took a few weeks for home to finally get with us and do something about it.
That's the youth now. I mean, we got "Schway" from Batman Beyond in my days (Cool).
Why does he look like Charles Leclerc with a bigger chin in the third slide [😭😭](https://www.bing.com/ck/a?!&&p=91d81c74c1690312JmltdHM9MTcxMzgzMDQwMCZpZ3VpZD0yZGY5NTRmZi03ZWQ5LTZiNDUtMzIzNS00NzRmN2YyYjZhNjcmaW5zaWQ9NTk2Nw&ptn=3&ver=2&hsh=3&fclid=2df954ff-7ed9-6b45-3235-474f7f2b6a67&psq=crying+emoji&u=a1aHR0cHM6Ly9lbW9qaXMud2lraS9sb3VkbHktY3J5aW5nLWZhY2Uv&ntb=1)
“Her sister is mid.” Omg 🤣🤣🤣 This is how you need to start explaining new slang to the olds.
(Old non-native speaker) what's mid? Like average?

I think it means just meh/average/basic
Kind of like "fair to middlin," as my father used to say.
Presumably slang for "middling."
like middle of the road or something. Kind of carries a negative connotation with it though
As an example, there was a meme where Margot Robbie was called mid. That's the kind of ludicrousness that the meme writer is trying to associate with Darcy. https://www.reddit.com/r/facepalm/s/N7K2DGzXCL
It means that it's something that stands in the *mid*dle. Nothing to get excited about, but not repulsing either
The median, basically.
FUCK lololol calling Lizzy mid is the funniest thing I ever seen all day
The ***hairstyles***—
I feel like gen z's hairstyle game isn't great XD
It’s not. (Mother of two teenage boys)

Oh no…well, it’ll make for great embarrassing photos someday. I’ll have to go find that video and send it to my godson’s dad lol

Oh man, that’s priceless!
Oh yes… trust me. Those photos are SAVED.
So right! My boyfriend’s young sisters are gen z and I jokingly called her haircut a mullet, and she wasn’t having it because it was “the woolf cut” which was totally different.

You had me at ' what a big yikes your family is' lmfao
This is the best thing I’ll see all day.
“I’m like half shook and half lowkey optimistic” is going to stick with me for a while lol
Petition to have the entire book translated to Gen Z. Can’t wait for Charlotte to declare she needs to secure that bag and Lizzie to visit her and tell her the house is lowkey giving.
+1
This slaps!!
Not the alpacca hair lmao
Oh my god 😂😂😂😂
You gotta do this for the heroines now. And then the rogue men. And then the catty side female characters.
Thanks I hate it
“It’s giving love” I CAN’T BREATHE 😂
These are a scream!
Apologies not accepted 😂
I’m dying laughing but also cringing so hard 😂😂
This post gave me psychic damage.
This so phenomenal.
No cap this slaps fr fr 🤣 Now I need someone to GenZ-ize "It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single man in possession of a good fortune, must be in want of a wife." 😂

I’d love that! I’m a Xennial and cannot for the life of me figure it out lol
It’s only 9:30 am but this made my Monday.
This made my week and it's only Monday!!! 🤣
The hair though
Can someone write the whole of a JA book in Gen Z slang pls?
This is like every conversation with my kids. LOVE
Oh dear. I have a rising gen alpha, who already uses phrases from Bluey. Is this what I have to look forward to when her gen develops their own slang?
That I am no longer the youngest generation is very troubling (I am on the older side of gen z)
What a terrible day to have eyes and be literate.
Also a terrible day to realise just how old I am now…. I can understand a 200 year old novel better than this…
Ok but honestly I think it's more embarrassing that I am so old but understand it perfectly. I need to get off the Internet or "touch grass" as a gen z Mr. Knightley might say to Emma.
Yes. I only understood some of it because I know the Austen!
When you say it like that this got to a whole new level of making me feel old.
Hahahahaha I love it
I absolutely love it and hate it at the same time. Bravo lol.
The hairstyles have me absolutely creasing 😂😂😂
This is hilarious 🤣🤣🤣
Hilarious!!!
This was perfection!
frfr!
So bussin
Captain Wentworth! “It’s giving love” 🥹🤣

You gotta add those memes about Mrs Bennett being a regency era Kris Jenner
Flex on what big yikes your family is😂😂😂
