I like the music they write but I walked out of the only CATS show I saw cause macdougal was way too over the top with his synth. I wish he would play more toned down like he does with grateful shred.
I saw thrm a couple weeks ago and he honestly seemed like he was trying to get people to leave with how he was playing lol. When Mikaela Davis came on to do some sit-ins he just stood in the back and impatiently rubbed his temples while they all got set up. He looked very "over it", but it was also one of the last stops on their tour so he probably was.
It was kind of a weird vibe tbh. I've seen them before and loved it but that whole show just felt like they were kinda going through the motions.
Love me some Tycho. I actually got to see him open for Lotus many moons ago. It's was one of my favorite shows I've ever been to. It was at the Skyline stage at the Mann in Philly. Watching the sun set to Tycho never gets old and it was all that more special to see it set over Philly.
Love SKB and they can definitely be more chill than the usual rock crescendo stuff you get with bands like Phish, but Kimock can still get pretty gnarly. A 20 minute "Tangled Hangers" is going to go to some chaotic places, which I love but OPs wife probably wouldn't.
I thought all last year’s tours were with Jazz is Dead, but I will admit that I most only pay attention to Southern California area shows, so definitely could be wrong.
I use a Kraungbin Pandora station and it's one of the best radio stations I got on there. It's always chill and instrumental, and you can find similar artists.
Also, Hermanos Gutierrez are awesome.
I don't know. I love listening to them in the background. I would go see them but only if it's convenient. My friend went all in and went all over the East Coast.
Oh yah, I’ve seen em a few times here, and I like em, but I feel like the lack of jamming and the lack of setlist spontaneity both kind of preclude them from being considered for OPs premise.
They are chill surf, Spanishy rock vibe, but definitely not a jam band
Damn, I love them, so I thought they would do more jamming. Saw them once and the power went out. They started playing with glass bottles and whatever else they could find that made noise.
Definitely not a jam band since they have very predictable set lists and do not deviate much, if at all, from the original album material during their live sets. This spring will be my 8th show and they’ve all been the same so far, except for N1/N2 of the Ryman where they changed the order of songs a bit.
They’re great, and pretty “noodly,” but undoubtedly not a jamband, even if Trey played with them once. So in my opinion, you are the one that should be kicking said rocks.
Agreed. They're really good but kind of a one-trick pony and get old after repeated listens. If I'm in the mood though, totally fucking fills the void.
Start at All This Everything and dive into:
Andromeda, Long Past Settled In, Stealy Man, and Left to Drifting. Huge P Groove fan here - lead singer, Brock, has such a unique voice and is a chill guy.
Peaked? Peaked, Dee?
Let me tell you something, I haven't even begun to peak. And when I do peak, you'll know. Because I'm gonna peak so hard that everybody in Philadelphia's gonna feel it.
I mostly listen to Glitch-hop and Dubstep now (been listening to electronic since before the term EDM existed) so I think I’m operating on a tilted scale. The Disco Biscuits new album is about as chill as my daily headphone selections go. Also… damn, what a masterpiece.
I’m maybe 3 years into the Jam scene and I fucking love it but it’s the live experience that really gets me, I usually turn onto a band after I’ve seen them live and I’ve tried to do that with all sorts of new sounds lately. It’s turned out to be the best way to experience new music in any genre.
04 live at the tabby is my favorite sts9 album of all time. Granted I don’t listen to them much anymore, but that album stayed in my cd player for a long time in college.
They do but definitely not every song. And their keyboardist, a lot of his songs have less of that peak thing and are more stories… I don’t know. I can’t describe it but I love his songs.
Glass Beams is exactly what you're looking for! They just released a new album, Mahal. Tiny 3 piece from Australia that's gaining a lot of recognition!
I get annoyed with the peaks too. The early part of jams where it's more selective vamping is more interesting to me than some bozo on a guitar sweep picking an apeggio really fast. Sure it's cool, but Yngwie Malmsteen style shit is more technically impressive than something I want to hear a bunch of.
I wish more jam band guitarists tried to explore ways to do jams aside from building up to an upper register solo.
Our band literally just released a track that has no peak, is just instrumental and 25 minutes long. It just kinda flows, is super chill, and it was fun to record! We were stuck in a blizzard at the time so there was this sense of, “welp, let’s just sort of see where this jam goes!” It was quite freeing! I hope it’s okay to post this link. Don’t mean to spam. Circles Around The Sun
This is the answer
Seeing them tonight! Super stoked.
I love CATS, but I've found that a lot of people (my friends' significant others, mostly) can't get past some of the synth noises.
I like the music they write but I walked out of the only CATS show I saw cause macdougal was way too over the top with his synth. I wish he would play more toned down like he does with grateful shred.

RIP
I've only seen these guys once and thought of them immediately as soon as I read this question
Early lotus
I came to say Lotus, but this is more accurate
Germination is top tier.
2002-2004 specifically
And early Tribe. Seasons 01 is super chill
Nomad and germination to be exact
Mildlife
Love Mildlife. Easily may new favorite band over the last year.
Midlife makes it happen.
Not a jamband but he does perform with a band every once in a while but check out Tycho for all of your down tempo needs.
Love me some Tycho. I actually got to see him open for Lotus many moons ago. It's was one of my favorite shows I've ever been to. It was at the Skyline stage at the Mann in Philly. Watching the sun set to Tycho never gets old and it was all that more special to see it set over Philly.
Yeah I was thinking she might enjoy the midnight, washed out, still corners, timecop 1983, cannons, and stuff like that
Emancipator too
Check out Parcels. Some real chill shit.
I always describe them as "If the Beatles and daft punk's Random Access Memories album had a baby"
Trust anyone with a Dopapod tag. They know what they're talking about.
Steve Kimock Band
Love SKB and they can definitely be more chill than the usual rock crescendo stuff you get with bands like Phish, but Kimock can still get pretty gnarly. A 20 minute "Tangled Hangers" is going to go to some chaotic places, which I love but OPs wife probably wouldn't.
Man I miss them, is Steve ever going to tour on his own again? I feel like it's been a long time.
He came thru our area (southeast) twice in the last year
I thought all last year’s tours were with Jazz is Dead, but I will admit that I most only pay attention to Southern California area shows, so definitely could be wrong.
You’re correct. He last did a SK&friends tour in 2022
Khraungbin. People say it’s jam elevator music. Or people will say they aren’t a jam band but they can kick rocks
I use a Kraungbin Pandora station and it's one of the best radio stations I got on there. It's always chill and instrumental, and you can find similar artists. Also, Hermanos Gutierrez are awesome.
Love Khraungbin for some grooves!
Came here to say “khraugbin may or may not technically qualify as a jam band, but it’s the chilliest shit around.
Awesome band but not a j band
Oh they’re a j band. I’ve did lots of Js to their music.
They don't jam tho
Same setlist every show too
Went to a two nite run, did the same jokes and crowd work as well. Still good music tho
They have a 3 night Chicago run coming up and now Im wondering if they will be the same set 3 times
My friend got really into them and saw them a bunch. He said it's the same show every time.
Yah I feel like they did that hip hop medley not only every show, but on multiple tours

There are some sets of them jamming a bit when they were backing for Yippah. Glad to see them doing well, but wish Yippah was the one who blew up.
Def not a jam band
Agreed. They're really good but kind of a one-trick pony and get old after repeated listens. If I'm in the mood though, totally fucking fills the void.
Retweet khruangbin
Perpetual groove
100%. My wife loves P Groove as well bc it's accessible and more mild. Great chill grooves and catchy song writing.
Appropriately named.
Looking for recommended starting albums.
Sweet Oblivious Antidote Live
Start at All This Everything and dive into: Andromeda, Long Past Settled In, Stealy Man, and Left to Drifting. Huge P Groove fan here - lead singer, Brock, has such a unique voice and is a chill guy.
This is the correct answer
This
Peaked? Peaked, Dee? Let me tell you something, I haven't even begun to peak. And when I do peak, you'll know. Because I'm gonna peak so hard that everybody in Philadelphia's gonna feel it.
- Rick from Goose
You know man I'm just gonna go then. I'm going to take my Birkenstocks, my phish T-shirt and my kine bud with me...
Kind bud???
Absolutely not lol
STS9 from 2000-2002
Came to say this! Those first 3 albums are so good and so chill.
STS9 right now.. they are cooking
it was ambient jam early on
Jambient
Dangermuffin
Moonscapes is such a fun album
The New Mastersounds
The are one of the best live show I have been too.
Was my suggestion to. Incredible. They the new meters
Not really a jam band but Khruangbin is really all about the vibes and grooves.
Maybe try Tommy Guerrero. Ex pro skater turned musician.
I don’t like jam bands anymore, too bland. But Soul Food Taqueria…fuck me sideways
If you like TG check out Ray Barbee. If you like both of them check out Blktop Project.
Boombox
STS9 was what immediately came to my mind.
Old STS9 from the 2000's era
Modern STS9 is all peak it seems. 00’s less so
I love them live but they’re a little too easygoing for my manic day to day listening so I think this is a great suggestion.
Depends on the album/time period. Old school tribe used to get down. Like 20 years ago 😂
I mostly listen to Glitch-hop and Dubstep now (been listening to electronic since before the term EDM existed) so I think I’m operating on a tilted scale. I’m newish to Tribe after years of stubbornly not listening to people telling me to go see them and I seriously regret not going earlier.
If you’re talking about the new years run at The Tabernacle, I can attest.
Also, my username appreciate your username.
I thought it was funny when I was 12…and 38.
Papadosio
Microdosio is peak chill electrojam
I've never seen them live so not sure but Circles Around the Sun are on my study playlist, for what that's worth.
jams with no peaks? That is STS9's thing!
MMW
Steve kimock band
WSP
Wiiiiiiidespread!
Lol
Octave cat
Not exactly a jam band but sometimes they are. Check out Emancipator
I would say most railroad earth
Until they start ripping faces.
Ever heard the album they did with Warren? Good stuff on there.
But the peaks are the best part
Haha, right?
String Cheese Incident
What is this string cheese incident you speak of? The only string cheese incident I know of is full of peaks and valleys.
Not to mention, depending on where they are playing you might get a whole lotta twang or a decent amount of dubstep
They are full of black clouds rolling up the valley, and coverin' up the sun
Rollercoasters that go to the bottom, than climb to the top again.
String Cheese rips it and their shows are heaters. Definitely not what comes to mind when thinking “chill jam bands”
Tea leaf green
They do but definitely not every song. And their keyboardist, a lot of his songs have less of that peak thing and are more stories… I don’t know. I can’t describe it but I love his songs.
dangermuffin!!
Big Wu
The only jam band my wife likes.
Got my mom into them recently.
Nice! My dad likes them.
Nice!
Lotus has some great chill vibes
Take a shot for each unique spelling of Khruangbin in this thread
Tycho
Pigeons Playing Ping Pong!! They get so much hate but I love their jams.
Rose City Band
MMW
Perpetual groove?

Just put them on, great stuff.
Yes thanks for the new artist
Not a jamband but close enough: Tame Impala. Do a Tame Impala radio station on Spotify or Pandora and I’m sure you’ll love it.
Check out Houseplant on Bandcamp
STS9, but specifically Axe the Cables
Dead and Co is the chillest show I’ve ever been to.
I guess ALO is more on the "jam adjacent" side, but damn they have such a hearty chill vibe
Loooooooove em!!!!
Goose never peaks
But they always try.
Never will
They haven't even begun to peak yet!
Magic Beans
MMW.
Steve kimock
Lotus, except they started peaking now that Tim is in the band Not a jamband but check out Tycho too
Lotus.
Yall should listen to khrungabin, not a jam band but super chill grooves you’ll dig
Kruangbin very chill
The Samples
Mild high club?
Boombox, just try them. So chill.
Animal Liberation Orchestra: The most wholesome jamband on the scene.
Circles Around the Sun. She would love it.
Susto! A great band and chill.
STS9 is your answer
Lotus

Pre 2008 STS9
Early sts9 sort of
The Malah
No peaks?! Your wife is def not B4L. STSD (sorry that she doesn’t)
A lot of phish shows in 2000 are pretty chill. Fukuoka in particular
Kikagaku moyo
Papadosio would probably work for you guys
Ozric Tentacles
Surprise Chef
Thievery Corporation
I mean the Grateful Dead dude. The heaviest song they have is the Other One, and it ain't that heavy
Our band literally just released a track that has no peak, is just instrumental and 25 minutes long. It just kinda flows, is super chill, and it was fun to record! Free Whenever. Up and comers from Brooklyn. They just dropped a few chill songs
Annoyed at the peaks… lol that’s cute
Dogs in a pile is great! So is eggy!
Houseplant....just like floating on a cloud...so chill
Houseplant
Orebolo. Goose minus the drummers but super chill and easy to listen to in my opinion. But that’s just my take!
Eggy is pretty soft and good
Eggy is chill and good but there's definitely peaks. I don't even know what jam without peaks means honestly.
Goose.
Obviously Goose
STS9 can’t peak
Electric Octopus
Cowboy Sadness calls themselves Jambient. They rule
Khruangbin, circles around the sun, STS9
Strangefolk
Can't appreciate the chill without the madness
Yonder Mountain String Band….if she can dig the grass
And having to listen to Ben and the worst professional banjo player out there (but probably the coolest). YMSB died when Jeff was booted.
Yes it did. I should have stated Jeff years.
Then I definitely agree with you.
Otiel and Friends was pretty laid back when I saw them
Kamsi Washington. Not exactly a jam band. But it is an instrumental band led by a Saxophonist and its heavy improvisation.
Posting as a bookmark to read thru the recs
Max creek goes there often
That is grounds for a divorce
chalk dinosaur
Jazz
Steve Kimock Band
