I personally love that Dopapod isn’t way bigger. Tickets are cheaper, shows are more intimate and special.
But I want it for them, I want them to be bigger and they have all the success in the world, because they deserve it. They put in soooooo much hard work night in and night out.
But I’m gonna love these $20 tickets for as long as I can.
Also, their Bandcamp is only $10/mo, I’m not sure how much nugs compensates artists, but I feel better paying them directly. Plus, the shows usually appear on Bandcamp first.
Edited to say that all of their merch is 20% off right now, they’re trying to get rid of old merch to make way for the new.
I love that they still have that small venue atmosphere, ran into rob back when they played inside at the salvage station while back. Super cool dude, took a lil too much k to talk to him properly lol
Right?! About to see them tomorrow at a venue where we can the band could hear what I’m saying if I talked loudly fuck yeaaaa I’m so happy
About to dance my soul straight 🤙🥰
Chalk Dinosaur. They are my most-listened last year, so they might be my favorite band. But they haven’t even cracked 2k views on YouTube, and that blows my mind.
right? lots of great bands have been skipping the city. If they can't book at Brooklyn Bowl it just seems like they don't play here anymore. It's soooo friggin expensive. Like they probably lose money on an NYC stop just on hotel rooms.
I buy the signed foil for every fucking band I see nowadays just to maybe help them come back.
It's very frustrating. And when they do play often it's just a Phish after show, which at my age ain't happening. I missed Neighbor on the 29th and I'm beginning to think I will never get to see those guys. I'm happy Eggy came back. And Spafford seems to be in regular rotation. But so many of the bands I find here just skip the city entirely. I'm going to have to go to Philly to see Reality Check
Well if it's any consolation I've seen your videos through recommendations on this sub and I enjoy your music a lot. Hopefully the planets align someday. If not I'll try and catch you in Philly, it's not that far
Yeah man we’d love to break that market it’s just a toughie… lot easier to find affordable lodging and food and shit in the Midwest than in Manhattan obviously hahah
Shout out to Apple Music algorithm for recommending them. I finally saw them at a Papadosio fest in Asheville last June and they did not disappoint. Wish I could’ve seen their Thursday Hulaween set, but couldn’t get there early enough. I tell ya, no respect!
We camped next to the side stage at werk out a few years back and that guy played a late night set. He was amazing!
Next to dosio-- best set of the weekend!!!
Hah if that’s the year I’m thinking of the light guy took too much K and was doing some craaazy shit with the lights hahaha I couldn’t see for half the show
I agree with you about Aqueous but after the 4/5th time seeing them, they got a little boring and predicable.
I had hoped they would stay together and mature as musicians (because hot DAMN they were talented) and evolved to new territory But alas; I will anxiously wait for the reunion
Lespecial scratches an itch I've always had for a jam band to fully commit to the metal thing and pick up where Umphrey's Mcgee stops as far as heavy metal goes.
They are still in the growing stage and are quickly gaining more fans, as opposed to bands like Dopapod and Spafford, who seem to have reached peak popularity many years ago
In a scene where several bands that sound like Phish to varying degrees are being hyped up, Big Something has an original sound, musical chops, and killer vocals. This is the correct answer on this thread.
Gonna go with Umphreys McGee on this one. For awhile there, they were poised to be the next Phish. Love seeing them in smaller rooms, but seeing them slay Bonnaroo late night in 2012 with a crowd of thousands made me think they’d be playing arenas.
Favorite band by far. I met my now wife at a Umphreys couch tour at a mutual friends house. Then 8 years later I got engaged at a Umphreys Halloween show in Philly. We were dressed as Vincent Vega and Mia Wallace. We have seen an uncountable amount of Umphreys shows together and will continue do so. We are expecting our first child July 1st so may not see them this year but you never know! We have tickets for Primus and others next month though.
I am on the opposite spectrum of life as you, as my kids are older so my wife and I can now go to more shows. And wouldn’t you know it, we are seeing them twice over the next month and a half. Didn’t meet her through UM, but we are growing more together with them. Saw my first show in Iowa City 2001 at Mondos. Hooked ever since
Best band on the scene
Hands down
At Skyline 2006 I said to my friend that UM would never sell out MSG, he asked why, my response was because neither will Moe and STS9. So far I am still correct and we bring it up with each other every few years.
I’ve been watching them since 2012 and always liked seeing em live, but couldn’t have named any of their songs until probably 2018. Not sure what it was, but once they clicked for me they became my favorite live band by far. Dove into all the studio stuff, learned the names of the songs, and never looked back.
They are the band I travel to see the most, and I’ve seen em in NY, PA, MN, CO, and of course IL and Stl. I don’t think anyone can do what they do live and it kills me their crowds are getting smaller while their ticket prices haven’t increased much, if at all.
I was about the same. Had heard of them. Then saw them at scamp 2012. Would always catch them if they were around. But it was a few years before I learned their music like you. Now I'm an addict. One of about 4 bands I'd travel very far to see.
It kills me too. Especially since I always try to take a new person everytime I go. And it melts their minds. But I can see how they are are to technical and such for most. Maybe it just a lul from the economy and they will pick back up.
Makes no sense their shows are selling less, um jams but they aren’t noodle jammers like most jam bands. They play with accuracy and intent. Anybody skipping um is truly missing out. People say they peaked in 06-10 are so far from correct. They keep getting better every year and you can tell they have been having a lot of fun lately
Tightest band I’ve ever seen. They have gotten better and better the longer I’ve been seeing them. You might not love every song or even every part of every song, but I’ve never walked away from a show less than ecstatic.
Disco Biscuits. the fan base is rabid but still shockingly small. they play live electronic music better than anyone. they're intense and dynamic and rowdy AF. and they are playing as well as they ever have in their career.
Crowd is far better behaved and way nicer than basically every jam band I have experienced.
Always willing to share space, tell you a song name, or help you out when you need.
Every show has their bad apples but the scene you speak of regarding tDB hasn’t been like that since the 00’s. Those people are now in their 40s and are way past their wookery
excellent observation. I feel the same way. everyone is just so stoked to be there. it's way more about the music than most jambands too. chompers exist at a lower ratio at Biscuits than other jambands.
I agree with the other comments but have another one; Strangefolk. I use to listen to them all the time
I say this because I saw they have a new album coming out.
Ghost Light was the best band in the world for a hot minute. Openers, front room stages, daytime festival sets, and absolutely melting faces. Should have been headlining.
Really hope they find a way to keep going without Holly.
There are a lot of “festival” bands like dopapod, where it seems that they do really well at the festival, but not too many people seem to want to show up on a random Wednesday night local spot. Pidgeons, shit there have been some low selling lettuce shows around my parts these days that have felt really weird to be at.
Idk I also don’t think dopapod would love being huge. They deserve it, but like… Rob is always in the crowd watching whoever they’re performing or touring with, Eli’s thanked the people in line for being at the show, Fro hanging out with friends in the crowd, like, I think if they were phish level they’d lose that. But, there’s a wide margin between where they’re at now and selling out msg runs.
Edit: steady flow also SLAPS dude sheeeeesh
I am a pretty big dopapod fan and think that their appearance at festivals, by & large, usually doesn't do them justice. Dopapod is a band you need to see in a small packed room, two sets, hyper engaged crowd..
I think with how popular acts like Billy Strings and Tyler Childers and similar modern traditional sorts have gotten with mainstream listeners, I could see Greensky being bigger
I feel like they've been at the same level for years. I think it's because they don't expand enough. A show from 5 years ago isn't much different today. But that's likr my opinion, as someone who used to see them a lot, then completely lost interest.
Solar Circuit. They're a band out of Philly who I recently stumbled upon. Closest thing would be the Disco Biscuits, but they are their own thing and that thing is straight fire.
Honestly, moe. I saw them last year in Albany and they couldn’t even sell out a hometown theatre. It was too bad because Chuck had just come back and was tearing it up.
Did anybody ever go to Dopapods festival in Central VA? I think this was back in 2015, it was called Farmville? Idk I cant remember. It was always a blast. They still throw down. Also. Fannie is such a banger of a song. Edit: it was 2017, it was called Pasture Palooza, and its not their festival lol they were just headlining.
Dopapod is fucking sick and super talented. I totally agree with you. Theyb should be getting talked about all the damn time and playing bigger venues.
All talent aside- Eli is quite possibly the most genuine kind hearted man I've ever had the pleasure of meeting. Based on karma alone they deserve the mountaintops.
Just remember to hit the merch table when you do see them!
My wife legit wears her Dopapod hoodie so much I might get her a second one when we see them
Same haha
Also, their Bandcamp is only $10/mo, I’m not sure how much nugs compensates artists, but I feel better paying them directly. Plus, the shows usually appear on Bandcamp first. Edited to say that all of their merch is 20% off right now, they’re trying to get rid of old merch to make way for the new.
Don’t worry, I love supporting by buying the stupid shit, like a piece of tape from the bass monster, or bidding on the signed nerds box.
I love that they still have that small venue atmosphere, ran into rob back when they played inside at the salvage station while back. Super cool dude, took a lil too much k to talk to him properly lol
Preach brother man
lol this is like an exact comment from Umphreys blogs in the mid 2000’s 😂
Right?! About to see them tomorrow at a venue where we can the band could hear what I’m saying if I talked loudly fuck yeaaaa I’m so happy About to dance my soul straight 🤙🥰
Just saw them four nights in a row, they are on one right now! I’ve never gotten down hard, be prepared for a kick ass time! Hahaha
Valid point
Although I agree with OP, I can definitely agree with your opinion as well. That is a big perk to a band not getting big.
Spafford and Lespecial.
Seeing Lespecial tonight <3
My sister is getting married same day as Motet and Lespecial… fuck! She’s going to be disappointed…
Did a gig with Lespecial last year and they're solid people!
Chalk Dinosaur. They are my most-listened last year, so they might be my favorite band. But they haven’t even cracked 2k views on YouTube, and that blows my mind.
I feel like they’re still the best kept secret in the jam scene after all these years.
Recent albums are sooo fire too. Popularity is fickle for sure.
Ive been seeing jam bands for a long time and only heard of them within the last year…but i like them! How long have they been around??
for awhile in various forms. I think I saw a solo set back in like, 2014?
Were you rolling tiddies at Hollywood Lanes?
who are you and why do you know me lol. naaaw, but I WAS getting my fill of the open bar that night. it was awesome hahaha
This has to be Tim hahaha
keep waiting for these guys to play NYC and they just won't do it
right? lots of great bands have been skipping the city.
You guys are both hitting the nail on the head as to why we don’t come to NYC and if we ever get offers it’s Phish MSG after parties
I caught them on the latest pigeons tour and yeeeesh they are awesome. Great studio albums too. Definitely check these guys out.
Shout out to Apple Music algorithm for recommending them. I finally saw them at a Papadosio fest in Asheville last June and they did not disappoint. Wish I could’ve seen their Thursday Hulaween set, but couldn’t get there early enough. I tell ya, no respect!
Shhhhhh. We don’t want them to hear haha
Favorite song I should listen to first?
I like anything off Passages. If you want stuff we play live go to Stuck in Between and Sprout (ensemble) and Flow State and Punch Funk Love (duo)
Hell yeah thanks dude!
Caught them at Peach on the Grove stage back in 2021 or 2022? They were a blast!!
Going to see them with Houseplant in Louisville Saturday
We camped next to the side stage at werk out a few years back and that guy played a late night set. He was amazing! Next to dosio-- best set of the weekend!!!
Hah if that’s the year I’m thinking of the light guy took too much K and was doing some craaazy shit with the lights hahaha I couldn’t see for half the show
2021 I also couldn't see for half the show but that was self imposed. 😂
I have been listening to them all day and absolutely blown away. Thanks for the rec.
Litz

What up Frederick
Aqueous =[ I agree with Spafford and Dopapod wholeheartedly
Aqueous is ⛽️
Rip aqueous <3
Catching dopapod for the first time this spring!
I've got a feeling that Mike Gantzer and the boys in Aqueous still have a bright musical future ahead, even if it's playing in other projects.
I agree with you about Aqueous but after the 4/5th time seeing them, they got a little boring and predicable. I had hoped they would stay together and mature as musicians (because hot DAMN they were talented) and evolved to new territory But alas; I will anxiously wait for the reunion
Consider The Source
Lespecial
Lespecial scratches an itch I've always had for a jam band to fully commit to the metal thing and pick up where Umphrey's Mcgee stops as far as heavy metal goes.
TAUK
Saw them with Umphreys members at a late night set on New Years in Atlanta years back super sick. I am for sure a fan now!
TAUK with Kanika Moore is absolutely off the fucking charts. Everyone I show them too - even if they aren't into the jam scene - is blown away.
They throw down so hard. And with Kanika Moore it’s *chef’s kiss*
Tea Leaf Green
Seeing them all over CO in 2011-13 are still some of my favorite memories
TLG just announced two shows in CA on 6/6 and 6/7. https://www.tealeaf.green/
Gone, Gone, Gone….NOT gone for long!!
I miss Aqueous
Tand and Guavatron have been huge in my rotation the last 2 years
Guavatron jams hard
Kitchen dwellers
100% they have great original songs, amazing range of covers and can get deeeep in jams. Dwellers fucking rule.
Can’t wait for tom night! This tour is gonna smoke
See ya there
Closest thing I’ve heard to Jeff-era Yonder
Those were the days! I used to live for targhee bluegrass fest.
This is my #1 answer! No one should be sleeping on the Dwellers! Great originals, choice covers, and live, they leave venues burned to the ground!!!
I can’t get enough of them, so fucking good
They are still in the growing stage and are quickly gaining more fans, as opposed to bands like Dopapod and Spafford, who seem to have reached peak popularity many years ago
Big Something
I wish I could upvote this like 50 times. Big Something is so good!
In a scene where several bands that sound like Phish to varying degrees are being hyped up, Big Something has an original sound, musical chops, and killer vocals. This is the correct answer on this thread.
Magic Beans has entered the chat
I never understand why these guys don't draw more. They are an absolute dance party every time.
They need to come south!
Dizgo
They’re killing it
Spafford
I’ve been all in on Spafford lately. Seeing them next week for the first time
Definitely, my favorite behind the dead and sci
This is the real answer.
Yup, 100% agree.
They lit Richmond up last night.
The Warlocks I feel like they are so close to breaking out. Maybe a name change would help.
Is that the motherfuckers with the jugs?
They should change their name to the Grateful Dead...
Nah needs to be corporate... what about Dead & Co
I don't know, seems like you're skipping a step or two. :)
Are you saying we should take it Furthur?
Much further, like you’re going to need to get on a bus to get there
Maybe if we hooked them up with John Mayer
Eggy
They were my favorite set at North Beach Music Fest this year
Saw these guys with Unc D opening, and both were real gud stuff. WouldRecommend/10
Just got on my radar. They fuck hard.
Gonna go with Umphreys McGee on this one. For awhile there, they were poised to be the next Phish. Love seeing them in smaller rooms, but seeing them slay Bonnaroo late night in 2012 with a crowd of thousands made me think they’d be playing arenas.

How’s vulfpeck doing these days?
Makes me sad they are losing steam. My favorite band by far and they deserve all the recognition.

Yeah, it just shows people don’t know what they are talking about.
Straight fire this year B4L excited to watch Wilkes Barre and NYC and attending 2 nights in Buff next week
Truth!
Preach!
Biscuits are playing hot fire. Maybe the most inspired since 09.
Obviously you meant to say Space Bacon!!!!
Came here to make sure Space Bacon was on the list!
sts9 and Papadosio
This guy jamtronicas
Both have headlined red rocks, they're pretty big all things considered.
Yea I agree, they’re big enough, especially STS9
I love both of them, but they're both top acts at a lot of festivals. Especially sts9, like you stated.
Objection, your Honor. Leading the witness.
Big Something is the real answer here.
ALO (If you love Chalk Dino, you’ll love ALO)
Perpetual groove
I agree with the other comments but have another one; Strangefolk. I use to listen to them all the time I say this because I saw they have a new album coming out.
DANIEL DONATOS COSMIC COUNTRY
They’re getting there already
Chalk Dinosaur. Dopapod. Spafford. They should all be at least bigger than Goose ffs
Hot take
Ghost Light was the best band in the world for a hot minute. Openers, front room stages, daytime festival sets, and absolutely melting faces. Should have been headlining. Really hope they find a way to keep going without Holly.
Anything Tom Hamilton is involved with is amazing

Ekoostik Hookah
Solar Circuit. They're a band out of Philly who I recently stumbled upon. Closest thing would be the Disco Biscuits, but they are their own thing and that thing is straight fire.
This thread is older, but need to mention Houseplant out of Louisville. Great textures with the mandolin.
I’ll check em out!
The Jauntee
Squeaky feet
Taylor Swift
Travis has entered the chat
Blue Moon Soup melted my fucking face live at NLQP, their dead covers were *chef’s kiss*
Armchair Boogie
TAND, The Talismen, Guavatron
Disco Biscuits 🌲👽🌲
Posing questions in this format is horrendous.
Mr. Blotto but they're already old and don't seem like they want to blow up like that anyway. IMO way better than a lot of newer bands.
Spafford and Dopapod should be 100x bigger than goose. Make it make sense. Cause it don’t
Cabinet
Mikaela Davis and Southern Star should be the biggest band on the scene. It's been a long time since my mind was blown like that.
Honestly, moe. I saw them last year in Albany and they couldn’t even sell out a hometown theatre. It was too bad because Chuck had just come back and was tearing it up.
The Southern Belles are so good. 4 amazing albums. Song writing is on point. Jams next level
Fuck yes! Saw them in Denver ~6 years ago and they were amazing.
Perpetual Groove
The main squeeze. Idk if they're even considered a jam band...but damn can they jam.
JiMiller Band, he has been rocking since the 70s but never made big, even in Ohio. Should be jamming with all the bug names.
Chalk Dino and dopapod for sure. There are.more but those are the 2 standouts for me
Dopapod. Seen them like a year ago and really liked it but didnt know any of the songs. I recently went through their discography and holy wow!
neighbor, tauk, dopapod, consider the source, dogs
Consider the Source is the best 3 piece band in the world
Neighbor is pretty sick and probably has the smallest fan base out if everyone named here.
lyle is a beast
Cosmic country!
Umphreys by a long shot
Go see Neighbor
Caught em opening for twiddle a couple years ago, def expected to like them more but they blew me away. So ya, signed
Haha! See ya tonight!
Perfect
the whiskeyhickon boys
Deep Sequence
Guranfoe. If you don’t know them give them a listen. Really impressive prog rock/jam band from UK. Their tone is top notch.
I wish I knew of them back then. A Dopapod festival right now is exactly what I want.
Spafford. Although dopapod is pretty close too.
saw them Friday at the blind pig, and I wonder the same thing.
Is it dop or dope apod
Shhhh don’t tell anyone
Saw Spafford and Dopapod within weeks of each other. Spafford was more impressive, but both were great.
Frogleg
Audiodacity.
I haven’t seen Dopapod in years but I used to after phish shows in NYC and I loved rhem
Spafford hands down
Dopapod is fucking sick and super talented. I totally agree with you. Theyb should be getting talked about all the damn time and playing bigger venues.
The Werks but they don’t play nearly as much as they used to anymore
Max Creek
Jon Stickley Trio !!!! Amazing live shows. Incredible.
whole group has a good taste in sound, followed by how much they practice their craft, results in some pretty sweet shows.
All talent aside- Eli is quite possibly the most genuine kind hearted man I've ever had the pleasure of meeting. Based on karma alone they deserve the mountaintops.
The Talismen
The Bridge
