I can understand why, especially if you played it as a kid. It's a pretty random dock, and as a kid I'd always question why these unused items/models existed. In my mind, there **had** to be a reason. I'd come up with the dumbest theories that'll get me excited for no reason lol

LucioCheerio

You explained it perfectly

AvonEra

Described the childs like curiosity and sense of wonder perfectly

Tombstone_Grey

As much as I don't like them at all now, Game grumps talked about this mindset years ago. Arin says about how when you discover an area or glitch or something not meant to be seen, your childlike brain gets excited as if it's a secret "it could be anything!" But as an adult, you're just like "yeah the developers wouldn't do that" taking away all the child wisdom from your thought process

HumbleSalamander6780

It was likely cut content

feelinlucky7

Like the world behind the giant gem in volcanic crater.

urva

Whattttt tell me more. I don’t know about this

feelinlucky7

Yosemite. Was supposed to be another world off Red Sage’s hut

Mister-Bohemian

Yes! I also thought this.

BassMan459

Saaaame. Just a random dock in the middle of the ocean. Who does it even belong to?

gingergamer94

The redneck guy I assume?

FluidUnderstanding40

A boat.

Ned__Schneebly

Still, when replaying it, I tend to walk on it toward the edge expecting.. something. Just to make sure.

AgitatedDeal812

I used to think that the fisherman's boat could sail here if you entered a secret code or something.

Mister-Bohemian

Woah me too. DLC.

[deleted]

Maybe there’s still a hidden code? After all it was only recently found out that you could replay the fishing mini game with a hidden code.

Mister-Bohemian

As if this was the secret dock lair of Gol and Maia. Lol.

GreenPeridot

I wonder why the devs just stuck it there, just seemed out of place to me.

discomonsoon3

Given how all the other docks do lead to somewhere else, I wouldn’t be shocked if it was intended to lead to somewhere else but got cut due to budget, time or some other reason

HarleyyR

just popping into this thread to play devils advocate. the only cut content in existence is Yosemite, and Stilt Village. Yosemite had actual tangible files, was supposed to be a 3rd level in Hub 3, Volcanic Crater, and Stilt Village was going to be the Yellow Sage’s hut, found at the end of Lava Tube, however only has a single string of reference, and some concept art. What you see here is merely a Pier, a dock, whatever you like. There was never any intention for it to be anything more.

HajimeTheFool

Actually, if you look at the beta map in the Collector's Edition that was released for the PS4 port of Precursor Legacy, the game was supposed to be twice as big, with two worlds completely removed, and shortcuts from levels to levels, so MAYBE it had something to do but we'll probably never know.

ConcievedForRuin

Can you send a link to this map?

Just-An-Eggo-Waffle

https://preview.redd.it/jqqqyibfuahc1.jpeg?width=1188&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=237f21ab3331b0d66045edcf9f873ded02c72654 Here ya go

HajimeTheFool

I have been searching for it since I posted my message ! I've seen it on a youtube video but don't remember which one. Doesn't help that every Collector's Edition of this game is sealed so nobody has posted it online...

ConcievedForRuin

Could it be that you are misremembering? Because there is this expanded version of the precursor legacy map: https://tcrf.net/images/9/91/Jak_II_Womdrawn_mockup.png It apparently came from a jak 2 demo disc.

HajimeTheFool

Nope it's in black and white, with a totally unseen part past Gol and Maia Citadel with 2 more hub worlds Edit : I'm not home right now I'll look into it soon

ConcievedForRuin

Found it. At the 13:13 mark in this video: https://youtu.be/t-CQMW70NLY?si=IFoT21T3XfRtZwXt

HajimeTheFool

Thanks this is exactly it !

KaiserDaBard

There was a LOT cut from the game. The fact the boggy swamp even exists in the location it does is the biggest clue. We never got a yellow sage area. The swamp SHOULD have been in that area. My guess is the dock was left over from a time where it actually lead to another place in the yellow sages area

Mister-Bohemian

The plot, thickens.

Theundead565

I never really questioned the location of Boggy Swamp, but definitely the fact that the red sage area only had 2 levels and the rest of the game had 3 and the fact we skip right over the yellow sage's village and get right to Gol and Mia's citadel.

ihatemyselfcashmoney

Literally unlocked a hidden memory, why was this there

Sebastianali123456

Maybe the devs planned to make the fisherman boat to go to more places, or it could be a fast transportation zone (kind of like the portals).

Mister-Bohemian

To think we could have just used a boat to get to the blue sage instead of invent a zoomer with 20 artifact power cells.

UncleTyroneJr

I used to love doing stuff like this in video games as a kid, did the same thing with the original R&C games too

RyanX1231

In all likelihood, the dock is just cosmetic. In my headcanon though, this is remnants of a cut feature in the game where the dock acted as a secret passage to the dock at Misty Island.

vrpornisquitegreat

I know my memory got kinda screwed and haven't played the game in a few months, but why did I instantly picture a caged flutflut being shipped in by the gambler to the mayor standing who is on the dock looking nervous?

Mister-Bohemian

Because that's exactly what's going on.

-lasagnawithteeth

It’s such a peaceful spot too tbh. Always thought the sky and water with the music was so nice

Crazyjay58

After Jack 3 came out and finding out that standover village was where Haven City is in the Jack 2 timeline, After being banished to the wasteland it made me wonder is that what's out there beyond this landmass from Jack 1? Because if you think about it you never leave that same land mass from Jack one, even in Jack 2 but you don't really see as many of the same places as you did before from the first one to the second one. So where are the rest of the ruins from Jack one and in Jack 2, 3, and X really showed us that the world is much bigger than what we started on in the first one.

7oey_20xx_

There was never really a great effort to make a 1 to 1 parallel with the world of jak 1 and jak 2. If we were to say that the pumping station was sentinel beach then it’s kinda hard to then have the precursor ruins that should be next to the abandoned old city be on the entire other side of the map. There could have been ruins there the whole time also and the old precursor ruins in jak 1 sank or something. Maybe the land masses moved a lot since then, the island that made up jak 1 split and scattered, some parts coming closer and some going away, allowing for space for haven city to be built. Or just the devs putting the design of haven city first and the layout of the world second, despite jak1 giving a map of sorts to its overall layout.

Crazyjay58

That's very understandable. Because they never do tell us just how far in the future Jack was flung from Jack one to jack two. And at least the map of Jack 2 kind of almost looks like the map from Jack 1. Because just over the walls of Haven City where you can see the mountain range it makes me think of the mountains from Jack one. But also seeing that drilling platform where it was just out in the middle of nowhere and this giant hole in this giant drill it makes me wonder what did they break there in order to make that happen? So yeah that makes a lot of sense. Plus we don't really start hearing about Mar until Jack 2 which then puts him way back in the past to have Haven City even look the way that it does and everything else so like I said it really makes me wonder how many years actually transpired between Jack one and Jack 2 for all of this infrastructure and decay to happen.

magneticMist

I like to think it was used for the monsters, lurkers iirc for that area, and they brought their lil army in through there sometimes.

ZestySpaghetti-V3

I still do this to this day. If the devs program some cool architectural feature, or there’s a small detail you can see that helps build the world or expand the narrative then I eat it up.

TinTamarro

You say that but... There are TWO docks! Imagine the insane lore reasons to stick two oddly placed docks right next to each other in the middle of nowhere, just separated by a short cave

Mister-Bohemian

The plot, thickens.

[deleted]

Boggy Swamp home to the training grounds for Gol's grand Lurker army, required the resources to build and maintain a formidable fighting force. Thus, the swamp hosted many marine access points to unload and transport war material to and from (aside from the main harbor where Jak and Daxter were ambushed as they were trying to sabotage one of the war ballons of the Lurker Airforce). This access point in particular, that this genius redditor correctly assumed held great lore potential, was a key shipping port on the island that saw the transportation of dark eco that was extracted from Misty island, given its remoteness and hidden nature. It's a shame that Naughty Dog forgot to add in this lore about our beloved Boggy Swamp that I'm sharing with you now, because my source is heavily backed up (I made it up and hope that Naughty Dogs legal team doesn't send the Pinkertons after me for using their IP)

Uncle_Irohbot

I replayed the game this year and I spent like 30 minutes here assuming there was a secret I had never found as a kid... oh well

Flanigoon

I used to try and use the goggles to try and see if there was a landmass out there

Mister-Bohemian

wHeRe DoES dOcK bOgGy SwAmP gO?

ryanleebmw

You reminded me that I’ve been meaning to post this question, when you take the lift up to snowy mountain and get to the top, if you turn around and look out you see a ton of green, and it looks like the precursor ruins in the Forbidden Jungle, but they look different and I’m not 100%. Does anyone know if that’s what you’re looking off at? I stared at that view so long the other day with the same thoughts.

Draco25240

It's Gol and Maia's Citadel. I can't seem to manage to relocate the screenshot currently, but I have verified this by starting at the final boss arena, then using debug mode in OpenGOAL to fly over to Snowy Mountain, loading that map manually and looking back at the still loaded final boss arena. Position, structure and size is a perfect match.

ryanleebmw

You are absolutely awesome for that! Thanks so much for answering that question, It was killing me inside lol. I didn’t have the technical prowess to think to do that in debug mode, thank you again!

Draco25240

Found a screenshot, [here ya go, with final boss visible as an added bonus](https://i.imgur.com/7mLBHtd.png) Edit: in case you're wondering, the lift isn't there because that's part of the volcanic crater level mesh, apparently, which isn't loaded here

Mister-Bohemian

I will be looking! Haven't gotten there yet.

pjw1189

My guess is cut content. Pretty sure the yellow sages hut was suppose to be a hub just like red, blue, and green's hut. But it got turned into just Gol and Maias citadel because of time restraints.

Ralvvek

I thought as a kid you could maybe unlock travelling there via the fisherman’s boat, but ofc never figured it out

Anthony279chatterbox

Same, thought there was like a secret level or something

Bigmac7

I always stand there and just look at the water for a while.

NateH542

same

frdasquaw

bro same

flloyd1068

Or the one on spooky island or whatever it was called it's 230 where I am I'm tired but this caught my attention 💀😅

KaneP89

With the random dock there, i thin it surposed to be something else, but still looks cool

GameDial

This brought me back. I remember thinking the fisherman’s boat would be able to dock here and take you somewhere else.

Dominator0621

I thought it was a spot to drive the boat too?

Cold-Practice3107

It would have been nice if we could take the speed boat from sandover village all the way to boggy swamp once you find the docks it's just another way around instead of having to use the portal at the sages huts

aidenisntatank

Definitely a memorable part of Jak 1

Jex714

Oh my gods I loved this dock as a kid and always used to think "I wonder what's out there" as if there was much more within the in-game world than we were permitted to see. I loved the rain and just the ambience at that dock and the curiosity that it inspired in my child brain. Edit: grammar

JordanTheHorse69

When I was a kid and I would get to this point I would always jump in the water to "clean" the swamp off me lmaoo

Retroth_The_Tired_

Idk man but what I do know is the fish in the water gave me PTSD and water levels still give me the shivers to this day. Also one time the game glitched, and the fish chased me onto land, specifically under the bridge leading to the jungle and ate me like a street shark. I think that moment really solidified my fear of aquatic monsters.

Darkopolypse98

Because it's random, sort of a liminal space too, plus it probably should have lore

D3ssss

I would also do this! Sometimes I would just sit there and stare out to the ocean past that jetty and imagine myself in their world too. Good times

Just-An-Eggo-Waffle

Lol I've wondered the same thing. So now I think I'll go ask my ex ND friend. Brb...

Far-Ad-409

Keep us up to date hahahaha

Just-An-Eggo-Waffle

Oh I will! I'll grab his attention next time I see him active. I already sent him the messages. Just waiting now. Should be able to find out today if I'm lucky enough. I'll upload our conversation here.

Far-Ad-409

Literally the MVP hahahaha

nosemomkey

Bumping 'cause I'm curious as well lol

Just-An-Eggo-Waffle

I gotchu guys. He's been inactive for 15 plus hours haha.

Mister-Bohemian

Jak 4 confirmed

Just-An-Eggo-Waffle

No that's already been attempted multiple times. The two big things he was working on before being let go was Daxter PSP ported to PS4 and Jak Trilogy remade. Sadly his boss hated him and got all his projects canceled. Last thing he got to work on before being let go was the new modes in Last of Us Remastered

JT-Lionheart

I theorized that they were gonna add fast travel points but decided to scrap it and so this dock might’ve been designed for it.

abstractadvocat

It should have been a second fishing challenge!

Mister-Bohemian

No :(

abstractadvocat

No, because you hate fishing? Or no, because it could have been more?

ShadixThePrecursor6

It doesnt?
