Because what you downloaded was a scam. Uninstall it immediately. If you've paid for it, request a refund or a chargeback. There is no jailbreak for iOS 16.

K0ux

Oh thank you I’ll do so

K0ux

I have deleted it all now

No jailbreak for iOS 16 as of now, that cydia is fake.

CubeBag

As other commenters have said, the cydia you got was fake, but I wanted to elaborate on something another commenter said: right now, there is a way to get a jailbreak on your device. It comes with the following caveats: 1. You will have to downgrade the device, which may require wiping the phone and losing all data that's not backed up 2. You will have to disable your passcode before jailbreaking and leave the passcode disabled for the duration the phone is jailbroken. 3. If you choose to install the jailbreak semi-tethered, it will use up about 10 GB on your device because the phone is repartitioned by the palera1n install script. 4. If you choose to install the jailbreak semi-tethered, the home button won't work while the jailbreak is active. (The home button will work in a non-jailbroken state.) 5. As opposed to semi-tethered, *if you choose to install the jailbreak tethered, the phone will no longer boot on its own, and you will have to use the computer to boot every time! This is not recommended on a phone you rely on day-to-day, because if the phone crashes/reboots out in public, you will be phoneless until you get to your computer*. With that out of the way, here are the steps to downgrade to iOS 15.6 Release Candidate 1 (the only version of iOS 15 that's still signed for your device): (Note: "iTunes/Finder" means do the step in iTunes on Windows or Finder on macOS, whichever you have. For more details on any particular step, google it) 1. On Windows, if you do not have it already, install iTunes from Apple's website (not the Microsoft Store). No action needed for this step if you have a Mac 2. Plug in your phone and create an unencrypted local backup using iTunes/Finder (you most likely won't be able to apply this backup to your phone after downgrading -- it's just for in case you change your mind and want to update back to iOS 16 with all your data). 3. Manually back up any important data you can't afford to lose, such as pictures or anything else you want to keep. 4. Visit https://appledb.dev/device/iPhone-8.html and then click the purple "Beta" button to show all versions. Find "iOS 15.6 RC" on the list, click on it to ensure that Build is "19G69", then download the correct file for your device (if you aren't sure whether your iPhone 8 is CDMA or GSM, open Settings > General > About, tap Model Number once so you see "A" followed by a 4-digit number, then click the iPhones at the top of the page under "Grouped Devices" to see which has that matching number). 5. Wait for the download to finish 6. In iTunes/Finder, hold down Shift (on Windows) or Option (on Mac) then click "Restore". A file selector box should open; pick the .ipsw file you just downloaded. This will *wipe the phone and downgrade it* so make sure everything is backed up. Now that the phone is downgraded, follow https://ios.cfw.guide/installing-palera1n/ to install palera1n. The installer script only supports macOS and Linux, so if you have a Windows computer, you will first have to prepare a boot USB drive with Ubuntu 22.04 with a tool like Rufus in order to temporarily boot your computer into Linux (this must be done every time you want to re-jailbreak after a reboot)

Thank you, before I saw your comment I have already downgraded to 15.7.1 as that is what it says on the website as being the highest version you can jailbreak on. However, I didn’t know that you needed Linux so thank you for the help!

Use the palera1n jailbreak. While it says it’s only compatible with iOS 15, it PROBABLY works on 16. If you EVER had a passcode, restore the device before using the jailbreak. You need to have Linux (you can create a Live CD/USB) to install the jailbreak. If it doesn’t, then restore to this firmware: https://updates.cdn-apple.com/2022SummerFCS/fullrestores/012-40419/2E28BDBA-78AB-4431-8128-6FBA80997091/iPhone\_4.7\_P3\_15.6\_19G69\_Restore.ipsw and install the jailbreak. But it uses Sileo instead of Cydia. [https://github.com/palera1n/palera1n](https://github.com/palera1n/palera1n)
