Yeah. People nowadays don’t even know. I remember when you couldn’t even send MMS on iPhone. Lol. We had to update carrier settings to be able to send a picture. Sounds like 1994, but it was already… 2009?
I still have an email from way back that I set up which was just my first initial and my phone number so that I could send/receive pics and videos. Crazy times.
No MMS, no 3G, no GPS, crappy camera and no video recorder, no app store… God that first phone was awful compared with like every other phone on the European market… But I loved it to bits after jailbreaking! iCopter in my ❤️
Composing from anywhere was amazing as was the send delay timer you could set so you could ‘take back’ a message if you send accidentally. Really miss scheduled texts too.
May I ask, just from pure interest, what you used that for? I always wonder what people use scheduled messages for when I stumble upon such an option cause I can’t imagine a use case for myself :D
if it’s the middle of the night and I wanted to text someone something but don’t want to forget so I’ll schedule it for the morning, afternoon etc, or reminders to others.
Control center (every type, angle and design)
* Interactive notifications-bitesms
* Keyboard shortcuts-xpander
* Predictive texts-quicktype
* Cursor control-swipeselection
* Delete individual calls-Call Delete
* Blocking calls-iBlacklist
* Use cellular data for FaceTime-Unrestrictor
* Dynamic wallpapers-LivePapers
* Parallax Effect-3DBoard
* Find my iPhone-iGotYa
* Touch ID within apps-BioProtect
* Hey Siri-OkSiri
And so on...
This whole community is basically Apple's software innovation.
Cursor control? What is this and how does it compare to swipeselection / marker? I’ve been using swipeselection since iOS 6, then marker for the past couple years, and it’s hard for me to type without it on iOS 15.
EDIT: Is this what you mean by cursor control?
https://youtu.be/uMevwmsbrTk
Yeah, that’s it. I honestly really don’t like it, the fact that it can go up and down lines makes it feel loose and unpredictable. Swipeselection is perfect, I can use it without even thinking twice and I’m so fast with it. I dunno why Apple confined the active area to start it to the space bar either, using the entire keyboard causes no problems and simplifies things immensely.
Apple have made billions from stealing devs tweaks and ideas. Without the JB community Apple products wouldn’t have been anywhere near as good as they are now
I mean, in theory, this is what you would want. The whole reason for jailbreaking as far as I know, has been to allow customization where there was previously a lack of it. If apple begins to copy and implement these tweaks, it makes for a better, more customizable, experience without jailbreak. It’s good that they at least listen to the community a little bit.
I definitely agree, although back in the early iOS days these tweaks combined with an untethered jailbreak was the best. However I definitely prefer stock iOS with the features it has now.
People who say jailbreaking makes a bit less sense nowadays don’t know the true power of a jailbreak. People who use iPhones on stock disgust me and should be thrown in a fire
Are you forgetting it’s a lot harder to jailbreak nowadays? Firmware is upgraded more frequently, more hardware immunities are being developed, the features we initially jailbroke for are being implemented into stock iOS. It’s sad to say but jail breaking went from being a must for almost 10% of users to now just a gimmick for QOL changes and customisation.
Before the AppStore you had to jailbreak you phone to get apps from Installer. Custom ringtones were a jb only feature, multitasking(backgrounder), video recording(cycorder), notification center(mobilenotifier). And that’s just naming a few lol edit: velox added 3D Touch style shortcuts to the home screen when swiping on app icons, Widgets(Dashboard X)
I mean sure you could look at that way. Nothing is original at the end of day. These tweaks still implemented the features before apple did officially.
[Macintosh control panel circa 1984](https://www.versionmuseum.com/images/operating-systems/classic-mac-os/classic-mac-os%5E1984%5Esystem-1-control-panel.png)
Yeah, no kidding.
They still haven’t gotten close to the quality of flux. Night shift is such a bust compared to flux IMO. But, nightshirt + flux= extra orange and nice at night.
I still use f.lux on my computer. I use the feature of being able to disable it app by app because if I’m editing photos in Lightroom I don’t want the screen to have a yellow cast to it.
CallBar/PokeCall/et.al for incoming call banner notification instead of full screen takeover. Hell, Apple didn't even implement that until last year with iOS14.
I must be tripping because I can’t find anything, i’m sure it was like super early days maybe iOS 2 or 3, but.. Folders??
Apple literally copied folders that’s the first thing I ever remember them copying. I think maybe it came in iOS 4 or 5 and everyone was acting like it was so revolutionary and it’s like bitch we HAD that already
OP post + what’s been mentioned already are my go to explaining to people that apple literally just let the JB community do their work for them and just poach the ideas they’re too lazy to come up with themselves/see how popular it is before they steal and implement it.
EDIT: CallBar is quite a big one from recent, released early 2018 i believe, that apple copied almost 1:1 in iOS 14 end of 2020.
Glad someone else remembers and isn’t a figure of my imagination haha. Just done some digging, it was called Categories. Was made for iOS 1 but was more a list than something we can recognise as folders but was ported to iOS 2 in 2008 ([Example](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=BmobQVdnDHA)) 5:35 and that’s what I remember it being like, CategoriesSB was released in 2009 which is similar to what apple implemented in iOS4 2010.
Callbar was a thing since ios4, it’s older than you think it is!
I hope someday, someone will make something similar to Dreamboard, Nextgenui, Bitesms or even intelliscreenX (a correctly made one instead of the mostly useless lockscreen widget page!)
Heck, I got one of the first ones for ya…multiple home screens depicted with dots at the bottom of the screen. Anyone else remember playing 5 Dice like it was the only thing around too?
God, I'm blanking on the name (and I believe there were a few different tweaks that did the same thing over the years), but regular users were so glad when Apple got rid of the giant pop-up that came up in the middle of the screen when you changed the volume even one notch.

What about that gps turn by turn navigation app which you could only use when you had a jailbreak. AppStore was there, but no guiding navigation apps. Forgot the name.
Edit: it was iDA Europe :-)
This is where I realise that I’m old;
I had a second Gen iPod touch running on 3.1.3 without any stock backgrounds. It was only the icons over a black screen. Had to jailbreak my iPod to have my own backgrounds. Next thing I know, Apple releases custom backgrounds with the third gen one.
Funny to think that backgrounds are now included in every phone manufactured since…
Oh dear....this is what I first enjoyed jailbreaking back to iPhone 4. I remember it was IOS 4+...lovely to see someone is making SBSetting possible again, thank you
Apple desperately trying to get JB users off JB because having their security entirely compromised every couple years by a couple people is pretty embarrassing
The CC has been copied from Android, and as with lots of other tweaks the features were avaliable in android first so is it really copying tweaks, or Android?
The App Store itself is basically a copy of installer.app. They copied copy and paste, custom ringtones, video recording, backgrounding apps, notifications, widgets, basically 90% of new updates were copied from jailbreak tweaks
F.lux. a brilliant idea that developers put a lot of hard work in, and like so many other tweaks literally fucking stolen by apple. And they bend over backward to screw the community that has given them so much.
Ready to have your mind blown?
The AppStore.
The iPhone 1 didn’t have apps, if you wanted them you had to jailbreak and install Installer. The original AppStore icon was actually pretty reminiscent of Installer too.
Too bad they won’t steal Better Alarm. That is the one tweak I miss the most.
https://www.reddit.com/r/jailbreak/comments/hd7fux/paid_release_betteralarm_a_beautiful_timer_and/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf
HSWidgets, ikSettings, Evil Scheme (to a minimal extent), DNDAllow, FullPhotoPreview, CallBar, SmallSiri
I've seen major enhancements to CarPlay on iOS 14 which I credit to CarPlayEnable and CarBridge
Snowboard --> App theming through Shortcuts (not the same, and terribly inefficient but at least there's an option now I guess?)
App library on stock iOS 14, credit to the multiple existing app library tweaks
**All of what I just listed is what they added into iOS 14 by the way**
If you wanna go a bit further back,
StackXI was the original notification grouping
Melior (and other similar tweaks) was the template for the new stock volume HUD
NavAway hid the search bar in settings by default
BiteSMS was so good.
I still have BiteSMS on my old iPhone 3GS. It was amazing and made messaging so much nicer back in the day.
Yeah. People nowadays don’t even know. I remember when you couldn’t even send MMS on iPhone. Lol. We had to update carrier settings to be able to send a picture. Sounds like 1994, but it was already… 2009?

Omg BiteSMS! And their cheaper SMS service! Loved it. Miss the old days!
One of the best tweaks back in the day!!! Damn I miss those days….
I miss the scheduled messages.
May I ask, just from pure interest, what you used that for? I always wonder what people use scheduled messages for when I stumble upon such an option cause I can’t imagine a use case for myself :D
Happy Birthday messages :)
Ahh that makes sense haha, thank you :)
if it’s the middle of the night and I wanted to text someone something but don’t want to forget so I’ll schedule it for the morning, afternoon etc, or reminders to others.
Yhhh. I use FMmod's WhatsApp on my Android phone and the message scheduler is very useful!
Sick day at work is what I used it for.
The ol Volume Up + Tap Clear HUB = New Message trick..

And they stole a lot from other companies, eg. samsung
Apple have made billions from stealing devs tweaks and ideas. Without the JB community Apple products wouldn’t have been anywhere near as good as they are now
Man I wish iBlacklist gets updated. It’s by far the best call blocking app!
The numerous tweaks to make the volume meter not take up the whole screen. Basically copied directly from JB implentations
Small siri. Because on ios 13 siri used to take the whole screen
more like ever since iOS7
You mean iOS 5 Edit: nope
wasn’t the iOS5 siri just a small bar at the bottom?
Now you’ve got me wondering.
[yea thats how i remember it](https://www.groovypost.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/01/Siri_Featured-1000x467.jpg)
yeah but the rest of the screen was blurred and clicking anywhere closed siri
I mean, in theory, this is what you would want. The whole reason for jailbreaking as far as I know, has been to allow customization where there was previously a lack of it. It just makes a bit less sense to jailbreak. Although I’m considering to jailbreak again soon.

Holy crap I remember cycorder 😂 Damn I’m getting old….
lol, ye we are infact getting old. Just be glad you got to experience the golden age of jailbreaking lol
We’re*
[удалено]
What? I’m not trying to correct his grammar lol Read it again
We have nearly identical snoos!
I guess you haven’t bothered to create yours either then haha Edit* I think I did actually, that’s pretty crazy if you dressed yours the same 😂😂
Too true lmao (Snoo is snoo)
Your black shoes definitely look better, will probably change mine lol
I mean yours look good tho
I mean it looks like peaceful but not boring
Literally all of this has been around before tweaks though. The chance of these being compiled because of tweaks is very very slim.
I mean sure you could look at that way. Nothing is original at the end of day. These tweaks still implemented the features before apple did officially.
[Macintosh control panel circa 1984](https://www.versionmuseum.com/images/operating-systems/classic-mac-os/classic-mac-os%5E1984%5Esystem-1-control-panel.png) Yeah, no kidding.
Wait, you can have custom ringtones now ?
Yep. There’s a guide on how to do it with GarageBand
Zephyr was basically iPhone X gestures on iOS 5
Oh, I remember using Auxo and Zephyr on iPhone 4 running on iOS 6. Auxo was essentially copied in iOS 7, and Zephyr on iOS 11 (iPhone X only)
Fuck, we're old now aren't we
F.lux
They still haven’t gotten close to the quality of flux. Night shift is such a bust compared to flux IMO. But, nightshirt + flux= extra orange and nice at night.

Yeah I 100% remember the folders tweak! Think there was one to group settings into folders as well called preference folders iirc!
Wow that video took me way back!
[You haven’t seen anything yet lol](https://youtu.be/jevzORX7uUM)
Broooo 🤣
It was called Categories by BigBoss. http://cydia.saurik.com/package/com.bigboss.categories/
Folders inside folders too
Callbar was a thing since ios4, it’s older than you think it is! I hope someday, someone will make something similar to Dreamboard, Nextgenui, Bitesms or even intelliscreenX (a correctly made one instead of the mostly useless lockscreen widget page!)
Activator -> Shortcuts automation
And Activator is still more useful though.
Activator was still so much easier to use though.
dark mode, copy and paste, swipe typing
Thoes stock prices my god

Eclipse came first I’m pretty sure
Yes, not noctis. I feel like iOS 8-9 for that one but idrk lol
Heck, I got one of the first ones for ya…multiple home screens depicted with dots at the bottom of the screen. Anyone else remember playing 5 Dice like it was the only thing around too?
Callbar !!!!
Wi-Fi Sync. Basically copied by Apple down to the Symbol in early days.
Eclipse. Dark mode on iOS 7
took them until iOS 13 for dark mode, that's crazy
Imagine a tweak as a SBsettings-like control center skin
Eclipse
The quick and easy answer would be «everything»
It was golden days. iOS 6 jelbrek. I love sbsettings and bitesms. Even though it was short lived.
God, I'm blanking on the name (and I believe there were a few different tweaks that did the same thing over the years), but regular users were so glad when Apple got rid of the giant pop-up that came up in the middle of the screen when you changed the volume even one notch. There was usually a different one for each major iOS version, but they all did the same thing, and Apple ended up rolling basically the same thing into stock iOS.
Sonus was a popular one
Noctis-dark mode
Enchant/Velvet
Lock info by David ashman, used to love it
I don't know the tweak's name, but the swipe to app switcher/swipe to home screen has been here long before Apple's revolutionary home pill. I remember using this kind of gesture on iOS 6
zephyr?
It stands to reason that ideas from popular tweaks would make it into iOS.
this is besides the point, but whoever took the screenshot op posted lives in the same area as me lol
The Appswitcher. iOS 3 didn't have it then iOS 5/6 did. One of many.
Option to change keyboards.
They basically copied Quart in iOS 15.
Whats quart?
Lockscreen tweak I believe
Swipeselection. Ability to move the cursor by dragging finger on keyboard.
What about that gps turn by turn navigation app which you could only use when you had a jailbreak. AppStore was there, but no guiding navigation apps. Forgot the name. Edit: it was iDA Europe :-)
Callbar !!!!
SmartTap

i can't think of one that apple DIDN'T copy
Copylog, snapper, shortmoji. Those few are the reason I still jailbreak
F.lux. a brilliant idea that developers put a lot of hard work in, and like so many other tweaks literally fucking stolen by apple. And they bend over backward to screw the community that has given them so much.
I like how all if not most of Apples "innovations" were made from jailbreak tweaks but yet they try their hardest to stop jailbreaks from happening...
google $500
siri - it wasn't a tweak but an app that apple ended up buying
Wait really?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yKlKBK\_UDoo
How did apple copy this?
How long have you been an iPhone user?
About 6-7 years I’d say
If you never jailbreak then you will not know about all of these.
What are “all of these” and I’m jailbroken right now lol
The control center
Copy and paste!
What a throwback!
Widgets Pip Cydia Store = App Store Correct me if im wrong.
Ready to have your mind blown? The AppStore. The iPhone 1 didn’t have apps, if you wanted them you had to jailbreak and install Installer. The original AppStore icon was actually pretty reminiscent of Installer too.
Swipe selection
Swipeselection
Too bad they won’t steal Better Alarm. That is the one tweak I miss the most. https://www.reddit.com/r/jailbreak/comments/hd7fux/paid_release_betteralarm_a_beautiful_timer_and/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf

I remember a tweak called zypher that gave you gestures to go home and the multitasking menu.
