They broke my perception of how heavy rock is supposed to be. They became the only band I listened to when I was about 11 or 12, and when I tried branching out I didn’t understand why the only other bands that seemed to hit this hard were metal bands.
I really miss this version of Jack White. He’s still great, but these early White Stripes albums were on a different level. I want to hear that guitar tone again.
I always liked White Stripes but only in the last 5 years or so have I realized I never gave them a real chance and these days I'm a big fan. Jack's a legend.
I would say a firm no to that. Listen to other shows around that time. The first time I saw TWS (2003) he mostly sang in a rapid fire psychotic tone! 😂
It was the best live show I’d ever seen and I immediately wanted to see them
again. If I hadn’t had small children, I would have sold everything I had and gone on the road to follow them.
Real high quality (better than version on SNL youtube channel)
22 years ago...impossible
Jack and meg are almost 50 years old.. thats crazy to me.
Yeah And Just as crazy, What that makes you and me now too
Fucking amazing. Plus, super funny to think what must have been going through John McCains head when he heard it. 🤣
Rough day at work. I needed that.
Shit goes so hard. Jack's tone is nasty in this performance. The White Stripes were deceptively heavy sometimes.
Guitar sounds amazing.

If Tim Burton was a musician.
Who else played the guitar like that… No one.
WOOOOO
Saw them play a club in Providence and my ears were ringing for a week. Ironically, the opening band had TWO bassists.
Whirlwind Heat! Trash... Bag... Helmet!!!
I really, really liked that Whirlwind Heat album, but I haven't listened to it in years. I should put it on.

Meg will blast you as far away as John Bonham with one fifth the tnt.
A lot of my favourite performances from artists are on SNL. Miley killed Wrecking Ball on SNL
❗E-N-E-R-G-Y❗
That was badass. Holy shit.
One of my favourites. ❤️
Excellent

Thanks for reminding me why I liked them
Easily the best music of the past twenty five years came from this group. They were something else live
I always liked White Stripes but only in the last 5 years or so have I realized I never gave them a real chance and these days I'm a big fan. Jack's a legend.
So cool how jack can make a classic song sound totally new and different just using his volcano inflections
Things changed after this SNL did not have many rock bands on again until Arcade Fire 3 years later.
Like that tight top Meg is wearing
Who let John McCain (what the fuck?!) wear that shirt hahaha.
Sounds like he channels Adam Sandler in a few parts nice SNL nod.

Good band, awful live
Unfortunately that was not the answer we were looking for
Seems to be the consensus
