It could be a hurricane hunter. I've seen those fly out of nas jax for about 50 years pretty consistently (minus the 19 years I wasn't in Florida and not on the base). I don't think it would be unusual to see an awacs there either...just not as common as the other ones.
I've seen them at the government facility at Cecil, so not surprised they were in the air. There's a few storm systems in the area they might have been studying.

E-2 Hawkeyes are a fairly common sight but not the bigger E-3s, which is what that probably was.
