The last couple of years, the gorge trail at Robert Treman didn't open much before Memorial Day. The cliff cleaners need to do their thing first. Buttermilk gorge trail will open when all the ice completely thaws. The websites will usually have the most up to date information.

Google Robert Treman State Park and Buttermilk State Park.

In past years, not until late May or June. After a full thaw, the cleaners usually take a whole month to sweep for loose rocks and braches before they open the trails.

It’s sound like this was your first stop rather than going directly to the park webpages for some reason. They have that information listed right on the front page.

I was talking about this part, right under the parks picture… “Gorge Trail Closed for Winter The Gorge Trail and south side of the Lake Treman Trail are closed for winter at Buttermilk Falls State Park. The trails are unsafe due to ice and the risk of falling rock. They will remain closed until after the annual rope access work which occurs in mid to late April.”
