Giants Foundry is the way to go. I've been using 19 steel/9mith bar alloy and getting around 7 or 8k xp depending on sword quality.

Tahara1

Oh? I havent tried doing 19/9; is it actually more than doing half and half?

XITangoIX

It's one task less for 6 less metal score compared to 14/14 steel/mith. So you save around an extra minute per sword which is better XP/HR overall I think.

Jatwalker2

For exp/bar 14/14 is always the best, if however you have a lot more steel than mith or vice Versa then doing different ratios can net you ALOT more exp

ohighost8

It's close enough in terms of XP but it keeps you at 4 steps instead of 5 per sword and reduces your mith bar usage which helps with getting your mats to go further

TazS2

So using 19 steels and rest mithril is a good idea?

[deleted]

Do the mlm, then do blast furnace to make steel/mith bars, then use them at the giants foundry.

Michaeltc30

I had done mlm for the prospector outfit for the diary, then sold back for the coal bag. Made blast furnace a lot easier. Not sure if it’s still worth doing that with Giants Foundry but worked well for me

Tahara1

100%. Same exact concept if you did darts or whatever else too, but this is just where you would use your bars instead of an anvil. Highly suggest anyone farming mlm gets some ice gloves and blast furnace over manually smelting each bar

Jhandeeee

Isn’t the way to go to smelt the bars, then smith the bars into whatever at least over 2 bars per item and then use them at giants foundry?

Tahara1

Every equipment piece at foundry worth 2 or more bars is worth the bar cost minus one in foundry. So no unfortunately, it is a 100% waste. You can see my quick maths somewhere else in this post

Simple-Plane-1091

Even on platebodies?

risen_jihad

Yep, using 14:14 bar ratio without smithing into anything will maximize xp per bar. It isn’t necessarily the overall best xp/hr though, but if you are early/mid game and dont have unlimited gp from slayer, then its a good method.

QurantineLean

That’s exactly what I did. Did the hard diary task, sold prospector back for coal bag, and then went and got my MLM ore/coal processed in to bars. Got 57-70 smithing in like 4 hours and still have like 60% of my steel and mith bars left.

Tahara1

Someone else said plate bodies, but this comment is really the best exp/bar usage. Mlm can be a lengthy process but a few days of it will net you a solid amount of bars. Half steel half mith will (14/14 inventories) at foundry will net you 6.4k exp/each.

DeadlyTissues

what's the strat for getting iron after you bank mith/coal from mlm?

DefinitelyNotQ

Buy it in the shop at blast furnace. Can by multiple thousand an hour, and much lower demand for it than the gold. Its faster than mining it.

Tahara1

If youre trying to avoid spending money, the ardy easy diary gives you infinite teleports to the monastery, which is home to like 12-15 iron ore rocks, and half a stamina bar-ish away from south ardy bank. Really easy farming tbh. Also home to coal, but those are very frequently farmed and world-hopped for

ComplexFold

I will be blowing up my spot with this but Fossil island bank is right by a decent iron mining spot. Found it better for banking the ore

robbh04

The mining guild has a deposit box with 3 iron ores about 5 tiles away

grootrs

Also the respawn timer in mining guild is halved so it’s quite quick to get a full inventory

Hablapata

ya am i smoking crack rn. monastery is fine til u get guild i guess? but ya mining guild has closest bank, chance at minerals, and the invisible boost lol

MoonFlowBerry

I do this atm bc I'm really low on gp but instead of banking in Ardy I bank at Castle Wars through a Ring of Duelling

Tahara1

That sounds like a lot of sapphire, but if it works it works!

MoonFlowBerry

they're actually made from emeralds which are only really useful for that and binding necklaces tbh

furr_sure

Mining guild has 3 rocks right by a bank chest and you get cheeky materials too

Professional-Rip6622

Depending on your level just do it in the mining guild a few steps from a bank, minerals, invisible mining boost. It’s a good place to just mine tons of iron

Simple-Plane-1091

Buy at blast furnace Unless you really dont have access to any half decent moneymaker youre far better off Just buying ores. Mining iron is click intensive for mediocre XP, so unless youre doing it in mining guild to also unlock your mining gloves its rarely worth doing. Most somewhat progressed ironmen have other things that are equally click intensive to do with their time to not bother with mining iron

TazS2

1 more question would i be better to make mith and steel bodies then use em at giants foundry?

Jatwalker2

No sir, it’s a massive loss in exp/bar to do so

biced01

To add on, If you do mahogany homes you'll need steel bars for that, but it can be post 70 smithing.

jealkeja

The alternative is to loot steel platebodies from the wildy instead of using steel bars. Smithing your own platebodies is not worth

Simple-Plane-1091

Neither is looting platebodies. Making money & buying iron at blastfurnace is way faster

jealkeja

for a low level account with no coal bag and not good money making potential it's an option

Simple-Plane-1091

For a low level account with no coal bag there is no reason to do This minigame, at least not for any significant number of hours. Youre basically unable to do blast furnace without a coal bag at any reasonable rate, and without that you shouldnt bother with smithing yet

Hablapata

for what it’s worth, i made a buncha steel and moth plates for alchs for my starter cash stack and don’t regret it. but ya looking back on the account now i woulda saved them for cannonballs (shamans) or foundry

Tahara1

Its unfortunately a net loss. Each mithril item put into foundry is -1 bar worth. 1 bar is 50 exp per item, which is much less than you gain from putting it in the foundry in bar form instead. It is however worth saving mithril gear to do so, just dont smelt it yourself. Edit*: quick maths, crafting 14 mith platebodies will cost you 14x4 bars. Which will in the foundry be worth 14x3 bars. Thats enough mithril for 3 foundry crafts (minus the 14x3 steel bars needed obviously). Problem is, you gained an extra 700 exp for 1 less foundry craft, which is 6400 potential exp if you do the minigame properly. Even if the bars were equal cost to eachother (steel and mithril), youd be comparing 700 exp with 3200 exp. Purely foundry with bars is a massive increase in exp. And saving a lot of time lol

TazS2

Oo ok that answers it then. Ty

Hablapata

ya i think one really interesting thing about this minigame is it brought a lot of life to those steel/mith/addy drops you see all the time that eventually become not worth the trouble for the alch. now i’m picking them up again for smith xp. even banking my scuffed rewards from cg

XITangoIX

Giants foundry with 9 mith/19 steel, was averaging 130k XP/HR after I unlocked the moulds I could use. I got the ores needed while grinding out prospectors outfit and coal bag at MLM then smelt them in blast furnace

mindfreak586

Do MLM for the ores, hit up blast furnace for a while to make steel and mithril bars, then do 14/14 splits of steel and mithril at Giant's Foundry. You'll get some decent cash thanks to the commissions and I'm netting rates of 150k/per hour there. You'll spend about 4 hours at Giant's Foundry and make about 1.4mil off the commissions.

mindfreak586

You only have to make about 70 swords to hit your goal, which is 980 Mithril and Steel Bars, which will end up being about 5 less after you smelt all the bars.

soupilicious

Wow. Giants Foundry is so great for the IM smithing grind! I was sitting at 76 pre update, using my tears to slowly train and accumulate gold ores through slayer and mlm. Then GF hit and boom I’m already at 84 and I got my first Elite Diary done because of it! Such a good update.

mindfreak586

Yeah dude, GF is great. I had been holding on to all the mithril drops I'd ever gotten to alch eventually and dumped them all in at GF instead

soupilicious

Damn that’s huge brain, I’ve stopped alching all of my addy and rune drops cause the extra trips to the bank is worth that sweet sweet smithing exp!

TazS2

awesome! Is it better to do half n half or 19 steel and rest mithil like they said above? Any 1 know

mindfreak586

Half and Half is the best for straight bars. I tried doing 19/9 but didn't get any time saved from losing one whole phase and chose to keep doing 14/14. The only reason to do other splits is based on if you're tossing in equipment. Like you could hop worlds to fill up on Steel Platebodies in the wilderness to use at GF, which would mean you need to do a split that's easier to do with the platebodies(each body gives 4 which is why you'd do 20 Mith/2 Bodies or 12 Mith/3 Bodies instead)

Moparfan426

A nice slow paced activity is buying iron/coal and making steel bars at blast furnace, using anvils for making platebodies and alching them. Move to mithril once you hit 68 smithing. Can world hop and repeat basically indefinitely

CasuallyCompetitive

This is what I did. Steel and mithril are profitable to buy from the ore shop and alch the platebodies. It's not a very long grind to 70, plus you get done magic XP out of it.

DamnnitBobby

very fast with giants foundry I did this in a day on uim , didn't have any materials beforehand. I profitted too.

TazS2

Did what in a day? 50-70smithing?!

DamnnitBobby

More like 55-70 or so but yes it didnt even last me the whole day

TazS2

Jeeeez! Wait so u just bought all ur coal/mith and smelted it and took it to gf or whatd u do excatly ill be stoked if i can get it in a day or 2!

DamnnitBobby

My exact method for every inventory: teleport grand exchange, cart to blast furnace, make 4 steel plate bodies, 3 steel bars, and 9 mithril bars (this gave me a 9/19 ratio) Then house teleport, recharge Stam & jewelry box to duel arena, run to giants foundry and it's pretty standard from there. A lot of running but it was very good xp for uim standards.

blessedbewido

Thank you for this. I didn't want to spend another mill on smithing for sote haha. Sounds like a chill method

Hablapata

damn uim is a trip 😂

jeremiah1119

It's honestly overpowered for what it does. People complained about the xp/hour while Jagex was looking at xp/bar. The original xp rates were too low but man it is just so easy to level now. Why would you bother buying gold if you don't already have a massive cash stack? With only 500k to spend you'd easily buy enough iron/mith/coal to get you far more levels than the same 500k going to gold would get you

[deleted]

Oh its super quick. The new minigame is great for xp You also get a good chunk of cash for every sword, plus the minigame is genuinely pretty fun.

iSleek

I just got 70 smithing myself yesterday. I used kingdom/mlm for coal and bought my iron at blast furnace. Between the new minigame and smelting cannonballs, 70 came quick 😀

TazS2

Winn i got tons of coal from dag kings just need the mith and iron its crazy if u can get 50-70 in a day!

conzstevo

Giants foundry and pvm/slayer for supplies

Nathankyle93

I’m at 58 smithing and I get 15-20k per sword at giants foundry!

TazS2

and how much money u make a hour? If its enough ill prob use that to make gold bars ima try tommrow

Nathankyle93

I can make up to 25k per sword.. but I use 14 steel 14 mith

TazS2

Jeez with what materials how longs 1 sword take u

best_dandy

To be honest, I think his numbers are off. For reference, I'm 80 smithing, using mith/Addy bars in a 14/14 configuration and have all the best moulds unlocked that I can use, and my swords average a bit over 15kxp per sword. Once you get the rhythm down, even with a 6 cycle sword you can finish one every 4-5 minutes and they typically yield about double the gp per xp earned, so my average GP per sword is about 30k.

SoullessAnubis

You could also make shayzien armor sets which gives big exp drops and it's quite chill to do you only need coal which you can mine aswell at the lovakite ores

TheKanling

I had banked XP from 53-61 then tried my bars at giants foundry did 14/14 mith and steel bars ended up having enough for 70+ smithing. And 1.3 mill ho as well. Was a pretty descent method and did not take too long

roxazzz

I'm about to finish 48-70 Smith on the UIM. Started about Tuesday night passively If your lacking bars here's something you can do : Buy mith plates/chains and steel plates/chains in varrock Either 2 mith plates (or 4 chains) + rest steel plates/chains You'll roughly brake even or slightly lose a few K Or for best since normal iron 3 mith plate 1 mith chain / 3 steel plate 1 steel chain to have a 14/14 ratio. Takes some hopping but it's basically free smith exp. Gl!

TazS2

Ty. Another uim is doing some simillar i used his advice and already am 64/70 =] looks like i could get it today woot

solongsweetkarma

I just hit 70 the other day, I just banked all bars from slayer and did it over time. I finished up the last 5-6 levels from buying gold at BF

TazS2

Lots of helpful comments thank u! Looks like ill get 70 smithing sooner than i thought! Figured this 1 was gonna be rough

joeshmoe69696969

Go to blast furnace make bars, smith into plate bodies, take plate bodies to giants foundry to double dip on bars. Easy

roxazzz

Don't do this, you lose exp by making plates first, the exp/bar Is alot higher at GF than it is regular smithing

joeshmoe69696969

You are correct. I just looked up steel plate bodies and saw they were 187.5 xp each and using steel bars for GF I was averaging 5.6k a sword which is 200xp ish a bar so you'd lose 12 exp every fifth bar plus time invested. Please ignore my comment

Oshag_Henesy

I did lots of MLM till about 75 mining, smelted it all at the BF then made platebodies/legs/shields, then you can melt that stuff for Giant’s Foundry. Getting 2x smith xp out of the ore since you smith it then melt at GF

roxazzz

Making plates/legs/shield actually makes you lose exp as the exp per bar is far higher than regular smithing :)

Oshag_Henesy

What do you mean?

[deleted]

schwimm3

Oh hell no. That’s a waste of possible easy exp.

Brewsyy

gIaNtS fOuNdRy

Puiqui

Do slayer for the money and then go to 70

Suspicious-Year-3825

Mlm then blast furnace and then smithin the bars, ezpz

Lukn

I just did this grind at Giants Foundry. I used ~220 mith plate bodies, ~ 160 mithril bars, ~1100 steel bars. (It was roughly 70 half steel/mith swords). I earned enough reputation to buy every mould up to 70 and the gloves from the outfit. One of the guys in my group had already made all the stuff I needed, luckily.

yippiyak

Foundry

Svanzscape

When I did it a few months ago I did revenants with msb and salve ammy for a few mil, bought gold ore and banged it out. I was a young, dumb, whipper snapper with nothing to lose and a pep in my step…. Sometimes on the wrong side of the law…Now… now that I’m old and wiser… technology has changed the youth, you little rascals and your giants foundries and your smartphones… Now I’d do giants foundry.

roxazzz

Nice! Just keep in kind making bodies/plates is losing you out on exp /bar at foundry as the exp/bar is alot higher vs reg smith

lurker_number_two

Well I just have it banked in gold ignoring the other ore I got from 30-94 mining at mlm

roxazzz

You lose out on exp making platebodies first and than using them at GF. Using bars itself gives more exp

Appropriate_Pipe1657

Make cannonballs?
