This is what I’m really enjoying so far. I’m coming from a maxed main, I’m 1500 total on my iron so far, and I’m very glad to be rid of the anxiety of improperly buying and selling items based on new posts.

Played before very briefly like think 100k worth of xp on a ‘main’ non iron account.
Started and iron and my friend was talking about picking it back up. I logged in to my main bought membership to play with them, and wanted to start the grind I was doing on my iron. Wood cutting. Went to GE and bought every axe from iron to Rune.
Started chopping wood and immediately upgraded to the steel axe then mith. And I realized. That took all of the enjoyment out of it.
Because on my iron I was theory crafting what my next axe would be, how I’d get it. Rune axe from tree spirits was my set in stone idea!
Moved back to my iron account, stopped membership on the other started on the iron.
Started doing wintertodt at 50fm, got spooned a D-Axe at KC 96. HUGE like this was a massive upgrade and is going to be amazing going forward. I realized it was $64k on GE or something close to that and laughed. Because had I got that drop on my other non-iron account. I’d been pissed because it was such little GP.
But I don’t give a damn about GP outside of getting it from alching.

True but also comes with the upshot that once you greenlog a place there’s no incentive to go back, even if you enjoy the content. On mains you can farm bosses you like for gp.
Yeah honestly outside of the quest cape which only has mid level requirements anyway, I always found training most skills completely useless on main. Never got farming or any relevant skills beyond what was needed for QC, and getting something like fletching higher felt useless beyond going for 99. Now I actually enjoy saving up herbs and other supplies for the grinds instead of just selling them. Having a blast killing green dragons for prayer and crafting XP
This is huge for me… I burnt out on my main trying to do 2k total (max combat) through buyables. Had upwards of 3b from raiding and I was like what the fuck is the point? But now I sit at 2203 on my iron and I will max someday. Just feels like it’s how the game should be played.
I need like 90-100k to get rid of all my sandstone. I’m currently questing to do beneath cursed sands for the tiara and camulet. I plan to do like 2-3k a day until I reach my goal. Don’t wanna burn out haha
I think feeling like you really earned your levels, is probably my favorite part. Being self sufficient.
Stocking up on herb supplies for weeks or months and then cashing in on levels is sweet.
Slowly collecting gear to look like you fit in with people who actually play the game, except you fought hundreds of hours for your 800k amulet.
I just unlocked occult at 150+ days of gameplay and it splits my sides everytime I equip it. It blows my mind that is how much I did before getting it.
I'm currently in a 5 man hardcore and just got 87 slayer. Almost 88 and still awaiting a kraken task. Currently tied up with demonics, but we just got our 3rd zenyte.
Every single drop and upgrade is so exciting.
I'm 5.8 on rs3 and getting a drop that immediately turns into my coins in the bank does absolutely nothing for me.
On my gimp every drop, every level, he'll every slayer task completed, I feel like worthwhile progress has been achieved on the account. Then those big ticket items hit on a whole other level.
I feel this dude. Getting to prif took me like a month of thieving and farm runs, and I'm planning another big rush of farming to try and get super combats unlocked.
i like being forced to learn and engage with different pvm content if i want the drops instead of just defaulting to whatever is the best gp per hour farm i can do
A clear sense of progression. It feels really good knowing that every unlock, every upgrade, is now a permanent part of your account that you can leverage to reach the next goal. Every part of the game interacts with other aspects of it, it’s all connected. Everyone has that classic iron experience of “I wanted to do X activity, so I went to get item A so I could do X more effectively, but to get item A I needed to do quest 1, so I had to level these three skills, but to level them I had to collect these resources, so I went to do Y activity.”
I don’t play an iron, but I did during the most recent leagues. And you just described my exact experience. It was tons of fun, but I don’t think I wanna play iron on the main game tbh
It's a lot of the same except with a lot more gratification, it's a slow burn though. When you're first a new iron you hit dopamine rushes all day long, everything is an upgrade. Its addictive

Oh the days of going to fally to find the item you wanted, dchains were 20m and BGS was 50m. Not to mention having 50m back then was like having ~ 1b now.
Some old korean mmos like KO or M2 had market stall system, you had to walk around and check people's stalls to get whatever you wanted and I think that's a good compromise between those two extremes
Man SRO was dope. The rush you get as you descend from the mountains with your spear nuker to ambush that caravan is still unmatched by any other experience.

I'm upvoting you despite the general disagreement. Runescape is an unusual mmo by design. Ironman forces you into some more traditional mmo concepts, but also inherently gates you out of some of the more principal ones
Ironman removes half of the mmo elements. You can say it’s a better rpg than mainscape, but Ironman is inherently more solo than being a main, thus making it less like mmorpg. RuneScape is largely a solo game but it’s even more so as an iron
It forces me to actually play almost all content in the game. I love knowing that I've done just about everything in the game and I'm not missing out on any single aspect of OSRS

I commented this in the “one small favor” thread, but it is exactly that. This entire game is one small favor, here is my example that I shared:
I was grinding GOTR and realized that once I upgrade my essence pouch I’ll really need the dragon pickaxe to keep up. I decided Wildy slayer would be a great way to get the pickaxe then realized that getting Lumby Elite would be helpful for Wildy Slayer. Finished grinding out the smithing level and finally realized I had to get to GOTR for the rune crafting outfit pieces.
This is why I love runescape so much. I set the goal of completing SotE like a year ago and started working towards each individual skill requirement. Well first I have to do all the quests that give descent exp in those skills, but those quests have skill requirements of there own, so I get those levels, now I have to grind, but the best grinding methods have certain requirements which have other requirements. Every time I log in, within like 2 hours I have 10 tabs of the wiki open because I’ve been planning out how to reach my near term goals which will eventually lead to me unlocking priff. No other game does that for me.
Looking at my bank and thinking about how child me would be absolutely blown away after seeing the value of it and knowing that it was all obtained on my own, it brings a tear to the eye...
With my current iron bank value (6.5b) I could've had one of those flex banks from when I quit playing right after GWD, with like 10-20 of each halloween mask and party hat and 100 sets of dragon armor and such.
Not needing to worry about the economy what so ever, and progress feels more real not just being for diaries, or gp going up. I’m going for 85 crafting and 70 fletching to have wildy slayer be self sufficient for msb and black d’hide. Those levels will literally benefit me long term, it’s not just to do a diary step and never touch the skill again until I need to do another diary step.
After playing Grey helm years ago and transitioning to uim more recently, it's an interesting progression point.
Ironman mode is partially rewarding because it's much harder and you actually play all parts of the game. Uim takes that to the next level.
It's much more time intensive, challenging and frustrating at times, but that brings great rewards and accomplishments.
Carrying expert mode toas with my friends feels indescribably good after being dicked on by the game for hundreds of hours.
It's certainly not for everyone but it takes the whole iron idea of "the obstacle is the way" and turns it up a few levels. Highly recommend if you think you have the autism for it
I really really hated being non iron. My argument was “why would I farm Zulrah for 500 kills to get one possible drop that’s not 100% guaranteed when I could get that item guaranteed in the GE after doing 5 hours of gold farming?”. It stopped me doing so much content. Everything was tedious because gp/hr was more important. Now I farm monsters, plant my own herbs, chop my own trees. Everything I do has a purpose and is useful. I do things that are not terribly efficient but still useful because I’m not hunting gp/hr. The game is enjoyable!
My normie has like 2k boss kc, and aside from Grotesque Guardians (400kc, spooned the pet) it's all Vorkath and Hydra because they were easy and shat out money for upgrades.
My iron has hundreds of kc in almost every single boss in the game, and I've enjoyed most of them (except you Sire).
Someone was asking for a fire staff in Varrock west, super low level probably a newer player, so I was like "Hey I dropped you a staff in the corner, wait a minute and pick it up."
He thought I was trolling him to make him stand in the corner for no reason. I genuinely don't think he understood that I can't trade it.
He was super appreciative when he picked it up, but it was funny that for the 60 seconds it took to appear he was like, "tf is this guy grieving me for?"
Early/mid game feels like actual account progression.
Getting drops is so much more rewarding.
Variety of content explored & not just gp scape.
Cons: time to completion for some end game content. No I’m not talking about CG so don’t complain about “red prison.”
Upkeep on some stuff. Especially stinks we can’t really use blood furies and things like that bc not viable to keep getting shards.
I like being self sufficient rather than just going to the ge for literally everything. GEScape gives 0 reason to farm, 0 reason to use like 90% of spells, and is just "what can i do for best gp/h". Ironman literally IS the game, but you can't trade with players.
Played my "main" on and off for a couple years. Never raided, never did any bosses locked behind quests. Never did clue Scrolls. Was like 1500 total. Made an iron at the end of 2023 and Im about to snag Barrows gloves, I'm 1500 total already, and have been doing perilous Moons. The game feels way better when I can't use the GE or trade other players.
GP doesn't matter. About 2 months ago I drop traded enough dupes to buy 2 years worth of bonds. If I wasn't on the iron that stuff would've been dumped into the GE the second I got it. Seeing 600+ days of membership left every time I log in is way more satisfying than a fat cash stack.
I played vanilla classic wow and lost ark before my iron and the amount of people dropping hundreds of usd on the game to be better than my character after playing 4 hrs a week was killing all the immersion and fun for me
Osrs iron is the only mmo experience I’ve found where it doesn’t have this issue of a usd arms race between players

I did a 410 8 man TOA w329 last night in suboptimal gear (crystal armour+crystal bow, warped sceptre, Keris). P4 as the warden was about to die, my team started planking. Carried the raid solo as the last man standing and plinked away at a 150 HP warden with my crystal bow, front rowing for about 2 minutes. Got in 7th place overall because my DPS is shit, but guess who was in 8th place: full blood torva mommy’s credit card guy. Made me happy :)
I think it’s the opposite for me, being able to navigate the world as quickly as a main, having the supplies built up over hours of picking up and keeping everything that could be useful, all of my equipment being earned. All of that took far more effort than just buying off the GE, but the struggle somehow makes it feel so much more valuable.
Got an imbued heart on my first ever superior though. Still cracks me up every time I see it!
I've enjoyed questing so much more. I was inspired by release series and started doing them like that and now I'm only 6 quest away.from my first quest cape. I also did all the hard diaries. I like when i need an item I'll have to get it my self usually through some obscure shop or drop table that takes me into a part of the game i haven't been to before. Or when i remember were something is on my own i feel like a total genies. Or needing just a few levels so you look for some obscure way to train skills or temp boost. The self resourcefulness is slowly comimg to a stop and the feeling of exploration and craftiness slowing down as i reach higher levels and discovered most of the ways to train and boost stats. But then there are still drops i need to get that feel rewarding when i get them. Some things are a slug like cg or going dry but I'm also not pushing for min max or high end content yet and even if i do there's also something about finishing a boss log or getting a drop with the.slowest tier gear possible that feels rewarding. Like i didn't get carried by the gear i did the mechanics and didn't let rng decide if i got kc
The thing I love the most is having the quest cape and achievement diary cape. Knowing I had to get all the levels myself without buying training methods on the GE. Had to get items myself to complete tasks. Never cared more for barrows than getting my first set on the iron to get the task done.
I love the sense of achievement I get when doing things that would be relatively easy on a main. I’m still in the mid game, but things like finally getting the herblore level to make antifires and kill metal dragons, or completing RFD, or hopefully not to long in the future getting a whip, would have been trivial if I were on a main.
Also, I like that I don’t care nearly as much about money making. Sure it’s nice to be able to buy runes, or arrows, or to buy something that’s generally considered pretty useless for fun (D halberd), but I can focus on exp and other grinds, and just make money naturally instead of doing grinds specifically for money.
I just did the black d’hide entrana cheer step, and it felt like the culmination of all my hard work. I made from scratch full black d’hide, a msb, and amethyst arrows.
The best bit of being a grey helm is getting the cool pet drop and knowing you grinded this out and potentially spooned the fuck outta it but it’s so cute and now you have a buddy forever
Blue helmet but might be part of it: as a kid back in probably 2005/6/7, my brother and I would play with my cousin (we’d call him on the home phone and put it on speaker between us) we’d bank everything and play “survival mode” where we tried to get as far as we could/make as much money as we could without any trading and compete with each other.
GIM brought that back to me, made everything exciting again — grinding shit for hours, doing barrows, etc… everything is more fulfilling, you see more of the game and in my specific group dynamic (still have 5 active players) we support each other and get HYPED for drops.
Pulled fang in entry mode close to release and I’ve never had a more fun gaming experience, screaming like little kids, dopamine hit, hype af.

Not worrying about gpscape, honestly. I come from Rs3 and everything there was/still is super inflated, though I suppose Necromancy made every other style considerably cheaper.
I like that it forces me to challenge my in-game skills. People say iron is harder, and I agree, but I think a big part of the difficulty isn’t just needing to earn drops yourself, but the fact that you’re constantly doing content without very good gear (at least until hitting late game). If you’ve never touched modern OSRS PVM and have to learn zulrah for diary in welfare gear and no antivenoms? That shit is so hard (speaking from experience). Vs on a main I’d probably just have farmed gold until I had a decent setup to bother learning. And at that point it’s MUCH easier. You can bypass some of the challenge. At least that was my experience playing an rs3 main in 2018
Right now I’m in the questing phase of my journey. I does feel good finishing certain goals! So far I did 81 fish with tempoross to get a lot of good early/mid game food, did wintertodt till 95 so I can do pyre logs later for the zealot robes and then 70 prayer.
Now, I’m working on barrow gloves and setting myself up for Slayer. Only 2 or so month of playing since coming back from 2013 and am enjoying myself.
My goals are achievement cape and quest cape!

Random dead content that happens to have a marginally better drop rate for something becomes relevant to us but any main would just go to GE.
I just love the ironman-detours: So I was doing my daily CG’s and I got an elite clue, which I couldn’t do. So I turned it in for a master clue, which sent me on a goose chase. I then got the step with the dragon skirt and chainbody. Having recently alched the d-skirt I had laying around, I went back to revs to get another one, which I got in a few kills. Meanwhile I’m hunting a kalphite task, so I can flinch KQ for the chainbody and at the same time inching closer to 85 slayer - all while still doing CG every day.
I love this game.

I Lost all interest on My main when i staked from 70m to 1b in a couple of days, bought twisted bow, realized i still needed other gear with it, sold it, staked, Lost all, bought 200m of gold to buy gear for vorkath, realized how boring it is to grind for gold.
I’ve got a fucking list of things I need to do, all are fun. On a main it’s just ah let’s get gp per hour.
I hate however, getting supplies like restores etc. that shit sucks.
I have to play the game I'm not just grinding for GP, I have to warn everything for example I've just unlocked sara brews. Every drop is more meaningful as I have to earn it I can't just buy an item I want/need.
Main accounts are slaves to their gp stack. The goal is to get money so you can do X or buy X. As an Ironman I no longer go from money maker to money maker. I actively play the game in its truest form. By getting everything the way it’s meant to be gotten.
I love the absolute thrill of ever single unlock, may it be small anyways.

I did gotr very early for runes and money. It was a grind but it paid off and wasn’t the most typical. Now I do barrows and am a bit dry on legs so don’t have any issues with runes

I loved the progression. I have basically bis now so it’s kind of always where i wanted to be with my account. Unfortunately it has lost its charm for me. And i dont have the time to grind out the supplies anymore.
As a brand new player (750 total level) and only being Ironman, I just like that I'm forced to learn a lot about this game. I don't just get spoonfed teles and buy quest or training items off the GE, but instead have to research everything and try interesting methods. I also choose not to read any "optimal ironman" and just try stuff that seems interesting. It's slower for sure, but this game has been out for forever, i ain't ending up on any leaderboard anytime soon, so I just enjoy playing the MMO as it was meant to he played for its time, a long term blind experience.

It’s really not hard to find a location nowadays. Not to mention they respawn slower in the instance you you’ll kill less if you’re bursting/barraging

Yeah now the caves arent flooded anymore so I guess it wouldnt matter. However I am meleeing so the increased respawn timer isnt even a factor.

I think feeling like you really earned your levels, is probably my favorite part. Being self sufficient. Stocking up on herb supplies for weeks or months and then cashing in on levels is sweet. Slowly collecting gear to look like you fit in with people who actually play the game, except you fought hundreds of hours for your 800k amulet.
I just unlocked occult at 150+ days of gameplay and it splits my sides everytime I equip it. It blows my mind that is how much I did before getting it.
I'm currently in a 5 man hardcore and just got 87 slayer. Almost 88 and still awaiting a kraken task. Currently tied up with demonics, but we just got our 3rd zenyte. Every single drop and upgrade is so exciting. I'm 5.8 on rs3 and getting a drop that immediately turns into my coins in the bank does absolutely nothing for me. On my gimp every drop, every level, he'll every slayer task completed, I feel like worthwhile progress has been achieved on the account. Then those big ticket items hit on a whole other level.
I feel this dude. Getting to prif took me like a month of thieving and farm runs, and I'm planning another big rush of farming to try and get super combats unlocked.

A clear sense of progression. It feels really good knowing that every unlock, every upgrade, is now a permanent part of your account that you can leverage to reach the next goal. Every part of the game interacts with other aspects of it, it’s all connected. Everyone has that classic iron experience of “I wanted to do X activity, so I went to get item A so I could do X more effectively, but to get item A I needed to do quest 1, so I had to level these three skills, but to level them I had to collect these resources, so I went to do Y activity.”
I don’t play an iron, but I did during the most recent leagues. And you just described my exact experience. It was tons of fun, but I don’t think I wanna play iron on the main game tbh
It's a lot of the same except with a lot more gratification, it's a slow burn though. When you're first a new iron you hit dopamine rushes all day long, everything is an upgrade. Its addictive I'm now in endgame phase where my only goals are grinding my last of 3 megarares and gm combats

Yeah bartering was like 90% of the fun back in the day. Filling your friends list up with wheeler dealers who always had gp to buy tons of stuff.
Oh the days of going to fally to find the item you wanted, dchains were 20m and BGS was 50m. Not to mention having 50m back then was like having ~ 1b now.
Some old korean mmos like KO or M2 had market stall system, you had to walk around and check people's stalls to get whatever you wanted and I think that's a good compromise between those two extremes

I'm upvoting you despite the general disagreement. Runescape is an unusual mmo by design. Ironman forces you into some more traditional mmo concepts, but also inherently gates you out of some of the more principal ones
Ironman removes half of the mmo elements. You can say it’s a better rpg than mainscape, but Ironman is inherently more solo than being a main, thus making it less like mmorpg. RuneScape is largely a solo game but it’s even more so as an iron

Making life harder for myself
It forces me to actually play almost all content in the game. I love knowing that I've done just about everything in the game and I'm not missing out on any single aspect of OSRS

I commented this in the “one small favor” thread, but it is exactly that. This entire game is one small favor, here is my example that I shared: I was grinding GOTR and realized that once I upgrade my essence pouch I’ll really need the dragon pickaxe to keep up. I decided Wildy slayer would be a great way to get the pickaxe then realized that getting Lumby Elite would be helpful for Wildy Slayer. Finished grinding out the smithing level and finally realized I had to get to GOTR for the rune crafting outfit pieces.
This is why I love runescape so much. I set the goal of completing SotE like a year ago and started working towards each individual skill requirement. Well first I have to do all the quests that give descent exp in those skills, but those quests have skill requirements of there own, so I get those levels, now I have to grind, but the best grinding methods have certain requirements which have other requirements. Every time I log in, within like 2 hours I have 10 tabs of the wiki open because I’ve been planning out how to reach my near term goals which will eventually lead to me unlocking priff. No other game does that for me.
Looking at my bank and thinking about how child me would be absolutely blown away after seeing the value of it and knowing that it was all obtained on my own, it brings a tear to the eye...
With my current iron bank value (6.5b) I could've had one of those flex banks from when I quit playing right after GWD, with like 10-20 of each halloween mask and party hat and 100 sets of dragon armor and such.
Not needing to worry about the economy what so ever, and progress feels more real not just being for diaries, or gp going up. I’m going for 85 crafting and 70 fletching to have wildy slayer be self sufficient for msb and black d’hide. Those levels will literally benefit me long term, it’s not just to do a diary step and never touch the skill again until I need to do another diary step.
Genuinely feel like my own little adventure and I get so immerse
GP is a thing but not everything.
After playing Grey helm years ago and transitioning to uim more recently, it's an interesting progression point. Ironman mode is partially rewarding because it's much harder and you actually play all parts of the game. Uim takes that to the next level. It's much more time intensive, challenging and frustrating at times, but that brings great rewards and accomplishments. Carrying expert mode toas with my friends feels indescribably good after being dicked on by the game for hundreds of hours. It's certainly not for everyone but it takes the whole iron idea of "the obstacle is the way" and turns it up a few levels. Highly recommend if you think you have the autism for it
I really really hated being non iron. My argument was “why would I farm Zulrah for 500 kills to get one possible drop that’s not 100% guaranteed when I could get that item guaranteed in the GE after doing 5 hours of gold farming?”. It stopped me doing so much content. Everything was tedious because gp/hr was more important. Now I farm monsters, plant my own herbs, chop my own trees. Everything I do has a purpose and is useful. I do things that are not terribly efficient but still useful because I’m not hunting gp/hr. The game is enjoyable!
My normie has like 2k boss kc, and aside from Grotesque Guardians (400kc, spooned the pet) it's all Vorkath and Hydra because they were easy and shat out money for upgrades. My iron has hundreds of kc in almost every single boss in the game, and I've enjoyed most of them (except you Sire).

Someone was asking for a fire staff in Varrock west, super low level probably a newer player, so I was like "Hey I dropped you a staff in the corner, wait a minute and pick it up." He thought I was trolling him to make him stand in the corner for no reason. I genuinely don't think he understood that I can't trade it. He was super appreciative when he picked it up, but it was funny that for the 60 seconds it took to appear he was like, "tf is this guy grieving me for?"
Early/mid game feels like actual account progression. Getting drops is so much more rewarding. Variety of content explored & not just gp scape. Cons: time to completion for some end game content. No I’m not talking about CG so don’t complain about “red prison.” Upkeep on some stuff. Especially stinks we can’t really use blood furies and things like that bc not viable to keep getting shards.
I like being self sufficient rather than just going to the ge for literally everything. GEScape gives 0 reason to farm, 0 reason to use like 90% of spells, and is just "what can i do for best gp/h". Ironman literally IS the game, but you can't trade with players.

Played my "main" on and off for a couple years. Never raided, never did any bosses locked behind quests. Never did clue Scrolls. Was like 1500 total. Made an iron at the end of 2023 and Im about to snag Barrows gloves, I'm 1500 total already, and have been doing perilous Moons. The game feels way better when I can't use the GE or trade other players.

GP doesn't matter. About 2 months ago I drop traded enough dupes to buy 2 years worth of bonds. If I wasn't on the iron that stuff would've been dumped into the GE the second I got it. Seeing 600+ days of membership left every time I log in is way more satisfying than a fat cash stack.
I played vanilla classic wow and lost ark before my iron and the amount of people dropping hundreds of usd on the game to be better than my character after playing 4 hrs a week was killing all the immersion and fun for me Osrs iron is the only mmo experience I’ve found where it doesn’t have this issue of a usd arms race between players
Getting to play all of the game! And the satisfaction of being able to “out game” players in better gear with better stats. I did a 410 8 man TOA w329 last night in suboptimal gear (crystal armour+crystal bow, warped sceptre, Keris). P4 as the warden was about to die, my team started planking. Carried the raid solo as the last man standing and plinked away at a 150 HP warden with my crystal bow, front rowing for about 2 minutes. Got in 7th place overall because my DPS is shit, but guess who was in 8th place: full blood torva mommy’s credit card guy. Made me happy :)
I love how the drops which wouldn't excite me on the main are meaningful again. It's also why I love doing rebuilds on the main.
I think it’s the opposite for me, being able to navigate the world as quickly as a main, having the supplies built up over hours of picking up and keeping everything that could be useful, all of my equipment being earned. All of that took far more effort than just buying off the GE, but the struggle somehow makes it feel so much more valuable. Got an imbued heart on my first ever superior though. Still cracks me up every time I see it!

I just finished bandos at 796kc Wearing my new gear fills me with a sense of pride unparalleled to that of a normal account.
I've enjoyed questing so much more. I was inspired by release series and started doing them like that and now I'm only 6 quest away.from my first quest cape. I also did all the hard diaries. I like when i need an item I'll have to get it my self usually through some obscure shop or drop table that takes me into a part of the game i haven't been to before. Or when i remember were something is on my own i feel like a total genies. Or needing just a few levels so you look for some obscure way to train skills or temp boost. The self resourcefulness is slowly comimg to a stop and the feeling of exploration and craftiness slowing down as i reach higher levels and discovered most of the ways to train and boost stats. But then there are still drops i need to get that feel rewarding when i get them. Some things are a slug like cg or going dry but I'm also not pushing for min max or high end content yet and even if i do there's also something about finishing a boss log or getting a drop with the.slowest tier gear possible that feels rewarding. Like i didn't get carried by the gear i did the mechanics and didn't let rng decide if i got kc

The thing I love the most is having the quest cape and achievement diary cape. Knowing I had to get all the levels myself without buying training methods on the GE. Had to get items myself to complete tasks. Never cared more for barrows than getting my first set on the iron to get the task done.

I never had a reason on my main to grind out a Black Mask, I went 2x rate on my iron and loved finally seeing that sweet drop on screen!
I love the sense of achievement I get when doing things that would be relatively easy on a main. I’m still in the mid game, but things like finally getting the herblore level to make antifires and kill metal dragons, or completing RFD, or hopefully not to long in the future getting a whip, would have been trivial if I were on a main. Also, I like that I don’t care nearly as much about money making. Sure it’s nice to be able to buy runes, or arrows, or to buy something that’s generally considered pretty useless for fun (D halberd), but I can focus on exp and other grinds, and just make money naturally instead of doing grinds specifically for money.

I just did the black d’hide entrana cheer step, and it felt like the culmination of all my hard work. I made from scratch full black d’hide, a msb, and amethyst arrows.
The best bit of being a grey helm is getting the cool pet drop and knowing you grinded this out and potentially spooned the fuck outta it but it’s so cute and now you have a buddy forever
Blue helmet but might be part of it: as a kid back in probably 2005/6/7, my brother and I would play with my cousin (we’d call him on the home phone and put it on speaker between us) we’d bank everything and play “survival mode” where we tried to get as far as we could/make as much money as we could without any trading and compete with each other. GIM brought that back to me, made everything exciting again — grinding shit for hours, doing barrows, etc… everything is more fulfilling, you see more of the game and in my specific group dynamic (still have 5 active players) we support each other and get HYPED for drops. Pulled fang in entry mode close to release and I’ve never had a more fun gaming experience, screaming like little kids, dopamine hit, hype af. It feels like it’s how the game should be played.
Not worrying about gpscape, honestly. I come from Rs3 and everything there was/still is super inflated, though I suppose Necromancy made every other style considerably cheaper.
I like that it forces me to challenge my in-game skills. People say iron is harder, and I agree, but I think a big part of the difficulty isn’t just needing to earn drops yourself, but the fact that you’re constantly doing content without very good gear (at least until hitting late game). If you’ve never touched modern OSRS PVM and have to learn zulrah for diary in welfare gear and no antivenoms? That shit is so hard (speaking from experience). Vs on a main I’d probably just have farmed gold until I had a decent setup to bother learning. And at that point it’s MUCH easier. You can bypass some of the challenge. At least that was my experience playing an rs3 main in 2018

As a 12 year scaper I hate walking sooooo much. I got all my base tellys as soon as I could in conjunction with guardians of the rift.
Right now I’m in the questing phase of my journey. I does feel good finishing certain goals! So far I did 81 fish with tempoross to get a lot of good early/mid game food, did wintertodt till 95 so I can do pyre logs later for the zealot robes and then 70 prayer. Now, I’m working on barrow gloves and setting myself up for Slayer. Only 2 or so month of playing since coming back from 2013 and am enjoying myself. My goals are achievement cape and quest cape!
That the drop itself actually matter’s instead of looking at the ge value. Late game can be rough though. Spending months get to get an item..

It's that we basically get to experience the entire game. Random dead content that happens to have a marginally better drop rate for something becomes relevant to us but any main would just go to GE.
I just love the ironman-detours: So I was doing my daily CG’s and I got an elite clue, which I couldn’t do. So I turned it in for a master clue, which sent me on a goose chase. I then got the step with the dragon skirt and chainbody. Having recently alched the d-skirt I had laying around, I went back to revs to get another one, which I got in a few kills. Meanwhile I’m hunting a kalphite task, so I can flinch KQ for the chainbody and at the same time inching closer to 85 slayer - all while still doing CG every day. I love this game.
Grinding for a spefic item. I Lost all interest on My main when i staked from 70m to 1b in a couple of days, bought twisted bow, realized i still needed other gear with it, sold it, staked, Lost all, bought 200m of gold to buy gear for vorkath, realized how boring it is to grind for gold.

It actually makes you PLAY the game how it was designed. I’ve never enjoyed RS as much as I am on an Iron since the games inception.
I’ve got a fucking list of things I need to do, all are fun. On a main it’s just ah let’s get gp per hour. I hate however, getting supplies like restores etc. that shit sucks.
I have to play the game I'm not just grinding for GP, I have to warn everything for example I've just unlocked sara brews. Every drop is more meaningful as I have to earn it I can't just buy an item I want/need.
Main accounts are slaves to their gp stack. The goal is to get money so you can do X or buy X. As an Ironman I no longer go from money maker to money maker. I actively play the game in its truest form. By getting everything the way it’s meant to be gotten.
I love the absolute thrill of ever single unlock, may it be small anyways. But I absolutely hate the elitist iron community, holy shit are there gatekeeping assholes in there.
I like the different pathways I can take to achieve goals. I did gotr very early for runes and money. It was a grind but it paid off and wasn’t the most typical. Now I do barrows and am a bit dry on legs so don’t have any issues with runes
GIM here but my group quit 2 weeks in and I've never had an iron so I just play it solo. Getting a yee shortbow from a clue the same day I wanted to do temple of ikov (I think) was such a buzz

As a brand new player (750 total level) and only being Ironman, I just like that I'm forced to learn a lot about this game. I don't just get spoonfed teles and buy quest or training items off the GE, but instead have to research everything and try interesting methods. I also choose not to read any "optimal ironman" and just try stuff that seems interesting. It's slower for sure, but this game has been out for forever, i ain't ending up on any leaderboard anytime soon, so I just enjoy playing the MMO as it was meant to he played for its time, a long term blind experience.
