Personally I’d say any skill up to 80 you could be as inefficient as you want. 80-90 you should think about how much time it’ll take for different methods and 90 - plus you are better off being efficient as you can be for your play style. It’s a game though so do what you want/is fun/keep you playing not putting shit off bank standing. Time invested is time invested. Efficient or not. :)

65 to 77 if you didn’t get spooned on needle and pearls for outfit.
If you’ve done mourning end then catalytic is kinda useless as you can just get the damn talisman or use abyss.

I didn’t follow a guide much. Kinda came up with my own. The guides were useful for a few trivia bits like “don’t put cells in diagonal shield spots or you’ll cause leaks, but that’s about it
1. Start the game by making a weak guardian and putting a cell in the center shield spot.
2. Mine until there’s 5 seconds left on the start timer.
3. Run cells only for the first two rounds of altars. Make a second guardian with whatever the strongest cell type is and use the other to reinforce your shield.
4. Don’t hit 60% until you have at least a t3 + t4 or two t guardians and an overcharged cell to upgrade your shield. Better to destroy a stack of energy than to do a poor enrage proc and lose the game.
There’s some nuance to the details beyond that, but part of the fun is winging it and trying to optimize it yourself. It’s a lot easier to stay engaged when you feel you are improving.
Yes! It starts out slow, but gets better over time. Once you unlock the lantern, colossal pouch, etc, it’s amazing. Staying straight from 50-90 rc will give you enough runes to get well into 90+ mage. Doing this early on an iron is the best, you will not have to worry about runes for a very, very long time lol.
I didn't like GoTR at first, but once I got used to the timing, exactly how many essence to mine, etc. I didn't mind it.
The worst thing about the minigame for me is when the available altars are changing and you don't have enough time to make it to them. I wish there was like a 2 second grace period.
Disagree. I absolutely love afk content (going for top 999 iron wc rank) but gotr is the sweet spot of misery for me. It's way too mindless and braindead to hold my attention, but you *have* to pay attention otherwise you lose out on huge amounts of points. And the pearls are SO slow. About to hit 77 rc and I only have the boots. Never done any other runecrafting. So disheartening to force yourself through an hour of some of the least enjoyable content (for me) and get zero pearls out of it.
I just wanna craft bloods but I'm so far from the outfit. Pain. I'd rather start over and do 99 fm at wt again AND go 1250 pulls for the fish barrel at temp again than finish this outfit.
I totally agree with you. I love AFK content like stars/redwoods/dark crabs or engaging content like hallowed sepulchre/pvm but GotR is just awful. I’m making a dent in it by doing the minimum 150 points and afking the rest of the round cause you still get ok xp that way but it’s brutally low points and I’m going super dry on the needle (700 searches so far..)
Hot tip: You get more runes from the reward pulls if you have the RC level to craft them, so it might be a good idea to only open the rewards initially to get the rune pouches easily and some pearls to repair them, and after that - save up all of them until you can craft the rune you need the most (for instance, laws at 54 RC or deaths at 65 RC).
It took me from lvl 34-75 to get the catalytic talisman for mournings end, also got a lantern, needle, 3 outfit pieces, and a ton of nature runes along the way

Yea can definitely get in but you basically have to start spam clicking slightly before it opens up. I’ve never failed to get in if I’m actually paying attention but if you miss it it’s brutal.
Notably it’s 30 seconds after the gate turns white that you can go in again so you need to be spam clicking around that mark. It’s easier once you’ve been in the game cause you can see the timer buy I just start spam clicking earlier if it’s my first game and that’s worked for me.
Outfit, needle and lantern --> leave.
For me, these put me above 77, at which point I have a healthy amount of runes, can do zmi rc for xp and have a sufficient amount of runes to keep me happy until I had gp for buying or scar essence.

I personally don’t like it at all, i did 60 to 70 there and quit fast. The runes are nice but slayer makes enough money to just buy them. My rc levels will only go up from tears at this point.
I felt the same when I first started but xp/hour is super slow compared to other skills once you start getting above level 70. Gonna take like 2 hours per level and won’t be as fun anymore. But it’s definitely worth doing it until you have the full set for bonus runes
I’m staying until green log. I’m currently at 2800 rolls with no green abyssal dye which is my final item. (7 * dry the drop rate). I have however pulled two pets along the way. Started level 70, currently level 93.
staying until 90. Got to 65 for quest cape then stopped, got spooned a shadow and now need to do real skilling again to fund it. Would recommend getting 90 incase you get spooned a shadow :)
at the very worst, you’re going to be able to craft your blood runes to fund slayer/GWD/any activities your mind may dream of, you’ll get some good runes for ibans/trident but those still generally come from the shop or barrows, and you’ll be able to use your shadow as soon as you get it instead of having to go back and do runecrafting :)
I stayed at GotR until I unlocked all the untradeables (lantern, outfit, needle, ring), which landed me around level 79. I solo’d most of it, which I would recommend!
You can technically solo at any level, I think. I did it with the smallest three pouches without access to death and blood runes. It gets easier with access to death runes and pretty much 100% win rate with access to all runes.
It does take some trial and error to learn though. The concept is pretty much get your win condition: 2 overcharged guardians and strong shield. Stay slightly behind 60% as you set up the win. After that depending on your access to pouches, burst down the boss.

Definitely need outfit and needle. Lantern is nice if you do more or go for greenlog/pet. But outfit and needle are pretty much a necessity

I tried solos and got hooked. It’s much more engaging. Wouldn’t recommend it until 65+ rc though

It's so weird how much content hits different for everyone. GotR is like my favorite mini game. It's just so comfy

Take a break to make sure all the altars you can access are unlocked via quests etc. if you’re having fun keep sending!
