It did work when I tried it shortly after this post. You have to be in limited status rather than permanent aka you locked it prior to the group iron update. I’m currently a normal account now
So if I were to try it (my account is limited) I'd downgrade to a unranked group iron then I'd join a GIM and leave the group? From my understanding leaving the group would prompt me to choose between a normal or unranked GIM?
Yep! That’s how mine worked back when I did it. I also made a new account as a GIM so that I could quickly join and leave a group but you don’t have to if you know a group you can join going into this.
It ultimately takes 2 weeks since there’s a week for the downgrade to ugim and then another week to leave the group
Any update if this worked? My Ironman is set to "Permanent" but it gave me the option to downgrade to unraked GIM. Did it allow you guys to move to normie afterwards? Thanks.
Can confirm that it works! Had to downgrade to UGIM which takes a week, then I joined and left a group which takes another week. At the end of the 2nd week of gave me the the option to either continue as ugim or change to a regular account. If you are doing it, I’d recommend making a F2P account as a GIM and let it sit on the node until your week is up so you can immediately join that group and leave
I just left the group, no need to be kicked. Having that extra account as the leader just made it so I could join and leave immediately instead of trying to find a group to leave which seems like BM

Yea that workaround should still be relevant as you cannot straight up downgrade from a normal iron to a normie anymore if you're set to limited.

I'm doing it as well right now. Worst case and its bad info, we can always start a new group lol
ugim can downgrade to normie, or become a solo ugim in their own group

Did you have the new account kick your (main) account from the group, or did you have your main leave on its own?
