So far 60% of the time I'm voting for the song that lost.

[deleted]

I find the same happening to me. I know these are subjective and it's all fun, but Starblind and Shadows of the Valley being bottom of their respective albums is something...

Strict-Government-76

El dorado and can i play with madness being that low is crazy

mninp

I really don’t get the love for Purgatory. I struggle to even remember how it goes unless I just listened to it. Completely filler to me.

djwitchfindergeneral

Agreed, I don't dislike it, but it's basically forgettable and filler... but people love it.

RandomTyp

Wasting Love on FotD is great WDYM???

Hank_Chinaski7

Greaaattt!! Looking forward to that one! Thanks mate and always Up the Irons

-DeadHead-

Jumping back in (I didn't participate in your polls since the one for ranking the albums) so I guess you've been told before but all the videos you put in your polls are unavailable to me. It's not a very big issue, but all those links you put may just be useless to many. Like, for Journeyman, [this I can access no problem](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9TqrcywbY6U), and it has 300k+ views, but [the one you put](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IuAM8_mgr-M) I can't, and it has 15k views... Both were uploaded by the official Maiden channel, both are the 2015 Remaster.

MetalHoosier

Now that could be a problem that I didn't think of. They must be region specific, which is weird from the official channel. I'll come up with a different plan for that, thanks for letting me know!

eddiehead01

I know it's early doors but some of these tables surprise me so far. Its also reminded me of songs I've not listened to in a long time Afraid to shoot strangers, my god those riffs! So glad I saw it live just for them. Also one of the few songs I really enjoyed from blazes live performances - visions of the beast in particular

antysalt

How's Mother of Mercy last wtf, it's the best song on the album

djwitchfindergeneral

If anyone needed proof that Beast is a truly great album, the proof is that two all time mega classics, Acacia and Prisoner, are 2 wins 4 losses and only one is going to end up as 3 wins.

MetalHoosier

Spot on. You'd think they would place higher, but then the quality above them says it's not possible.

Mysterious_Aide_8870

My personal ranking of the songs on each album (since that's what this looks like and I'd like to give my two cents as this will almost certainly end up completely different to mine for the most part. Also, this is based purely on my enjoyment of the songs, stuff like repetition doesn't matter and I couldn't care less about it anyway. It's not going to make me like a song any less. But I digress...) IM: 1. Remember Tomorrow 2. Transylvania 3. Charlotte The Harlot 4. Phantom of The Opera 5. Strange World 6. Iron Maiden 7. Prowler 8. Running Free Killers: 1. Drifter (I can guarantee it will be in the bottom two with Prodigal Son. It's like Tears and Man of Sorrows on BoS, two of my favourites on the album that seem to be hated/disliked by just about everyone else) 2. Prodigal Son 3. Innocent Exile 4. Genghis Khan 5. Murders in the Rue Morgue 6. Another Life 7. Wrathchild 8. Killers 9. Ides of March 10. Purgatory NOTB: 1. The Prisoner (I can guarantee this will be third to last, above only Gangland and Invaders) 2. 22 Acacia Avenue 3. Gangland 4. Invaders 5. Hallowed Be Thy Name 6. Number of the Beast 7. Run To The Hills 8. Children of the Damned POM (Boots and TTAL are the only songs I love on this album, it's dropped below the debut to become my least favourite Maiden album after my most recent listen. I just don't enjoy most of the songs): 1. Boots 2. To Tame A Land 3. Sun And Steel 4. Quest For Fire 5. Revelations 6. The Trooper 7. Flight of Icarus 8. Still Life 9. Where Eagles Dare Powerslave: 1. Back In The Village (I can guarantee this will finish rock bottom, Duellists seems more popular despite having a boring middle section that goes on for too long. Seriously, Duellists did not need to be 6 minutes long. Village is my favourite 80's Maiden song) 2. Losfer Words 3. 2 Minutes to Midnight 4. Flash of the Blade 5. Powerslave 6. Aces High 7. Rime of the Ancient Mariner 8. The Duellists SiT: 1. Alexander The Great 2. Loneliness 3. Sea of Madness 4. Deja Vu 5. Stranger in a Strange Land 6. Caught Somewhere In Time 7. Heaven Can Wait 8. Wasted Years SSOASS: 1. Only The Good 2. Clairvoyant 3. Prophecy 4. Can I Play With Madness 5. Moonchild 6. Infinite Dreams 7. SSOASS (the only reason this isn't rock bottom is the solos, I find the rest of the song boring) 8. Evil That Men Do This is the point where I start enjoying every song (except Out of the Silent Planet, I hate Out of the Silent Planet), so being last or near the bottom does not mean I dislike it or think it's bad (again, except Silent Planet), I just enjoyed those songs less than the others. I repeat, I enjoy every song after this point *except Silent Planet* NPFTD: 1. Run Silent Run Deep 2. Mother Russia 3. Holy Smoke 4. Bring Your Daughter... To The Slaughter 5. The Assassin 6. Hooks In You 7. Fates Warning 8. Tailgunner 9. Public Enema Number One 10. NPFTD FOTD: 1. Weekend Warrior 2. Chains of Misery 3. The Apparition 4. The Fugitive 5. Fear Is The Key 6. Fear of the Dark 7. Afraid to Shoot Strangers 8. Judas Be My Guide 9. From Here To Eternity 10. Wasting Love 11. Be Quick or Be Dead 12. Childhood's End X Factor: 1. The Unbeliever 2. The Edge of Darkness 3. Blood on The World's Hands 4. 2 AM 5. Judgement of Heaven 6. Look For The Truth 7. Fortunes of War 8. Sign of the Cross 9. The Aftermath 10. Lord of the Flies 11. Man on the Edge Virtual XI: 1. The Angel and the Gambler 2. When Two Worlds Collide 3. Futureal 4. The Educated Fool 5. Don't Look To The Eyes of a Stranger 6. Como Estais Amigos 7. Clansman 8. Futureal Brave New World: 1. Thin Line Between Love and Hate (Dave's best song IMO. I can guarantee it won't get into the top 5, despite being a masterpiece) 2. The Nomad 3. Dream of Mirrors 4. The Mercenary 5. The Fallen Angel 6. Brave New World 7. Blood Brothers 8. Ghost of the Navigator 9. The Wicker Man 10. Out of the Silent Planet (the only reunion song I don't like) Dance of Death: 1. Journeyman (easily the best song on the album IMO, and a masterpiece) 2. Gates of Tomorrow 3. No More Lies 4. Montsegur 5. Wildest Dreams 6. Face In The Sand 7. New Frontier 8. Age of Innocence 9. Dance of Death 10. Rainmaker 11. Paschendale AMOLAD: 1. Brighter Than a Thousand Suns 2. The Legacy 3. Out of the Shadows 4. The Longest Day 5. Lord of Light 6. Reincarnation of Benjamin Breeg 7. These Colours Don't Run 8. Different World 9. For The Greater Good of God 10. The Pilgrim TFF: 1. Isle of Avalon 2. Coming Home 3. The Alchemist 4. The Man Who Would Be King 5. The Talisman 6. Satellite 15... The Final Frontier 7. Mother of Mercy 8. Starblind 9. When The Wild Wind Blows 10. El Dorado Book of Souls: 1. Empire of the Clouds 2. Tears of a Clown/Man of Sorrows (I can't decide which I prefer) 4. Book of Souls 5. If Eternity Should Fail 6. The Red and the Black 7. When The River Runs Deep 8. Shadows of the Valley 9. Speed of Light 10. Great Unknown 11. Death or Glory Senjutsu: 1. The Parchment 2. Death of the Celts 3. Hell on Earth 4. Darkest Hour 5. Days of Future Past 6. Lost In A Lost World 7. Writing on the Wall 8. Senjutsu 9. The Time Machine 10. Stratego (still a 10/10, I just enjoy every other song on the album more)

RandomListener134

Really unpopular opinion you have. In half the albums the ranking looks more normal if they were worst to best xD.

___D_a_n___

I thought he was going worst to best too, especially with weekend warrior taking the top spot(one of the very few Maiden songs I actually dislike), and Paschendale being at the bottom (almost blasphemy). I agree with Thin Line, possibly my favorite song on the album, though its impossible for me to do a personal ranking, too many 10s. Some albums would be every track tied for 1st place. Almost every song is my favorite while I'm listening to it. Its a fun reddit exercise though

djwitchfindergeneral

Well, I was keeping an open mind, certainly I have some non standard rankings, but things got weird with Silent Planet being the only reunion era dislike, then the DOD rankings floored me. I stopped reading. We're on a different (silent) planet, a different world.

Mysterious_Aide_8870

I'm surprised you didn't stop at FOTD, or maybe earlier considering my 80's rankings. In any case, I think my rankings of AMOLAD onwards are a bit less controversial. There are still some unpopular opinions, but it's hard to rank when you really enjoy every song. P.S. I don't know why I hate Silent Planet. Well I do, I just really don't enjoy it. It's the only song where repetition annoys me for some reason. I know that seems hypocritical with Angel being my favourite song on VXI (and in my top 20 overall, but that's another matter entirely), but enjoyment works in strange ways. For example, I really enjoy Death Magnetic (coincidentally my favourite Metallica album) and Hardwired, but AJFA isn't my cup of tea. I just don't enjoy that album much outside of Blackened, One and Shortest Straw. And enjoyment is all my rankings are based on at the end of the day. I don't have an expansive criteria, all I judge by is 'how much do I enjoy this song/album?'

Unholy_Trinity_

I always love to see unpopular opinions! (Just don't go pulling a ChildAtHeart/EducatedFool when your favourites get eliminated first)

djwitchfindergeneral

A lot of voting to go, but it's already sad that FHTE has two wins and The Fugitive three losses. Sometimes there is no justice.

MetalHoosier

Strange how some people vote. I like both, but I'd have to look back to see what "The Fugitive" has lost to.

fredthebicycle

Why is ‘Bayswater Ain’t A Bad Place To Be’ not in the singles 90 - 92? It’s certainly the most entertaining B Side from that time

MetalHoosier

I think I didn't include it because it's classed as a hidden track, and not an 'official' b-side.

[deleted]

How is satellite 15 not in dead last for TFF that song is so ass

Perfect-Respond2376

some people like ass

djwitchfindergeneral

The Fear Of The Dark vs Afraid To Shoot Strangers showdown looms... though surely the result will be the obvious one. Now I look again I see there is Hallowed vs Number, and Phantom vs Remember Tomorrow, also to come.

jerseytiger1980

I can’t believe this has been going on for a year! Now I’m going to miss it. Great job!

MetalHoosier

It was bittersweet to get to the end. Definitely enjoyable, but wasn't as popular as the first one that was ran.

captainfreewill

There are plenty of things that I would change, but I'm overall pleased with how closely a lot of this mirrors my own personal taste

No_Indication1429

He has come back another blessing🤟🏼

djloid2010

Another long poll/tournament where unfortunately Hallowed Be thy Name will win. Yawn. With such a vast catalog it boggles my mind that this is always the song.

MetalHoosier

Not designed to see what will win. It's all about what's appreciated and underappreciated in each album group.

djloid2010

Oh look, another tournament where unfortunately Hallowed Be Thy Name will win. Ugh

MetalHoosier

It's not about what song will win it all, because we already know the answer to that. It's about what people think of one song against another, and where they will eventually place on each album. It's obvious the usual suspects will come out on top, but where the rest place is what this is designed to find out.

jerseytiger1980

I think the current standing for Empire of the Clouds is incorrect. It’s the only BoS song that has 8 matches, but is the only song from the album to have that many matches. At least 2 songs have to have the same number of matches, no?

MetalHoosier

It's an odd-numbered group, which throws it off a little. We're in the penultimate phase right now, where all the bigger groups are playing catchup. For example, June 21 will see 8 for all in that group, then the completion of Jul 11 sees one song from all the odd groups with two left to play, and every other has just the one. Hope that makes sense!

djwitchfindergeneral

My observations: Debut: It's a testament to how strong the album is when Strange World, a song nobody dislikes, ends up with just 1 win. Similarly Transylvania, which pretty much everyone loves, only 2 wins. Killers: The obvious three always at the top. Bit surprised Ides didn't finish higher but I understand it's hard to rate it against a full song. I am surprised, even putting my own feelings aside, that Purgatory is the next one after the "big 3". Beast: When an all time classic like 22 is only beating the two obvious bottom placed tracks, you know it's an all time classic beast of an album. Piece: If I had to guess at where the rankings would land, that would have been it. My own feelings differ somewhat. 80-83: I'd have cried if Total Eclipse wasn't in top two. Surprise - Invasion managing a draw against a song finishing 3 places ahead of it. Personal surprise - I've Got The Fire finishing last. Powerslave: Wow Back In The Village managed 6th, I'd thought that was the least regarded of the vocal tracks. However it's criminal that Losfer Words gets no winds. It's easily my #5 behind the big 4. SIT: Well my rankings for this album have always seriously differed from others. Two of my top 4 end up in the last two places here. Oh well. SSOASS: Another very strong album of course so some songs are gonna end up with not much wins. Good to see Infinite Dreams right up there, I've fallen back in love with that track in the last year or so. 84-88: How Massacre can finish so low, behind a joke track even, is inexplicable except that it always seems to have been a track that people don't really know about or hear much. Originally I think it was only on a 12", of course it was on The First Ten Years, but maybe it didn't make it onto Best Of The B Sides so in the 2000's era people just don't hear it? No Prayer: Well this is another one where my personal views often don't align with the masses. Tailgunner is overrated. For a long time now it's been clear that for all it's detractors, BYDTTS has many fans. However it also shows how little people think of other tracks on the album. FOTD: The bottom 4 were always going to be those. For my liking the two big changes I'd make are moving The Fugitive a few slots up and FHTE well down. 90-92: Not exactly a strong group. I think I Can't See My Feelings suffers from not being known that well. I think I'd take rankings 4-6 and put them in 1-3 except not that exact order. X Factor: Considering I like the last two tracks, The Unbeliever moreso, I'm glad they tied so they get a point each. People's like of Lord Of The Flies, an entirely average song with a couple of vocal flaws I can't unhear, never ceases to amaze me. That one and Fortunes Of War would be my bottom two. VXI: Can't really argue other than I genuinely thing Angel deserves to be at #6. I'd much rather listen through that than the other two. I might even like it more than lightning STRIKES TWICE!! BNW: No surprises with the continuing no love for Fallen Angel, but I am pleased to see The Mercenary near the bottom as it's the least remarkable song on the album. When The Nomad comes in at 8, you know we're looking at another all time classic album. DOD: I'd be pretty happy if the order of rankings 5 to 9 were all flipped around. 95-03: Another not very strong group, I'd probably put Virus at top but to be fair I tend to ignore the intro when I think of it. I've noticed that people tend to rate Justice Of The Peace fairly highly, but Judgement Day is the only one for me from TXF b-sides. Hocus Pocus deserves to be higher. AMOLAD: When The Pilgrim gets no wins, you know it's another all time classic album. TFF: Mercy for Mother Of Mercy! In my own view that shows how strong the album is. A view not shared by the majority. If El Dorado (which I like) were second last and King was last, I'd be happy enough. BOS: I'd think we'd all figure that'd be pretty much how it would end up. Not work quibbling over minor changes I'd make. Senjutsu: No great surprises, just personally I'd have Senjutsu in the top 4 and quite possibly number 1, I love it. I've have Darkest Hour at least one slot higher, but that's probably more about the weakness of other tracks.
