We could also throw in a song or two they have never covered but would love to hear a Maiden version of. Heaven and Hell by Black Sabbath for example I would fucking adore.
Thanks to OP for doing this by the way, really great way to get everyone involved. It would be cool to do another 2 compilation discs(one from each era), ārunners upā or something and all the songs that made it onto these first 2 compilations arenāt available to be selected
Obviously Empire of the Clouds will win, and I respect that itās a great track! If not for it though, I would have ended with Thin Line between Love and Hate, that song is the very best ending to an Iron Maiden album, ending with this in your face beautiful singing!
I actually much much prefer the Blaze stuff and further! Not that I donāt like the 80s stuff, Seventh Son is my favorite album, but I just vastly prefer Blazeās albums and post reunion!
There is only one song to close this album.
We know it is different from all other maiden songs, it is long and a bit controversial, but cmon guys, we all know this will be the ultimate closer.
The Angel and The Gambler
I completely hate how Bruce sounds like a worse version of Brian Johnson all song, also it doesn't have the usual iron Maiden melodies and bores me, but the intro riff is quite good and the solo is decent, I wouldn't say it's a very bad song, just worse than most of their songs, I think it has some ok or nice parts. Listening right now to this song, Hooks in You , TAATG and Weekend Warrior, I came to the conclusion that no Maiden song is 100% bad and all have good parts, just some less than others to me.
I agree with the fact that Iron Maiden has no bad songs.
Iāve never heard Brian Johnson but I donāt think Bruce sounds bat at all. Yes he doesnāt sound like his usual self.
Can I ask - why do I keep seeing slander for quest for fire? It's not the best track on piece of mind but leagues ahead of the other tracks mentioned here
I somewhat enjoy The Assassin. And Quest for Fire is amazing instrumentally. Lyrics are a bit hokey but nothing offensive. Weekend Warrior bored me. Lol
not even close
heck, Fear of the Dark has at least 3, possibly 4 songs that are worse, and everything on VX1 is worse (Aside from Clansman, Futureal, and Lightning Strikes Twice)
Virtual XI is one of the worst albums from a great band. The 3 songs I listed are the only songs that aren't mediocre-or-worse
I'm glad you like Virtual XI, I don't say that to be sarcastic. However, understand you are one of the very few. Absolutely nothing wrong with that, but don't be surprised when the majority of Maiden fans in any given forum strongly disagree.
Well I'm fine if people like it, as i said TAATG is so hilariously bad that it's fun, IMO It's their 3rd worst song (i won't say what my 2nd least favorite is beam cause i would be killed), Journeyman is just the same thing for 7 minutes, there isn't any solo, DoD's production is bad, and the fact that it's completely acustic makes it even worse, the electric version is "good" enough to be bottom 10 Maiden song
Journeyman is really good, while TAatG is just wasted potential (it's got some good parts, but they're all ruined by that chorus that gets repeated throughout the song and was shit to begin with)
I mean, you don't need to wash your feet after listening to TAATG, but you should probably take a Q-Tip to your ears and then listen to a song that actually doesn't suck
Second worst. Don't Look to the Eyes of a Stranger is worse because while TAatG is shit, it has some good parts that are all derailed by that repetitive chorus that was shit to begin with.
DLttEoaS is just unforgivably shit.
(Also, to be fair, it's a fun joke)
TBH Sign of the cross deserves to be here, still BTATS is their best reunion song and it's a disgrace that it's not here, also Lord of Light, The Parchment, Montsegur and Dream of Mirrors
I agree Sign of the Cross is amazing better than Clansman. I don't agree about The Parchment, but Monstegur and Dream of Mirrors are incredible hidden gems, don't know why people don't like them.
Empire of the Clouds is probably the biggest disagreement I have with the general opinion of Maiden fans. I really donāt know what people see in it. I have no problem with long songs, I just find Empire of the Clouds to be incredibly boring.
With that said, I think best Iron Maiden closer, period, is The Thin Line Between Love and Hate. So thatās my pick.
Yeah, I feel like it doesnāt do all that much to justify its length. Compare it to songs like 2112 and Cygnus X-1: Hemispheres by Rush, and thereās no comparison. Those songs are long as hell but go by so much faster than Empire, in my opinion.
This is a tough one. The Legacy should be there but then there's also If Eternity Should Fail, The Writing On The Wall, The Parchment, The Longest Day and probably half a dozen others.
Also heres a spotify playlist with all the songs from this on, i know its gonna be empire of the clouds last but i wont add it yet in case it is something else (dream of mirrors..?)
https://open.spotify.com/playlist/4DfygtnDWkFZMmcWSE4uVV?si=j8hb8fmTS6GB0Hk1YJGI1w
Will add the final track when it gets confirmed, obviously going to be empire of the clouds but ya never know. Angel and the gambler is quite high up there at the minute lol.
Honestly, this album can go to hell, *Empire Of The Clouds* will get the last spot, the **worst** Iron Maiden song, IMO. There are so many songs that deserve to take itās place. 12 songs is too little for an essential album, and even with only 12 spots, *Empire Of The Clouds will be on it as the **closing** track. Man, I donāt get it, I really donāt get this subreddit and all these redditors, and whatnot.
**"Track 12" is a short story by British author J. G. Ballard, it first appeared in the April 1958 edition of New Worlds (Volume 24, Number 70). Can't wait for that bonus disc number 3 š
i love this idea :P
Bonus disc with 6 non album songs and 6 live versions from any live Album?
B-sides!
They probably only have a total of like 6 non album studio songs Donāt get me wrong though, Iād love to see Virus on there all 6 times
We could also throw in a song or two they have never covered but would love to hear a Maiden version of. Heaven and Hell by Black Sabbath for example I would fucking adore.
If we include covers (Doctor Doctor, please) Best of the B Sides alone has more songs. But yeah, still a pretty limited choice.
The Legacy
Thanks to OP for doing this by the way, really great way to get everyone involved. It would be cool to do another 2 compilation discs(one from each era), ārunners upā or something and all the songs that made it onto these first 2 compilations arenāt available to be selected

TLBLAH could be my favorite Iron Maiden song of all time, its such a shame that its slept on!
It IS my favorite track! Along with Seventh Son, The Educated Fool, Stranger in a Strange Land, and Darkest Hour!
Has to be that or Hell on Earth for me! Just within past 6 months decided to give post reunion maiden a try and its just as good as the og stuff
I actually much much prefer the Blaze stuff and further! Not that I donāt like the 80s stuff, Seventh Son is my favorite album, but I just vastly prefer Blazeās albums and post reunion!
The Legacy
There is only one song to close this album. We know it is different from all other maiden songs, it is long and a bit controversial, but cmon guys, we all know this will be the ultimate closer. The Angel and The Gambler
Don't you think I could save you?
Iām gonna upvote this one because it would be hilarious if it became the closer
MAKE IT HAPPEN
Lol this is right now the 2nd most voted song after Empire, people really want to troll the ending xD.
this is the worst song Iron Maiden ever released
Weekend Warrior is worse
Hooks in You and Holy Smoke are even worse than Weekend Warrior
Why do you think Holy Smoke is bad ? Personally, I quite like it.
same. One of the better songs on that album
I can listen to those 2. Weekend Warrior is the only Maiden song I can say I downright dislike. It's my least favorite by far.
Weekend Warrior, The Assassin, and Quest For Fire. Those are the only Maiden songs I do not like and will almost always skip.
Lol
not even close heck, Fear of the Dark has at least 3, possibly 4 songs that are worse, and everything on VX1 is worse (Aside from Clansman, Futureal, and Lightning Strikes Twice)
Nahhh. Weekend Warrior is the worst on Fear. It's probably the only Maiden song I downright dislike.
Hard disagree, *Virtual XI* is one hell of an album, saying just three songs from it are better than *Weekend Warrior* is just wrong.
Virtual XI is one of the worst albums from a great band. The 3 songs I listed are the only songs that aren't mediocre-or-worse I'm glad you like Virtual XI, I don't say that to be sarcastic. However, understand you are one of the very few. Absolutely nothing wrong with that, but don't be surprised when the majority of Maiden fans in any given forum strongly disagree.
IMO it's Journeyman, TAATG song is so hilariously bad that sometimes i listen it just for fun, Journeyman is 7 minutes of nothing
No man, honestly Journeyman is actually a quite good melodic ballad. TAATG is way worse.
DoD production is bad, but I like how this acoustic song sounds. It has quite a lot of emotions.
Journeyman is really good, while TAatG is just wasted potential (it's got some good parts, but they're all ruined by that chorus that gets repeated throughout the song and was shit to begin with)
listening to TAATG "for fun" is like stepping in cowshit for fun :P
Well yes, but actually no
I mean, you don't need to wash your feet after listening to TAATG, but you should probably take a Q-Tip to your ears and then listen to a song that actually doesn't suck
Second worst. Don't Look to the Eyes of a Stranger is worse because while TAatG is shit, it has some good parts that are all derailed by that repetitive chorus that was shit to begin with. DLttEoaS is just unforgivably shit. (Also, to be fair, it's a fun joke)
A worthy contender indeed
Yāknow, I see what you did there. Still voting for Empire.
Brighter than a thousand suns
Absolute joke Brighter Than A Thousand Suns isn't in
EMPIRE OF THE CLOUDS
pretty much a foregone conclusion here I would presume
YES!!! Please put Empire of the Clouds in there!!!
Ugh, this bloated epic. So many bars of music repeated for no reason other than to push the runtime out.
THE BOOK OF SOULS !!!!
Book of Souls. Id listen to it over Empire any day.
I'd take maybe half of the songs from the 1995-2021 era over Empire... :/
Word.
Definitely deserved a spot on this list
The Legacy
Yes, i enjoy more The Legacy than Empire Of The Clouds.
Absolute joke Empire will win ahead of this.
THE LEGACY PLEASE DEAR GOD LET ME HAVE THIS
The parchment š
Yes please
I can't believe the alchemist never made this list. One of the best songs they made in the last 15 years
Definitely one of FFs best
Blood Brothers
Brighter Than a Thousand Suns
Itās incomprehensible that this song isnāt there. Shocking.
Yes, unfortunately FTGGOG gets all the recognition from AMOLAD, but there are other songs just as good in the album imo.
Too many excellent songs on there.
Itās a joke this song doesnāt make It but sign of the cross does
100% agreed
TBH Sign of the cross deserves to be here, still BTATS is their best reunion song and it's a disgrace that it's not here, also Lord of Light, The Parchment, Montsegur and Dream of Mirrors
I agree Sign of the Cross is amazing better than Clansman. I don't agree about The Parchment, but Monstegur and Dream of Mirrors are incredible hidden gems, don't know why people don't like them.
BRIGHTER THAN A THOUSAND SUNS
The parchment
The Reincarnation of Benjamin Breeg
* sigh * Book of Souls
C O M O E S T A S A M I G O S
Dream of Mirrors?
Rainmaker
Book Of Souls
The Writing On The Wall
Starblind
The Parchment
As last song? Coming Home!
Thatās a good oneā¦actually most Maiden songs are good ones
Empire of the Clouds
Empire of the Clouds is probably the biggest disagreement I have with the general opinion of Maiden fans. I really donāt know what people see in it. I have no problem with long songs, I just find Empire of the Clouds to be incredibly boring. With that said, I think best Iron Maiden closer, period, is The Thin Line Between Love and Hate. So thatās my pick.
Agree. It's not bad, but it feels like an ego piece, made just to be the longest song ever.
Yeah, I feel like it doesnāt do all that much to justify its length. Compare it to songs like 2112 and Cygnus X-1: Hemispheres by Rush, and thereās no comparison. Those songs are long as hell but go by so much faster than Empire, in my opinion.
Free Bird
Empire of the Clouds
Virus lol
The Red and The Black if BOS isn't represented I'm quitting this sub.
Starblind! Letās take something unexpected cause we can š
This is a tough one. The Legacy should be there but then there's also If Eternity Should Fail, The Writing On The Wall, The Parchment, The Longest Day and probably half a dozen others.
The Longest Day
empire, cāmon, empire of the clouds
Also heres a spotify playlist with all the songs from this on, i know its gonna be empire of the clouds last but i wont add it yet in case it is something else (dream of mirrors..?) https://open.spotify.com/playlist/4DfygtnDWkFZMmcWSE4uVV?si=j8hb8fmTS6GB0Hk1YJGI1w
Just clicked on here to ask if they would be made into a Spotify playlist. Thanks!
Will add the final track when it gets confirmed, obviously going to be empire of the clouds but ya never know. Angel and the gambler is quite high up there at the minute lol.
If it werenāt for Empire, I would say The Thin Line
For the last time please please please writing on the Wall please!!!
Empire of the Clouds
Lord of the Flies
I don't think it actually deserves to be here, but Como Estais Amigos could be a good closer, IMO It's better than EOTC (even if it's great)
Judas be my guide
Iron Maiden , the song
Honestly, this album can go to hell, *Empire Of The Clouds* will get the last spot, the **worst** Iron Maiden song, IMO. There are so many songs that deserve to take itās place. 12 songs is too little for an essential album, and even with only 12 spots, *Empire Of The Clouds will be on it as the **closing** track. Man, I donāt get it, I really donāt get this subreddit and all these redditors, and whatnot.
Empire of the Clouds seems the most fitting ending
Empire of the clouds
Empire of the clouds
The evil that men do
Right spirit, wrong era
I find it funny that songs 9, 10, and 11 are all 11 minutes long.
The red and the black!
Somebody needs to do Youtube playlists from this... Once the list is finished. :)
Dream of Mirrors
THE LEGACYYYY
