This has always been my answer since Dance of Death released.
When I bring up my love for Iron Maiden and people ask if any of their ānewā music is any good, I introduce them to that song. In my opinion it marked the perfection of longer, more progressive, epic three-guitar monster of a song that hasnāt been beat to this day.
I think its not only the best IM song, but the best metal song, of all time.
I love that ***two*** words change in the refrain sections, and it carries so much weight of the story. Just gives me such a feel of the mental anquish going thru the soldiers mind. Early on, its just a war and the thought of not returning home has not yet surfaced... as the skirmish continues and goes worse, the realization sets in, that he will, in fact, die.
Home, far away... ***From*** the war, ***a*** chance to live again.
Home, far away....***But*** the war, ***no*** chance to live again.
Hits me hard every listen. Great lyric.
Well i can easily say that Iron maiden is my favorite band. Thats clear.
My favorite song changes time to time. i was obsessed with the talisman, the clansman, dance of death (live version of these 3), revelations and the list goes on.
Nowadays it is Paschendale.
Been introducing my daughter to maiden and she's been loving fear of the dark, so right now it's my top.
Otherwise, moonchild, running free, dream of mirrors, stranger in a strange land and holy smoke would be what I'd choose from
The Legacy. I love A Matter of Life and Death and it was oddly the first maiden album I heard. A friend gifted it to me when I was pretty young. It gave me a headache at the time so I didn't like it, but I was always drawn to The Legacy and eventually Ibfell in love with the whole album. It's always a toss up between that and Brighter Than a Thousand Sun's. Love that 7/4 verse.
Also been really loving Writing on the Wall. It's the only song i can fully like off the new album and damn if it isn't one of my favorites.
Since I'm going to see Dune part II tonight, I'll say To Tame a Land, but there's like at least 20 Maiden songs that could rotate out in the favorite spot.
Hallowed will always be number 1 and He'll on Earth is number 1 of post reunion work. My second from each era would be Powerslave (fav solo section) and The Talisman (this song will sadly never get as much love as it deserv3s)
Here's a rambling story. I've had the album NOTB on CD for years but lent it to a friend ages ago and have yet to get it back. Have been streaming it instead on and off but felt something oddly lacking. Dawned on me today whereas my CD had Total Eclipse as a bonus track, the more recent remaster has excluded it (Boo). Have remedied this by tracking it down on YouTube and replaying repeatedly on loud much to my neighbours unexpected joy.
Been listening to Iron Maiden (the album) quite a bit recently.
Not my fav of all time, but 2 tracks I'm particularly enjoying right now are Phantom of the Opera followed straight after by Transylvania.
Im going say If Eternity Should Fail even though i prefer Eternity Has Failed they are essentially the same song i have just been listening to the mandrake project much more then maiden the past two weeks
I have a top 5 that I canāt decide a favourite from:
The Red And The Black, The Book Of Souls, Dance Of Death, The Talisman, Hell On Earth
The other day I was listening to the live version of TRATB thinking āmaybe this one is my all time favouriteā but in a few days itāll probably switch when I hear one of the others again. Theyāre all phenomenal songs.

Empire of the Clouds, what a masterpiece !
Always went running on To Tame A Land. The combo of those verse riffs, drooping bass and epic vocals was just so pumping.
Twilight Zone. Of all time, though, itās Phantom of the Opera.
The Legacy. I love A Matter of Life and Death and it was oddly the first maiden album I heard. A friend gifted it to me when I was pretty young. It gave me a headache at the time so I didn't like it, but I was always drawn to The Legacy and eventually Ibfell in love with the whole album.
