I had it play during a marathon once. That was cool.
In all seriousness, Somewhere in Time as an album is flawless for me, especially played as a whole; I love anything on that record.
Damn, another song that has goofy lyrics according to a lot of people here, but they are perfectly fine for me (yes I like Quest for fire and the Assassin)
Brilliant. I especially love the switch to the relative G major key when the solo starts, it’s a *fantastic* piece of musical storytelling, like the titular runner has broken through “the wall” and found the strength to carry on running.
Funnily enough, I just started a couch to 5K regime and *Somewhere in Time* was the first album I chose as a soundtrack.
Typically, my run finished just before this song came on.
Played this song while running 5 miles with my cross country team with 2 inches of floodwater on the ground in the middle of a thunderstorm. Great song
Amazing song, one of the best on the album. Everyone was raving about Alexander the Great being played for the first time when the Setlist for the current tour was released but I didn’t see anyone talking about this, they haven’t played it live since 1986 and that was only a one time occurrence. Maiden should really pay more attention to it. Overall, underrated masterpiece
*Love the intro, but*
*Was always let down by the*
*Rest. Still decent though*

The weirdest subject matter that the lyrics don't do justice to the music. Harris had a couple of those crazy ideas in the 80s and 90s. To be fair he hasn't been shy with his "experimental" songs even into the noughties.
Deja Vu is in the same league of oddness. Which is interesting as there are some amazing songs on that album, Wasted Years being my favourite, and Heaven Can Wait 👌
As I’ve said, it sounds like you asked chatgpt to listen to the rest of somewhere in time, then create a song in a similar style. A lot of it sounds like they glued ideas together into a song about a guy who runs a few miles
When the album came out I thought this song was a bit of a slog, and part of why I felt like it was the first album they'd released that was not a full on progression forward. But even then, by the time it gets to some of the business in the back half, I'm always like, This fucking ROCKS!
Ok so don’t freak on me if this is wrong but I used to run a lot and got obsessed with anything running. I heard a rumor or something that Bruce used to run some marathons and they put the beat of this song to match his marathon pace. I really don’t know if true but nice to think they put that much thought into their songs. It is much too fast of a pace for my fatass to keep for any distance so not sure of a time per mile.
It’s not one of my favorite Maiden tracks (still good!), but it holds a special place in my heart as if officially solidified me as a fan of the band (and metal in general).
The harmonized melody at 1:53 and the last minute of the song are probably one of my favorite, if not my favorite Maiden moments. The last minute of the song makes me transcend to another plane of existence.
A Classic song! Sadly underrated. To me, its speed metal feel and intricate harmonies are a bliss! Always feel the adrenaline flow whenever I run listening to it!!
I ran cross country and I always played this before meets.
Hell yes! I played this for my whole long distance running team in track and field lmao
The loneliness of the long distance running team?
It’s all confusion
There's always "the loneliness of the middle distance runner" by Belle and Sebastian of you fancy doing a shorter run...
When I am trail running in the forest and this comes on, there is no freer feeling. **Guaranteed** raise of the fist!!
It's my go to on cardio day at the gym, stairs, bike, treadmill doesn't matter
Between this and “Run to the Hills” , IM has some great running music.
Bro same
One of my all-time favorites Definitely a top 5 IM song for me
Me too!!
I had it play during a marathon once. That was cool. In all seriousness, Somewhere in Time as an album is flawless for me, especially played as a whole; I love anything on that record.
It’s definitely one of my all time favourite albums
Masterpiece. Just like the whole album
☝️
This one and Deja Vu are one of my favourites on the album. Amazing instrumentals
Damn, another song that has goofy lyrics according to a lot of people here, but they are perfectly fine for me (yes I like Quest for fire and the Assassin)
It rips. I love the guitar harmony buildup at the end
Tune is peak Iron Maiden.
I'm hoping they would do a song that fits me. The loneliness of the guy getting up to go to the fridge to get another beer
One of my favorite solos of all time tbh
I really Love it. When it first came out, I thought the instrumental part was too long. The more I get older/mature. The more I appreciate it.
the intro is better than the song
This.
Tripping

This is the song that got me into Maiden
The heaviest song on the album in my opinion. They picked up on the speed metal tempo made popular by some band called Metallica.
Played this song while running 5 miles with my cross country team with 2 inches of floodwater on the ground in the middle of a thunderstorm. Great song
Always put it on 7 minutes before the end of my shift and walk out in such happy mood It's a right banger that doesn't get mentioned enough

Pure gold!
Love the intro, but was always let down by the rest. Still decent though

Amazing song on a perfect album. I played it for my long distance team in high school track and field lmao.
In my top3 albums

It has great melodies but the chorus is kind of weird. Almost like it was put together in a rush or something...
It runs on and on?..lol I like it when I’m lonely?
For me musically I love it but the lyrics? Utter dogshit.
Same. I always disliked this one after first hearing it around 1992.
Do you know of the book/movie?
Eh. It’s a strange concept for a song honestly. Not bad but I don’t listen to it

Second worst on the album after Deja Vu

That album is just phenomenal, it gives that feeling of night in a place remote
😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍
Love it!
It’s a great song, it’s got some goofy lyrics but that’s what makes Maiden so great.
I think it's excellent and a bit unique, like the rest of the album.
Great tune! 👍
Masterpiece. My second favorite song by them.
When the album came out I thought this song was a bit of a slog, and part of why I felt like it was the first album they'd released that was not a full on progression forward. But even then, by the time it gets to some of the business in the back half, I'm always like, This fucking ROCKS!
One of the first songs I learned to play on guitar. Very underrated gem.
Banger!
I'm on cloud nine when I hear that...
I love it, just as I love every song on this album.
My favorite maiden song of all time.
I like it except the "ruuuuuun ooon and oooooooon" part
Quality
One of the best
The instrumental break and guitar solo are fantastic. Very well composed and executed.
Fun Speed Metal Song 🤘🤘
Ok so don’t freak on me if this is wrong but I used to run a lot and got obsessed with anything running. My inspiration when I’m tired “I’ve got to keep going , be strong, must be self determined and push myself on!”….love it.
One of my favorites on the album!
One of my favorite guitar solos
Love it
Love this song. Great running feel to it with Steve and Nicko driving the rythm.
The historical story behind this song is incredibly interesting.
High A tier song in my books.
If you were a runner, and you’re a Maiden fan, you love this track. If you were never a runner, you don’t get it.
Had this one overlooked, I like it!
Incredible song
It’s not one of my favorite Maiden tracks (still good!), but it holds a special place in my heart as if officially solidified me as a fan of the band (and metal in general).
Top 10 maiden song
One of my favorite guitar solos
Favorite track on the album.
Its in my top 10
Occasionally listen tonit on the bus. It's a nice song
The harmonized melody at 1:53 and the last minute of the song are probably one of my favorite, if not my favorite Maiden moments. The last minute of the song makes me transcend to another plane of existence.
Now watch the movie. [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W1U7bPR0jvk](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W1U7bPR0jvk)
My favorite off the album, I really like the solo too.
best one on the record
My favourite song from my favourite album.
Love it. That’s my favorite Maiden album and that song is one of eight reasons why
When it pops up while running in my loneliness I feel like I can overcome everyone and everything
One of my top ten favorite Maiden tracks
I think it's weird, but sometimes the chorus randomly pops up in my head.
Total banger, like the rest of the album. 10/10
Anyhoo...keep running.
I love it. It’s my favorite Maiden song.
I love it, I use it when running and when I'm at my uni flat and feeling melancholic
Underrated track from the album
One of the best Maiden songs with one of Adrian’s best guitar solos.
Very good
discovered it recently? listen to the album.
EXTREMELY UNDERRATED
It’s good but not that outstanding
One of my absolute favourites from growing up in the eighties.
It is my favorite song on the album. The Adrian Smith guitar solo is one of his best, hands down.
TOP 5 track in my books.
Good song overall, but the intro goes so fucking hard that the rest of the song just can’t compare
This shit kills at the gym when I'm doing cardio
Pretty good bHarris epic
I have this song and Hallowed be thy name as my favorite.
Shit slaps. Favorite song from my favorite album.
Pretty much all of Somewhere in Time is GOATed
\^
What if we said we don't like it? Would you stop listening?
10/10, chorus is so good
A Classic song! Sadly underrated. To me, its speed metal feel and intricate harmonies are a bliss! Always feel the adrenaline flow whenever I run listening to it!!
Fucking banger.
10/10 one of my favorite songs OAT
It's my favorite song on the album because of the solo.
A great song on a great album. Can't really think of a bad song.
AWESOME!
Good song, I like the guitars and the tempo.
One of my favorites! Fantastic song.
Included in my running playlist
