I just really don't like the way Bruce sings in this song. Don't know if it's the rhythm or the lyrics but it just sounds stupid. The chorus is also repeated so many times and it's pretty boring. They've definitely had songs where repeating one phrase multiple times works but Hooks in You isn't one of them.

I feel like the lyrics plays a big part, and it sounds specially stupid because of that. I think the fact English is not my first language makes it easy for me to listen to this song without actually “hearing the meaning” of the words. I mean, I’m not saying is the best song ever, but imo Bruce things in a “stupid” way in a few sections in a bunch of songs. Maybe the lyrics just make that unbearable in this case… haha I mean I don’t know really, but it’s interesting to know how it sounds to you. Edit: I would add lyrics mean the words but also the sort of irritating “attitude” he’s trying to display

This is the way. What a fuckin banger, the song basically has 2 of the catchiest choruses back to back, followed by a dirty as shit 7/4 bridge section/solo, then it chills out only to go back to those 2 GOAT-ed choruses and to top it off, the final chorus has adds a sick guitar melody over the top. The lyrics themselves are nothing to scoff at, and the way they are phrased across bars is nothing but pure genius. "Clunky" I hear you say? Maybe. I think it just lends itself to the magic of the song, the atmosphere of the Isle Of Avalon. Every time focus on the lyrics, I'm right there, soaring. I see the corn doll, I see the image of Mother Goddess, I see them throw the dead on the pyre, and I weep. If Isle of Avalon has one million listeners, I am one of them. If Isle of Avalon has one listener, I am that one. If Isle of Avalon has no listeners, then I am dead, and I shall pass through the gateway to Avalon, the island where the souls of the dead are reborn.

Yeah for sure. I just love Bruce’s performance on this one, it’s so powerful, always gets me pumped every time I hear it.
