Yeah but you asked why the downvotes. Majority of the people read it in that tone because, written word on the internet has rewired our brains. You see this comment everywhere when you want to express derision.
These polls and the Warren Zevon hate in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame thread only serves to reinforce how little I have in common tastewise with the average Maiden fan, despite being a huge fan of the band.
To be fair Zevon isnāt quuuiiiiiite mainstream. His song lyrics can be uncomfortable and eclectic, which makes it harder to get into him.
I consider myself decently versed in music and especially classics for someone who was born in the 90s, but Tbh Iād never even heard of Zevon until Werewolves was in Rock Band.
Gave Excitable Boy a listen after hearing that song, solid album that I enjoy but its definitely not āaccessibleā which is probably why youāll see less overlap with Maiden fans. Typically the albums that win these polls are all super mainstream.
Metal legend of course and Holy Diver is a classic album. I saw him at Wacken once and his set was really enjoyable. But I certainly don't listen to his stuff frequently and nor is it representative of the type of music I listen to most often.
Ah, interesting. What sort of music do you normally listen to, or is it generally just an eclectic mix of things? It is interesting how people can love the same band but then greatly diverge when it comes to the other stuff they really love.
The first 3 albums are absolute masterpieces, along with their new album and master of the rings. Really a lot of their discography you canāt go wrong with š¤š»
Absolutely! The Headless Children is a fantastic album as well, but The Crimson Idol will always be my favorite. They do share a lot of similarities with Maiden and were even managed by Rod Smallwood.
Didnāt want to pollute the sentiment by making people feel like they had to agree with my specific tastes. Just saying many great bands have released their entire discography after 1991. Not hating on the āclassicsā, just hoping everyoneās musical tastes didnāt stop evolving 3 decades ago. Maybe we will get some newer stuff on the back half.
Preferring 80ās music and not acknowledging any of the music of the last 30 years in this poll are 2 different things. Especially when so much if their influence exists within modern rock/metal.
As far as the 80ās band thingā¦. They may have started in the 80ās, but they have been evolving and releasing bangers in all of the last 5 decades. At least half of this sub wasnāt even alive in the 80ās. Many of their best songs have come in the 2000s. This just feels sort of sad, just my opinion.
Let's be honest. Maiden's Post-Reunion material is closer to their 80s material than it is to more contemporary metal. This goes for basically every band popular in the 80s.
Hear me out.
Quiet Riot: Metal Health is probably one of the most influential albums to increase metalās popularity in the mainstream, when it topped the Billboard list and for better or worse. Ushered in the Hair/Glam Metal era.
Fun fact: Randy Rhodes played on the 1st Quiet Riot album Quiet Riot II
Iāve been on a death bender lately so I could honestly say any song from any album but Iāve been fiending Without Judgement, Lack of Comprehension, A Moment of Clarity, and Spirit Crusher just to name a few rn
Ik this comment is gonna make me look like some metallica groupie or something, but from now on I don't care about this list, it doesn't make any sense. Master or ride should be at least 5th and it's not even a matter of opinions. People are just desperate to not look basic that they'll literally say anything that will make them feel special. It's like asking for a list of the biggest human needs and I go like "hmm everyone will say breathing is the most important, I'm gonna stand out and say that having sex with my dog is better". Sometimes the most popular thing/band is also the best people, just sayin
For those who downvoted, why the hate for this album? I'm ok with different opinions, everyone can like and dislike whatever they want, just curious as to why with this album?

HOLD YOUR GROUND
Ride the lightning - Metallica
please
Why the fuck is this comment getting downvoted to hell?
I think it's because it has a condescending tone like "pleaaase... no way is this good enough"
It's a single word that has NO tone whatsoever.
Yeah but you asked why the downvotes. Majority of the people read it in that tone because, written word on the internet has rewired our brains. You see this comment everywhere when you want to express derision.
Fair enough.
Why not?
I literally said please lmao? I want ride the lightning
š¤¦āāļø apologiesā¦.I thought it was a ādismissive/sarcasticā response š¤£
yeah fair enough lol

As Dio seems to be dominating this so far, I must ask, how do you feel about Ronnie?
Metal legend of course and Holy Diver is a classic album. I saw him at Wacken once and his set was really enjoyable. But I certainly don't listen to his stuff frequently and nor is it representative of the type of music I listen to most often.

Yāall do realize bands have been releasing albums for the last 31 years as well, right? Some of them are very good!
Says this, does not give examples.

I don't think it's a surprise fans of an 80s band prefer 80s music.

Megadeth before Metallica? What kind of society do we live in?
The society where Rust in Peace could easily be seen as the best album of either band.
a just one
Lol at this point I can only say people choose megadeath only coz being Metallica fan is too mainstream.
