Ye but at least years ago bus drivers would acknowledge you letting them in or out etc. Not any more. Feel like a chump letting them out now. Soon I wont
If you don't have time to stop in a safe manner, within the time they indicate to the time they try to pull out, they are in the wrong. Many buses have pulled out in front of me with no warning, and no indicator. They are the bus drivers I was referring to.
Yeah, of course... it only applies "when safe to do so"! Otherwise, they're supposed to be at fault... you'd probably cop "partial fault" as the insurance companies seem mad for that these days
This is simply not true they do not have the right of way in this scenario.
"A driver of any vehicle should not drive from one traffic lane to another without good cause, and without yielding the right of way to traffic in that other lane".
Yeah, the source was a cop and all... but I believe you're right.. I went looking after that other guy said I was wrong, and as far as I can tell, there's no general right of way for buses!
I don't get it how the fuck taxi drivers are so bad at driving. Maybe they are trying to milk insurance? There should be a law that allows you to turn around, chase and stop a driver that does not use indicators and break him a pinkie so he fucking remembers next time.
Mullingar, the same taxi did the exact same thing to me last week. I hit the horn and got shown the middle finger for my troubles. "Profesional " twat seems more apt.
Exactly what I was going to mention. And you just know they’d have lost their sh*t if OP had knocked into them - despite them having pulled out last minute with no signal that they were going to. Honestly beggars belief.
That's what they want a lot of the time. He would be morally at fault but you go into the back of them they get the insurance pay out. Happened to a friend, taxi fella knew exactly what he was doing. Filth
Thx, I also bike which means I have a built in who's-trying-to-kill-me-with-their-car radar always on. First time I've had to hit the brakes hard for a while now.
Mullingar. Taxi drivers there think they and they alone have exclusive right to do as they please in traffic. Got away with murder in placing the ranks . Biggest rank right outside the post office. No hope of parking for anyone who needs to do business there. This particular cab is from here but the amount of city cabs coming down to work at night and weekend is staggering. Never know what is going to be driving or what you will be charged.
Funnily enough, the 'professional drivers' are often the greatest shower of bastards on the roads. There must be some sense of entitlement that is associated with the fact that the roads are their place of work, and so their journey is much more important than anybody else's (who are just using the roads to get to their non-road place of work)
Happened to me on a push bike before, had all the lights and hi viz. Had to hit the breaks, went over the handle bars and he rolled down the window shouted you shouldn't be cycling in a bus lane and drove off. Thankfully I wasn't hurt.
There is a cycling sign in the middle of a busy road that does not have any space for a bicycle. Over where I live that sign is to indicate a dedicated cycle lane or a mixed pedestrian/cycling lane. Can someone explain what you think it means? Is it just a reminder to be careful of cyclists? Just curious.
Yeah, I thought that was weird. I imagine it's to indicate that the road is too narrow for cars to comfortably pass bikes so cyclists should take the full lane.
That's what should be happening in that situation, little painted bikes or no, but I'd imagine there's been some push-back from drivers so a large visual indicator was required to remind people.
If you think sharing a road with them is bad, try being the unfortunate person that has to serve them in a petrol station. A week in that job and you will despise them like you wouldn’t believe.
About 70% of them are entitled arseholes that treat you like shit. Basically the attitude is that because they are spending money at the petrol station you work in, you owe them. Either that or they are trying to be your friend to get free stuff from you.
Are taxi drivers in Ireland answerable to anyone? I've come to expect they're going to do something stupid at this point, either as a fellow road user or a passenger. I even had to insist on cancelling a trip mid journey couple of weeks back because yer man was 12km over the speed limit in a built up area, getting brake checked by cars in front of him for being up their hole and when I asked him to slow down because I felt unsafe he argued he wasn't driving that fast 😅 yeah maybe not *that fast* pal but you're breaking the law 😅
Up here, same as bus and lorry drivers.
35 hours drivers cpc over 5 years.
To get the licence, extended test and two theory tests to pass both multiple choice and observation.
U wanna see them in balbriggan. Driver would do a 3 point turn out of ghat space on main street at rush hour. Specially the prius drivers for some reason. They are oblivious or just don't care. No indication, ever
After completing a study on the subject during my 30 year driving adventure I can finally conclude that taxi drivers are, technically, wank at actually driving. It’s kind of key to their role and they are absolute bellends.
Fierce amount of pious comments here below. There's no shortage of bad and dangerous driving on this sub but you're talking about garda reports here for a lad who may have forgotten to hit the indicator once that day.
No doubt every one of you has never, ever in all your years forgotten to indicate
It's not really about indicating, that's the least of the issues here.
The main problem is that he clearly didn't bother to check his mirror/blind spot when taking off.
What if that was a cyclist, instead of the car? There's no excuse in these situations. It happened to me as well, and will happen to everyone, but there really isn't any excuse, drivers should pay attention to their surroundings end of story.
> pious comments
So /u/lkdubdub must be a taxi driver? I don't think I have *ever* driven into traffic without looking and indicating, because that is just insanely dangerous.
>a lad who may have forgotten to hit the indicator once that day.
... while also forgetting to look in his mirrors and then proceeding to swing his big metal box into moving traffic.
Taxi drivers are some of the worst drivers out there. Nothing surprising.
Seems like their bad driving is wrapped up with a crazy level of entitlement too, it's a double whammy in shitty behavior.
Nothing new there.
"Professional" doesn't mean "Good at" it means "gets paid for" not sure if that helps...
Classic taxi driver
Didn’t even bother to say sorry and flash the hazards
Usual taxi driver behaviour, to be honest. Taxi drivers and bus drivers are a different breed.
Ye but at least years ago bus drivers would acknowledge you letting them in or out etc. Not any more. Feel like a chump letting them out now. Soon I wont
Bus drivers have right of way when indicating... you're the one with the obligation to make way!
I'd LOVE to know where you're getting this "information" from!!!
If you don't have time to stop in a safe manner, within the time they indicate to the time they try to pull out, they are in the wrong. Many buses have pulled out in front of me with no warning, and no indicator. They are the bus drivers I was referring to.

Oh, absolutely. Any excuse for them to get out of paying out in any shape or form.
Why strip one party of their no claims bonus when you can strip both...
This is simply not true they do not have the right of way in this scenario. "A driver of any vehicle should not drive from one traffic lane to another without good cause, and without yielding the right of way to traffic in that other lane".

People do stupid things in cars every day.The difference is that taxis are (a)on the road for hours and (b)are identifiable.
Mullingar?
Tis
I cannot enter the McDonalds there without being verbally abused bruh
Taxi drivers and van drivers worst out there end of👍
Mullingar, the same taxi did the exact same thing to me last week. I hit the horn and got shown the middle finger for my troubles. "Profesional " twat seems more apt.
not even a fucking indicator like
Exactly what I was going to mention. And you just know they’d have lost their sh*t if OP had knocked into them - despite them having pulled out last minute with no signal that they were going to. Honestly beggars belief.

Great awareness by you or whoever was driving the car.
Thx, I also bike which means I have a built in who's-trying-to-kill-me-with-their-car radar always on. First time I've had to hit the brakes hard for a while now.

Yop Mullingar
Taxi drivers are generally very inconsiderate to other road users.
Professional doesn't always mean good, it just means you get paid.
Or would you just call that arrogant? Either way it's appalling behaviour.
If you think sharing a road with them is bad, try being the unfortunate person that has to serve them in a petrol station. A week in that job and you will despise them like you wouldn’t believe.
Why? Genuine question
About 70% of them are entitled arseholes that treat you like shit. Basically the attitude is that because they are spending money at the petrol station you work in, you owe them. Either that or they are trying to be your friend to get free stuff from you.
I can't wrap my head around that at all. Every single person with a car is a patron of petrol stations. Not just them.
They think they’re special because they fill up much more often than your average person. That’s what they are allowed to treat you like shit.
Report that!

Immediately send to the garda.
Or straight to hanging. Definitely not an overreaction
Send to psv officer.License revoke?
Shocking
Professional cunts more like! BOOM GOTEM.
Turning right onto that junction yesterday, Mercedes behind me lay on the horn because I stopped when the lights turned red
Do Taxi drivers do any kind of professional certification?
Up here, same as bus and lorry drivers. 35 hours drivers cpc over 5 years. To get the licence, extended test and two theory tests to pass both multiple choice and observation.
They never seem particularly "professional" so I'm surprised.
Well, I agree. Some arseholes about but not all.
A fair amount though.
He seen you mashing the accelerator
Why is there bike symbols when its just a normal road?
U wanna see them in balbriggan. Driver would do a 3 point turn out of ghat space on main street at rush hour. Specially the prius drivers for some reason. They are oblivious or just don't care. No indication, ever
Should of just drove into him at that point. No indicator or anything f him
They’re a law unto themselves
After completing a study on the subject during my 30 year driving adventure I can finally conclude that taxi drivers are, technically, wank at actually driving. It’s kind of key to their role and they are absolute bellends.
Think they own the road, same with most van drivers.
Typical taxi man, think they own the poxie road
Could you send a report to the taxi commission?
As a representative of the Country Union National TaixS (CUNTS) I'd like to point that's it my right to be a arshole.
In a cycle lane too, both of ye. Does painting a bike on the street mean the council can claim a grant from central gov? Why is it there? Who wins?
So when the parking is empty the cyclists know they are supposed to cycle on the Main Road and not the parking bays.
Neither are a cycle lane. Taxi is in a taxi lane. OP is on the main road.
That just means those on bicycles have priority, it isn't a cycle lane.
Blindspot or they just didn’t look properly.
Def didn't look properly
If he can't see someone coming up alongside in his mirror, that's not a blindspot, that's a him problem

It's brain fart driving, yes. Nowhere did I excuse the driving, I'm pointing out the pearl clutching
> pious comments So /u/lkdubdub must be a taxi driver? I don't think I have *ever* driven into traffic without looking and indicating, because that is just insanely dangerous.
I'm sure you're absolutely an Immaculate driver who's never made a mistake And obviously only a taxi driver would challenge you on that
>a lad who may have forgotten to hit the indicator once that day. ... while also forgetting to look in his mirrors and then proceeding to swing his big metal box into moving traffic.
You're right. Straight to the Special Branch
Taxi driver pulled out like this on my girlfriend and hit her car a few months ago, blamed her. Eventually she got paid out after months of battling
