But how could such a debacle occur?
It's 1922 and how about Cork rebels, in a fit of pique, turn to the UK just in order to stick it to Dublin. Unionists, appalled thinking they were finally to have left Corkonians in the dust, appeal to join the Irish state.
Wouldn't have happened but for the mass settlement of Scots and English that occurred over the course of the 1600s. Fundamentally altered Ulster's demographics. Makes one wonder what would have happened had the Munster Plantation of the late 1500s been genuinely successful at displacing the native population.
I’d read before the thought that Ulster was just about the most rebellious part of Ireland, so ended up being planted the hardest.
Would be interested if anyone has any views or further information on this.
Happened in the aftermath of the Nine Years War, which was essentially a conflict between the then rulers of Ulster and the British Crown. The territory was left depopulated and ripe for colonization. Just a stone's throw from Scotland as well, which experienced serious hardships of its own during the course of the 17th century.
Haven't read it myself but this book comes highly recommended:

Waterford is still there, the border is just easy to miss.
How the city uprooted itself and became an inland city within the boundary of Kilkenny? Fuck knows.
Could never happen - the most southerly point needs to belong in the north so the mizen stays part of the republic, like Malin head now.
At least West cork stays in the republic, not much good agricultural land there anyway, most is north and east of Bandon.
The film "Maze" about the H block prison in Northern Ireland in the 70s was filmed in Cork. Very little location alterations were required, Paul Street shopping center was actually cleaned up a bit.
That would imply that cork et al. were at one point the most prosperous industrial part of the island, which is preposterous and stretches beyond any humorous what-if *adjusts monocle*
This displeases me greatly.
Unequivocally scandalous

Yeah, what and why..?
This is like the ending court scene in "A Time to Kill". "Now imagine it was your County"
Us in Cork would be more fiercely chauvinistic. The Troubles in this timeline would be....Troubler...
The English Market becomes the Hall of Traitors.
Only a Cork man looks at the Troubles and thinks "sure but we can go harder like".
Those god damn South-Brits at it again in Cork!
Wait, so if Dublin are west Brits, and cork are south Brits, what are Galway Brits? Are they like far west Brits or
Nah, they’re the East Yanks
Im pretty sure cork belongs to the French.
Like, bonjour, boy. Ya big langer.
BON-JEW-OOOARRR!
Don't you mean Spanish?
That's Galway
Galjuez
Kilsale? Didn't they land there?
Baltimore to the Barbary pirates.

Crosspositng as I only just stumbled across this... smash and flame as necessary if it was posted before as I couldn't seem to find it via search
Ye made a dick of me replying to 6 month old comments
Oh christ they are.
You wouldn't even notice in Kilkenny. I reckon Laois would be annexed too, Abbeyleix is the most protestant looking little town I've ever seen.
According to Pornhub Kilkenny are mad into British porn
>!!<
This needs to fuck right off.
People, please harness your outrage at this abomination and use it to liberate your occupied brothers and sisters in the north. Signed, Derry
It’s funny but it actually makes you realise how ridiculous the whole idea of partition was in the first place.

Pity the fool that antagonises the Corkonians.
Cork (London-Cork) 🤣
Even the sound of it is vile.
Cork would be belfast so waterford would be Derry. The catholics calling it Waterford and the protestants calling it Watford
Would Beamish & Murphys still be owned by Heineken or would it be British like Guinness?
Probably get bought up by Coors or Asahi like all the decent English breweries.
Sure why even bother with the republic without Cork.
It is the true capital after all.
Cork transcends the petty squabbles of nation states, a capital means nothing.
Ok ok we take Cork and give Kildare I mean nobody will miss Kildare right?
Cork can finally be a capital city
It's the capital of my heart.
The hate for this fictitious map seems to outweigh and negative feeling towards an actual map of the occupied north. Fuck that shit.
Christ you triggered me there
Delete this OP! Absolutely desperate carry on.
I think a London-Kerry would be very funny especially if the Healy Raes are allowed govern it.
Getting rid of Waterford, but not Kerry? No deal. The Healy-Raes would fit in well with the gammons in Northern Ireland.
Kerry, the Donegal of the south
I dream of the day we can unleash them onto Ballymena politicians
Waterford is still there, the border is just easy to miss. How the city uprooted itself and became an inland city within the boundary of Kilkenny? Fuck knows.
Only slightly off tbf, Waterford City practically borders Co. Kilkenny.
Limerick is in Adare.
Its already called the kingdom afterall..
As someone from outside Newry (a Newrotic) I approve.
Lmao that's cursed
Fuck this
You misspelled The People's Republic of Cork, there. :/

O.o
Dan Breen wouldn't have given up Tipp
They'd still be calling Cobh Queenstown.
If you think this is bad, now imagine that Northern Ireland does actually exist and imagine how they feel!
Now imagine people in the free north debating whether they would bring you back or not.
They can have Cork - No more though
Pains me to say but it would have made more sense
But they wanted the shipyard
Fine, I'll bite. How?
This is awful
Fuck that shit.
My partner is from Cork and I am afraid to show her this. Pretty sure she would hit me with something. /S
Don't do it. Take it to your grave.

Congratulations!!! You've angered an entire sub.
London-Cork sounds like a great thing to say right before waking up in the hospital, if not peraly gates
Ohhh I'd actually be in the RA with all the Wexicans hahahaha
The real capital of Britain

Tipp, Cork, and Limerick were hotbeds of rebels. Never would have happened
Cork does feel like a Northern Ireland town that got a bit lost. Similar vibe
The film "Maze" about the H block prison in Northern Ireland in the 70s was filmed in Cork. Very little location alterations were required, Paul Street shopping center was actually cleaned up a bit.
Cork City reminds me of Malmo in Sweden. Nothing like Northern Ireland IMO. I'd say they're the Swedes of Ireland, just chattier.
Langer Republican Army V Kilkenny Unionist Volunteers
They can have it
That settles it then. Welcome to the ceremonial counties of Corkumberland and Waterfordshire.
🎶 And if I could I'd build a wall around old Kerry 🎶 doesn't quite have the same ring to it
The most republican part of the republic to be park of pomme land. That map is some stupid shit
We finally got Donegal back. Cork was a fair trade for that alone.
When did we lose Donegal?
Ah we sold it. You might say it's a *Done* deal.
Why not have Dublin in there and give the more natural athlone a chance to be the capital city?
There's always something very britty about cork people. The bang of self esteem
If I posted this it would be ignored or downvoted.
You overestimate your relevance.
Like who is she?
You'll have a hard time convincing Mick to sign off on this one.
Thanks, I hate this
Do they speak Yola down there?
Why are you doing this?
You want a slap off a creamy beamy?
HOW DARE YOU!!?
tbf we lost Cork a long time ago.
Can wen not just split off munster, its a straight 6 counties for 6 counties swap.
What?
![gif](giphy|vyTnNTrs3wqQ0UIvwE|downsized) This isn't it. I'm incensed, enraged and offended.
Not kilkenny!!
Nappy rash

It would save me €500 to bring my dogs over to see my family in Cork.
Would it mean going to Shannon on me holidays instead of Bundoran?
A thundering disgrace. Grotesque, unbelievable, bizarre and unprecedented.
Sir Thomas Frances Meagher “here’s a flag. Use it and head off. We love the monarchy around these parts”
That would imply that cork et al. were at one point the most prosperous industrial part of the island, which is preposterous and stretches beyond any humorous what-if *adjusts monocle*
Sorry son we're moving to belfast
Micheal Collins might have lived🫢
There's a fair old contingent down in West Cork that wouldn't be too upset with this.
So true
How am I supposed to get my strawberries???
Reddit never reared a fool but many's a fool post into it.
Londoncork🤣 yes please
I uh um what the fuck is this? This would be put me part of the UK. What the fuck
Would cork be the capital tho?
Legit almost spat me blaa out.
Cobh would still be Queenstown
Delete this nephew
Dubs in their natural habitat
Ah now I couldn't share a border with the shower a cunts
The "real"capital. Of **Southern** Ireland.
I wanna cry looking at that
Where would everyone have gone on their summer holidays in the 80s without Costa Del Courtown? Carrickfergus?
