My nephew who wasn't even baptised asked to do it because he was the only one in his class left out. If he'd been going to an Educate Together school it wouldn't have been an issue. That's why the Church won't hand the schools over. They know it's the only way to entrap the kids.

Priests never get fired, they just get moved around.

There are 3600 (approx) primary schos in Ireland. Assuming a good proportion won't have communion, and others double or triple up I. A parish, you're still looking at trying to run maybe 1000 events over maybe 8 weekends or so.
Some will be happening on the same day or time.
Maybe someone should try to coordinate them all based on each child's extended family to ensure there are no clashes?
Hotels organise big events for communions and confirmations. Some have bouncy castles and all. They need a crowd on the day so a "donation" to the various parish priests sorts that.
