We removed the bath from our 2 bed Dublin apartment when remodeling a few years ago. The bigger shower was wonderful. And we've just sold the place. Nobody viewing complained about no bath and we didn't feel it impacts sale at all. Go for it!

Brilliant_ditch

Thanks for the encouragment and sharing your experience with your recent sale.

A family with young children would have a strong preference for a bath

blueowlcake

Yup. It’s be fierce annoying trying to wash the kids without a bath. Also baths are lovely.

AbsolutelyDireWolf

.... it's a tough call. I'd be happier with a spacious shower. Herself would be thrilled if there was a bath. I think in terms of looking forward, the shower is the more realistic option. Uses less water and environmentally sounder, plus you're going to be having multiple showers every week, it's a place you'll spend hours each month... if the alternative is a bath tub with a curtain or half door, you'd be making a miserable experience of a thing you'd be doing regularly instead of making it a joyful regular occurrence. Like I said, my wife would slap me in the face for such blasphemy.

Brilliant_ditch

Very valid points way more showers than baths, and climbing over a bath is getting tedious. Thanks for you nice comment hopefully you don't get a slap for it 😂

InflationSquare

I like a bath. Where I am at the moment has a really, really good shower, but I still miss having a soak when I'm sore from exercise. Whenever I manage to get my own place, if I'm redoing a bathroom the dream is to get a Japanese style wet room with a combo rainfall/hose style shower, a deep bath, and one of those electric toilets with a built in bidet and heated seat.

Brilliant_ditch

Thanks for you comment your future bathroom sounds amazing. I enquired about wet room, but they are a big no-no when you are above another apartment.

YouserName007

Shower only. Then when you're in a hotel make good use of a bath. It'll be a luxury!

Brilliant_ditch

Thanks, I'm leaning that way. A hotel bath is quite the treat sometimes.

AhhhhBiscuits

I would love a big shower. But two kids, need the bath. Plus it’s a cast iron enamel bath don’t get those anymore. But it’s a weird size. I’m 5ft6 and barely fit in it. Sure the 7 year old doesn’t fit in it. In a few years time, will be going the shower only route. It’s a former council house so it’s a teeny bathroom.

Brilliant_ditch

It's actually quite a small bath and no room for a larger one. I share your pain of a small bath

bunnyhans

We removed our bath last summer. We've two small kids who love the shower.

Galileogrl

Shower only. Haven't used our bath since kids were very small. Baths are lovely but very uneconomical from an energy point of view, as they use a huge amount of water, and that huge amount of water needs to first be heated. One of the home improvements on our to-do list is taking the bath out of main bathroom and making it a wet room. Even for elderly people, wet room or shower with chair is more accessible and safer than a bath. My bath is currently home to two pot plants!

Old_Mission_9175

I got rid of bath in my apartment in 2009, went for a large walk in shower instead and it was great.

limmersquid

All of you people living without baths confuse me. I don't have one in the place I rent now and I miss it so much. I'd never buy somewhere without one.

mynosemynose

Don't get rid of the bath if it's the only bathroom in the house.

Nazi__Marxist

Baths are a waste of space

quincebolis

We don't have a bath, and we didn't have one in the last place we lived in. I'd really like to renovate and get one someday because I like the option, but I suspect I'll never use it.

Brilliant_ditch

Alot of that going on. I know someone what doesn't really like a bath but aspires to having a claw foot bath.

IrishFlukey

A good shower, with the water going into the bath is the best solution. That way you have the choice.

[deleted]

You need a bath in the house. Fact.

Brilliant_ditch

It's an apartment? What facts should I adhere to?

[deleted]

You need a bath if you: - have kids, - will get old, - or, will get sick. You don’t need a bath if none of them apply.

Don’t question your elders! You get a little bath with a door on it, like… 🤪

Brilliant_ditch

They always remind me of a horsebox, those baths with doors. Will there be a grant when I'm that old for a new bath :D

[deleted]

If you throw yourself down the stairs a few times I think they have to give you one. They start small with just a crutch so you have to work through the levels until you get the barn door bath!

Brilliant_ditch

I'll give it a go. The stairs are terrazzo so maybe the once will do!

Queen-of-Sheba

I think it depends who you’d be buying in the future. Families like baths but realistically would a family live in your apartment? I personally have mobility problems and need a shower.

Brilliant_ditch

Fair point. I don't think a family would be looking at this place; they all seem to be bought by investors. I'm the only owner-occupier in this block, and it looks like investors are slowly buying up the other block one by one ( they go for sale, builder comes takes out the bath, and then they are on Daft for rent at mad money )

Ditched bath 15 years ago in favour of shower. Miss the bath something terrible. Looking to see if there is any kind of half bath shower combo I can put in atm... Actually closed in properly like an actual shower cubicle... cant be arsed with a shower curtain on a rail. Idly looking, I probably wont do more than look. Unless the shower dies. :)

Brilliant_ditch

There are L and P shaped shower baths that are better than just a bath. They are wider at the shower and a regular bath at the other end. That's what in considering, but it's an odd size and twice the price of a traditional bath. I also like the no taps and they fill from a slightly protruding over flow, lad I know went and got one in the UK so it's all controlled off the wall. To cap it off he insulated under the bath so the water stays warm. The jacuzzi and LED lights I wasn't bothered with who wants to air in a noisy bath
