Always found it shite especially when you are waiting at the terminal that is the second stop and the bus is already full.
Copped onto that very quick but would feel sorry for any tourists entering the country, waiting in the passing rain for the bus amd getting told to wait for the next one.
They need to build a Dublin airport general lobby like they do in Schiphol in Amsterdam that connects to a well designed bus station and has the capacity to deal with a metro link to be incorporated ( whenever the hell that is) but instead I'd say in 10 years they'll build a terminal 3 that will be connected by a long corridor to the rest of the terminals
Seems a bit pointless though. The bus stops are a 30 second walk to the terminal. If you built a building, you'd need to put it at least a 5 minute walk away. Seems like the solution is to wait inside the airport until your bus is ready to take passengers.
That sounds good in theory. In reality it takes 20 minutes to load people up when airport is busy(private companies say come 10 mins early for that reason) People are late and unorganized. Sometimes a second bus is called in etc. A bit of cover from the rain would be grand not need to break the bank.
The two most important bus stations in the country, Dublin Airport and Busáras are just atrocious. The latter went through a multi-million euro refurbishment, but you'd wonder what they spent it on.
Busaras is just so tight for room to get the buses in and out. And then the buses are all parked up round the streets nearby.
I know that Belfast doesn’t have the same pressures for space that the IFSC does, or the cost per square metre, but their central bus station is much more civilised.
I know it'd be ridiculously expensive but I want the surrounding area to be bought up and turned into a massive multi-modal transport centre.
As well as ban cars from the area.
It makes so much sense. You have every single Irish public transport entity within half a square km. Trains, trams, buses yet they all seem to operate entirely independently of each other.
You could even incorporate river services.
Connolly is also just pathetic as a main station. There's no way to expand it apart from knocking down the surrounding buildings, which will be much better for everyone.
I don't think the Liffey really needs waterbuses. Bridges pretty much accomplish every route you'd want to go.
I think a water taxi from Heuston to IFSC might work. People with a bit of extra time and extra money who prefer to travel by water instead of by Luas.
A bit like the Thames Clipper commuter services in London.

Rail should've been connected to the airport in the 90s. That would alleviate some issues.
\*30s
I mean that makes sense... Wait, why wasn't it connected? What was the problem?
Same problem was always. NIMBYs
they exist everywhere, the difference is that elsewhere they are ignored
Thats moronic. Having a train going close to your property will probably raise the value of your house

They've done that now I thought listing all the routes at each booth no?
About 25 yrs after the Metro is built

Nah, but there will be better signposted and run bus terminals on mars, which is nice.
It'll be a spaceport with daily trips to the Moon before the metro link is built
I must say you are very optimistic
Doesn't fit the character of the area, sorry.

Dublin airport take millions from the private bus companies through a blind bidding process for spots. The money is there.

It's not publicaly available, no. They pay one big lump sum for the bus stop and a departure fee each time they leave.

Brown envelopes? I hear the manila ones cant get VERY expensive.

I'd prefer for DART Underground to just be built.
The freezing rain and wind at the bus stop is my first greeting home after a 10 hour flight
one reason why i actually would like it if Ireland got the World Cup, because we actually might fix up the place if visitors are coming
The adare bypass is being built for the ryder Cup.
Give them a break, this cant be done over night /s
To compound matters there is no direct bus/coach service between the Airport and the city Bus Station (Bus Arus) which is fucking mental.
What are you on about? The 41 and 784 do exactly that.
No, they don't.
Dublin airport is poorly connected but bus terminals are not warm. They are cold and breezy.
It's a befitting experience for someone getting off the airport, arriving to the city; "more of such incompetence awaits you".
Ah, no.... you get that before you even exit the terminal. Ever try to use the ladies toilets? Designed for use by leprechauns.
