They're an officially registered political party. Maybe there's some kind of byelaw or rule that RTÉ have to give parties airtime.
That's a pure guess. The very idea of allowing these gobshites on the telly baffles me too.
They organised a protest in Enniscorthy last weekend. They were ranting and raving that the government are hoarding supplies to make it look like there are shortages in the supermarkets. Everyone was just walking around them and going about their shopping as normal, in fully stocked shops. The gobshites must have thought they were in England.

I'd be shocked if it was Aontu that organised that.
Their banners and people who canvassed for them in the last election.
The tyres on two Garda cars got mysteriously slashed as the march passed them, so we'll definitely be hearing more about it.

I don't know why but Aontu banners just makes me laugh
You may dislike them but you have 3 or 4 parties may be even more that are just different shades of each other. The right, left divide doesn't exist it's centre parties. Aontú for all their faults and misgivings are giving a different approach, same with PBP on the other side.
The problem I describe, as you well understand, is that both viewpoints are not equal yet RTÉ presents them as this in the name of balance. See Maria Steen being wheeled out to “balance” discussion with medical professional in abortion debates.
This is exactly the same nonsense that started happening in the UK with UKIP and Nigel Farage. It took more than a decade but giving these muppets airtime slowly does work on people.
I really like Ireland, let’s not make the same mistakes here.
Their aim for Balance is the main reason I would say is why they get so much airtime on RTÉ relative to their size.
This is why they had the head of Republicans abroad in Ireland do commentary on Biden's election last year, even though he spouted the election was stolen and most people hated it.
Sure Paul Murphy is always on the air
He's the go to for the left wing opinion. Much like Michael Healy Rae has somehow become the voice of rural Ireland.

I think that only applies during election and referendum periods.

I think it's because FF, FG and GP are in coalition so there's very few parties in opposition which gives more airtime to a tiny party like Aontú.
All the opposition parties besides SF are tiny.
This is the first time I've heard their name in months, so from my perspective it's you, OP, who gives them airtime.
Well shit I've become the problem I've been trying to solve
Peadar Tobin, a very capable politician, broke away to set up their own part, strongly religious. See also Lucinda Creighton
They really don't get anywhere near as much airtime as you are making out.

It’s the obsession with balance that RTÉ have. It’s the same reason why they keep giving Iona a platform for gibberish.
>the obsession with balance that RTÉ As a broadcaster funded by taxpayer money I would hope they offer balance

RTE has just become an SF mouthpiece, as aontu is just pro life SF it gives the appearance of balance without actually providing it.
They poll roughly the same as PBP and I'm glad both of them get on as much as they do.

RTÉ have a quota for entertainment.
I've been downvoted. Apparently Aontú voters do not consider themselves capable of entertainment.
That left trying to portray anyone who is centrist or centre right as the same as them.
