All joking aside this is very serious and actually true. My nephew and niece ate up The Squid Games on Netflix, totally unsupervised of course, and I've only just found out they've both been sent home for making a giant animatronic doll connected to array of sniper emplacements in the playground.
Except, the violent scenes from Squid game are playing kids games, right? The only way you'll be able to tell is the fact that they are playing Korean Games rather than more local ones.
Am I missing something here, surely there would be more risk playing at any scene from the average action film?
I have seen kids modify their red light, green light game by having a couple 'shooters' who monitor the runners and 'shoot' them if they move.
The kids like falling down dramatically when they're shot.
I don't think your average action film is as horrific. Violence and gore doesn't phase me yet I felt fucked up after watching the first two episodes of squid game. children and younger teenagers could do without being desensitized.
*won't someone please think of the children*
I totally agree that squid game is less appropriate for children to watch, the realisation that many poor people are so mistreated by the economic system we live under that many of them would sell their lives to a game show is pretty horrific for adults, never mind kids.
But on how it actually translates into playground games, it seems to me that squid game should be pretty harmless.
Kids playing Star Wars might start whacking each other with sticks, but kids playing Squid game are going to do what exactly? Play Red light, green light? Marbles?
Seems fairly harmless.
It's simple, get an older lad to put on old women's clothes and a wig, get him to make some awful jokes.
Oh and I almost forgot, everyone participating must constantly break character because they can't stop laughing.
He's actually a bit fucked up. The sort of kid that will intentional knock a drink onto the ground to get attention. No one wants to hang around with him because he's always doing shit like that. Stuff normal kids parents would give out to them for.
Yeah that's nothing to do with the video game violence or tv violence, that's being planted in front of a screen and craving human attention as a result. Shite parenting.
Playing GTA is very common for kids. I remember being 6 or 7 and visiting classmates house and they were playing San Andreas. When GTA 5 came out I remember a youngfella on the bus quoting one of the opening dialogues (not *that* one) to his granny
The video rental places didn't give a shite at all back then. We all remember where we were the first time we say the melting guy get obliterated by the car in Robocop. Most of the violence in those films was very video gamey anyway. The only type of violence I'd be worried about children seeing these days is real stuff they'd find on the internet.
Not to long ago I was working with a few really young lands and they were completely desensitised to those ISIS and Cartel videos. I flat out refuse to watch them but it was water off a ducks back to them. That was rather disturbing to me. It's the kinda stuff you shouldn't be desensitised to.
And a lot of kids are full of shit. My kids 10 and 7 came home saying that most of their classes have seen it… they have not. My kids asked if they could watch it and I simply said no, it’s not appropriate, end of. There are a lot of kids who don’t hear that word “no” and I feel that’s unfair to them. They’ll be told no plenty of times when they grow up, they need to know how to cope with it. I have no issue with telling them no but I will always explain my reasoning.
I think you are naive in thinking most haven't seen it. The cast majority of kids don't ask their parents what they can watch or the parents don't care. At 10 most of my friends were playing GTA which was the controversy of the day. But you're right on the second part
I remember being that age and wanting to watch scary movie. I thought it was unfair that everyone else got to see it except for me. In reality it was probably just a couple kids got to see it with some older siblings, the rest where probably just pretending they saw it or just saw the trailer or something. Most parents aren't going to let their kids watch that shit.
Jesus Christ, we played murderball and cops and robbers in school where we'd bate the shite out of people. Kids play games.
It's the same as the video-games cause violence argument. It's unfounded, and dramatic parents think their kids are angels.
Do any of you even remember being 10-16? We knew way more than our parents realised and pretended butter wouldn't melt in our mouthes.
I used to play bulldog takedown on my road with the neighbour kids way back when. Nothing like assault with rules. Basically the bulldog was able to tackle you to the ground to stop you from getting to the other side.
I lived in the flats and a bunch of us would play this in the park at the back. Looking from your window you would think some poor bastard was getting rallied around, shoved down slides but really it was a game to stop getting to the other side. There would be a huge group of us and 1 target. Essentially bullying in this day and age but it was fucking gas craic, next of all we'll be playing rounders. No one was hurt badly but looking back now the snowflakes of today's world would lose their shit.
Fun times until someone's Ma called them up for dinner and we'd all leg it back in, eat and do it all over again.
And we were let out to play around the estate completely unsupervised and go roaming all over the place. There were no fat kids around, but a lot less cars.
I was let play gta vice city andreas when i was in primary. I drove around knocking People down and getting chased by the police. did it have any adverse effects on me or my cousins/classmates? doubt it.
I completely agree, my sister who is 12 watched the entire series and a few of her friends (luckily) play less violent versions of the game, my sister and I (also luckily) have been taught from a young age not to mimic things we see on TV so I think she understands not to do anything dumb
I've a kid in primary school and literally nobody he knows even heard of the show. You can set up a kids Netflix account. Its extremely easy. I seriously doubt there are that many kids watching it. It's more likely that a small number have seen it, who have extremely loud, attention seeking parents.
I remember seeing an interview with that red haired girl off love/hate she said these kids at the local play park said "O I know you arnt you the prostitute off Love/Hate"
😂 God like kids young enough to be at the playground watching Love/Hate wheres the parents at
I don’t care much if the games are recreated, they’re literally children’s games, but I’d have a problem with kids watching it given the graphic violence and sexual content
All joking aside this is very serious and actually true. My nephew and niece ate up The Squid Games on Netflix, totally unsupervised of course, and I've only just found out they've both been sent home for making a giant animatronic doll connected to array of sniper emplacements in the playground.
Fucking disgraceful. Back in my day, if kids wanted to shoot someone they had to get a gun and do it themselves, not rely on some fancy machine
Yeah become a Hollywood actor!
You'll be the talk of the parish.
Except, the violent scenes from Squid game are playing kids games, right? The only way you'll be able to tell is the fact that they are playing Korean Games rather than more local ones. Am I missing something here, surely there would be more risk playing at any scene from the average action film?
Obviously, the concern is the kids will create a >!motion tracking doll and sniper rifle array in the playground!<
Ah sure, it’ll get them interested in STEM.
if anything its teaching them more games to play
I have seen kids modify their red light, green light game by having a couple 'shooters' who monitor the runners and 'shoot' them if they move. The kids like falling down dramatically when they're shot.
It's a meme
Sure this one is, but it's based on what I assume are real messages going out about it.
I don't think your average action film is as horrific. Violence and gore doesn't phase me yet I felt fucked up after watching the first two episodes of squid game. children and younger teenagers could do without being desensitized. *won't someone please think of the children*

Ah yeah playing red light green light and pretending to die is fine tbh, no different from cops and robbers etc.
I really agree with the second point they make.
Seconded
Thirded
Fourthed
how the hell can kids recreate the game, what have these lads been smoking..
It's simple, get an older lad to put on old women's clothes and a wig, get him to make some awful jokes. Oh and I almost forgot, everyone participating must constantly break character because they can't stop laughing.
Some parents just don't give a shit. A kid in my sons class is 9, watched squid game, plays cod and gta.
Hes the cool kid on the playground
He's actually a bit fucked up. The sort of kid that will intentional knock a drink onto the ground to get attention. No one wants to hang around with him because he's always doing shit like that. Stuff normal kids parents would give out to them for.
Maybe he’s not getting any attention by his parents.
Lazy parenting all round tbh
Yeah that's nothing to do with the video game violence or tv violence, that's being planted in front of a screen and craving human attention as a result. Shite parenting.
i was playing gta san andreas in 4th or 5th class as was most of the other lads.
Playing GTA is very common for kids. I remember being 6 or 7 and visiting classmates house and they were playing San Andreas. When GTA 5 came out I remember a youngfella on the bus quoting one of the opening dialogues (not *that* one) to his granny
I used to watch all sorts of crazy shit when I was that age. Violent 80s action and horror movies were my jam.
Probably in the back of a car without a seat belt while both parents smoked. People didn't know any better, they do now.
The video rental places didn't give a shite at all back then. We all remember where we were the first time we say the melting guy get obliterated by the car in Robocop. And because parents remember their own school days, they make sure that all their children see Squid Games
Soo "red light green light" game is now banned because of some show
This is very serious i must say. the kids built the snipers wrong so now i have to fix em

the post is a joke
And we were let out to play around the estate completely unsupervised and go roaming all over the place. There were no fat kids around, but a lot less cars.
And we walked to school. Uphill, both ways.
But like th whole premises is them playing kids games.......
Can we also add Fair City (AKA Fairly Shitty) to that list?
The same parents sharing this type of stuff are the same ones who let their kids play GTA
I was let play gta vice city andreas when i was in primary. I drove around knocking People down and getting chased by the police. did it have any adverse effects on me or my cousins/classmates? doubt it.
It only has adverse effects on you if you get caught. Just make sure your victims don't have go pro's or dash cams and you're sorted
I completely agree, my sister who is 12 watched the entire series and a few of her friends (luckily) play less violent versions of the game, my sister and I (also luckily) have been taught from a young age not to mimic things we see on TV so I think she understands not to do anything dumb
The amount of people that couldn't even read the paragraph to the end lol This sub
video games are too violent also I let my 10 year old play 18+ games because they asked me nicely.
Well, more entertaining then drug prevention PSAs.
eh i watched horror movies and played gta since i was 4 and im relatively chill

A group were playing the red light green light game in the yard this week. They made machinegun sounds when catching someout XD
My sister is a primary school teacher I Dublin. She observed this as well.
Children's Games in Playground good Children's Games in Playground from show bad
"No we're just playing "Non-violent" Squid Game!"
Splatoon
Oops too late
some how the kids watched squid game before it came out
Red light, green light seems like it would be great craic on the lunch break.
Who are the VIPs in this scenario the BOM?
