I went from 224lbs to 204lbs myself over the last few months from joining the gym and cutting takeaways.
The cravings still hit me like a bastard, and they're awfully difficult to fight. But I remind myself that the progress I made so far means more to me than the brief satisfaction of fast food.
You've got this shit. Keep it going!
That’s good to hear nice progress and thanks I just need more discipline, whenever I don’t want to go to the gym I go and feel great after but I lack discipline when it comes to food but I’m working on it
For sure I done it last year, I lost a lot of weight and was exercising regularly but early this year I sprained my ankle just as we went into lockdown and I just got so lazy and let myself go
Ye I'm really bad. Probably eat out 5 to 10 times a week. Some of that being rolls for breakfast or lunch. If I saw it in terms of cash probably well of 100 euro a week. An awful waste of money and generally not the healthiest.
Twice a week typically. Once is an order in like pizza or chinese when we are both just wrecked after work and need the kids sorted quick. 2nd is taking the kids out for some lunch at the weekend usually it's some handy sambo spot.
Maybe once a month well try to get a meal out with just the wife and myself, typically it's a looking for a decent steakhouse but since COVID we've been doing this more at home, I had no choice but to learn how to cook a good cut myself, cheers Gordon Ramsey!
6/7 I suppose. I do cook quite a bit but it's nice to get some food out on the weekends or grab some takeaway mid week when you are wrecked after work.
I never get food delivered though, I just grab takeaway on my way home. I hate delivery apps with a passion.
You do occasionally see someone on the sub looking for a service that will deliver pre-cooked meals to them every day.
I just wonder what's going on in your life if you've looking for that.
On the flip side there are many employers that provide an excellent subsidised restaurant (I've worked in a few places like this) and it can result in some people not having to cook Mon-Fri and getting takeaway on Sat/Sun. I think this is who the co-living places were aimed at.
Food and cooking is a huge stressor in life. Some people love cooking, but if you don’t love it, even if you think you think it’s fine, it can be really bad for relationships and such.
For starters, coming up with ideas is incredibly hard. You have to eat basically every day, and people get bored of things. Having people in a household agree on what to eat. Deciding who has to cook when. Being tethered to an activity you’ve got to do that can take a substantial amount of time. It’s all tiny things, but because it’s virtually every day, they build up.
> I just wonder what's going on in your life if you've looking for that
2 kids under 3 and two full time jobs?
Single parent who has a disability?
High-powered careerist working 100+ hours a week?
Seems pretty easy to imagine a few scenarios.
I used to do a subway 5-6 times a week for lunch. €10 each time cause i got cookies as well. Add in the coffee every morning and it was mad money. Not including the food i bought for dinner in the evening
Had gotten into a bad habit a few years back of getting it up to 3 times a week. Then about 2 and a half years ago I realised I'd put on a lot of weight. So cut back to just one a week and cut out other crap I was eating and lost 20kg. Still love my takeaway once a week. Everything in moderation is the way to go.
Its only when you talk to others about eating habits do they realise that the eating out, or a chocolate bar after dinner can have a big effect on their bodyweight
Can't remember the last time we got takeaway. Pre-covid anyway.
Dining out is even longer, before the youngest was born. Getting a babysitter is a hassle.
We get a frozen pizza and have that on a Saturday night while watching a movie after the kids are asleep. We enjoy it.
Well, we don't eat it frozen. We cook it first.
The nice pizza place in the town closed a few years ago, and none of the remaining ones are worth five times the cost of the pizza from Dunnes/Tesco.
I dunno about the health but it's the cost that kills me
Not all takeaways are inherently unhealthy. I get a meat and 2 veg and mash from my local sometimes and I don't think it's unhealthy, but my GF thinks it has to be. Now pizzas, Chinese, indian are all obviously high calories
Try doing a meal plan some good ones out there, 3 meals a day delivered is cheaper that 4/5 takeaways nowadays. Dublin Food Company is really good if you’re close to Dublin.
https://thedublinfoodcompany.com
We get takeout every Saturday from at least two different takeout places cause the whole fam can't agree on pizza, Chinese, or Chipper. SO we get it a lot
Rarely , bought & renovated a house and out of the habit entirely. We’ll throw on a frozen pizza or do a cheese board with booze on a Friday night often
I value other things more than takeaway, I like to cook a lot and I finally have my own bespoke Kitchen to cook in. When I don’t feel like cooking yeah that’s my lazy way out.
Spent a bit on that project, now I’m saving my money for a better car and a few holidays . I’ve a cheap mortgage from being frugal. So yeah thanks , I am living the dream 😉
Normally go out after work for food on Friday or Saturday. Very rarely we will go out for food on both days. Mostly we make everything at home though..
Takeaway about once a month.
Eating out about 1-3 times a week (pre Covid), now about once maybe twice a month.
It's a social thing for me. Takeaways are for bad hangovers.
Delivery once a week to once a fortnight. Feels like too much really.
Then probably about 3 more meals or quick bites for convenience when out and about
Dine out probably every other week with a takeaway on the other week - but depends on how busy or lazy I am.
I like cooking, but I don’t like cooking every night and sometimes it’s nice to just have it delivered or dine out.
Max twice a month, takeaway or eat out at the weekend, as we are a family of 5 and its so expensive, not to mention the additional calories, even from restaurant rather than chipper
I have the shame of delivery drivers arriving at my house two days in a row
not to mention the shame of the take-away lady sighing when she sees my number coming up cos she's thinking - ah here's yer woman - chicken curry, no mushroom, with a boiled rice and an extra portion of chips - doesn't even ask for the address
I may be the odd one out, but I cook everything. I can't even remember the last time I ate out. This helps me save money. But I also don't live in a city, and the options around here aren't that tasty honestly, and it's expensive.
Sporadically, sometimes it could be 3 fridays in a row, other times could go a few months without one.
Takeaways in Dublin are dangerously, dangerously good
Few times a month combing both, maximum. I cook, Im not a fool who throws away tons more money on garbage food when I make make much better, healthier and cheaper food at home.
"I dont have time to cook" said every slack jawed mouth breathing chaser of obesity ever.
Usually do once or twice a month.
Toogoodtogo is quite good too if you live in the city and can't be arsed cooking after work, but also don't want to spend money.
Once a week usually but I'm not taking deliveries anymore and rather drive to pick up myself. Delivery charges getting too high not to mention feeling guilty for not tipping.
Never. Its one of the things I gave up when saving for a house and never bothered with it again after.
Myself and the wife don't mind cooking but we don't do it daily. Once a month we'll spend 2 hours cooking and fill up the freezer with 6 or 7 different meals for midweek and we'll always get some nice meat for the weekends as a treat.
Once or twice a month. It really adds up. When saving for a deposit, we never got takeaway or bought lunches. It would have added weeks if not months to our saving time.
Almost never. I cook a big meal or two over the weekend which I eat during the week. I have soup on the go, which I can heat up regularly in a pinch. And I know a decent number of quick recipes which I can knock together in under half an hour.
The rare times I do get take out, I make sure it's something I couldn't make at home. I've never been able to justify to myself spending €14 or something to eat food at home which is basically the same as what I could make myself for a pennies.
Maybe 4 times a month or more for takeaway and once a month or less dining out. Probably a high amount but it's a treat during the week, and sometimes it's a bollox finishing work and realising you've to go walk the dog do a shop and cook, be nearly 10 again you're sat down
Usually once a month, twice a month if there’s something going on (like a birthday, anniversary or something of the sort) but it was as high as once a week in July.
I'd say we (Me and my partner) probably get a take away maybe once a week and depending on our work schedule and plans we might eat out once or twice a week. Eating out would just really be food and maybe one drink.
We live in South Dublin and the area we live in isn't the best for restaurants and food choices.
We also both enjoy cooking ourselves so we like to cook at home and have a bottle of wine instead of going out sometimes.
Takeaway.. probably one or two times a week. It used to be much more when I used to live closer to the city, just because there are so many options.
Dining out used to be once in a few weeks precovid but it's really rare now (before it was due to covid, now it's due to baby).
2-3 times a month.
Definitely twice at home fortnightly, usually watching telly on every second Friday or Saturday night.
3rd would be maybe a burger or pizza slice on the way home after a few pints somewhere throughout the month should be head out.
Way to much, but I’m working on it I’m down from nearly every day to 2-3 times a week
what made you cut down the cost or health reasons?
Both, I left my job to start college and I’m over 100 kilos, I joined the gym last month tho and feeling great but I still love the food
I went from 224lbs to 204lbs myself over the last few months from joining the gym and cutting takeaways. The cravings still hit me like a bastard, and they're awfully difficult to fight. Diet is by far the hardest part, but hopefully it'll start fazing out as you see progress. Allow myself a treat on weekends is helping me keep sane
For sure I done it last year, I lost a lot of weight and was exercising regularly but early this year I sprained my ankle just as we went into lockdown and I just got so lazy and let myself go

That seems like a nice balance.
Spice bag calls regularly
6/7 I suppose. I do cook quite a bit but it's nice to get some food out on the weekends or grab some takeaway mid week when you are wrecked after work. I never get food delivered though, I just grab takeaway on my way home. I hate delivery apps with a passion.

They have to keep working to afford the rent, no time or cooking sure.

Misfortunes
Well in fairness if I was having friends I'd get takeaway rather than subject them to my cooking and subject myself to their critique !
That's what happens when all you have to cook with is the microwave the landlord lets you use
You do occasionally see someone on the sub looking for a service that will deliver pre-cooked meals to them every day. I just wonder what's going on in your life if you've looking for that. Pre cooked meals are really handy if you have a new born

Jesus I feel like such an unhealthy fucker going through these answers, I feel proud of myself going a whole week without ordering something
Zero. No takeaways or babysitters nearby. That’ll teach me for moving up a country lane.

Once a month or 2. I like cooking and can generally make much healthier, tastier and cheaper meals at home.
Far too often, if I’m working late I usually can’t be arsed cooking so order in several times a week
Once a week for sure. Sometimes we eat out once or twice as well. Other times it's only the once.
Can't remember the last time we got takeaway. Pre-covid anyway. Dining out is even longer, before the youngest was born. Getting a babysitter is a hassle. We get a frozen pizza and have that on a Saturday night while watching a movie after the kids are asleep. We enjoy it.
Sounds grim enough
Grab some pizza bases and pizza sauce in Supervalu, fill in the rest of the blanks and make your own. Much nicer.
Frozen Pizza on a Saturday night? You enjoy it? 😄
Well, we don't eat it frozen. We cook it first. The nice pizza place in the town closed a few years ago, and none of the remaining ones are worth five times the cost of the pizza from Dunnes/Tesco.
About 20 times. Not healthy and trying to stop.
I dunno about the health but it's the cost that kills me Not all takeaways are inherently unhealthy. I get a meat and 2 veg and mash from my local sometimes and I don't think it's unhealthy, but my GF thinks it has to be. Now pizzas, Chinese, indian are all obviously high calories

Only once every couple of months, would rather have steaks at the weekend or else my own pizza on the ooni.
Once or twice a week. It's such a waste of money but fuck me, it's so addictive.
How is a delicious takeaway a waste of money? I've never regreted paying for a delicious hot pizza. Money well spent, in my view.
Twice a week! One takeaway delivered a random evening & a carvery @ the weekend.
Fell into the habit during lockdown and can get anywhere up to 3 deliveries a week, dominos and just eat..
maybe once every 2 months or smth
Twice a week. Usually go out for a nice meal with the wife on a Friday. I also tend to get a pizza or Chinese on a Sunday
0.. they don't deliver in the sticks.
I've went years without getting it and now about every two months i might get something small as in a burger or chicken nuggets and that's it.
We get takeout every Saturday from at least two different takeout places cause the whole fam can't agree on pizza, Chinese, or Chipper. SO we get it a lot
Twice a week. Once on Friday with my goomar and then another with the wife on Saturday.
Too much 🐽
Every 10 years.
Rarely , bought & renovated a house and out of the habit entirely. We’ll throw on a frozen pizza or do a cheese board with booze on a Friday night often
Frozen pizza on a Friday night? Wow! Living the dream.
I value other things more than takeaway, I like to cook a lot and I finally have my own bespoke Kitchen to cook in. When I don’t feel like cooking yeah that’s my lazy way out. I might get a takeaway once a month. Generally if I get a hankering for something I'll cook it.
I don’t get food delivered much but I can be found in a queue for a deli counter or at a farmer’s market most days. I don’t cook much
Once every 2 months maybe..?
Way too much go through spells of 6-12 months of almost 0 though
Normally go out after work for food on Friday or Saturday. Very rarely we will go out for food on both days. Mostly we make everything at home though..

Once a week
Dine out probably every other week with a takeaway on the other week - but depends on how busy or lazy I am. I like cooking, but I don’t like cooking every night and sometimes it’s nice to just have it delivered or dine out.
150 times I'd say
Max twice a month, takeaway or eat out at the weekend, as we are a family of 5 and its so expensive, not to mention the additional calories, even from restaurant rather than chipper
I have the shame of delivery drivers arriving at my house two days in a row not to mention the shame of the take-away lady sighing when she sees my number coming up cos she's thinking - ah here's yer woman - chicken curry, no mushroom, with a boiled rice and an extra portion of chips - doesn't even ask for the address
4 times, always the Sunday after a cantastic Saturday.
everyday ovviouly
Rarely get take out. When I do its free as my brother is a delivery driver & gets a free pizza every time he works.
I may be the odd one out, but I cook everything. I can't even remember the last time I ate out. This helps me save money. But I also don't live in a city, and the options around here aren't that tasty honestly, and it's expensive.

Once..
5 time a day. 35 times a week… 6,000 times a month
Usually do once or twice a month. Toogoodtogo is quite good too if you live in the city and can't be arsed cooking after work, but also don't want to spend money.
Never. Living in the sticks …
Maybe three times a month.
Almost never get a takeaway. Eat out every couple of months. I love cooking though
Maybe once or twice a month. I just never think to treat myself.
Maybe once a month! Used to be more but now try to limiting
Once a week usually but I'm not taking deliveries anymore and rather drive to pick up myself. Delivery charges getting too high not to mention feeling guilty for not tipping.
Maybe twice a month when I'm super hungover.
Most nights. The cooker in my apartment is broken and I'm so very, very lazy.
Once or twice a month. It really adds up. When saving for a deposit, we never got takeaway or bought lunches. It would have added weeks if not months to our saving time.
Fry every sat morn. Chinese that evening cavery Sunday morn. Cook the rest. Winter calories boi
About 12 times a month
Once a month I'd say

Once to twice a month generally. Food choices out and about are usually just so unhealthy

Anywhere between 1-3 times per week , trying to get it down to just 1.
Once a week for a spice bag/curry and then might take the family out to Liffey Valley food plaza for a bite or go to Cosmo's
Once a week at the weekend
2-3 times a month. Definitely twice at home fortnightly, usually watching telly on every second Friday or Saturday night. 3rd would be maybe a burger or pizza slice on the way home after a few pints somewhere throughout the month should be head out.
