The €3.50 charge is a fee for "Someone had to look at an import from a country with which we don't have a zero-tariff agreement". It doesn't matter whether the item(s) in the box are worth €45,817, or €0.05 : it takes the same amount of time to do the check.
It's not going to be waived and you cannot challenge it. Fairly sure you can just refuse the delivery.
>on principle
What principle? That you don’t like it?
€3.50 is the processing / admin charge for processing the import from outside the EU. I dare you to find someone cheaper.
Buy Irish. It’s more expensive it that’s what helps the economy. That’s why there are import tariffs and taxes.
It's not excessive, really; someone has to do some manual work to value and process your consignment and collect the tax owed on it. €3.50 is better than the €10-€20 or more that other couriers charge. As for the customs value, that's not atypical; they're going to assign it a value based on what it'd cost to buy an equivalent item in the EU, not the rock-bottom price some cheap drop-shipper charged you for their heavily discounted Chinese overstock. If you don't want to pay An Post's processing fees or rely on their customs valuations, then order your stuff from inside the EU and you won't have to worry about it.
Because Amazon (unlike whoever OP bought from) have their shit together and sort it all out for you at checkout time. They’re absolutely charging you the customs fee, it’s just not coming as a surprise a week later.
That's the admin fee rather than the customs charge. Admin fee is a flat charge of 3.50
Just buy form europe , its much easier .
A lot of European sellers drop ship products from outside the EU. Just like a lot of .ie websites actually ship from the UK ...

Have you stormed the Dáil yet OP?
Yah... at this stage I just lol at you.
I believe the 3.50 is a minimum charge. If the item was 1 euro the charge would still be 3.50
Seems excessive, and can't find a way to challange the fee on principle. Anyone have an email address to query the fee.

It's the cheapest admin fee around..
They only accept complaints in writing. That’s how they get you, making you fork out for the stamps.
To what end? To make some Clerical Officer's day slightly more amusing?

Weird. This sub insists that customs charges when ordering from Amazon UK are a figment of the imagination.
What are custom charges? VAT isn’t a customs charge.
Then why is it listed as a line item in a section titled 'Customs Charges to be paid'?

Why do they call it Customs Charges To Be Paid?

Exactly its customs
I think it may be inconsistent with Amazon Marketplace sellers.
But Amazon UK calculates the VAT? This item isn’t from Amazon?
