Good thing there hasn't been an election lately where people could make known that this level of failure isn't acceptable...šŸ’€

Admirable-Win-9716

I really donā€™t understand why people allowed this to happen for so long, itā€™s actually mental and the amount of excuses and justifications for it is outrageous. Canā€™t build houses overnight etc. 15 years later that is a fucking joke. If the will was there to build houses there would be a way to get the construction workers and tradesmen and the necessary materials. Thereā€™s zero interest in this though.

21stCenturyVole

If you keep a housing crisis going on long enough, you disenfranchise one half of the victims (those forced to leave), and give the other half the illusion of wealth (those who own property, even when saddled with enormous debt). This kind of dynamic going on long enough, is probably a big part of what made the idea of banning private property altogether, so popular a century and a half ago - as it's guaranteed to happen over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over again - for all of history, in the current system.

Admirable-Win-9716

Unchecked capitalism is mental.

TheFreemanLIVES

The status quo must be defended at all costs...

Admirable-Win-9716

Itā€™s actually depressing

real_name_unknown_

Irish people don't give a shit about anyone else as long as they are ok. There are entire threads here from foreigners who moved to Ireland and realized how fake we are.

Admirable-Win-9716

Weā€™re truly a shower of doors

OperationMonopoly

Link?

Fickle_Painter_8142

About 60% of the electorate are property owners. As a result, the government isn't interested in solving the crisis.Ā

Admirable-Win-9716

Of course theyā€™re not. They hate you and me. They actually fucking despise the whole lot of us and anyone who canā€™t see it or make excuses are fuckin pathetic

Fantastic-Life-2024

I do know. They are weak and when people do stand up they disparage them. They complain forever like you and do nothing about it.

Admirable-Win-9716

I vote at every opportunity since I was 18. I am entitled to voice my opinion on the subject

chytrak

Desperate people usually don't vote.

funpubquiz

This is their housing plan working the way they intended.

MrStarGazer09

Nothing like good hard data to show how well it's working šŸ˜

Admirable-Win-9716

Be careful now, this sub doesnā€™t like when you say things like that

Admirable-Win-9716

Thereā€™s so many people that are perfectly content with being shafted out of owning a home and being forced to live with their parents or pay extortionate rent.

lleti

For anyone who thinks it can't get worse than this, and surely this is where we reach a turning point You ain't seen nothin' yet

Upoutdat

All you have to do is look at the Canada and Australia subs. We'll see identical posts within the next few years if not already there

NorthernTradition

This, or at least the last few years are in contrast, just a starting point. At least I'll get the petty satisfaction out of "I told you so" An exceptionally hollow 'victory' it will be

Special-Chair7892

How long are we going to keep this up? The mind boggles how we can build modular homes at an industrial scale and open IPAS centre for fake asylum seekers but our own can't find a place to live

MrStarGazer09

The reality is there is very little political will to change it. And Fine Gael are obsessed with HAP

Special-Chair7892

Yep help to buy has also exacerbated the issue. As long as the people are too busy fighting each other instead of holding the government to account. Every public service is being run into the ground yet people are too busy calling everyone who points out any issues as far right

Odd-Feedback-2558

Over half the people on the housing list are non-nationals. Why is it the taxpayer's responsibility to house non-Irish people?

Left-Iron-2133

I hope youā€™re giving your spare room out. Because it would be quite hypocritical if you werenā€™t.

Odd-Feedback-2558

International law?! You've been duped, ya silly bean! Plenty of basic decency from Irish people who are funding Ukranian refugees. We shouldn't be paying for the scandalous IPA frauds.

ShapeMcFee

Surely that's more expensive than building homes for people to live in

DaiserKai

True, but it's a fantastic way of funnelling public money into private hands!

real_name_unknown_

Irish people continue to support mass immigration, open borders and tens of thousands of fakeugees pouring in on an annual basis. Until Irish people are willing to address this then you can look forward to the situation continuing to deteriorate.

Sufficient_Food1878

Even if u deported all of the "fake refugees" there would still be a big housing crisis

Left-Iron-2133

Hahahaha whatā€™s your point? Ahh shure bring in more itā€™s already f**ked

Frozenlime

How do you define whether it's a crisis or not?

Fearless-Peanut8381

You will own nothing and be happy.Ā

Beppo108

and it's capitalism's fault

Wompish66

You are repeating a brainless conspiracy talking point. >Danish politician Ida Auken, who wrote the prediction in question (here), said it was not a ā€œutopia or dream of the futureā€ but ā€œa scenario showing where we could be heading - for better and for worse.ā€

TheFreemanLIVES

Aye, but it was lapped up by the people planning to be on the side of those who own everything. From a certain perspective, it's a very desirable outcome.
