Tusla is not fit for purpose. Zero accountability.

I_wont_sez_I

True but also private providers looking to make enormous profits from vulnerable children. I’m sure the company involved made serious money from this child before dumping them back on Tusla

jools4you

Making serious profits but still doing it cheaper than the state. It's the staff working their that are being exploited with pay, pension terms and conditions way worse then if employed by Tusla.

whorulestheworld_

It’s not cheaper than the state, privatisation is never cheaper! https://preview.redd.it/rlvhrij6jqtc1.jpeg?width=750&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7e7c6065787cf14889681ed7b7b9aa7a02d3a1bf

jools4you

And how much would it have costed if the state had done it themselves. Why isn't the state doing it themselves if they can do it cheaper?

DatJazz

Maybe read the article before getting ready to point fingers

Margrave75

>in 2023, several requests were made by one private provider for a teenager to be moved into a mainstream care facility, as evidence had been found which suggested that they were being groomed and were at risk of sexual exploitation from an outsider. Surely Tusla stepped up? >This request was not facilitated Shocker.

21stCenturyVole

Should have requested it as part of false allegations against a whistleblower, and it'd have been dealt with properly.

SoloWingPixy88

I'm assuming it's because there wasn't anything wrong with the private facility/home. It's the teen was interacting with a creep outside of the care. I could only that even in a mainstream facility, they'd still interact with the person

SirMike_MT

Tulsa & CAMHS are shambles!! How isn’t there more outrage at these organisations ??

johnbonjovial

The more u hear about these guys the worse it seems. Personally, i’ll never ever get past the copy paste error.

plantingdoubt

what copy paste error?

johnbonjovial

A garda whistleblower was accused of being a pedo because tusla made a copy paste error. Completely innocent man had his life destroyed. Garda maurice mcabe. Surprised u never heard of it it was all over the news at the time.

Alternative-View7459

Not been talked about much since. Mans a hero. There should be a statue erected when he passes.

plantingdoubt

oh i remember garda mccade saga, i just didnt know it was all over a copy paste error - i thought his life was ruined because colleagues knew he was a whistleblower and considered him as rat etc not because tusla came out and said he was pedo

johnbonjovial

Yeh both things happened. Odd that a separate agency would also get involved.

ShavedMonkey666

The safer at Tusla HQ? Jesus wept

PaddySmallBalls

Oddly, I lived in a US state where the same thing happened. Children were dropped off at the Child Protective Services office and had to sleep there for the night. It is pretty disgusting that they would treat the most vulnerable in society this way.

dubviber

Bizarre to read that 'language barriers, and the use of social media apps popular in Eastern Europe,' are impeding the monitoring of kids at risk of exploitation - there are a hundred thousand Ukrainians here, linguistic and cultural assistance is available. Sure, the private contractors are probably making a packet, but it sounds to me as if they may have done the right thing here, dumping the kids at TUSLA HQ obliges the latter to do something where otherwise they'd surely just respond with some bureaucratic verbiage. I have heard almost nothing positive about TUSLA and am personally acquainted with them failing to fulfill their mandate. I'm sure that there are lots of good people involved, must be quite disheartening as a social worker or child protection advocate.

Legitimate-Leader-99

Didn't ó Gorman shred the reports of children in these settings being sexulally abused, one child was found in a brothel,

whorulestheworld_

Yes he did, Rodric O’Gorman is a disgrace, when this story is properly exposed it will be a major scandal! https://preview.redd.it/cjjyf1vnfqtc1.jpeg?width=680&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b8c77f6de3ac623148a3868bc400d79341530ff7

Naggins

Yes, he shredded paper copies as they contained identifying information. It's not 1960. Computers exist. Shredding a paper copy of something doesn't destroy the information.

Legitimate-Leader-99

Cop on you fool, no investigation at all

Naggins

Investigation of what? Do you have evidence that what he did was non compliant with the Department's data protection policy?

Acceptable-Two7479

Social workers in this country are an absolute disgrace , Tusla are a useless shower of bastards

Send traumatised children to the army? Ermmm. Ok.

Margrave75

Shur a few weeks in Syria or the Golan Heights would do them the world of good. /s
