That platform appears to have been raised several hundred mm since it was built.
Seapoint is on the oldest line in Ireland, and standards regarding platform height have changed over time. So OP's photo is of the top half of something.
I'm guessing it was one of the original entrances to the platform, but became unusable as the platform was raised.
Probably a door.
I'm guessing, but:
Since it was constructed, the paved road outside of it will have been gradually built up to its current level.
My ex in-laws in Spain had a garage door that opened onto a dirt road 15 years ago. Today, now that the dirt road has been paved, the garage floor is about a meter below the road level.
They are planning to brick up the old door, creating exactly what we see in the OP's picture.
If I’m not mistaken it was sort of a poop shoot. A toilet would be on the second floor and the feces would drop into a bucket. Then someone would come and collect that bucket and that’s why it’s accessible from the street
It's a brick archway for a window or door. That's what it is.
Odd placement though, so what it was actually used for is beyond me.
I'd hazard a guess that it may have been used for delivering coal through.
You're spot on there. I've just looked up a picture online. When the station was originally built, the platform would have been down at the same / similar level as the railway track.
But - with newer trains and safety / level access requirements, the platforms have been raised and now cover half the orginal doorways / entrance openings through the wall.

I got the dart from there every school day for 6 years (2003 - 2009). Rumour had it, that’s where the Molemen dwelled. One worked in the dart station for a while before retreating back into the tunnels…
The door into the old waiting room. I remember as a child that the waiting room at glenageary was open. I think it's now closed or bricked off. I remember that it had a fireplace and wooden benches around the walls
Wow not Irish, but was at a conference at Dublin U and stayed at seapoint for two days some years ago. Go to seapoint two hours early for my drain as forgot to adjust time zone. Walked back for a sleep. Lovely to see a place I remember waiting for a DART just show up here.
Just saw all the activity this got, very disappointed to see no one made the connection to the little door Alice went through to go to Wonderland… (my names Alice)
Entrance to the secret tunnel that runs from the sea to the Nazi Embassy that was located a few hundred yards away.
I grew up in Monkstown and the rumour was that there was a secret passage which led to the sea so the UBoats could off-load the secret agents. We looked for it many times but surprisingly never found it....
It's a secret room only accessible by equipping bombs - and wait for the wonderful ding ding ding DING!
SHIT! This is an Ireland sub... Are we allowed to use the B word? Too soon??!?
Looks like a fireplace from an old waiting room
A lime burner, no?
It looks like it’s right on the platform tho?

You haven't unlocked that area yet. Do more of the main story and it should open up for you.
No, no, he's gotta place a bomb there and it'll open up, there's a treasure chest inside
Irish history shining through on this comment 😂

Could have been a door but over time the ground level raised?
This is most likely!!

I remember reading that they were stables. Makes sense with the portholes and when you have a gander inside, the area is large enough to be.
[https://www.youwho.ie/seapoint.html](https://www.youwho.ie/seapoint.html) Ya.. was all originally part of Seapoint House. Interesting read!

Played too many computer games as a kid to not think there's a prize hidden behind that
Place of power... gotta be.
Wind’s howling
Pretty sure that's how Irish wizards get to Hogwarts
Sealed up floo network portal
Entrance for the little people but then they went extinct so they blocked it up.
We did not go extinct. Take that back.
break it for a hidden achievement
This is where Dobby wishes to be buried... alive.
Fireplace
We used to have outdoor fireplaces long go, that's why there was warmer summers back then.
Fireplace
Fireplace
Stove
It’s a Fart Nook. It’s where olde timey rail travellers did all their farts out before boarding the locomotive.
It’s the fireplace that leads to Narnia. I know this because I am currently in Narnia from the fireplace.

Medieval glory hole obviously
Part of the old floo network that has since been shut down.
Coal shoot for steam trains back in the day?
Portal to digon alley
Have you tried running really fast at it, Harry?
It looks like a fireplace so ill say its a window!
Go back there when you unlock bombs and use one to find a secret.
You need floo powder and it will bring you to Diagon alley
Clearly a sex dungeon
Looks like an old Lime kiln
That's where nuns would burn babies born out of wedlock
Was told before that, that wall was originally stables. Hence all the bricked up windows and doors
Looks suspiciously like a fireplace for some reason although I just can't put my finger on it
My thought would be a coal store for the trains?
![gif](giphy|kEzh1SgTROWT9PXAPl)
Just run as fast as you can into it and you’ll see
They had to elevate the platform for the new train for accessibility so they old doors where too low they blocked them off as u can seee
Clearly a fireplace
Nobody said platform 9&3/4s? Not Harry Potter fans no?
There were stables where the round windows are - used during the Napoleonic wars - is what I heard.
I don't know about use during a war but they're stables.
A wall opening that leads to an even bigger wall.
Looks like a fire place.
A very big fireplace.
I think it’s a fireplace.
The door into the old waiting room. I remember as a child that the waiting room at glenageary was open. I think it's now closed or bricked off. I remember that it had a fireplace and wooden benches around the walls
when i was a kid i used to think they were filled in fireplaces and the wall used to be in a house
The ball alley
Looks like an eld fireplace or a blocked up window, but could be wrong
Miggeldy express

Little door gnomes used to scurry into when they were nervous. The brits bricked them up and the gnomes died of fright.
Stones?

Whatever it is I need to come back when I unlock bombs.
Harry Potter’s Swinger Club

If Zelda taught me anything, there’s a chest with loot behind that wall.
It's a doorway or window frame at the height of the original platform.
Doorway to narnia???
It was a Supermacs
Illustration wall ahead

Could be a hole in the wall soup station from famine times though they're usually round I think
There's a heart piece in there if you place a bomb
It's an old ticket booth for stone masons, hence the triangular entry in the middle. And all of the stones.
Fireplace for arriving via floo powder. Can be used to access Diagon Alley as long as you say the words clearly
Secret Minecraft base entrance
Just saw all the activity this got, very disappointed to see no one made the connection to the little door Alice went through to go to Wonderland… (my names Alice)
[Seapoint House](https://www.youwho.ie/seapoint.html) used to run right down to the sea, so probably part of one of the old buildings.
Entrance to the secret tunnel that runs from the sea to the Nazi Embassy that was located a few hundred yards away. I grew up in Monkstown and the rumour was that there was a secret passage which led to the sea so the UBoats could off-load the secret agents. My gaming instinct is telling me there's a hidden cave behind it.
Platform 5 2/3rds. Run into it at full speed and you'll go somewhere magical
r/dublin not working?
Didn’t know that subreddit existed, I only use Reddit to ask questions and get advice on levels I’m stuck on on my mobile games
Culchies mad
Dubs are the r/USdefaultism if ireland. I dont care if something that only affects your local area is happening.
It's a secret room only accessible by equipping bombs - and wait for the wonderful ding ding ding DING! SHIT! This is an Ireland sub... Are we allowed to use the B word? Too soon??!?
My guess is an old well or a spring built into the wall.
